About this guide
Scope: Base game, including the Surface, the East Necluda Sky area and the corresponding East Necluda Depths. West Necluda, Kakariko Village, Dueling Peaks Stable and the Necluda Sea are treated as neighbouring areas rather than silently included. Status: Research-based guide. The available regional indexes disagree in a few boundary details and do not expose every minor map marker, so the directories below list verified entries rather than claiming absolute completeness.
Overview
East Necluda is the warmer, more coastal half of Necluda in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It contains two of Hyrule’s most useful settlements, Hateno Village and Lurelin Village, as well as farmland, beaches, jungle, mountain roads, caves, wells, the Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower and a large section of the Depths below the region.
It is easy to mistake East Necluda for “the Hateno area”. That is only its northern and central portion. The region extends south to Lurelin Village and the Necluda coast, east towards Cape Cales and the Lanayru border, and south-west into the jungle and beaches around Sarjon Woods, Mount Dunsel and Atun Valley. Its underground counterpart is also substantial, containing abandoned mines, groves, Lightroots and routes towards the Spirit Temple area.
East Necluda is particularly rewarding for players who want a mixture of settlement quests, exploration, caves, armour and story-related discoveries. Hateno offers an extensive social quest chain, Lurelin changes significantly after a monster-clearance mission, and the region’s caves hide several shrines and Bubbul Gems.
What counts as East Necluda?
The regional map listings place Hateno Village, Lurelin Village, Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower, the East Necluda caves and the Surface shrines listed below within East Necluda. The same listings place Kakariko Village, Dueling Peaks Stable, Popla Foothills and the Dueling Peaks area in West Necluda, so they should not be folded into this guide merely because they are nearby.
For practical exploration, East Necluda can be divided into these subareas:
Northern and central East Necluda
This includes Hateno Village, Hateno Pasture, Fort Hateno, Retsam Forest, Mount Lanayru’s southern approaches and the Lanayru Road caves.
Southern East Necluda
This includes Lurelin Village, Korne Beach, Atun Valley, Mount Dunsel, Sarjon Woods, Cape Cales and the coastal caves.
East Necluda Sky
This is the sky region above the south-eastern part of Necluda. Its best-known accessible island chain is the Necluda Sky Archipelago, reached conveniently from Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower. Kumamayn Shrine is located there and is opened through The Necluda Sky Crystal shrine quest.
East Necluda Depths
The Depths are not a single cave below Hateno. They form a broad underground region with separate map landmarks, mines, groves and Lightroots. The regional index lists places such as Abandoned Hateno Mine, Abandoned Lurelin Mine, Ginner Grove, Retsam Grove, Midla Grove, Ancient Observation Deck and several canyon mines.
The Necluda Sea Depths and areas labelled West Necluda Depths are better treated as neighbouring Depths regions, even where the transition is not obvious on the map.
---
East Necluda changes character as you travel south.
Around Hateno, the landscape is green, cultivated and hilly. Fields, pasture and woodland surround the village, while the coast and Lanayru-facing roads become more rugged. This is the most comfortable part of the region for early settlement exploration.
Farther south, the terrain becomes more tropical. Lurelin sits beside the sea, with beaches, palms, cliffs and small offshore islands. The village’s position makes it a natural base for coastal exploration, although it is not initially a safe settlement after the Upheaval.
The eastern side contains the Lanayru Road approaches and several caves whose entrances are easy to overlook. Jogou Shrine, for example, is hidden in Lanayru Road East Cave rather than standing in the open world.
The underground landscape mirrors the Surface in broad form. Mines occur beneath settlements and valleys, while groves occupy large wooded areas. Gloom, darkness and vertical chasms make Depths travel substantially more hazardous than Surface exploration.
---
First arrival from central Hyrule
The simplest early route is east from central Hyrule through the roads leading towards Fort Hateno and Hateno Village. You can also approach from West Necluda, although this means passing through the Dueling Peaks and nearby roads first.
A practical early order is
- 01Reach Hateno Village.
- 02Activate the village shrine and investigate the local wells.
- 03Visit the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab when the relevant Purah Pad progression allows it.
- 04Continue south-east towards Rabella Wetlands.
- 05Activate Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower.
- 06Use the tower for southern Surface travel and access to the East Necluda Sky islands.
