About this guide
Scope: Base game of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Spoilers: This guide discusses regional quests, the Ring Ruins, Lurelin Village’s restoration, the Depths, the Spirit Temple and late-game discoveries.
Overview
Necluda is the broad south-eastern region of Hyrule. It stretches from the hills and villages around Kakariko and the Dueling Peaks to Hateno Village, Lurelin Village, the Necluda Sea and the islands beyond it. Beneath the surface, the same region continues into the Necluda Depths, where the Abandoned Kakariko Mine, Abandoned Hateno Mine, Construct Factory and Spirit Temple form one of the game’s most important late-game areas.
Necluda is divided into West Necluda, East Necluda and the Necluda Sea. Fort Hateno lies near the boundary between the eastern and western portions. The region’s borders can appear inconsistent if you rely only on Skyview Tower map labels or older Breath of the Wild classifications, especially around Lurelin Village, Floria Bridge, Lakeside Stable and the southern Faron approaches. For this guide, places are grouped according to the Tears of the Kingdom regional hierarchy where possible, while neighbouring Faron and Lanayru locations are kept separate.
Necluda proper
West Necluda
West Necluda covers the Kakariko and Dueling Peaks side of the region. It includes the western approaches from Central Hyrule, the Sahasra Slope, Dueling Peaks, Kakariko Village and the roads leading south towards Faron.
East Necluda
East Necluda covers the Hateno and Lurelin side of the region. It includes Fort Hateno, Hateno Village, the Hateno highlands, the southern coast and the inland routes towards Lurelin Village.
Necluda Sea
The Necluda Sea is the coastal and offshore component. It includes the waters around Hateno and Lurelin, Eventide Island and several named capes, beaches, bays and sea caves.
Necluda Sky
The sky above Necluda includes the West Necluda, South Necluda and North Necluda sky archipelagos, as well as the Thunderhead Isles and Zonaite Forge Island. These locations are included in the broader Necluda discussion only where their relationship to the surface region is useful. Sky islands should not be confused with surface subareas.
Necluda Depths
The Depths beneath Necluda are split into East Necluda Depths and West Necluda Depths. The underground map does not reproduce every surface boundary exactly, but the surface-to-Depths relationship is useful for navigation. The location lists identify the Abandoned Kakariko Mine, Abandoned Hateno Mine, Construct Factory, the four depots and the Spirit Temple as part of the Necluda Depths grouping.
Neighbouring areas kept separate
---
Necluda combines wooded hills, farmland, steep mountain passes, open grassland, beaches and tropical-looking coastal terrain. It is one of Hyrule’s most varied regions because the player can move from the Sheikah-influenced Kakariko area to Hateno’s cultivated hills and then south into Lurelin’s seaside environment without leaving the wider region.
Neighbouring areas kept separate
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Lanayru Wetlands | north-west of Kakariko and the Sahasra Slope area. |
| Mount Lanayru | north-east of Hateno and outside Necluda proper. |
| Faron | south and south-west of parts of Necluda. Some older map classifications associate Lurelin, Lakeside Stable and Floria landmarks with the Faron Tower region, but this does not make them interchangeable with Necluda’s regional hierarchy. |
| Great Plateau | west of southern Necluda. It returns in Tears of the Kingdom but is treated as its own location. |
| Lanayru Depths and Faron Depths | neighbouring underground areas, not part of the Necluda Depths directory. |
West Necluda
West Necluda is dominated by the Dueling Peaks, Kakariko Village and the slopes around Sahasra Slope. It is generally easier to reach early than East Necluda and provides several useful routes:
Kakariko is built into a circular valley beneath the Ring Ruins. The settlement is a major source of Sheikah culture, archaeological investigation and side quests. The Ring Ruins are not simply scenery. They are tied to the regional portion of the Fifth Sage storyline and initially restrict access to certain areas.
East Necluda
East Necluda is more open around Fort Hateno and the Hateno road, then becomes more rugged and coastal as it approaches Lurelin.
