Key takeaways
- Utojis Shrine is in Tobio’s Hollow Cave, not on the nearby surface island or in a separate region.
- The associated quest is Legend of the Soaring Spear.
- You need a Zonaite Spear and a wing-type Fuse material, such as a Keese Wing or Zonai Wing.
- Stand on the glowing circular platform and throw, rather than simply dropping or placing, the fused spear through the green ring.
- The shrine reward is a Large Zonai Charge and one Light of Blessing.
- The cave route includes hostile Keese and Electric Chuchu, according to walkthrough accounts. Prepare for a dark, damp approach and bring suitable weapons or materials.
About this guide
Spoiler warning: This guide covers the shrine’s hidden entrance, the associated shrine quest, its treasure and the route through Tobio’s Hollow Cave.
Overview
Utojis Shrine is a hidden Rauru’s Blessing Shrine of Light in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It is not visible in the open air. Instead, the shrine is concealed inside Tobio’s Hollow Cave, in the East Necluda area of the Surface. To reveal it, Link must solve the Legend of the Soaring Spear Shrine Quest by throwing a wing-fused Zonaite Spear through a glowing ring.
The shrine itself contains no internal puzzle beyond opening its treasure chest and claiming the Light of Blessing. The real challenge is reaching the correct chamber in the cave, understanding the notebook’s clue and making the spear pass through the distant ring.
Location and boundaries
Tobio’s Hollow Cave
Utojis Shrine belongs to Tobio’s Hollow Cave, a named cave complex in the East Necluda part of Hyrule. The cave is the relevant location for the shrine’s approach, quest activation and environmental hazards. The surrounding outdoor terrain is only the access area, not part of the shrine proper.
The shrine’s placement can be confusing because a map marker may appear to point towards an exposed location while the actual entrance is lower down and set into the side of the terrain. From the outside, look for the cave opening rather than for a visible shrine structure. Utojis Shrine does not appear until the quest’s spear challenge has been completed.
Regional classification
Most shrine lists classify Utojis Shrine as being in East Necluda. Some less reliable guides mislabel the area as Faron or Lanayru, but those descriptions conflict with the more consistent shrine directories and the shrine’s usual placement in East Necluda lists. The East Necluda classification is therefore the safest one to use for navigation and regional completion tracking.
Included areas
For the purposes of this guide, the Utojis Shrine location comprises:
It does not include East Necluda as a whole, nearby settlements or unrelated shrines in the surrounding region.

Access and recommended preparation
Best starting point
The most commonly recommended approach is to launch from Popla Foothills Skyview Tower and glide south-east towards Tobio’s Hollow Cave. This is useful because the cave entrance is awkward to identify from ground level and the tower provides both height and a clear approach line.
You can also approach overland if you are already exploring East Necluda. The cave is easier to find when you use the shrine’s approximate coordinates as a guide, then search the slopes and rock face for the opening.
Suggested equipment
The quest chamber provides Zonaite Spears, so you do not necessarily need to bring one from elsewhere. The wing material is the more important preparation item, although Keese encountered in or near the cave can supply one if you defeat them.

Tobio’s Hollow Cave
Tobio’s Hollow Cave is a short but winding cave route. It is not procedurally generated, and the relevant quest chamber has fixed features: a notebook, Zonaite Spears, a circular platform and a glowing ring. The exact enemy encounters on the approach are fixed environmental encounters rather than random shrine contents.
Cave hazards and enemies
Walkthroughs report Keese near the upper part of the cave and additional hostile encounters farther along the route. PowerPyx specifically describes Keese and Electric Chuchu in the approach. Defeat the Keese carefully and collect their materials, especially Keese Wings, before moving deeper.
Verified named enemies and hazards
The Electric Chuchu encounter is a hazard rather than a special boss. No dungeon boss or shrine guardian appears in Utojis Shrine.
Cave quest chamber
At the end of the approach, the cave opens into a larger chamber. This is the important location for the quest. You should find:
Reading the notebook activates the Legend of the Soaring Spear Shrine Quest. The quest can be easy to overlook if you walk past the writing or immediately begin experimenting with the spear.
Named locations and objects in scope
The circular platform and glowing ring are descriptive quest objects rather than separately named map locations.