- 07Continue south to Lurelin Village.
- 08Return later for caves, the coast and the Depths.
Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower
Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower is at approximately 2419, -2755, 0222. It is the region’s most useful aerial launch point and is particularly important for reaching the East Necluda Sky Archipelago.
The tower is surrounded by tall thorny vines. The immediate challenge is not a conventional enemy fight but reaching and entering the tower through the obstruction. Fire-based methods are useful, although rain can make burning the vines inconvenient. Once activated, the tower provides a high viewpoint over southern East Necluda and makes the coastal route much easier to understand.
Routes to Lurelin Village
From Hateno, travel south through the roads and wooded hills towards the coast. The region’s road network is less direct than the open terrain suggests, and cliffs often make a paraglider approach faster than following every bend.
From Rabella Wetlands, the tower provides a useful launch point towards the southern coast. Sifumim Shrine, north-west of Lurelin Village, can serve as a fast-travel point once activated. It is a Proving Grounds: Flow shrine and is located in the hills above the village.
Access to the East Necluda Sky
The Necluda Sky Archipelago can be reached by gliding east from Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower. Kumamayn Shrine is at approximately 2856, -2857, 1212, but it is initially concealed until the associated crystal quest is completed. The quest involves following the crystal’s beam and defeating a Flux Construct III.
Bring stamina restoration, cold protection if travelling higher than expected and enough Zonai devices for emergency platforms. Do not assume every island can be reached by a single glide from the tower. Some islands are best approached by using launchers, springs, fans or a reusable flying vehicle.

Hateno Village
Hateno Village is the principal northern settlement of East Necluda, positioned at approximately 3266, -2136, 0100. It contains a general store, the Kochi Dye Shop, houses, farms, Hateno School, Hateno Pasture and several wells.
Hateno is also one of the most quest-dense settlements in the game. Its story content centres on the mayoral dispute between Reede and Cece, local relationships, farming, school life and Zelda’s former residence.
The full Hateno quest arc is best completed over several visits because some activities become available only after other village events have advanced.
Hateno Village residents and associated characters
The following are verified or strongly associated with Hateno’s quest and service network. This is a character directory, not a claim that every named villager in every dialogue source has been independently indexed.
The Mayoral Election chain is the settlement’s main social storyline. Cece’s Secret, for example, begins by speaking with Sophie outside Ventest Clothing and rewards ten Ironshrooms.
Hateno wells
The regional well listings give the four standard Hateno wells and Zelda’s Secret Well separate map entries.
Hateno Village residents and associated characters
Hateno Village residents and associated characters: Important Hateno activities include
Lurelin Village
Lurelin Village lies on the southern coast at approximately 3035, -3463, 0000. It is a coastal settlement rather than a simple starting town: its available services and appearance depend heavily on whether Link has dealt with the monsters occupying it.
Before restoration
Lurelin is initially threatened by pirate monsters. The village is not functioning normally, and several buildings and services are unavailable or damaged. The relevant objective is to clear the settlement, generally through the Lurelin Village Restoration Project sequence and associated monster-control activities.
After restoration
Once the village has been restored, Lurelin becomes a valuable southern base. The rebuilt facilities include an inn and other usable buildings. The Lurelin Village Inn provides ordinary bed services, while its salt spa can grant additional hearts and stamina in exchange for Rock Salt. The inn guide records a 20-rupee bed cost before full rebuilding and free lodging afterwards.
The village Goddess Statue is at approximately 2921, -3444, 0000. As elsewhere, it exchanges four Lights of Blessing for a heart container or stamina vessel.
Lurelin-related characters and activities
Verified quest and activity names associated with the area include:
The regional quest index places A Bottled Cry for Help on Hateno Beach and lists the Lurelin restoration and resort activities among East Necluda’s side content.

Surface Shrine directory
These seven shrines and their map positions are listed by the regional shrine guide.
Jogou Shrine
Jogou Shrine is a good example of East Necluda’s layered design. It is inside Lanayru Road East Cave, reached by travelling west from Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower towards Lanayru Road East Gate, then entering the cave beneath the ruins. The cave route includes water and breakable rocks.
