Key takeaways
- Goron City is in Eldin Canyon, not the whole of Death Mountain Death Mountain, the Death Mountain Chasm, the Fire Temple, YunoboCo HQ and nearby caves are separate named locations.
- The city is the base for the Eldin regional phenomenon Speak with the Gorons and investigate Yunobo’s behaviour to begin “Yunobo of Goron City”.
- Surface Death Mountain is cooler than in Breath of the Wild, but caves, mines and volcanic interiors still require Flame Guard. Do not assume the absence of surface lava means the whole region is safe.
- Ripped and Shredded is the key preparation shop It sells Flamebreaker armour, which is the most reliable protection for Death Mountain’s hotter interiors.
- Marakuguc Shrine is the city’s principal fast-travel point It is especially useful for returning to the town after exploring the northern minecart routes.
- YunoboCo HQ is not simply another city building It is a separate industrial site north of Goron City, connected to the main quest and surrounded by caves, minecart tracks and blocked passages.
About this guide
Scope: This guide covers Goron City itself and its immediately connected northern approach, including the city’s main streets, buildings, nearby route landmarks and YunoboCo HQ where the settlement’s story naturally continues. It does not treat the whole of Eldin Canyon, Death Mountain, the Fire Temple or every surrounding mine and cave as part of Goron City. Those are neighbouring areas with their own boundaries and progression.
Overview
Goron City is the principal settlement of the Goron tribe in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It stands in Eldin Canyon, at the western foot of Death Mountain, and serves as the region’s commercial, social and story centre. Although it occupies the same broad site as the settlement in Breath of the Wild, the city’s circumstances have changed dramatically. Death Mountain has become dormant, the lava around the town has largely cooled, Yunobo has founded a mining company, and the Gorons are suffering from the effects of Marbled Rock Roast.
The city is the starting point for the Eldin regional storyline, “Yunobo of Goron City”, which eventually leads through YunoboCo HQ, Death Mountain and the Fire Temple. It is also one of the most useful places in the region for buying Flamebreaker equipment, stocking up on supplies and learning how Eldin’s mining economy has developed after the events of Breath of the Wild.
From the west
The most straightforward overland approach is from the Eldin Canyon road system, travelling from the direction of Foothill Stable and the western Eldin roads. This route gradually leads towards the Goron settlement and is suitable for players arriving during the main regional investigation.
This approach is safer than entering through the mountain itself, but players should still watch for monsters, unstable terrain and overheated caves.
From the north
The northern road is the most important route for the Goron storyline. It leads towards minecart stations and eventually to YunoboCo HQ. A minecart can be used to travel along the rails, although the player may need to adjust track junctions or use Zonai devices to complete particular routes.
YunoboCo HQ is reported at approximately 1619, 2820, 0420, but coordinates are best treated as navigation aids rather than substitutes for the named map location.
A practical route is
- 01Enter Goron City and activate Marakuguc Shrine.
- 02Restock at the town’s shops before leaving.
- 03Follow the northern road out of the settlement.
- 04Reach the minecart station.
- 05Take the route leading towards YunoboCo HQ.
- 06Explore the headquarters and nearby caves before continuing towards Death Mountain.
By fast travel
Marakuguc Shrine is the city’s most useful fast-travel destination. Activate it as soon as possible. It allows quick returns to the shops, makes the regional quest easier to manage and provides a convenient launch point for northern minecart exploration.
From the sky
Descending from the Eldin sky islands can be useful when the player wants to bypass parts of the road. However, the town’s built-up area is easier to navigate from the ground, and the northern industrial route is still best understood by following the road and tracks.
From the Depths
The Depths beneath Eldin and Death Mountain are separate from Goron City. They contain locations associated with Gorondia and the Fire Temple, but they should not be treated as underground districts of the town. Gorondia is described as the ancestral underground home of the Gorons, with ruins spread through the Death Mountain and Eldin Canyon Depths.
---
Goron City has several useful businesses. Their names and functions should be kept distinct: a shop that sells equipment is not the same as an inn, food stall or decorative building.
Ripped and Shredded
Ripped and Shredded is the city’s armour shop, managed by Rogaro. Its principal importance is the Flamebreaker set, which provides Flame Guard for hot environments.
The shop is particularly valuable before entering Death Mountain’s caves or the Fire Temple route. Flamebreaker equipment can be expensive early in the game, so players may need to sell spare ore, cook valuable meals or return later with more Rupees.
Goron Gusto Shop
Goron Gusto Shop is the town’s general store, managed by Tanko. Its stock includes everyday materials and supplies associated with the Eldin region. The store is useful for topping up ingredients and ammunition before travelling into the mines.
Its stock should be checked after story progression, since shop inventories can change or expand at relevant points.
Rollin’ Inn
Rollin’ Inn is Goron City’s inn, run by Tray. The inn provides a place to sleep and offers a special massage service. The massage costs 80 Rupees and grants temporary extra Hearts and an additional temporary Stamina Ring.
The service is useful before a long climb or hazardous expedition, although it is not a substitute for proper food, Flame Guard or healing items. The inn also functions as a social location where certain visitors may appear depending on progression.
