About this guide
Scope: Base game, surface Hyrule. Spoilers: This guide discusses the pirate occupation, the village’s restoration, its follow-up activities, rewards and post-restoration services.
Overview
Lurelin Village is a small coastal settlement in southeastern Hyrule. In Tears of the Kingdom, it is one of the game’s most substantial optional story locations. The village begins in a ruined, dangerous state after being occupied by monster forces acting as pirates, but it can eventually be cleared, rebuilt and turned into a useful seaside hub.
The settlement lies on the boundary between the Faron and East Necluda areas. Map and reference sources commonly describe it as an East Necluda location, while broader regional material places it in Faron. For practical play, treat it as the southeastern coast of East Necluda, reached through the Faron Highroad and the coast around Mount Dunsel.
Unlike a major story settlement such as Lookout Landing or Gerudo Town, Lurelin is not required for the main quest. Its content is nevertheless unusually rewarding because clearing and restoring it unlocks free or discounted services, repeatable activities, useful food and fish, and a large amount of local character development.
---
Surrounding environment
The coast is rich in tropical materials. Palm trees provide Palm Fruit and Korok Leaves, while the sea and beach provide fish, crabs and other cooking ingredients. The village’s location also makes it a convenient base for exploring the southern Necluda coastline, Eventide Island and the sea routes around the Faron coast.
The area has no nearby stable immediately beside the settlement. Lakeside Stable is the closest commonly used stable, while Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower is a practical launch point for gliding towards Lurelin.
---
Lurelin is compact, but its buildings and activities are spread across several functional zones.
Central village
The central settlement contains the largest concentration of homes, ruined buildings and monster patrols. During the occupied state, enemies may stand on roofs, inside ruined structures and around the paths. After liberation, this becomes the main residential and commercial area.
Named structures and facilities associated with the village include:
The Fishing Resort Inn, Lucky Treasure Shop and restaurant are particularly important because their functions change after the restoration project.
Docks and fishing area
The docks extend southward from the village and are used by fishermen, merchants and later restoration-related characters. The general store is associated with the largest pier. In the original village, Mubs runs the store; in Tears of the Kingdom, the store’s eventual reopening involves Garini and a separate quest chain.
Beach and Goddess Statue
A Goddess Statue stands on the beach southwest of the inn. It is a normal Goddess Statue rather than a special regional object, so it can be used to exchange four Lights of Blessing for a heart container or stamina vessel.
The beach is also a useful place to gather seafood and to approach the village from the western side.
Village Well and lower areas
The village well is relevant during the monster-clearing sequence. Not every enemy is standing openly in the streets, so players who cannot trigger completion should search below ground and check the well. Reports from players and guide material consistently identify underground enemies as a common reason for apparently incomplete clears, although this is not a separate village settlement.
---
From Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower
This is the most direct aerial route.
Sifumim Shrine is a useful travel point because it sits near the approach to Lurelin and is associated with the village’s liberation sequence.
From Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower: steps
- 01Launch from Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower.
- 02Glide southeast towards the coast.
- 03Aim for the shoreline near the village rather than landing directly in the occupied settlement.
- 04Activate Sifumim Shrine when approaching from the west or northwest.
By road
The Faron Highroad approaches the region from inland Hyrule. This route is slower but allows you to gather materials and discover nearby landmarks. It is also suitable if you are travelling with a horse.
By sea
Lurelin’s coastal position makes it accessible by raft, boat or other Zonai craft. Travelling by water is useful after the village has been restored, especially when visiting Eventide Island or experimenting with the Lurelin Water Rally.
---
Lurelin is best understood as a location that changes over time.
The game does not require you to visit Lurelin at a particular point in the main story. It is possible to reach it early, although the monster battle can be demanding if Link has weak armour, few hearts or limited healing supplies.
