Key takeaways
- Eldin is a province, not merely Goron City or Death Mountain A complete visit should include Eldin Canyon, Eldin Mountains, the sky archipelagos and the Depths.
- The regional phenomenon is centred on Goron City and the Fire Temple YunoboCo, Yunobo and the altered behaviour of Gorons are central to the story.
- Flame protection is essential on the hottest routes Ordinary fire resistance is not the same as heat resistance, and the interior of Death Mountain requires appropriate protection.
- Caves are major routes, not optional scenery Death Mountain’s tunnels contain shrines, treasure, enemies, minecart tracks, crystals and shortcuts.
- The Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower is the main surface navigation tool Activate it early if you intend to survey the province from above.
- The Depths mirror the Surface imperfectly Lightroots, abandoned mines and coliseums reward players who deliberately explore beneath the volcanic region rather than treating it as a separate afterthought.
About this guide
Scope: Base game, including Eldin’s Surface, Sky and Depths layers. This guide treats Eldin as the wider province rather than only the volcanic area around Goron City. It includes Death Mountain, Eldin Canyon, Eldin Mountains, the Eldin sky regions and the corresponding Depths areas. Neighbouring areas such as Akkala and Lanayru are excluded unless they provide a route into Eldin. Spoiler warning: This guide discusses the Eldin regional phenomenon, Yunobo, the Fire Temple, the Depths, shrine quests and post-story exploration.
Overview
Eldin is one of Hyrule’s most distinctive provinces in Tears of the Kingdom. Its familiar volcanic landscape remains centred on Death Mountain and Goron City, but the Upheaval has changed the region substantially. Volcanic ash hangs over the surface, caves and tunnels connect previously separate landmarks, and parts of Death Mountain can be explored from within rather than simply climbed from outside.
The province is also important across all three map layers. On the Surface, Eldin contains Goron City, YunoboCo facilities, Foothill Stable, Death Mountain, numerous caves and the Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower. Above it are the Eldin Sky Archipelago and South Eldin Sky Archipelago. Below are the Abandoned Eldin Mine, the Scorching Coliseum and several Lightroots that illuminate the Eldin Depths.
Eldin is not just a single volcanic route. It is a collection of connected subregions with different hazards, activities and progression states. Goron City and the Fire Temple form the central story route, while Eldin Canyon is the main approach from Hyrule Field, Eldin Mountains offer a cooler and more open route around the province’s edges, and the Depths provide alternate approaches, minecart tracks and Zonai-related exploration.
The recognised Eldin hierarchy used by location indexes separates the province into Eldin, Eldin Sky and Eldin Depths, with the principal regions of Death Mountain, Eldin Canyon, Eldin Mountains, Death Mountain Sky, Eldin Canyon Sky, Eldin Mountains Sky, Death Mountain Depths, Eldin Canyon Depths and Eldin Mountains Depths.
Eldin Canyon
Eldin Canyon is the southern and western approach to the province. It forms the most natural connection between Hyrule Field, the Woodland Stable area and Goron territory. The canyon contains the Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower, Foothill Stable, several lakes and rivers, woodland and rocky terrain, and the routes leading towards Death Mountain.
The region is broader than the immediate area around the tower. It includes Goron City, YunoboCo HQ, the Southern Mine, Bedrock Bistro, the Goronbi waterways, Death Mountain’s western and eastern approaches, and numerous caves. Guides commonly classify Goron City, YunoboCo HQ, Death Mountain and both Foothill and Woodland Stables as part of the broader Eldin Canyon exploration area, although Woodland Stable sits near the western transition and should not be confused with a Goron settlement.
Important Eldin Canyon locations
Death Mountain
Death Mountain is Eldin’s volcanic centre. It is not simply a mountain peak, but a collection of slopes, lava channels, tunnels, caves, minecart routes and the enormous volcanic crater known as Death Caldera.
The story route approaches the mountain through Goron City and YunoboCo. After the regional phenomenon is addressed, the mountain remains useful for mining, shrine quests, armour materials, caves and routes into the Depths. The terrain changes noticeably depending on whether Link is travelling on the outer slopes, entering a cave or moving through the deeper tunnels around the Fire Temple.
Named Death Mountain locations
Eldin Mountains
Eldin Mountains occupy the cooler, more elevated and more open parts of the province. They are important for players approaching from the north or west, particularly when they want to avoid following the main road directly into Goron territory.
The mountains contain high ridges, isolated ponds, caves, monster dens and access points to the sky. They also connect Eldin to the edges of Akkala and the wider northern Hyrule landscape. The Eldin Great Skeleton is one of the more recognisable landmarks in this wider area.
Named Eldin Mountains locations
The exact transition between Eldin Canyon and Eldin Mountains can feel gradual in play. For reference purposes, it is best to follow the game’s named map regions and the established Eldin location hierarchy rather than treating every visible ridge as a separate province.