Protein Palace
Protein Palace is an outdoor food business operated by Aji. It sells grilled food rather than functioning as a conventional general store. Available items include grilled meat, fish and mushrooms.
Because its stock is prepared food, it is useful for players who want immediate healing without spending time cooking. It is not a full cooking service and should not be treated as one.
Other visible businesses
Goron City contains additional stalls, signs and building fronts that contribute to the settlement’s commercial appearance. Not every named-looking structure is a purchasable property or an interactive shop. Players should distinguish:
Business directory
The first four businesses are inside Goron City. YunoboCo HQ is a separate northern location.
---
The city’s population includes elders, workers, shopkeepers, children and visitors. Some characters remain in the city throughout the game, while others move according to quests or time of day.
Story-associated residents
Bludo
Bludo is the Goron elder and one of the central figures in the Eldin regional storyline. At the start of the Goron crisis, he is concerned about the effects of Marbled Rock Roast and the disruption caused by Yunobo’s mining operation.
Bludo represents the older civic leadership of Goron City, in contrast with Yunobo’s newer commercial role.
Yunobo
Yunobo is the president of YunoboCo and the main figure in the regional phenomenon. By this point in the story, he has grown from the hesitant young Goron seen in Breath of the Wild into a business leader. The influence of the mask given to him by the false Zelda causes him to behave aggressively and drives the Marbled Rock Roast crisis.
After the mask is destroyed, Yunobo becomes the player’s companion for the Eldin storyline and later awakens as the Sage of Fire.
Slergo and Offrak
Slergo and Offrak are young Gorons associated with YunoboCo. Their presence helps establish that the company is not merely Yunobo’s personal project but a larger attempt to rebuild Goron prosperity through mining.
Rogaro
Rogaro manages Ripped and Shredded. His dialogue reflects the practical dangers of Eldin’s heat and the importance of wearing Flamebreaker equipment.
Tanko
Tanko manages Goron Gusto Shop and serves as one of the city’s main sources of supplies.
Tray
Tray runs Rollin’ Inn. He is connected to Volcon, another Goron associated with the inn, and provides the town’s rest and massage service.
Aji
Aji runs Protein Palace, selling grilled food in the city.
Visitors and non-permanent residents
Some named characters associated with the city are visitors rather than permanent members of its civic population.
The available character directory places Axyl, Bohrin, Jengo, Tanko, Ramella, Gonguron, Krane, Rogaro, Tray, Volcon, Pyle, Fugo, Rohan, Douma, Aji, Bludo and Kima under Goron City. Their exact movement and quest status can vary by progression.

This directory separates named characters recorded under Goron City from the broader Eldin cast. It does not claim that every listed character remains in the same place at every stage of the game.

“Yunobo of Goron City”
The city’s principal activity is the Eldin regional phenomenon.
Before the quest
When Link first arrives during the crisis, many Gorons are obsessed with Marbled Rock Roast. The food has altered their behaviour, reduced their interest in work and caused serious concern among the elders. Bludo is particularly worried about Yunobo’s activities.
The quest begins by investigating the situation in the city and speaking with the Gorons gathered around the central crisis.
Recommended walkthrough
- 01Enter Goron City and activate Marakuguc Shrine. This prevents a long return journey later.
Recommended walkthrough
- 01Speak with Bludo and observe the affected Gorons. The city’s dialogue establishes that the problem is not ordinary hunger or a simple labour dispute.
Recommended walkthrough
- 01Follow the story towards YunoboCo HQ. The route leads north through minecart infrastructure and industrial terrain.
Recommended walkthrough
- 01Investigate the headquarters. YunoboCo HQ contains story evidence, including Yunobo’s diary and the company’s connection to the mining crisis. His diary describes the deterioration of Goron City after the eruption stopped and the climate changed.
Recommended walkthrough
- 01Confront Yunobo. The mask is the source of his altered behaviour. Destroying it returns Yunobo to his normal personality.
Recommended walkthrough
- 01Continue through Death Mountain. Yunobo becomes Link’s companion and his charge ability is used to break obstacles, destroy certain rocks and propel the journey through the volcanic route.
Recommended walkthrough
- 01Reach the Fire Temple. The temple is located in the Depths and is not part of Goron City. It represents the culmination of the Eldin regional quest, not a city subarea.
Recommended walkthrough
- 01Defeat the temple boss and complete the regional phenomenon. Yunobo later becomes the Sage of Fire, and his vow remains available as a companion ability.
Changes after the regional phenomenon
Completing the Eldin regional story changes the tone of Goron City and the surrounding industrial areas. The Marbled Rock Roast crisis ends, Yunobo’s true personality returns and the Gorons regain their ordinary occupations.
Because characters may move after major quest stages, players attempting to catalogue every NPC should revisit the town before and after the regional phenomenon.
---
Flamebreaker armour
The Flamebreaker set is the most important equipment associated with Goron City. Ripped and Shredded sells pieces of the set, allowing Link to gain Flame Guard for hot caves and volcanic areas.
This protection is not merely convenient. The caves around Death Mountain can ignite Link without it, and ordinary heat resistance does not provide the same protection. The shop is therefore a major preparation point before following the northern route.
