Introduction

Susub Shrine is a small but unusually well-hidden Shrine of Light in West Necluda. It is not located in an open field or on a visible cliff face. Instead, the shrine is reached through the Deya Village Ruins East Well, where Link must cross a flooded cavern and climb towards a high ledge near a waterfall.

The shrine itself is a Rauru’s Blessing challenge. There is no puzzle or combat trial inside. The real challenge is reaching the shrine’s entrance without being forced into a fight with a Stone Talus or losing progress on the wet, awkward climbing route. Once activated, Susub Shrine provides a Magic Staff, a Light of Blessing, and a permanent fast-travel point.

Scope and location boundaries

This guide covers Susub Shrine itself and the immediate access area needed to reach it: the blocked well entrance, the flooded cavern, the waterfall-side landmass and the climbing route to the shrine.

It does not treat the entire Deya Village Ruins area, West Necluda, the nearby lakes and hills, or the wider Depths as part of the shrine. Those places are useful navigation references, but they are neighbouring areas rather than sections of Susub Shrine.

The shrine is generally placed in West Necluda by location references. One guide describes the broader area as Faron, reflecting the way some game maps and guides group the southern region, but the more specific location designation is West Necluda. The important practical distinction is that Susub Shrine is reached from the Deya Village Ruins, not from a Faron settlement or a separate cave system.

Named directory

Named shrine entities

The directory above separates the shrine from the neighbouring ruins and well. The well is the access route, not a second shrine or an internal subdivision of Susub Shrine. Susub Shrine’s interior is a compact reward chamber.

Surface route

The entrance can be easy to overlook because it is not presented as a conventional cave mouth. The well is blocked by rocks, so Link must first create an opening. A Bomb Flower is the most direct option, although other suitable explosive methods can also clear the obstruction. One documented route recommends dropping a Bomb Flower into the blocked hole and using a fire-based attack to break the obstruction.

Surface route: steps

  1. 01
Travel to the Deya Village Ruins in West Necluda.
  2. 02
Search the ruins for the Deya Village Ruins East Well.
  3. 03
Clear the rocks blocking the well entrance.
  4. 04
Drop into the well and glide towards the cavern’s rock formations.
  5. 05
Reach the raised land near the waterfall.
  6. 06
Climb or use a temporary Ultrahand-and-Recall platform to reach the shrine ledge.
  7. 07
    Activate Susub Shrine before entering.

Recommended equipment

Susub Shrine does not require a particular sage, armour set or quest state. The following items are useful rather than mandatory:

The route is much less demanding if Link has extra stamina, but a normal starting stamina wheel is enough with sensible climbing and gliding.

The blocked entrance

The well entrance is the first obstacle. The rubble prevents Link from simply dropping into the cavern, so open it before attempting the route.

A Bomb Flower attached to an arrow is a reliable solution. If you do not have Bomb Flowers, use another explosive item or a suitable fused weapon. Avoid wasting time trying to climb through the blockage from an awkward angle.

Once the entrance is open, drop into the well. Glide rather than falling directly, since the cavern contains water and rock shelves. Gliding also gives you time to identify the safest landing area.

The flooded cavern

The cavern contains a large body of water, rocky platforms and a waterfall-side route leading towards the shrine. The shrine is not immediately reachable from the bottom of the well. You need to cross the cavern and gain height.

The cavern’s geography is more important than the shrine interior. Susub Shrine is designed as a reward for solving the approach problem, rather than for solving a puzzle after entering.

A Stone Talus can appear if Link lands on the wrong part of the large landmass near the waterfall. The encounter is not necessary to complete Susub Shrine.

According to the documented route, landing on the moss-covered portion avoids spawning the Talus, while landing on the red section causes the enemy to appear. This makes the landing position important. Aim for the mossy area and avoid dropping directly onto the red section.

If the Stone Talus does spawn, you have several choices:

The Talus is best treated as an optional environmental hazard rather than a required shrine boss. There is no shrine-specific reward for defeating it.

The flooded cavern: steps

  1. 01
Retreat and reposition. Glide or climb away before it fully engages.
  2. 02
Use the terrain. Stay on higher rock shelves and continue towards the shrine.
  3. 03
Fight it. This is possible, but it is unnecessary if the objective is only to reach Susub Shrine.
  4. 04
Use the cavern’s water and platforms carefully. Avoid being knocked into the water, where recovery can cost stamina and time.

The wooden-plank method

A wooden plank in the cavern can be used with Ultrahand to make the final ascent easier.

This method is not the only possible solution. Players can also climb, glide, build a vehicle or use other Zonai-device arrangements if they have enough stamina and materials. The plank-and-Recall route is useful because it turns an awkward wet climb into a controlled vertical lift.

The wooden-plank method: steps

  1. 01
Pick up the plank with Ultrahand.
  2. 02
Move it onto the piece of land closest to the waterfall.
  3. 03
Hold or position it against the cliff near the shrine for roughly half a minute.
  4. 04
Place it back on the water or lower platform.
  5. 05
    Step onto it.
  6. 06
Use Recall to reverse its previous movement and carry Link upwards.
  7. 07
Finish the ascent by climbing the remaining short section.