---
By sea
| State | What the player sees | Main activities |
|---|---|---|
| Occupied | Damaged buildings, absent villagers and monster forces | Begin liberation |
| Liberated | Monsters defeated but structures still ruined | Speak to Rozel and begin restoration |
| Restored | Buildings repaired and villagers return | Use inn, restaurant and treasure shop |
| Resort development | Additional water-based activity becomes available | Complete Lurelin Resort Project and race boats |
Residents and local figures
The following named characters are associated with Lurelin in Tears of the Kingdom or with its restoration:
The precise point at which some characters return depends on progression. Several former residents can initially be found away from Lurelin because of the pirate occupation. Garini and Mubs are especially important because they can be found at Lookout Landing before the village is safe.
Rozel
Rozel is the village chief and the main local authority during the crisis. After Link reaches the area, Rozel explains that the villagers escaped safely and asks for help dealing with the monsters.
Rozel is also connected with the village’s fishing identity. In the restored settlement, he remains an important source of local dialogue and can provide a reward connected with the chief’s house restoration.
Bolson
Bolson is involved in the village restoration work. He is the practical organiser who helps turn the ruined structures back into usable buildings. The restoration project is one of the game’s clearest examples of Bolson Construction’s continuing role after the events of Breath of the Wild.
Garini and Mubs
Garini and Mubs are displaced Lurelin residents found at Lookout Landing. Their concern starts the Village Attacked by Pirates side quest.
After the village is safe, Garini eventually returns and can reopen the Lurelin Village Store, but this requires additional progression and a follow-up task involving a boat from Tenoko Island.
Cloyne
Cloyne runs the Lucky Treasure Shop, a treasure-chest gambling game. In the pre-occupation version of the settlement, the player wagers rupees on one of three chests. After the building is restored, the game remains available, with a free play included as part of the completed restoration benefits.
---
Fishing Resort Inn
The inn is initially damaged and flooded. Restoring it requires clearing the interior and helping Bolson drain the water. Once repaired, it functions as accommodation.
The inn should not be confused with a stable. Lurelin has no registered horse service comparable to a stable.
Village Restaurant
The restaurant is one of the most useful rewards from the restoration project.
To restore it, Link must clear out the interior and fit a log through the damaged structure. Afterward:
Lucky Treasure Shop
The Lucky Treasure Shop is a three-chest game run by Cloyne. The player pays a wager, chooses a chest and receives the rupees inside the selected chest. The reward varies, so it is a gambling activity rather than a reliable money-making method.
Once Lurelin is restored, Link receives one free play. The free attempt is useful for trying the game without risking rupees, but it should not be treated as a dependable source of wealth.
Lurelin Village Store
The general store is connected with Garini and Mubs. Its later stock includes:
These items are especially useful for seafood recipes, floating-device construction and upgrading equipment. The store’s reopening is not identical to the initial village restoration and should be treated as a separate progression step.
---
Lurelin Village Store
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Octo Balloon | Store stock |
| Octorok Eyeball | Store stock |
| Ironshell Crab | Store stock |
| Mighty Porgy | Store stock |
Ruffian-Infested Village
The main liberation activity is the Ruffian-Infested Village Side Adventure. The village is occupied by a large Monster Force described as pirate-like invaders. Link must defeat all of them before the settlement can move to its liberated state.
The enemies occupy multiple layers of the location:
The exact enemy composition scales with the state of the world and may include stronger Bokoblins and Lizalfos. Because the battle is distributed across the village, simply defeating the obvious enemies in the main street is not always enough.
Practical combat advice
When the final monster is defeated, the village is safe and the restoration sequence can begin.
---
Practical combat advice
- 01Scout from above first. Use a roof, cliff or paraglider to identify enemy groups.
- 02Clear isolated groups before attacking the centre. This reduces the chance of being surrounded.
- 03Search the village well and lower areas. A hidden enemy is a common cause of failed completion.
- 04Check the water and boats. Some parts of the encounter are not on ordinary ground.
- 05Use shock, ice and fire effects carefully. Elemental attacks can control groups, but fire near wooden structures may obscure the battlefield.
- 06Bring healing and a few strong weapons. The village fight is optional, so there is no penalty for leaving and returning better prepared.