---
Eldin’s sky territory is divided into the Eldin Sky Archipelago, South Eldin Sky Archipelago and smaller map sectors associated with Eldin Canyon, Eldin Mountains and Death Mountain. The sky layer provides aerial approaches to the volcano, Zonai devices, floating islands and the Kadaunar Shrine.
Named Eldin Mountains locations
Eldin Sky Archipelago
The Eldin Sky Archipelago lies above the north-western part of the province. Its islands are useful as launch points for reaching otherwise awkward mountain ledges and as locations for Zonai devices, treasure and aerial traversal challenges.
The most important confirmed shrine in the Eldin sky grouping is:
Kadaunar Shrine is associated with the Eldin Canyon sky region and is one of Eldin’s sky-layer fast-travel points.
Eldin Sky Archipelago
South Eldin Sky Archipelago
The South Eldin Sky Archipelago provides a higher route above the southern approaches. It is more closely connected to the canyon and foothill side of Eldin than to the Fire Temple itself. Players should not assume that all southern sky islands count as part of the Surface’s Eldin Canyon region, since the sky map uses its own regional divisions.
Practical sky route
---
Eldin’s Depths are divided into Death Mountain Depths, Eldin Canyon Depths and Eldin Mountains Depths. The most prominent named location is the Abandoned Eldin Mine, while the Scorching Coliseum provides a combat challenge.
The Depths are especially valuable in Eldin because they offer routes that bypass difficult Surface terrain. Mine shafts, abandoned structures and chasms allow Link to approach the volcanic region from below. However, the area is not safe simply because it is underground. Gloom, lava, darkness and powerful enemies remain serious threats.
Practical sky route
- 01Activate Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower.
- 02Use the tower launch to survey the nearby islands and mountain ridges.
- 03Glide towards visible sky islands while carrying stamina-restoring food.
- 04Mark caves, shrine lights and chasms visible from above.
- 05Return to the Surface before attempting long glides over the hottest parts of Death Mountain unless Link already has a reliable heat-protection setup.
Main Depths locations
The Eldin category lists ten Lightroots and one named chasm, alongside the Abandoned Eldin Mine and Scorching Coliseum.
Main Depths locations
Using the Surface to navigate the Depths
A reliable method is to compare the Surface and Depths maps:
Lightroots are particularly useful in Eldin because darkness hides lava channels, vertical drops and enemy camps. Carry Brightbloom Seeds and use arrows to illuminate the route ahead before committing to a glide or vehicle path.

From Lookout Landing and Hyrule Field
The most straightforward route is north-east from Lookout Landing through the central Hyrule roads, then towards Woodland Stable and Eldin Canyon. This route introduces the player to the region gradually and provides access to stable services before the terrain becomes more hazardous.
A practical first journey is
- 01Travel towards Woodland Stable.
- 02Continue east or north-east towards Eldin Canyon.
- 03Activate the Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower.
- 04Visit Foothill Stable.
- 05Reach Goron City through the main canyon roads.
- 06Begin the regional phenomenon quest if ready.
- 07Return later to explore the mountain caves and northern routes.
From Akkala
Eldin’s north-eastern side connects naturally with Akkala and the northern highlands. This approach can be useful for players coming from Tarrey Town, Death Mountain’s northern slopes or the Akkala Highlands. It may also lead to Eldin Mountains landmarks before the player visits Goron City.
From the sky
Sky islands allow Link to bypass several surface barriers. The Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower is the best starting point for this style of travel. Sky routes are particularly useful for reaching cliffs, shrine entrances and the upper sides of volcanic formations.
Through the Depths
The Depths offer an alternative route to the volcanic interior. This is not normally the most comfortable first visit, but it becomes valuable when looking for Zonaite, Forge Constructs, Lightroots and mine-related rewards.
---
Gorons
Gorons are Eldin’s principal population. Goron City is their largest settlement and remains the centre of local commerce, administration and regional storytelling.
During the Eldin regional phenomenon, many Gorons are affected by the influence of marbled rock roast. Their altered behaviour changes the atmosphere of Goron City and creates the main social crisis of the region.
Yunobo and YunoboCo
Yunobo is Eldin’s principal story character and the companion associated with the Fire Temple sequence. YunoboCo operates mining and transport facilities throughout the province, including YunoboCo HQ and the Southern Mine.
Yunobo’s ability is also an important traversal tool during the regional quest. It can break obstacles, destroy certain barriers and provide a rolling attack while riding minecart tracks.
Hudson Construction and travelling workers
Hudson Construction workers and sign-carriers appear in Eldin as they do elsewhere in Hyrule. Their activities are separate from YunoboCo’s mining operation. Do not treat every construction site or work platform as a YunoboCo facility.
