Key takeaways
- Momosik Shrine is on the eastern side of Death Caldera, rather than near Goron City or the main western approach to Death Mountain.
- Examining the shrine begins The Death Caldera Crystal, which sends a green beam towards the crystal’s location.
- The crystal is inside Death Mountain East Tunnel, west or north-west of the shrine depending on the route used.
- The tunnel contains extreme heat, blue breakable rock, mine-cart rails, a Bubbulfrog and an Igneo Talus.
- The shrine interior is a Rauru’s Blessing chamber with one chest containing a Big Battery and a Light of Blessing at the altar.
- After completion, the shrine becomes a useful fast-travel point for eastern Death Mountain and the surrounding cave and rail network.

Overview
Momosik Shrine is a small but easily missed Shrine of Light on the eastern side of Death Mountain. Unlike a conventional shrine, it contains no internal puzzle or combat trial. Its challenge takes place outside, in the nearby Death Mountain East Tunnel, where Link must defeat an Igneo Talus carrying the shrine crystal and transport that crystal back to the shrine.
The shrine is part of the wider Death Caldera area of Eldin Canyon. Death Mountain East Tunnel is not the shrine itself, but it is the essential connected subarea for completing the shrine quest. The surrounding Death Mountain railway, lava terrain and cave systems form the practical approach network, while Kisomom Lightroot marks the shrine’s corresponding position in the Depths.
Location and boundaries
Momosik Shrine stands in the Death Caldera area of Eldin Canyon, on the eastern side of the volcanic mountain. It is separate from the larger settlements and facilities around Goron City, YunoboCo headquarters and the Death Mountain foothills. The shrine’s immediate setting is open volcanic terrain associated with the circular railway and the eastern slopes of Death Mountain.
For this guide, the shrine’s practical area includes three connected parts:
The wider Eldin Canyon region contains many other locations, including Goron City, Goronbi River, Lake Darman, Death Mountain’s western tunnels and several other shrines. Those places are neighbouring connections rather than subdivisions of Momosik Shrine and are not included as part of the shrine’s local interior. The broader Eldin Canyon directory identifies Momosik Shrine, Death Caldera and Death Mountain East Tunnel as distinct named entries.
Nearby but separate places
The nearby entries above are useful for navigation, but they should not be treated as internal subareas of Momosik Shrine.

Location and boundaries: steps
- 01Momosik Shrine itself, the outdoor shrine structure and its short interior.
- 02Death Mountain East Tunnel, the cave containing the crystal and Igneo Talus.
- 03The immediate eastern Death Caldera approach, including the exposed terrain and mine-cart route used to reach the cave.

Reaching Momosik Shrine
From the Eldin Canyon surface
The shrine is most easily reached by travelling around the eastern side of Death Mountain. The local terrain is hot, steep and broken by lava channels, so a paraglider, climbing equipment, heat protection and a few spare stamina-restoring meals are useful.
If the shrine has not yet been activated, it appears as an inactive shrine structure. Examining it begins The Death Caldera Crystal and reveals a green beam pointing towards the crystal. The beam leads towards Death Mountain East Tunnel rather than directly to an object visible on the surface.
Suggested approach
The tunnel entrance lies to the west of the shrine, at roughly 2768 to 2774, 2778 to 2786, 0522 to 0523. The exact map position varies slightly according to whether the reference marks the cave entrance, the tunnel’s approach or the point at which the blue sediment is first encountered.
Heat protection
Death Mountain East Tunnel contains lava and an extreme-heat environment. Link needs an appropriate level of Flame Guard protection, supplied by Flamebreaker equipment or a suitable fireproof elixir. Ordinary cold-weather protection does not help here.
---
Spoiler warning: The following section describes the shrine quest, cave route and required boss encounter.
The shrine quest is not a puzzle inside Momosik Shrine. Instead, the inactive shrine acts as the starting point for a crystal-retrieval mission. Once Link examines the shrine, the crystal’s green beam points to Death Mountain East Tunnel. The crystal is attached to an Igneo Talus deep inside the cave.