Hateno Village is a long-term hub rather than a one-time stop. It contains a dye shop, a school, wells, a pasture, the ancient technology laboratory and several houses connected to Zelda’s life after the Calamity. Its quests develop after the player returns to the village and speaks to its residents.
Fort Hateno is a landmark and historical route marker. In the time of Tears of the Kingdom, it is no longer the battlefield fortress seen in the memories of Breath of the Wild, but its strategic position still makes it a useful navigation point between the eastern and western parts of Necluda.
Lurelin Village lies on the south-eastern coast. It is one of the most progression-sensitive settlements in the game. Before its attackers are removed, the village is occupied by monsters and many normal services are unavailable. Once the village is restored, it becomes a functional resort with shops, food, treasure games and repeatable activities.
Necluda Sea
The Necluda Sea includes the coastline below Hateno and Lurelin, the bays around Eventide Island and the offshore islands south-east of the mainland. This area rewards boats, Zonai aircraft, stamina upgrades and careful weather planning.
The Necluda Sea directory is substantially larger than the best-known landmarks. Named beaches, points and bays may count as map locations even when they contain no shop, quest giver or special reward. The broader location index lists these coastal names separately from East Necluda and Lurelin Village.

Best early route
The Sahasra Slope Skyview Tower is the main aerial access point for western Necluda. Its listed map position is around 1344, -1170, 0166, and it is associated with West Necluda and the surrounding regions.
Best early route: steps
- 01Leave Central Hyrule through the south-eastern road.
- 02Reach Dueling Peaks Stable.
- 03Explore the nearby caves and the Dueling Peaks foothills.
- 04Activate Sahasra Slope Skyview Tower.
- 05Visit Kakariko Village.
- 06Continue through Fort Hateno towards Hateno Village.
- 07Explore Hateno before travelling south to Lurelin.
Reaching Sahasra Slope Skyview Tower
The tower’s entrance is blocked by a practical puzzle involving the surrounding caves. If the obvious entrance does not work, investigate the cave network below the tower and use Ascend to reach the interior. This is an important early demonstration of Tears of the Kingdom’s vertical level design.
Hateno route
From Kakariko, travel east past Fort Hateno. The route is safer than the southern coastline and brings you to Hateno Village without requiring a long sea journey. Hateno is a good place to:
Lurelin route
The southern route to Lurelin passes through increasingly tropical terrain and can be approached from inland roads or the coast. On arrival, the village’s monster occupation begins the Ruffian-Infested Village storyline. The restoration sequence is one of the region’s largest activities and should be treated as a multi-stage project rather than a normal village visit.
Sea access
For Eventide Island and the offshore islands, use one of the following:
Eventide Island has a sea cave entrance near Koholit Rock, and the Marari-in Shrine is associated with the island.
---
Kakariko Village
Kakariko Village is the main Sheikah settlement in West Necluda. It is built below the Ring Ruins and remains a centre for investigation into the Zonai and the ruins’ inscriptions.
The Ring Ruins storyline is progression-sensitive. Early in the game, access to parts of the ruins is deliberately restricted. This is not a missing-key problem and should not be treated as an ordinary open cave entrance.
Named Kakariko entries
The named business entries above should not automatically be interpreted as full inventories or permanent shops. “Enchanted” and “High Spirits Produce” are associated with the village’s buildings and activities, but service availability depends on the relevant village state.
Named Kakariko entries
Hateno Village
Hateno is one of the most developed settlements in the game. Its story combines local politics, farming, education, ancient technology and Zelda’s personal history.
Main Hateno activities
The side-quest directories place Hateno among Necluda’s most active quest hubs, alongside Kakariko and Lurelin.