Ordinary NPCs
Goron City contains residents, merchants, workers and story-associated Gorons. Other settlements and facilities contain stable staff, travelling merchants, researchers and miners. Their availability and dialogue can change after the regional phenomenon is resolved.
A complete named-character directory requires checking each individual settlement and quest page separately. The location category confirms the main Eldin settlements and facilities, but it is not itself a complete NPC census.

Goron Gusto Shop
Goron Gusto Shop is a named business in Goron City. It is a functional shop rather than merely a decorative storefront. Its stock and availability should be checked directly during the player’s visit, particularly before beginning a long mountain expedition.
Goron Gusto Shop
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Type | Shop |
| Location | Goron City |
| Use | Purchases and local Goron supplies |
| Status | Functional named business |
Rollin’ Inn
Rollin’ Inn is Goron City’s inn. It provides the normal rest function associated with an inn and is useful for restoring Link before entering hot caves or beginning the regional quest.
Ripped and Shredded
Ripped and Shredded is a named Goron City business associated with local food and dining. It should be distinguished from ordinary decorative stalls or unnamed cooking points.
Bedrock Bistro
Bedrock Bistro is a named food establishment outside the central city. It is an important landmark on the routes near Goronbi Lake and the northern canyon approaches.
Bedrock Bistro
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Type | Bistro |
| Location | Eldin Canyon |
| Use | Food and rest-related local service |
| Status | Functional named business |
Foothill Stable
Foothill Stable is one of Eldin’s most useful practical facilities. It provides stable services, a bed, horse registration-related functions and access to stable activities. It also acts as a safe waypoint before the player enters the most dangerous volcanic routes.
Named facilities directory
These entries are listed separately in the Eldin location category under settlements and named facilities.
---
The following names are confirmed Eldin locations, including natural landmarks, ruins, businesses, transport sites and background locations:
The major category source also separates caves, wells, chasms, sky areas, Surface locations, settlements and Depths locations. This separation matters because an identically named facility and cave entrance are not interchangeable map entries.

Surface shrines
Several are ordinary shrine challenges, while others are Rauru’s Blessing shrines unlocked by reaching a cave, transporting a crystal or completing an external challenge. For example, shrine references identify Momosik Shrine with the Death Caldera Crystal Shrine Quest, and Moshapin Shrine with a crystal quest in Lake Intenoch Cave.

Useful shrine route
---
For an efficient first pass
- 01Activate Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower.
- 02Complete nearby surface shrines around the canyon.
- 03Visit Goron City and begin the regional story.
- 04Search the western and eastern Death Mountain tunnels.
- 05Complete the crystal-related shrine quests after gaining access to the relevant caves.
- 06Use the Fire Temple route to reach otherwise difficult volcanic locations.
- 07Return after the regional quest for remaining shrine caves and collectibles.
Yunobo of Goron City
The Eldin regional phenomenon begins in and around Goron City. Link investigates the behaviour of the Gorons, follows the situation surrounding Yunobo and YunoboCo, and eventually travels towards the Fire Temple.
The story changes access to parts of the region and grants Yunobo as a companion. His ability is central to the minecart sections and to breaking through obstacles along the route.
Fire Temple
The Fire Temple is Eldin’s main dungeon. It is reached through the regional story and is built around minecart travel, rail switching, vertical movement and Yunobo’s charge ability.
The temple contains multiple locks and routes rather than a single linear corridor. If a track appears to lead nowhere, inspect nearby switches, minecart junctions and vertical routes. Yunobo’s charge can be used both as an attack and as a transport tool.
Post-temple exploration
After the regional phenomenon is resolved, Eldin becomes more useful for free exploration. Goron City’s situation improves, Yunobo’s role changes, and previously story-blocked activities can be approached without the same narrative pressure.
---
Extreme heat and lava
Eldin uses several heat conditions. The volcanic surface and ordinary hot caves may require one level of flame protection, while the deeper Death Mountain and Fire Temple routes require stronger protection. Heat-resistant armour and appropriate elixirs are safer than relying on food alone.
The distinction is especially important around Death Mountain.
Gloom
The Depths and certain caves contain gloom. Gloom damage temporarily reduces Link’s maximum hearts until he reaches a safe location, uses suitable food or activates a Lightroot. Avoid stepping through large gloom patches when a bridge, vehicle or side route is available.
Lava and falling hazards
Lava may appear as a Surface obstacle, cave barrier or temple hazard. Falling rocks and unstable paths can also damage Link or destroy vehicles. Use Ultrahand to build stable platforms and keep spare materials available.
Monsters
Eldin’s caves and mines contain standard cave enemies, Fire Lizalfos, Horriblins, Octoroks and stronger regional variants. The Depths add gloom-afflicted enemies and combat arenas. Enemy encounters may be fixed at named locations or randomised through ordinary overworld respawns, so a single clear is not necessarily permanent.