Ore and gemstones
Eldin’s mining economy makes ore and gemstones especially relevant around Goron City. Deposits can be found in nearby caves and industrial areas. Collecting ore is useful for:
The exact contents of deposits are not fixed to one guaranteed item in every case. Treat ore drops as variable rather than assuming that every deposit will produce a particular gemstone.
Marbled Rock Roast
Marbled Rock Roast is a story-specific form of rock roast associated with the regional crisis. It should be distinguished from ordinary Rock Roast and regular mining materials. Its presence is tied to the progression state of the Eldin quest.
Yunobo’s Diary
Yunobo’s Diary can be found at YunoboCo HQ. It provides background on the company’s creation, the cooling of Death Mountain and the worsening condition of Goron City. It is a lore item rather than a conventional reward.

Marakuguc Shrine
Marakuguc Shrine is the principal shrine in Goron City and the most important checkpoint for the settlement. Its location inside the town makes it useful for:
The shrine’s interior trial is associated with vehicles and moving platforms, fitting the Gorons’ mining and transport culture.
Activate it even if you do not intend to complete the shrine immediately. The travel point is more valuable than delaying for a later visit.
---
Goron City’s importance comes partly from its position between several distinct Eldin landmarks.
Stolock Bridge
Stolock Bridge is a major route landmark north-east of the city. It belongs to the wider road network rather than the town itself. The bridge and surrounding road help connect Goron City with the upper Death Mountain routes.
Goron Hot Springs
Goron Hot Springs lies along the road between Stolock Bridge and the Bridge of Eldin. It is a separate named location, not a city bathhouse. The springs restore health gradually while Link stands or sits in the water, making them useful during travel.
YunoboCo HQ
YunoboCo HQ is the most important immediate connection. It lies north of Goron City and is reached through the minecart system. The headquarters includes the company office, story evidence, nearby caves and routes towards Death Mountain.
Death Mountain
Death Mountain is the dominant geographical landmark east and north-east of the city. The mountain’s surface is cooler in this game, but its caves, tunnels and internal volcanic areas remain dangerous. The Death Mountain Chasm and Fire Temple are separate locations in the Depths.
Gorondia
Gorondia is not physically part of Goron City. It is the ancestral underground home of the Gorons, remembered through dialogue and rediscovered ruins associated with the Fire Temple. Its importance is historical and archaeological rather than civic.
---
Goron City itself is comparatively safe, but the routes around it become more dangerous quickly.
Heat and fire
The most important hazard is environmental heat. Surface conditions are more forgiving than in Breath of the Wild, but hot caves and volcanic interiors can set Link on fire. Flame Guard is the relevant protection.
Cave monsters
Caves around YunoboCo HQ and Death Mountain can contain standard cave enemies, ore deposits and blocked passages. Their contents can vary between locations, and not every cave has the same layout or reward type.
Gloom
A Gloom Spawn location is recorded near YunoboCo HQ. This is a serious threat because the encounter can quickly remove maximum Hearts and may lead to a Phantom Ganon battle. Treat the area near the headquarters as a combat zone rather than assuming that the industrial buildings are protected.
Marbled Rock Roast deposits
During the regional crisis, reddish rock deposits and Marbled Rock Roast can be found around YunoboCo HQ and the associated mining routes. These are connected to the story and may change after Yunobo’s mask is destroyed.
---
Goron City is one of the recurring settlements of The Legend of Zelda, but its form changes significantly between games.
Ocarina of Time
The city is a large interior cavern within Death Mountain. It contains several floors, Darunia’s chamber and the Goron Shop. The story centres on Dodongo’s Cavern, the Goron’s Ruby and the later imprisonment of the Gorons in the Fire Temple.
Breath of the Wild
The settlement becomes an open-air mining town surrounding lava channels. It contains shops, homes, bridges and industrial systems. The city is associated with Daruk, Divine Beast Vah Rudania and the Goron resistance to the Calamity.
Tears of the Kingdom
The same broad settlement has entered a period of economic and environmental uncertainty. Death Mountain is dormant, YunoboCo has taken a central role in the local economy and the city is affected by the Marbled Rock Roast crisis.
These are separate game continuities and layouts. Features such as the Ocarina of Time Goron Shop, the Goron’s Ruby or the Breath of the Wild Divine Beast should not be presented as active Tears of the Kingdom city content.
The Gorons’ older history is also expanded through Gorondia, the legendary underground settlement whose ruins are connected with the Fire Temple and the Depths.

Ripped and Shredded in Goron City sells Flamebreaker armour. The shop is the most direct preparation point for the Eldin regional quest.
Is the Fire Temple inside Goron City?
No. The Fire Temple is a separate dungeon in the Depths beneath Death Mountain and the Eldin area.
Does Marbled Rock Roast remain after the quest?
Its presence and associated NPC behaviour are progression-dependent. Revisit the city and YunoboCo HQ after completing the Eldin regional phenomenon to observe the changed state.
Is Goron Hot Springs part of the city?
No. It is a separate named location on the wider Eldin road between Stolock Bridge and the Bridge of Eldin.
What is the most important fast-travel point?
