Overview
This guide covers the base game of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It treats West Necluda as a location across the Surface, Sky and Depths, while keeping nearby East Necluda, Faron and Lanayru areas separate.
This guide covers the base game of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It treats West Necluda as a location across the Surface, Sky and Depths, while keeping nearby East Necluda, Faron and Lanayru areas separate.
Introduction
West Necluda is the western half of the Necluda region in southeastern Hyrule. It is a broad territory centred on Kakariko Village, Dueling Peaks and the roads leading south from Central Hyrule. Its landscape combines wooded hills, steep mountain passes, rivers, ruins, caves and the broad Necluda road network.
The region is important at almost every stage of the game. Early on, it offers one of the most useful Skyview Towers, several accessible Shrines, a stable, shops and straightforward combat encounters. Later, Kakariko Village becomes central to the investigation of the Ring Ruins and the Dragon’s Tears, while the corresponding Depths contain major Zonai facilities connected with the Spirit Temple.
West Necluda should not be confused with the whole of Necluda. Hateno Village, Fort Hateno, Mount Dunsel, Lurelin Village and the Necluda coast are generally treated as East Necluda or neighbouring regions, rather than part of West Necluda. The region’s exact visual boundary is not always sharply marked in-game, but the game’s location hierarchy distinguishes West Necluda from East Necluda, West Necluda Sky and West Necluda Depths.
Surface West Necluda
Surface West Necluda occupies the western side of Necluda. Its western approaches lead towards Central Hyrule and the Hylia River area. Its eastern side approaches the hills and roads associated with East Necluda. Southwards, the roads eventually lead towards Faron and the route to Lurelin Village, but Lurelin itself is not part of West Necluda.
The most useful practical boundary is the change in regional identity around the following landmarks:
West Necluda is a gameplay region rather than a political province with a clearly fenced border. Map guides commonly describe it as stretching from the Hylia River side of Hyrule towards the Necluda Sea, although the coast and eastern settlements belong to neighbouring regional groupings in many location lists.
West Necluda Sky
The sky above the region is not one single island. The relevant named group is the West Necluda Sky Archipelago, which contains six Korok Seeds according to the regional Korok directory. Other nearby sky groups, including the broader Necluda Sky Archipelago and North Necluda Sky Archipelago, should not automatically be merged into West Necluda Sky.
West Necluda Depths
The Depths are treated as a corresponding underground region beneath West Necluda. They are not simply caves below individual Surface landmarks. The named West Necluda Depths area includes Lightroots, mines, groves, chasms, the Secluded Coliseum and the Spirit Temple complex.

Kakariko Village and the Ring Ruins
Kakariko Village is the principal settlement of West Necluda. It is a Sheikah community built around a steep, wooded valley with waterfalls, bridges and houses arranged on different elevations.
In Tears of the Kingdom, the village is dominated by the Ring Ruins, enormous stone structures suspended above and around Kakariko after the Upheaval. Their appearance gives the village a new story focus and leads into the investigation connected with the Dragon’s Tears.
Named entries: Kakariko Village area
The Ring Ruins investigation is progression-sensitive. Early in the game, guards restrict access to parts of the ruins. The restriction is connected with the regional story and should not be treated as a permanent absence of content.
Named entries: Kakariko Village area
Dueling Peaks
Dueling Peaks are the region’s defining natural landmark. The two mountains form a dramatic split valley with roads and watercourses passing between them. They are visible from a wide area of Hyrule and are among the most reliable navigation points when travelling between Central Hyrule, Kakariko and the southern roads.
The mountains contain caves, climbing routes, enemy camps and Korok puzzles. Their steep faces make stamina management more important than it first appears. Ascending from the road is usually easier than attempting a direct climb from the lower ravines.
Named entries: Dueling Peaks area
Some cave names and minor landmark names are displayed only when the relevant location is discovered. Map completion sources may therefore use slightly different grouping conventions from the game’s own regional labels.
Sahasra Slope and Popla Foothills approaches
Sahasra Slope rises south-east of Kakariko Village. It is wooded and uneven, with steep inclines, small ruins and paths that become useful when approaching the Skyview Tower.
The Popla Foothills area lies towards the south-western approaches of Necluda. It is closely connected with West Necluda in practical exploration terms, but the game and guide maps may classify some locations there separately. The Popla Foothills Skyview Tower is therefore a nearby connection rather than a second West Necluda tower.