Suggested approach
- 01Travel to the eastern side of Death Mountain and locate the inactive Momosik Shrine.
- 02Examine the shrine to begin The Death Caldera Crystal.
- 03Follow the green beam towards the nearby blue-rock blockage.
- 04Enter Death Mountain East Tunnel.
- 05Complete the mine-cart route and defeat the Igneo Talus.
- 06Bring the crystal out of the tunnel.
- 07Carry or transport it back to Momosik Shrine.
- 08Enter the completed shrine and collect the Big Battery and Light of Blessing.
Walkthrough
1. Activate Momosik Shrine
Approach the shrine and examine its terminal. The shrine remains inaccessible, but the game starts The Death Caldera Crystal and projects a green light towards the cave.
Do not search the shrine interior at this stage. The structure cannot be completed until the crystal is returned.
2. Break through the tunnel entrance
Follow the beam towards the nearby blue rock or blue sediment blocking the tunnel. Break through it with a suitable weapon, Yunobo’s rolling ability or other rock-destroying tools.
A blunt weapon is normally the most practical option. Avoid wasting valuable high-durability weapons if a basic rock hammer or disposable fused weapon is available.
3. Deal with the first cave enemies
The Horriblin near the early section can attack from the cave ceiling. A bow is useful for knocking it down before it can grab or throw Link. Fire Keese are particularly dangerous if Link is standing close to lava or on a narrow rail platform.
The tunnel also contains Brightbloom Seeds and Giant Brightbloom Seeds, which can help illuminate the route if the cave is dark.
4. Build the first mine cart
A mine cart and fan are available near the track. Attach the fan to the rear of the cart, place the cart on the rails and activate the fan.
Ride along the track until reaching the next solid section. The cave’s railway is the intended route through the tunnel, although Link can use other Zonai devices or climbing routes if he has enough stamina and heat protection.
5. Check the side opening
The tunnel includes a side area containing the cave’s Bubbulfrog. It is worth checking before continuing because the Bubbul Gem is permanently missable from the local route only in the practical sense that it is easy to overlook, although the cave itself remains accessible after the shrine quest.
After dealing with the Bubbulfrog, return to the railway and continue through the tunnel. The route uses another mine cart and fan to reach the deeper chamber.
6. Prepare for the Igneo Talus
At the far end of the rail route, the green crystal is attached to a seemingly ordinary mass of hot rock. Approaching it causes the rock to transform into an Igneo Talus.
7. Defeat the Igneo Talus
The Igneo Talus’s body is too hot to climb safely at the start of the encounter. Use an ice-based attack against its body to cool it. An arrow fused with Ice Fruit is a reliable method. Once cooled, the Talus can be climbed, allowing Link to attack the green ore deposit on its back.
If Link falls into lava, fireproof protection alone may not prevent damage from the lava itself, so avoid jumping blindly from the Talus. The exact materials dropped by a Talus can vary, but the green shrine crystal is the fixed quest item needed here.
8. Transport the crystal out
After the Igneo Talus is defeated, detach or pick up the green crystal. Place it in a mine cart and attach a fan. Use the rail route to return towards the cave entrance.
The crystal is a quest object, not a normal inventory item. If it is awkwardly positioned on the cart, use Ultrahand to stabilise it before activating the fan. If the cart stops or tips over, the crystal can usually be repositioned and the journey continued.
9. Return the crystal to the shrine
Bring the crystal out of Death Mountain East Tunnel and carry it across the surface to Momosik Shrine. Placing it at the shrine completes The Death Caldera Crystal. The shrine activates and its entrance opens.
---
Momosik Shrine uses the Rauru’s Blessing format. There is no internal puzzle, timed challenge or shrine guardian fight. The interior consists of a short path over a void, a central platform with a stone treasure chest and the Rauru and Sonia statue at the far end.
7. Defeat the Igneo Talus: A practical sequence is
- 01Keep your distance while the Talus is active.
- 02Fire an ice-fused arrow at its body.
- 03Climb the cooled Talus.