Named locations and objects in scope
Legend of the Soaring Spear
The Legend of the Soaring Spear is the shrine’s unlocking challenge. Its central idea is straightforward: make a spear “soar” through the ring by attaching a wing and throwing it from the correct platform.
Throwing advice
The platform and ring are the important alignment cues. If the spear repeatedly falls short or veers away:
The game does not require a special named weapon beyond the Zonaite Spear used for the clue. The decisive requirements are the spear, a wing attachment and the correct throwing position.

Walkthrough
- 01Enter Tobio’s Hollow Cave. Follow the cave passage downwards. Deal with the Keese near the entrance and collect any useful drops.
Walkthrough
- 01Continue through the cave. Watch for Electric Chuchu and further Keese. Use a bow if the flying enemies are difficult to reach.
Walkthrough
- 01Find the quest chamber. At the lower end of the cave, look for the area with several Zonaite Spears and the circular platform.
Walkthrough
- 01Read the notebook. Interacting with the notebook starts the Legend of the Soaring Spear Shrine Quest and provides the clue for the solution.
Walkthrough
- 01Take a Zonaite Spear. The spears are placed in the chamber, so use one of those if you have not brought a suitable spear.
Walkthrough
- 01Attach a wing. Use Fuse to attach a Keese Wing to the spear. A Zonai Wing can also serve the same general purpose, according to walkthrough guidance.
Walkthrough
- 01Stand on the circular platform. When Link is positioned correctly, the platform glows green. This is the intended throwing position.
Walkthrough
- 01Aim through the glowing ring. The target is the green ring set into the rock structure across the chamber. Do not aim at the general area around it. The spear must pass through the ring.
Walkthrough
- 01Throw the fused spear. Hold the throw input, adjust the aim and release. The wing changes the spear’s flight sufficiently for it to cross the chamber and reach the target.
Walkthrough
- 01Retry if necessary. If the spear misses, swim or move across to retrieve it where possible. You can also use another Zonaite Spear and wing if the first attempt is lost. PowerPyx specifically recommends retrieving the spear and trying again when a throw fails.
Walkthrough
- 01Enter the revealed shrine. A large green shrine crystal appears after the successful throw, transforming into the entrance to Utojis Shrine.
Utojis Shrine interior
Utojis Shrine is a Rauru’s Blessing shrine. This means that the main puzzle has already been completed outside, in the approach or shrine quest. The interior is a reward chamber rather than a conventional trial.
Interior walkthrough
There are no additional combat rooms, moving platforms or ability tests inside this shrine.
Shrine inventory
The Large Zonai Charge is fixed shrine content, not a random drop. The Light of Blessing is granted once the shrine is completed.
What the rewards are useful for
A Large Zonai Charge is valuable for Zonai-device exploration because it temporarily restores or extends the energy available for Zonai devices. It is especially useful when experimenting with flying machines or other energy-intensive constructions, although the shrine does not require you to use one.
The Light of Blessing contributes towards Link’s health and stamina upgrades. Four Lights of Blessing can be exchanged at a Goddess Statue for a health container or stamina vessel.

Nearby connections and related locations
Popla Foothills Skyview Tower
Popla Foothills Skyview Tower is the recommended aerial starting point for reaching the cave. Launching from the tower allows Link to glide towards the cave’s general position and reduces the amount of searching required on the ground.
East Necluda
East Necluda is the wider Surface region used by most shrine directories for Utojis Shrine. The shrine should be counted as an East Necluda shrine even though the cave itself is a separate named subarea.
Sijotu Lightroot
Zelda Dungeon Wiki lists Sijotu Lightroot as Utojis Shrine’s Depths counterpart. This reflects the broad vertical relationship between Surface shrines and Depths lightroots, but the two are separate facilities with separate activation requirements. Finding or activating Sijotu Lightroot does not complete Utojis Shrine, and completing Utojis Shrine does not automatically activate the Lightroot.

Residents, NPCs and services
Utojis Shrine and Tobio’s Hollow Cave do not have a resident population, shop, stable, settlement or named quest-giver associated with them in the available shrine documentation.
The quest begins by reading the notebook in the cave rather than by speaking to a named NPC. This is an important distinction: the notebook is a quest trigger, not an ordinary resident or merchant.
Services not documented here
Do not treat the nearby East Necluda infrastructure as part of Utojis Shrine itself.

Missable and progression-sensitive details
Utojis Shrine is not permanently missable, but several aspects can be easy to overlook:
There is no evidence in the consulted sources of a reward being permanently lost through progression, story completion or a change in game mode. The shrine remains available for completion after the quest is discovered.