From Lookout Landing
The simplest early route is south-east from Lookout Landing towards the Necluda roads.
This route gives access to useful early Shrines without requiring advanced armour, high stamina or a large stock of specialised elixirs.
From Lookout Landing: steps
- 01Leave Lookout Landing by the southern or south-eastern road.
- 02Follow the main road towards the Dueling Peaks region.
- 03Use the stable or Kakariko route as a base.
- 04Visit Sahasra Slope Skyview Tower before attempting a broad regional sweep.
From Kakariko Village to Sahasra Slope Skyview Tower
Sahasra Slope Skyview Tower is located on the slopes north-east of Kakariko Village. The tower’s listed position is approximately 1341, -1176, 0166, although coordinate displays can vary slightly between map references.
The tower is not a combat dungeon, but the surrounding terrain can make the approach awkward in the early game. It is worth activating before collecting Koroks because the aerial view reveals roads, valleys and islands that are difficult to read from the ground.
A practical approach is
- 01Start at Kakariko Village.
- 02Follow the road north-east towards Sahasra Slope.
- 03Climb the gentler northern side rather than attacking the steepest face.
- 04Search the tower entrance and nearby slope if the door appears obstructed.
- 05Activate the terminal and use the launch to survey the surrounding hills and sky islands.
From Dueling Peaks Stable
Dueling Peaks Stable is the best southern base for a horse-focused route. From it, players can:
The stable also serves as a convenient location for Penn’s Potential Princess Sightings! investigation.
Entering the Depths
Two named chasms are associated with West Necluda Depths:
Once below the Surface, light management becomes essential. Activate nearby Lightroots as soon as possible, especially before attempting mines, coliseums or long stretches of open gloom.

Important residents and story characters
Paya
Paya is the leader of Kakariko Village during the events of Tears of the Kingdom. She is closely involved with the Ring Ruins investigation and the village’s response to the mysterious structures.
Claree
Claree runs the Enchanted clothing shop. The shop is associated with the Stealth armour set and is one of the earliest reliable places to buy clothing that improves stealth.
Rola
Rola operates the general shop in Kakariko Village. Her stock focuses on ordinary supplies rather than rare specialist equipment.
Cado
Cado is associated with the village entrance and local security. He is also involved in village-related side content.
Lasli
Lasli is a Kakariko resident whose routine and dialogue are especially relevant during the village’s ordinary daily life. She is not a shopkeeper or a general-purpose quest hub.
Penn
Penn appears at stables while investigating reports for the Lucky Clover Gazette. His regional appearance forms part of the wider Potential Princess Sightings! side adventure.
Beedle
Beedle may appear at or near the stable and sells travelling supplies. His stock and exact position should not be confused with the permanent inventories of Kakariko’s shops.
Shops and services
The precise inventory of shops may change after story progression or restocking. A shop’s name should not be taken as evidence that it sells every item associated with its theme.
---
West Necluda and its neighbouring approaches contain several Shrines. Because guide maps divide the borderlands differently, Shrine lists should be checked against the map location rather than assigned solely by the nearest named settlement.
Jochisiu Shrine is associated with the southern Dueling Peaks and the Squabble River area, while Susub Shrine is in the Popla Foothills vicinity.
---
Shops and services
| Location | Function | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Enchanted | Clothing shop | Sells Stealth armour pieces and other clothing stock |
| Rola’s Shop | General store | Basic food ingredients, mushrooms and arrows |
| Dueling Peaks Stable | Horse services | Boarding, retrieval and Pony Point services |
| Kakariko Village Well | Exploration location | Not a conventional shop or service building |
| Zonai Survey Team Base | Story and research location | Associated with the Ring Ruins investigation |
Frequently associated Shrines include
For a reliable regional sweep
- 01Activate Sahasra Slope Skyview Tower.
- 02Mark visible Shrine lights from the tower.
- 03Clear Kakariko-area Shrines before travelling south.
- 04Search the Dueling Peaks roads and caves.
- 05Treat Popla Foothills Shrines as a neighbouring-border checklist rather than assuming all belong to the same map region.
Ring Ruins investigation
The Ring Ruins are the most important West Necluda story feature. The investigation connects Kakariko Village with the Dragon’s Tears and the wider historical mystery surrounding the Zonai, Rauru and Sonia.
The exact quest names and access conditions are progression-dependent. Do not treat the early restriction as a bug or as proof that the ruins are decorative only. The Ring Ruins become a substantial story location later.
