Key takeaways
- Kisomom Lightroot is in the Eldin Canyon Depths, not in the neighbouring Death Mountain Depths.
- Its approximate in-game coordinates are 2961, 2758, -0963.
- The Lightroot corresponds to Momosik Shrine on the surface.
- It sits between lava-filled areas around the underground Death Mountain region, so a straight-line route is not always possible.
- An Igneo Talus is located nearby, to the south-west of the Lightroot.
- No shop, resident, quest giver or unique building is verified as belonging to the Lightroot itself.
Note
Base game guide. This article covers Kisomom Lightroot itself and its immediate navigational connections in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It does not treat the whole Eldin Canyon Depths, Death Mountain Depths or the surface area around Momosik Shrine as part of Kisomom Lightroot.
Overview
Kisomom Lightroot is a Lightroot in the Eldin Canyon Depths, positioned beneath the eastern side of Death Mountain’s wider region. It is a compact but useful landmark in an awkward stretch of the Depths, where lava-filled cavities, high rock walls and the surrounding Death Mountain underground area can make direct travel difficult.
Activating Kisomom Lightroot reveals part of the Depths map, creates a fast-travel point and restores Link’s maximum hearts damaged by Gloom while he stands beneath its light. Its corresponding surface shrine is Momosik Shrine, whose name is the reverse spelling of “Kisomom”. Nintendo also describes the general Lightroot-and-Shrine relationship as a practical way to locate one when the other has already been found.
Location and boundaries
Kisomom Lightroot belongs to the Eldin Canyon Depths, a large northeastern Depths region beneath Eldin Canyon and around the Death Mountain area. The Eldin Canyon Depths contains several Lightroots, the Fire Temple and major sites such as the Abandoned Eldin Mine and Scorching Coliseum. Death Mountain Depths is treated as a separate neighbouring region that is enclosed by the Eldin Canyon Depths rather than being a subarea of Kisomom Lightroot.
The Lightroot itself is a single landmark rather than a settlement or broad explorable district. Its immediate surroundings are defined by underground volcanic geography. It lies between lava lakes or lava-filled depressions arranged around the larger underground cavity beneath Death Mountain. The eastern side can be inconvenient to reach because the terrain rises sharply and the lava areas interrupt otherwise direct routes.
Verified named places within the relevant scope
The following names are associated with Kisomom Lightroot or its direct connection. They should not be treated as buildings or subareas physically contained inside the Lightroot.
The last three are nearby or connected reference points rather than parts of Kisomom Lightroot itself. The surface counterpart is Momosik Shrine, located near the Death Mountain East Tunnel. Some map guides also describe Kisomom Lightroot as being west of Wellspring of Power.

How to reach Kisomom Lightroot
From the surface
Kisomom Lightroot is not directly below a surface chasm that drops neatly onto the location. The surrounding Eldin underground region has difficult access, and the most practical approach often involves entering the Depths elsewhere, illuminating nearby Lightroots, then travelling across the underground terrain.
The surface shrine is particularly useful as a map reference. Lightroots and Shrines of Light normally occupy corresponding positions, and their names are anagrams in reverse order. Thus Momosik becomes Kisomom when reversed.
From nearby Depths Lightroots
The Eldin Canyon Depths route network includes several useful neighbouring Lightroots:
These are regional connections, not subareas of Kisomom Lightroot. Their locations are useful when planning an illuminated route through the wider Eldin Canyon Depths.
From the surface: A useful method is
- 01Enter the Depths through a suitable Eldin or nearby chasm.
- 02Activate nearby Lightroots before attempting the final approach.
- 03Use the Depths map to identify the Kisomom icon beneath the approximate position of Momosik Shrine.
- 04Approach from the west or south-west where possible.
- 05Avoid assuming that the surface road or shrine entrance will lead directly to the underground Lightroot.
What Kisomom Lightroot does
Like other Lightroots, Kisomom has four important functions.
Illuminates the surrounding Depths
Interact with the root to activate it. The nearby underground area becomes visible, and the corresponding portion of the Depths map is revealed. The illumination is especially valuable here because the surrounding terrain includes large dark cavities and volcanic obstacles.
Creates a fast-travel point
Once activated, Kisomom Lightroot can be selected from the map as a travel destination. This makes it a convenient return point for exploring the eastern Eldin Canyon Depths, visiting nearby mines and coliseums, or approaching the underground areas around Death Mountain.