Sifumim Shrine
Sifumim Shrine is north-west of Lurelin Village and uses a Proving Grounds challenge built around water and movement. Treat it as a combat shrine rather than a normal puzzle room. Equipment is removed at the entrance, so use the supplied weapons, environmental positioning and Fuse combinations carefully.
Surface Shrine directory
| Shrine | Type or associated location |
|---|---|
| Mayahisik Shrine | Rauru’s Blessing |
| Zanmik Shrine | Scoop It Out |
| Jogou Shrine | Rauru’s Blessing, inside Lanayru Road East Cave |
| Anedamimik Shrine | A Retraced Path |
| Utojis Shrine | Rauru’s Blessing |
| Sifumim Shrine | Proving Grounds: Flow |
| Bamitok Shrine | Rauru’s Blessing |
Kumamayn Shrine and The Necluda Sky Crystal
Kumamayn Shrine is a Rauru’s Blessing shrine in the East Necluda Sky region. It does not simply appear as an ordinary shrine target. Link must first examine the shrine and follow the green crystal beam through the associated shrine quest.
The shrine guide confirms the location, the Rauru’s Blessing classification and the Flux Construct III objective.
A practical route is
- 01Launch from Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower.
- 02Glide east to the island with Zonai springs.
- 03Examine Kumamayn Shrine.
- 04Follow the beam to the crystal.
- 05Defeat the Flux Construct III guarding or obstructing the route.
- 06Carry the crystal back to the shrine.
- 07Enter the revealed shrine for its chest and Light of Blessing.
Sage’s Will
The East Necluda Sky region contains Sage’s Will chests. One listed chest is at approximately 2562, -3611, 0794, reached from Kumamayn Shrine towards a round island and protected by a King Gleeok. Another listed East Necluda Sky chest is at approximately 4652, -3828, 1065, associated with a King Gleeok encounter.
These are late-game or preparation-heavy objectives. Stock up on:

East Necluda cave directory
The regional points-of-interest listing identifies the following Surface caves:
These caves are not interchangeable. Some contain shrines, some contain Bubbulfrogs, some connect to underground routes and others are mainly exploration spaces with ore, enemies and treasure.
Priority caves
The cave list gives approximate entrance coordinates and separately records Bubbulfrog positions for several caves.
Priority caves
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Lanayru Road East Cave | contains Jogou Shrine and is one of the region’s most useful shrine-cave routes. |
| Retsam Forest Cave | close to Hateno’s wooded surroundings and associated with a Bubbulfrog. |
| Mount Dunsel Cave | useful when sweeping the southern mountain and coast routes. |
| Cape Cales Cliffbase Cave | explores the coast from below and is easy to miss if travelling only along the upper cliffs. |
| Tobio’s Hollow Cave | an unusual named cave near the southern-eastern side of the region. |
Well directory
The wells are useful both for treasure and for completing regional exploration checklists. Zelda’s Secret Well is especially notable because it connects to Zelda-associated story material and environmental clues. The well directories place the Lurelin Village Well at approximately 2938, -3377, 0012 and the Hateno wells around the village.
---
The Depths beneath East Necluda are a major separate exploration layer. They should not be reduced to a list of underground versions of Surface landmarks.
Major Depths directory
Mines and pits
The regional guide specifically lists the Abandoned Hateno Mine, Dunsel Canyon Mine, Cresia Pit Mine, Canyon of Awakening Mine and Ginner Grove with map positions.
Groves and special landmarks
Some directory sources classify certain southern or border landmarks differently. The Zelda Wiki regional index, for example, includes Spirit Temple under East Necluda Depths, while other map guides group nearby underground entries according to broader Depths map divisions. Treat the Spirit Temple area as a connected late-game destination rather than assuming every approach belongs to the same Surface region.
Lightroots
The regional Depths listings identify these Lightroots among the map’s principal fast-travel and illumination points.
Groves and special landmarks
Lightroots
Recommended Depths method
The Depths are especially dangerous around gloom pools, enemy camps and areas where the map remains dark. A glowing vehicle or hoverbike can save considerable time, but narrow mines and broken terrain often still require climbing or walking.
---
Recommended Depths method: steps
- 01Enter through a chasm that gives you a safe route towards a Lightroot.
- 02Carry Brightbloom Seeds and gloom-resistant or gloom-healing food.
