Anedamimik Shrine

Anedamimik Shrine is a Shrine of Light in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Importancemajor

Key takeaways

  • Anedamimik Shrine is inside Deepback Bay Cave, not in the open air.
  • The flooded shrine entrance must be drained before the shrine becomes accessible.
  • The cave blockage is removed by breaking rocks beneath a Like Like.
  • The shrine chest contains a Large Zonai Charge.
  • The main puzzle requires Ultrahand-era shrine mechanisms, specifically a switch, a moving platform and Recall.
  • The final reward is one Light of Blessing, and completing the shrine makes it available as a fast-travel point.

Overview

Anedamimik Shrine is a Shrine of Light in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It is hidden inside Deepback Bay Cave on the eastern side of the Necluda region, near the northern edge of the Necluda Sea. Its shrine trial, “A Retraced Path”, uses a movable platform, a rolling sphere and Recall. The shrine cannot be entered immediately because its entrance area is flooded.

This guide covers the base game and treats the shrine, its cave entrance and the immediate surrounding area as separate but connected locations.

Location and boundaries

East Necluda

Anedamimik Shrine belongs to the Necluda shrine group and is located in the eastern part of the wider Necluda region. It is not part of Hateno Village, the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab or the Necluda Sea itself, although those locations are useful reference points when navigating to it.

The shrine is east of the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab, within the coastal cave system around Deepback Bay. One source describes it as being in the northern part of the Necluda Sea, while other location guides place it in East Necluda near Solewood Range. These descriptions refer to the same coastal area rather than separate shrine locations.

Deepback Bay Cave

Deepback Bay Cave is the immediate parent location of the shrine. The cave entrance leads into a broad cavern containing the shrine’s outer chamber. The shrine’s green entrance is visible from inside the cave, but the surrounding water prevents direct access until the cave’s drainage blockage is destroyed.

The cave and shrine should be considered separate entries:

Named locations within scope

Only Anedamimik Shrine and Deepback Bay Cave are directly part of the immediate encounter. The other names are regional references or nearby map connections.

Access and routes

The most straightforward approach is to travel through East Necluda towards the coastline east of the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. The shrine is concealed in Deepback Bay Cave, so searching only for a surface shrine glow can be misleading.

Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower is also a useful launch point for players approaching from the north-west. A guide recommends launching from the tower and gliding south-east towards the shrine’s general position, although the final approach still requires finding the cave entrance.

Cave access requirements

There is no reported quest requirement or story-gated event for entering Deepback Bay Cave. The obstacle is environmental rather than progression-based.

You should bring at least one method of breaking rock, such as:

PowerPyx describes using a bomb arrow against the rocks, while the general requirement is simply a reliable rock-breaking method.

About this guide

Major puzzle spoilers below

Deepback Bay Cave

Deepback Bay Cave is primarily an access area rather than a large independent dungeon. Its important features are the flooded shrine chamber, the Like Like and the breakable rock formation that controls the water level.

Hazards

The Like Like is not required to be defeated. You can avoid it while breaking the rocks, although eliminating it may make the area safer.

Cave directory

No ordinary NPCs, shops, businesses or faction facilities are documented within the immediate cave area. The cave is an exploration route and shrine access point rather than a settlement.

Anedamimik Shrine is built around reversing the movement of a large sphere. The switch changes the position or orientation of the moving platform and associated mechanism. Recall then sends the sphere back along its previous route so that it enters the target opening.

Room layout

The trial is short, but the timing can be awkward if the platform is moved before the sphere is in the correct position.

Step-by-step solution

1. Activate the switch

Strike the glowing switch at the front of the room. This changes the position of the platform and the sloped route on the right-hand side.

The exact visual movement can vary depending on the angle from which you approach, but the important result is that the right side becomes accessible for Ascend.

2. Collect the treasure chest

Move to the right side of the room and stand beneath the ledge containing the chest.

Use Ascend to pass through the platform or ledge above you. Open the chest to obtain:

Thonky and Zelda Dungeon both identify the chest reward as a Large Zonai Charge.

3. Reset the mechanism

Return to the glowing switch and strike it again. This restores the mechanism to the position needed for the sphere sequence.

Do not rush directly to the gate. The sphere must first be allowed to travel far enough along its track.

4. Release the sphere

Wait for the large sphere to emerge from the dispenser and roll across the floor. Allow it to travel towards the middle of the room.

When it has reached a suitable position, use Recall on the sphere.

Recall will begin reversing the sphere’s movement. The goal is to make the sphere travel back towards the opening from which it originally emerged.

5. Strike the switch while Recall is active

While the sphere is being rewound, hit the glowing switch again. This moves the mechanism and places the target opening in the sphere’s reversed path.

The timing is the central trick of the shrine:

The sphere enters the receptacle, causing the bars at the end of the room to open.