Main Hateno activities
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| The Mayoral Election | the central Hateno Village storyline. |
| A Letter to Koyin | a small quest associated with the lake near Hateno. |
| A New Signature Food | a cooking-related side quest. |
| Homegrown in Hateno | available after the mayoral storyline. |
| A New Champion’s Tunic | discovered through Zelda’s house and diary. |
| Hateno School | a separate settlement feature rather than merely decorative scenery. |
Named Hateno entries
Named Hateno entries: Status notes
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Kochi Dye Shop | functional service. |
| Hateno Ancient Tech Lab | functional story and equipment facility. |
| Hateno School | quest and education location. |
| Zelda’s Secret Well | exploration area and story discovery. |
| Princess Zelda’s House | explorable building with story-related material. |
| Ventest Clothing Boutique | named storefront entry; do not treat every named storefront as a separate full inventory without checking its actual function in-game. |
Lurelin Village
Lurelin is a coastal fishing village attacked by monsters before Link arrives. The village cannot be treated as fully operational until its attackers are defeated.
Lurelin restoration sequence
The village’s progression state matters. Before restoration, some buildings are damaged or inaccessible and the ordinary rhythm of village life is absent. After restoration, Lurelin becomes one of the best places in the game for coastal activities and repeatable rewards.
Named Lurelin entries
The location index identifies Lurelin Village’s store, well, village head’s house, Fishing Resort and Lucky Treasure Shop as distinct entries.
---
Lurelin restoration sequence
- 01Enter Lurelin and speak with the villagers.
- 02Defeat the monsters occupying the settlement.
- 03Search the village buildings and surrounding area for remaining enemies.
- 04Help rebuild damaged structures.
- 05Complete the associated restoration tasks.
- 06Return after the village has recovered to unlock its services and activities.
Named Lurelin entries
Dueling Peaks Stable
Dueling Peaks Stable is the main stable in West Necluda. It provides:
The stable is positioned on the main road between Central Hyrule and the Necluda settlements. It is a natural first stop for players who are travelling without a large stamina reserve.
Fort Hateno
Fort Hateno is a major historical landmark and a useful road junction. It is associated with the defence of Hateno during the Great Calamity in the preceding game’s history. In Tears of the Kingdom, the fort is less important as a military stronghold than as a regional landmark and route marker.
Security and monsters
Necluda has no formal regional police force. Security is instead represented by:
The Bring Peace quests should be separated from the Lurelin restoration storyline. They are broader monster-clearing activities and are not simply another stage of Lurelin’s village quest.
---
Necluda has a dense mixture of visible shrines, cave shrines, shrine quests and Rauru’s Blessing shrines. The exact grouping can vary between guide maps because some sources organise locations by Skyview Tower coverage rather than the game’s regional names. The Sahasra Slope map area, for example, includes parts of Lanayru Wetlands, Dueling Peaks, Kakariko and East Necluda.
Named shrines and shrine areas documented for Necluda
Some shrine lists classify particular shrines by the nearest Skyview Tower or cave rather than by the broader Necluda region. For example, Anedamimik is associated with Deepback Bay Cave, while Bamitok is found in Mount Dunsel Cave.
Named shrines and shrine areas documented for Necluda
Notable caves and underground entrances
Caves should be checked from both ends. A cave entrance can be far from the location name used by the map, and the entrance nearest a shrine is not always the entrance nearest the associated surface landmark.
---
The Depths beneath Necluda are a major part of the region’s identity. Surface geography provides useful hints: mines often sit below settlements, while springs and groves form large underground landmarks.
West Necluda Depths
The Construct Factory is one of the most important underground locations in the game. It is connected to the fifth-sage storyline and the creation of Mineru’s construct body. The four depots provide the body’s components and are mission-focused locations, not ordinary mines.
East Necluda Depths
The Spirit Temple is a late-game area tied to the Fifth Sage questline. It should be separated from ordinary Necluda exploration because its access is gated by story progression and a sequence involving the Ring Ruins, the Zonai ruins and the Construct Factory.
The location listings specifically distinguish the Spirit Temple and its entrance from other East Necluda Depths locations.