- 03Activate Lightroots before committing to long mine routes.
- 04Use the Surface map to predict broad locations of mines and groves, but do not expect a direct vertical entrance at every matching landmark.
- 05Mark abandoned mines containing Forge Constructs so you can return for Zonaite-related services and weapon-farming routes.
- 06Leave the Spirit Temple approach until you are ready for major story progression and difficult Construct encounters.
Regional quest directory
Wider regional activity
The regional quest listing records the main East Necluda side quests and side adventures, including the Hateno and Lurelin entries.
Hateno and northern East Necluda
Lurelin and the southern coast
Wider regional activity
Bring Peace to Necluda
This is part of the Monster-Control-Crew sequence. It becomes available through the wider chain after completing Bring Peace to Hyrule Field and speaking with Hoz after the battle. The East Necluda mission is located north-east of Blatchery Plain, at approximately 2205, -1791, 0016.
It is worth completing if you are already travelling through the north-eastern roads, but it is not the same as the Lurelin pirate-clearance sequence. The two activities both involve monster fighting, yet they belong to different quest chains and should not be treated as one mission.
A New Champion’s Tunic
This quest begins by examining Zelda’s Diary in Hateno. It rewards the Champion’s Leathers and is one of the region’s most important equipment discoveries. The regional quest listing places it in Hateno Village.
Restoration and progression changes
Several East Necluda locations change after quest progression:
Because some rewards and services are tied to quest stages, complete village dialogue before assuming a building is permanently inactive.
---
Common dangers
East Necluda’s Surface is generally safer than the Depths, but enemies become more numerous around roads, caves and coastal ruins. Expect ordinary Bokoblins, Lizalfos and Moblins, with stronger variants appearing as the world scales with progression.
Practical preparation
---
Settlement-first route
This route gives the strongest narrative introduction and avoids treating Lurelin as an isolated combat objective.
Settlement-first route: steps
- 01Enter East Necluda from the north-west.
- 02Activate Hateno Village’s shrine.
- 03Visit the dye shop, school, pasture and all four wells.
- 04Begin the Hateno side-adventure chain.
- 05Search Zelda’s Secret Well and examine Zelda-related documents.
- 06Travel south-east to Rabella Wetlands.
- 07Activate the Skyview Tower.
- 08Return to Hateno if the Ancient Tech Lab has become available.
- 09Continue south to Lurelin.
Completionist Surface sweep
Use fast travel to divide the region into three loops:
Lurelin and eastern coast loop
The exact order can vary according to stamina, weather and quest progression.
Hateno loop
Rabella and central coast loop
Lurelin and eastern coast loop
Sky and Depths route
---
Sky and Depths route: steps
- 01Activate Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower.
- 02Complete The Necluda Sky Crystal when equipped for a Flux Construct III.
- 03Collect nearby Sage’s Will chests only after preparing for King Gleeok fights.
- 04Enter the Depths through an accessible chasm.
- 05Prioritise Sijotu, Mimufis, Kotimab, Kimimadena, Kimnaz and Kisihayam Lightroots.
- 06Visit Abandoned Hateno Mine and Abandoned Lurelin Mine.
- 07Sweep the canyon mines and groves.
- 08Leave the Spirit Temple route for a later story-focused expedition.
Depths
---
Is Kakariko Village part of East Necluda?
No. The regional listings place Kakariko Village in West Necluda. It is close enough to confuse the boundary, but it should be documented separately.
Is Lurelin Village part of East Necluda?
Yes. It is listed as an East Necluda settlement and is one of the region’s defining locations.
What is the best Skyview Tower for the East Necluda sky islands?
Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower is the practical choice. The Kumamayn Shrine guide specifically recommends gliding east from it to the Necluda Sky Archipelago.
Why is Jogou Shrine difficult to find?
It is inside Lanayru Road East Cave rather than in the open world. The cave entrance lies beneath the ruins near Lanayru Road East Gate.
Does Lurelin have an inn?
Yes, but its availability is tied to the village restoration process. After restoration, the Lurelin Village Inn offers beds and a salt spa service.
Is the East Necluda Depths the same thing as the entire Necluda underground region?
No. East Necluda Depths is one regional section. Necluda Sea Depths and West Necluda Depths are listed separately in regional map indexes.