The broad progression is
- 01Speak with the relevant Kakariko leadership and researchers.
- 02Learn why access to the ruins is restricted.
- 03Advance the main-story conditions that permit further investigation.
- 04Examine the ruins and associated records.
- 05Continue the Dragon’s Tears investigation through the wider Hyrule quest chain.
Potential Princess Sightings!
The Dueling Peaks Stable is one of the regional stops for Penn’s investigation into sightings of Princess Zelda. This side adventure is not unique to West Necluda, but the stable’s chapter makes it a natural part of a regional route.
Korok Seeds
There are 75 Korok Seeds on the West Necluda Surface. Their puzzles include:
The six Koroks in the West Necluda Sky Archipelago use a separate sky-area list. Nintendo Life’s directory identifies the six puzzles as including tree-top rocks, rock patterns, light rings, flowers and a glide-to-stump challenge.
Korok route advice
For efficient collection, divide the region into four sweeps:
Do not rely only on the Surface total. Sky Koroks are listed separately, and some paired puzzles count as two seeds despite presenting as one encounter.
---
The Depths beneath West Necluda are darker and more dangerous than the Surface, but they are also one of the region’s most significant late-game areas.
Korok route advice
- 01Kakariko and Ring Ruins: collect village, waterfall and hillside puzzles.
- 02Sahasra Slope: search elevated slopes and tree stumps after activating the tower.
- 03Dueling Peaks: follow both sides of the valley, checking caves and road bends.
- 04Southern woods and ruins: use the road network and revisit areas after obtaining better climbing and gliding options.
Named Depths directory
Major facilities
These entries are listed as part of West Necluda Depths by Zelda Wiki’s regional directory.
Lightroots
Major facilities
Abandoned Kakariko Mine
The Abandoned Kakariko Mine is the underground counterpart to Kakariko’s Surface location. As with other abandoned mines, it is useful for Zonaite, treasure and underground exploration, but it may also contain hostile encounters and gloom hazards.
Dueling Canyons Mine
This mine lies beneath the Dueling Peaks area. It is a natural destination after exploring the Surface mountains and provides a clear example of how Surface geography corresponds to the underground map.
Secluded Coliseum
The Secluded Coliseum is a Depths combat arena. It should be approached with gloom recovery, strong weapons and sufficient healing food. Coliseum encounters are combat-focused and should not be treated as ordinary monster camps.
Spirit Temple and the depots
The Spirit Temple complex and its associated depots are tied to the game’s main story and the construction of the late-game Sage-related equipment. The depots are mission-linked facilities rather than ordinary optional ruins.
The Right-Arm Depot and Right-Leg Depot are explicitly listed among West Necluda Depths locations. The wider Spirit Temple sequence also involves facilities that may be treated separately by some map directories, so players should distinguish the regional Depths area from the complete story route.
---
Common hazards
West Necluda is generally suitable for early exploration, but the Depths and story-linked facilities are considerably more dangerous. Hyrule Archive characterises the region as accessible early in the game while still containing substantial later-game content.
Enemy planning
Surface encounters commonly include Bokoblins, Moblins, Lizalfos and other standard Hyrule enemies. Enemy strength varies with world progression, so a camp that was manageable early may become more heavily upgraded later.
Resources
The wooded slopes and valleys are useful for collecting:
The region is also a good early location for gathering materials needed for cooking and stealth-oriented exploration.

Surface settlements and landmarks
Depths
The directory above consolidates named entries found in the regional and Depths sources, but the game’s map labels can vary by discovery state and by whether a guide groups a border landmark with West Necluda or a neighbouring subregion. The region should therefore not be considered a perfectly surveyed administrative boundary.
---
West Necluda retains much of the identity established in Breath of the Wild: Kakariko remains a Sheikah settlement, Dueling Peaks remains the dominant natural landmark and the roads still guide players between Central Hyrule and southeastern Hyrule.
Tears of the Kingdom changes the meaning of the region by adding three important layers:
This layered design is why a West Necluda guide must not stop at Kakariko Village or the Dueling Peaks. The Surface, Sky and Depths are related but distinct location categories, with separate collectibles, access routes and progression states.
Depths
Depths: steps
- 01The Ring Ruins, which turn Kakariko into a major historical investigation site.
- 02The sky islands, which make the region vertically explorable rather than purely terrestrial.
- 03The Depths, where the abandoned mines, coliseum and Spirit Temple facilities expand the region beneath the familiar landscape.