East Necluda Depths
Depths checklist
---
Secret of the Ring Ruins
This is the central Kakariko and Necluda archaeological storyline. It concerns the Ring Ruins, the Zonai, the ancient inscriptions and the search for the Fifth Sage. It should be attempted after the player has progressed sufficiently through the regional phenomena storyline.
The quest’s early restrictions are deliberate. If characters refuse to allow entry into a ruin, continue the main investigation rather than trying to bypass the area with construction or repeated dialogue.
The Mayoral Election
Hateno’s mayoral storyline is a village conflict between Reede and Cece. It involves speaking to residents, investigating the village’s political and social divisions and completing linked tasks before the election can conclude.
The rewards are not limited to a single treasure chest. The more important outcome is the change in Hateno’s services and follow-up quests.
Ruffian-Infested Village
This begins Lurelin’s recovery. It is a combat-heavy village-clearing activity with a strong environmental component. Fire, explosives and vertical attacks are useful, but avoid destroying valuable village resources unnecessarily.
Lurelin Village Restoration Project
After the monsters are removed, villagers require help rebuilding the settlement. The restoration involves gathering materials and solving practical construction problems. Once complete, several shops and recreational activities become available.
Lurelin Resort Project
This later activity develops Lurelin’s identity as a resort. It is distinct from the initial monster-clearing and rebuilding stages.
A Letter to Koyin
This is a smaller Hateno-area quest involving Koyin and the lake near the village. It is easy to overlook if you rush through Hateno’s main political storyline.
Out of the Inn
This Kakariko quest involves the village inn and should be completed while exploring the settlement, particularly if the inn’s normal operation appears disrupted.
Follow the Cuccos
A small Kakariko activity involving the village’s cuccos. It is not a major reward quest, but it contributes to the village’s ordinary life and can be missed if you only speak to the named leaders.
Bring Peace to Necluda
This is a monster-clearing activity connected to Hyrule’s organised forces. It is separate from Lurelin’s unique village attack and should be tracked independently.
---
Preparation checklist
Necluda is not consistently dangerous in one way. Its difficulty shifts from early-game climbing and combat to sea travel, storm exposure, village siege combat and late-game Depths exploration.

Sky and related locations
The regional location index separately lists West, East and South Necluda sky areas and the Necluda Depths locations. These should not be collapsed into the surface directory because sky, surface and Depths areas are different gameplay spaces.
---
Necluda is one of the clearest examples of Tears of the Kingdom building on the geography of Breath of the Wild without simply repeating its story.
For series continuity, Necluda is primarily a Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom region. Its exact geographical relationships are not fixed across every Zelda game, so real-world or older-series comparisons should not be used to override the in-game map.
---
Is Lurelin Village in Necluda or Faron?
For this guide, Lurelin Village is treated as part of East Necluda. Older Breath of the Wild map classifications and Skyview Tower regions can place nearby southern landmarks under Faron-related coverage, which explains conflicting guide labels.
Can I enter the Ring Ruins immediately?
Not fully. Some Ring Ruins access is controlled by the relevant story progression. Continue the archaeological and regional storyline rather than assuming that an inaccessible section is a missed key or bug.
Which Skyview Tower covers Necluda?
Sahasra Slope Skyview Tower is the principal tower for West Necluda and the surrounding central-south-eastern map area. Other Necluda locations may appear under neighbouring tower coverage depending on the map guide being used.
Should I clear Lurelin before visiting Hateno?
No. Both villages can be visited independently. Hateno is usually the more useful early settlement for general services, while Lurelin becomes much more valuable after its monster occupation and restoration sequence.
What is the most important Depths area in Necluda?
The Construct Factory and Spirit Temple are the most important for the main storyline. The Abandoned Kakariko Mine and Abandoned Hateno Mine are also valuable because they connect surface settlements with the underground map and provide resources.
Does Necluda have one regional boss?
No. Its major content is distributed between village storylines, shrine challenges, monster-clearing activities, the Ring Ruins, the Construct Factory and the Spirit Temple. It does not have a single surface boss equivalent to a regional phenomenon temple boss.