Helps recover from Gloom
Standing under an activated Lightroot restores Link’s maximum hearts damaged by Gloom. It does not replace ordinary healing for missing hearts, but it removes the temporary reduction caused by Gloom exposure. Nintendo’s guidance specifically identifies activated Lightroots as a way to recover from Gloom-damaged hearts without returning to the surface.
Helps locate Momosik Shrine
The relationship works in both directions. If Kisomom Lightroot is activated but Momosik Shrine has not been completed, check the surface map directly above the Lightroot’s approximate position. Conversely, finding Momosik Shrine gives a strong indication of where Kisomom Lightroot is located underground.
Nearby enemies and hazards
Igneo Talus
An Igneo Talus is reported close to Kisomom Lightroot, to the south-west or west-south-west. It is a separate nearby encounter, not a boss belonging to the Lightroot. The Talus may obstruct a route depending on the direction from which Link approaches.
If you do not want to fight it, activate Kisomom Lightroot quickly and move around the edge of the arena. The root’s light makes it easier to judge the terrain and identify a route away from the encounter.
The exact rewards from a Talus can vary according to the monster’s drops and the equipment obtained from the surrounding area. No unique Kisomom-specific reward is verified.
Lava and volcanic terrain
The main environmental danger is not a special Lightroot trap but the surrounding Eldin geology. Lava lakes and narrow rock shelves can force Link to take a longer route. Fire-resistant preparation is useful when travelling through the Eldin Depths, particularly if the route passes close to lava or other sources of extreme heat.
The exact level of Flame Guard needed depends on the route and the heat source. One location guide recommends Tier 1 Flame Guard for the area, but the safest approach is to check Link’s temperature status before committing to a lava-side path.
Igneo Talus: If you choose to fight
- 01Prepare fire-resistant equipment or elixirs if the surrounding conditions require them.
- 02Use a water- or ice-based attack to cool the Talus’s hot body.
- 03Climb or ascend onto the cooled Talus.
- 04Attack the ore deposit on its body.
- 05Retreat when it begins throwing its arms or creating dangerous heat-based attacks.
Recommended exploration route
For a first visit, the following order is efficient:
Recommended exploration route: steps
- 01Enter the Eldin Depths with fire protection. Do not rely on the Lightroot to make the route safe before it is activated.
Recommended exploration route: steps
- 01Illuminate a nearby regional Lightroot first. This gives enough map visibility to recognise the lava cavities and avoid wandering into a dead end.
Recommended exploration route: steps
- 01Approach Kisomom from the west or south-west. The surrounding terrain can make the eastern approach less convenient.
Recommended exploration route: steps
- 01Activate Kisomom immediately. This reveals the local map, opens a fast-travel point and removes any Gloom damage affecting Link’s maximum hearts.
Recommended exploration route: steps
- 01Check for the Igneo Talus. If it is blocking the route, either circle around it or prepare a water- or ice-based attack.
Recommended exploration route: steps
- 01Use the root as a staging point. From here, continue towards the nearby Eldin Depths landmarks, or return to the surface and investigate Momosik Shrine.
Collectibles, missions and services
No unique collectible, shop, resident, stable, settlement, quest giver or mission is verified as being located at Kisomom Lightroot itself.
This distinction matters because the surrounding Eldin Canyon Depths contains many named places and activities, but they should not automatically be listed as part of Kisomom. The Lightroot is primarily a navigation and recovery facility. Its fixed rewards are the map reveal, travel access and Gloom recovery that come with activating any Lightroot.
There is also no verified Kisomom-specific treasure chest or one-time quest reward in the supplied location references. Nearby enemies may drop ordinary materials, and the wider region contains independent points of interest, but those are not confirmed contents of the Lightroot.
Progression and missability
Kisomom Lightroot is available according to the normal rules for Depths exploration. It is not tied to a particular main quest, temple completion or story state in the available evidence.
It can be activated before or after completing the Fire Temple, provided Link can reach it. No verified missable trigger is associated with the Lightroot. Its map icon remains available for activation until the player reaches it.
Activating all Lightroots across the Depths contributes to the overall Lightroot completion objective. Once every Lightroot has been activated, Link receives the Dispelling Darkness Medal, which functions as a completion memento rather than a major gameplay upgrade.