6. Reach the altar

Run through the opened gate before the mechanism resets. Some walkthroughs note that the gate can close again when Recall ends, requiring the puzzle to be repeated. If this happens, return to the switch and repeat the sphere sequence.

Interact with the altar to receive the Light of Blessing.

---

5. Strike the switch while Recall is active

  1. 01
    Release the sphere.
  2. 02
Let it roll away from its starting point.
  3. 03
    Activate Recall.
  4. 04
Strike the switch while the sphere is travelling backwards.
  5. 05
Allow the sphere to return into the target.

Puzzle troubleshooting

The sphere will not enter the hole

The platform may not be in the correct position. Reset the room by striking the switch and try again.

Recall ends before the gate opens

Recall needs to remain active long enough for the sphere to reach the target. Activate Recall after the sphere has rolled a reasonable distance, rather than immediately after it appears.

The gate is tied to the mechanism. Once the sphere stops being recalled, the opening may not remain available. Stand near the gate before starting the final attempt, then run through as soon as the sphere enters the receptacle.

The chest is difficult to reach

Use Ascend from directly below the ledge on the right side. You do not need to build a vehicle or move the chest platform manually.

Shrine reward

Four Lights of Blessing can be exchanged at a Goddess Statue for either a Heart Container or a Stamina Vessel. The shrine itself does not permanently award a weapon, armour piece or key story item.

Treasure chest

This is fixed shrine treasure rather than a random drop. It is worth collecting before entering the altar room because the chest is easy to overlook while concentrating on the sphere puzzle.

Fast travel

Once activated, the shrine becomes a permanent fast-travel point. The shrine can therefore be activated before solving the trial if you need to leave and return later, although the Light of Blessing and chest remain unclaimed until the puzzle is completed. PowerPyx specifically notes the shrine’s fast-travel function after completion.

---

Hateno Ancient Tech Lab

The Hateno Ancient Tech Lab is a useful landmark for locating the cave. Anedamimik Shrine is described as being east of the lab, but the shrine itself is not part of the lab complex and no lab-related quest is required to complete it.

Necluda Sea

The shrine lies in the coastal part of East Necluda, near the northern section of the Necluda Sea. Water dominates the surrounding landscape and also forms the initial environmental barrier inside Deepback Bay Cave.

Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower

Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower can be used for an aerial approach. Launching from the tower and gliding south-east is a practical option for players who have already activated it.

Kimimadena Lightroot

Zelda Dungeon lists Kimimadena Lightroot as the Depths counterpart to Anedamimik Shrine. This reflects the broader surface-to-Depths correspondence used throughout Tears of the Kingdom, but the Lightroot is a separate location and is not part of the shrine trial.

---

Enemies

The Like Like is associated with the cave access area. It is not the shrine’s boss, and Anedamimik Shrine contains no combat trial or boss encounter.

Environmental hazards

There is no evidence of a unique shrine-only enemy, miniboss or special combat reward here. The challenge is entirely environmental and mechanical.

---

No residents, named NPCs, shops, businesses, guards or settlement services are documented within Anedamimik Shrine or Deepback Bay Cave.

There is no known side quest, shrine quest or mission-only access condition attached specifically to Anedamimik Shrine in the base game.

---

For completion-focused players, the important checklist is simple:

---

Anedamimik’s trial title, “A Retraced Path”, describes its central mechanic directly. The player does not guide the sphere forwards into the target. Instead, the sphere must first travel away from the desired opening and then be sent backwards with Recall.

The shrine also demonstrates a common Tears of the Kingdom design principle: an ability introduced earlier in the game can later be used in a more deliberate puzzle context. Ascend is used for vertical access to the chest, while Recall is used not simply to stop or reverse an object, but to synchronise that object with a moving mechanism.

The shrine’s surface location and its listed Depths counterpart, Kimimadena Lightroot, also fit the game’s broader map relationship between surface shrines and underground exploration points. The two locations should nevertheless be recorded separately for completion purposes.

Is Anedamimik Shrine in East Necluda or the Necluda Sea?

Both descriptions refer to the same general area. The shrine is in East Necluda, inside Deepback Bay Cave, close to the northern part of the Necluda Sea. It is not an open-water shrine.

Why is the shrine entrance flooded?

The water is controlled by a breakable rock blockage in the cave. Destroy the rocks above the stone protrusion near the Like Like to drain the area.

Do I have to defeat the Like Like?

No. The Like Like can be avoided while you break the rocks, although defeating it may make the approach safer.

What is in the shrine chest?

The chest contains a Large Zonai Charge.

What abilities are needed?

The intended solution uses Ascend to reach the chest and Recall to reverse the rolling sphere. A rock-breaking method is also needed outside the shrine to drain the cave.

Can the shrine gate close again?

Yes. The gate may close when the Recall sequence ends. Position yourself near the gate and move through immediately after the sphere enters the target. If necessary, repeat the mechanism.

Is there a boss?

No. Anedamimik Shrine is a puzzle shrine with no combat boss.