Village Attacked by Pirates
Type: Side Quest Starting point: Garini or Mubs at Lookout Landing Reward: Mighty Salt-Grilled Crab
Walkthrough
If the village has already been cleared before the quest is formally started, the quest can complete when Garini is spoken to.
This quest is primarily a framing device for the larger village story. The meaningful local rewards come from the restoration and later resort activities.
Walkthrough
- 01Speak to Garini or Mubs at the Lookout Landing General Store.
- 02Travel to Lurelin Village.
- 03Speak with Rozel near the village approach.
- 04Complete Ruffian-Infested Village by defeating the Monster Force.
- 05Return to Garini and Mubs at Lookout Landing.
- 06Collect the Mighty Salt-Grilled Crab reward.
Lurelin Village Restoration Project
Type: Side Adventure Prerequisite: Complete the village liberation sequence Main materials: 20 Hylian Rice and 15 ordinary logs
After the monsters are gone, speak to Rozel and Bolson to begin the rebuilding work. The project involves clearing damaged structures and supplying logs. Some buildings require special placement puzzles rather than simply handing over materials.
General preparation
Do not assume palm trees count as the same material as ordinary logs. The project’s material requirement distinguishes the supplied logs from the palm-tree pieces used in certain building repairs.
Restoration rewards
Individual repairs provide small rewards, including food, rupees and equipment. Notable examples include:
Once all five structures are complete, the village holds a celebratory feast. The full project’s lasting benefits are more valuable than a single completion item: free accommodation, a free daily restaurant meal and one free Lucky Treasure Shop attempt.
Restoration rewards
| Building | Associated reward or benefit |
|---|---|
| Inn | Five Voltfruit during its restoration sequence; free stays after completion |
| Restaurant | Tough Seafood Rice; one free meal per day after completion |
| Armes’ House | Purple Rupee and additional treasure |
| Chief’s House | Three Armored Porgy |
| Lucky Treasure Shop | Restored treasure-chest game; one free play after completion |
Lurelin Resort Project
The Lurelin Resort Project follows the village restoration and develops the settlement’s tourist side. It is associated with the Great Plateau and East Necluda and ultimately unlocks the Lurelin Water Rally.
The Water Rally is a repeatable Zonai-building activity. Link constructs or uses a boat and races through a marked water course. It is separate from the treasure-chest game and should not be treated as part of the original restoration project.
---
Lurelin itself is valuable as a gathering location even before the quests are complete.
Common local materials
Fish and crabs are particularly relevant because the village’s shops, restaurant and residents all reflect its fishing economy.
Treasure and chests
The Lucky Treasure Shop provides variable chest rewards. There are also ordinary treasure opportunities around the village, including water-access areas and restored buildings.
A useful exploration habit is to revisit the bay after the village is safe and inspect the water around the piers. Do not treat every visible underwater chest as part of the main quest, since these are separate exploration rewards.
Goddess Statue
The beach Goddess Statue is a permanent progression facility. If you are already carrying four Lights of Blessing, it is worth using before leaving the region rather than returning later.
---
Sifumim Shrine
Sifumim Shrine is the most important nearby fast-travel point for the village’s liberation content. Activate it before beginning the fight if possible. It is also a convenient departure point for returning to the village after visiting Lookout Landing.
Palmorae Ruins
Palmorae Ruins lie east of Lurelin on Palmorae Beach. They are a separate archaeological location and should be explored independently. Their proximity makes them a natural extension of a Lurelin coastal route, but they are not a village district.
Eventide Island
Eventide Island lies offshore in the Necluda Sea. Rozel and other local dialogue establish a connection between Lurelin’s fishermen and the island. It can be reached by paraglider, raft or a Zonai boat, though the sea journey is easier once Link has suitable stamina and a reliable watercraft.
Korne Beach
Korne Beach lies south of Lurelin. In earlier continuity it is associated with Kilton’s nighttime appearances, but that should not be confused with a Lurelin Village service or resident.