- 04Attack the green ore deposit.
- 05Jump clear when it begins to shake Link off.
- 06Repeat the cooling and climbing process.
Completion steps
The shrine’s external challenge is therefore the meaningful part of the location. Once the crystal quest is complete, the interior can be cleared in seconds.
Completion steps: steps
- 01Enter Momosik Shrine after returning the crystal.
- 02Walk along the central route.
- 03Open the stone chest on the middle platform.
- 04Continue to the Rauru and Sonia statue.
- 05Interact with the terminal.
- 06Receive the Light of Blessing.
Shrine inventory
The Big Battery is a Zonai device-related item and is not the same thing as a battery-cell upgrade. It is a fixed chest reward for this shrine.
---
Shrine inventory
| Location | Item | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Central platform inside Momosik Shrine | Big Battery | Fixed chest reward |
| Altar at the end of the shrine | Light of Blessing | Fixed completion reward |
Fixed or quest-critical enemies
The Igneo Talus is the only enemy that must be defeated to complete the shrine quest. The other cave enemies can be fought, avoided or dealt with while travelling through the tunnel.
Collectibles and materials
Talus drops are not all guaranteed to be identical in every encounter. Sources list possible mineral rewards such as Amber, Ruby, Flint, Opal and Diamond for Igneo Talus encounters, but the shrine quest’s fixed rewards are the crystal, Big Battery and Light of Blessing.
---
Momosik Shrine has no settlement, shop, inn, stable, forge, cooking station or named resident. Its functional facilities are limited to:
The tunnel is an exploration site rather than a staffed service location. The mine carts and fans are environmental or Zonai equipment used for traversal, not a permanent transport service.
Fast travel value
Once activated, Momosik Shrine is a useful fast-travel point for:
It is particularly useful if the player is completing Eldin Canyon’s caves, hunting Talus enemies or revisiting the tunnel for missed collectibles.
---
Momosik Shrine has three important progression states.
The quest does not depend on a specific main-story completion state in the available evidence. It is presented as an independently accessible Eldin Canyon Shrine Quest, provided Link can reach the area and survive the extreme heat. The main practical requirement is heat protection for the tunnel.
---
This route separates the fixed shrine rewards from optional tunnel exploration. The Big Battery and Light of Blessing are guaranteed, while the Bubbulfrog and mineral drops are additional rewards from the connected cave area.
---
Before leaving the area, confirm that you have:
---
Fast travel value
| State | What is visible | What Link can do |
|---|---|---|
| Unactivated | Shrine structure is present but inactive | Examine it to begin The Death Caldera Crystal |
| Quest active | Green beam points towards Death Mountain East Tunnel | Enter the cave, defeat the Igneo Talus and retrieve the crystal |
| Completed | Shrine is active and available for travel | Collect Big Battery and Light of Blessing; use shrine as a fast-travel point |

Is Momosik Shrine inside Death Mountain East Tunnel?
No. Momosik Shrine is outside on the eastern side of Death Caldera. Death Mountain East Tunnel is the connected cave where the shrine crystal is found.
Does Momosik Shrine have a puzzle?
Not inside the shrine. It is a Rauru’s Blessing shrine. The actual challenge is the external crystal quest, including the mine-cart route and Igneo Talus fight.
What is in the chest?
The chest contains a Big Battery.
What is the reward for completing the shrine?
The shrine awards one Light of Blessing after Link reaches the terminal at the altar.
What protection do I need?
You need protection from Eldin’s extreme heat in Death Mountain East Tunnel. Flamebreaker equipment or a suitable fireproof elixir is the standard solution.
Can I avoid fighting the Igneo Talus?
The Talus is the creature carrying the crystal, so the available walkthrough evidence treats defeating it as the intended and necessary way to obtain the crystal. Ice-based attacks make the fight much easier by cooling its body and exposing the climbing route.
Is there a Lightroot below the shrine?
Yes. Momosik Shrine corresponds with Kisomom Lightroot in the Depths. The Lightroot is a separate Depths location, not part of the shrine’s surface interior.