Climbing advice

The cliff faces near the shrine are wet, so ordinary climbing is unreliable. If Link begins to slide:

A failed climb is not normally dangerous, but falling can send Link back into the water and require another approach.

Interior layout

Susub Shrine is a Rauru’s Blessing shrine. Its interior consists of a simple route through a void-like chamber, a treasure chest on the middle platform and the shrine terminal at the far end. There are no switches, moving blocks, combat rooms or ability checks.

Numbered walkthrough

The shrine’s treasure is described as being in the centre of the middle platform. It is fixed content, not a random drop.

Numbered walkthrough: steps

  1. 01
    Enter the activated shrine.
  2. 02
Walk along the path into the main chamber.
  3. 03
Open the stone treasure chest on the central platform.
  4. 04
    Collect the Magic Staff.
  5. 05
Continue to the end of the chamber.
  6. 06
Interact with the green shrine terminal in front of the Rauru and Sonia Statue.
  7. 07
    Collect the Light of Blessing.
  8. 08
Leave the shrine or use it as a fast-travel point.

Rewards and services

The Magic Staff is a magic-oriented weapon rather than a general-purpose high-damage reward. Its usefulness depends on the materials fused to it and on whether you want a weapon for elemental or magical effects.

The Light of Blessing can later be exchanged at a Goddess Statue for a Heart Container or Stamina Vessel. Susub Shrine itself does not contain a Goddess Statue service, so any exchange must be made elsewhere.

Outside the shrine

The surrounding well cavern may contain ordinary exploration resources depending on the exact route and the objects you interact with, but they should not be confused with Susub Shrine’s official reward. The shrine’s documented fixed item is the Magic Staff.

The Stone Talus, if triggered, is an enemy encounter rather than a required shrine collectible. Any materials obtained from it are enemy drops and should be treated separately from the shrine’s guaranteed chest reward.

Susub Shrine corresponds to Busus Lightroot in the Depths. This is useful when planning a wider exploration route, because surface shrines and Depths Lightroots occupy corresponding positions on their respective maps. Activating the surface shrine does not, by itself, activate the Lightroot, and activating the Lightroot does not replace completing the shrine. They are separate progression points connected by location.

The Lightroot is therefore a nearby map relationship, not part of Susub Shrine’s interior or surface access route.

For a low-risk visit, use this order

  1. 01
Prepare Bomb Flowers or another explosive option.
  2. 02
    Carry a few stamina-restoring meals.
  3. 03
Travel to the Deya Village Ruins.
  4. 04
Open the Deya Village Ruins East Well.
  5. 05
Glide to the highest safe rock formation.
  6. 06
Aim for the moss-covered portion of the waterfall-side landmass.
  7. 07
Avoid the red area that can trigger the Stone Talus.
  8. 08
Use Ultrahand and Recall with the wooden plank if the cliff is too slippery.
  9. 09
    Activate Susub Shrine.
  10. 10
Collect the Magic Staff before claiming the Light of Blessing.
  11. 11
Mark the shrine as complete and use it as a fast-travel point.

Mistaking the well for the shrine entrance

The well is only the route to Susub Shrine. The shrine itself is farther inside the cavern and higher up near the waterfall.

Landing on the wrong platform

The large island contains a hazardous red section. Landing there can spawn the Stone Talus. Aim for the moss-covered part instead.

Trying to climb the whole cliff

The wet rock makes a direct ascent frustrating. Use stamina food, look for dry ledges or use the plank-and-Recall method.

Fighting the Stone Talus unnecessarily

The Talus is avoidable and does not guard a required key or shrine mechanism. If it appears, retreating is usually faster than fighting it unless you specifically want its drops.

Leaving without opening the chest

Because the shrine has no puzzle, it is easy to walk straight to the terminal and forget the central platform. Open the chest first to collect the Magic Staff.

Susub Shrine has no known story lock, quest requirement or region-state condition. It can be completed whenever Link can reach the Deya Village Ruins and access the well.

The following content is permanently available once reached:

The Stone Talus encounter is not required and does not represent a missable reward. The only practical missable opportunity is leaving the shrine before opening its chest, although the chest remains available if you return later.

Does Susub Shrine have a puzzle?

No. It is a Rauru’s Blessing shrine. The challenge is reaching the shrine from the well, not solving an internal trial.

What is inside the chest?

The chest contains a Magic Staff. It is on the middle platform in the shrine chamber.

Do I have to defeat the Stone Talus?

No. The Stone Talus can be avoided by landing on the moss-covered section of the large island near the waterfall.

Where exactly should I enter?

Use the Deya Village Ruins East Well. The well is in the Deya Village Ruins area, and its entrance is blocked by rocks that must be cleared first.

Is Susub Shrine in Faron or West Necluda?

The most specific location designation is West Necluda. Some walkthroughs describe the broader southern map area as Faron, but the shrine’s local placement is the Deya Village Ruins area of West Necluda.

Does the shrine connect to the Depths?

Yes. Susub Shrine corresponds to Busus Lightroot, although the shrine and Lightroot are separate locations that must be activated independently.