---
Route 1: First visit and liberation
- 01Activate Sifumim Shrine.
- 02Approach from the west or northwest rather than running straight into the centre.
- 03Speak to Rozel if available.
- 04Scout the rooftops and outer paths.
- 05Clear the main village groups.
- 06Search the shoreline, boats and village well.
- 07Return to the centre and confirm that no Monster Force remains.
- 08Begin the restoration project with Bolson and Rozel.
Route 2: Restoration preparation
- 01Gather Hylian Rice before starting.
- 02Cut and collect 15 ordinary logs.
- 03Keep an axe or heavy weapon available.
- 04Restore the inn and restaurant first if you want immediate practical benefits.
- 05Finish the remaining homes and Lucky Treasure Shop.
- 06Use the free stay, meal and treasure-game attempt after the project completes.
Route 3: Post-restoration coastal circuit
---
Route 3: Post-restoration coastal circuit: steps
- 01Start at the Goddess Statue on the beach.
- 02Check the restaurant and inn.
- 03Visit the Lucky Treasure Shop.
- 04Inspect the general store and docks.
- 05Gather seafood around the bay.
- 06Travel east to Palmorae Ruins.
- 07Continue offshore towards Eventide Island if prepared.
- 08Return to Lurelin for the resort project or Water Rally.
The village can appear empty even when it is not complete
The most important practical warning is that the liberation battle is multi-layered. Search below ground and around the water if the quest does not advance. The village well is particularly easy to overlook.
Restoration placement can be awkward
Some logs and palm-tree sections must be moved through narrow gaps or dropped into damaged buildings from above. If an object will not fit:
The treasure game is not a guaranteed profit
The Lucky Treasure Shop is a gambling activity. Use the free attempt after restoration if you want to try it safely, but avoid repeatedly wagering money if you are saving for armour, upgrades or travelling expenses.
The store may remain unavailable after the village is restored
Restoring the buildings does not automatically mean every possible shop or merchant is operating. Garini’s store reopening is tied to later conditions and a follow-up quest involving a boat. Treat the restoration project and the general-store reopening as separate progression events.
---
Lurelin Village continues its role from Breath of the Wild as a tropical fishing community built around a sheltered bay. It is one of the southernmost settlements in Hyrule and is notable for its strong maritime identity, palm-covered buildings and boat-like architecture.
The Tears of the Kingdom version adds a major narrative change: the village is not simply a peaceful optional settlement but a community displaced by an attack. Its residents scatter to places such as Lookout Landing and other settlements, allowing the player to encounter the crisis indirectly before reaching the village itself.
The restoration story also continues the rebuilding theme established by Tarrey Town and Hudson Construction in Breath of the Wild. Here, however, the player does not build an entirely new settlement. Instead, Link helps return an existing community to working order, with its fishing, hospitality and leisure activities restored one by one.
Lurelin has appeared in both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, and is also listed among the locations of Age of Calamity. Its associated Depths counterpart is the Abandoned Lurelin Mine, which is a separate underground location and should not be counted as part of the surface village.

Is Lurelin Village required to finish the main story?
No. It is optional, although its quests are among the most rewarding settlement activities in the game.
What is the closest fast-travel point?
Sifumim Shrine is the most useful shrine for reaching the village and beginning the liberation sequence.
Why can I not complete the monster battle?
Search the village well, lower spaces, rooftops, shoreline and waterborne positions. One enemy can remain hidden away from the main streets.
Does restoring Lurelin reopen every shop?
No. The restoration project repairs the principal village buildings, but the general store has its own progression requirements involving Garini and a boat.
What are the best rewards?
The strongest long-term rewards are the free inn stay, one free restaurant meal each day and one free Lucky Treasure Shop attempt. The village also becomes a useful source of seafood and a base for the Water Rally.
Is Palmorae Ruins part of Lurelin Village?
No. It is a separate named location east of the village on Palmorae Beach. It is nearby and makes sense as part of the same exploration trip, but it should not be included within the village’s boundaries.
