About this guide
Spoiler warning: This guide covers the Depths, the Moshapin Shrine connection and the local Eldin region. It does not spoil the final story unless noted.
Overview
Nipahsom Lightroot is a Lightroot in the Eldin Canyon Depths in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It sits beneath the southern side of Death Mountain, in the Depths below the Lake Intenoch area. Activating it illuminates a section of the surrounding Depths, reveals the local map and creates a permanent fast-travel point.
Its surface counterpart is Moshapin Shrine, whose name is the reverse of “Nipahsom”. This pairing follows the game’s usual Lightroot naming rule: each Lightroot corresponds to a Shrine of Light on the surface, with the two names reversed.
Nipahsom is a small, self-contained location rather than a broad underground region. The nearby Eldin Canyon Depths, Death Mountain Depths, Death Mountain Chasm, Abandoned Eldin Mine and Scorching Coliseum are related navigation landmarks, but they are not subareas of Nipahsom Lightroot itself.
Location and boundaries
Nipahsom Lightroot occupies a single Lightroot site in the Eldin Canyon Depths. The immediate location consists of the glowing root, its activation point and the surrounding underground terrain. It does not include every location visible in the illuminated region.
For guide purposes, the following boundaries are useful:
Nearby but separate
These places may help with orientation or travel, but none should be treated as districts or child areas of Nipahsom Lightroot. The Eldin Canyon Depths region lists Nipahsom alongside several independent Lightroots and major sites, including the Abandoned Eldin Mine and Scorching Coliseum.
Surface counterpart: Moshapin Shrine
Nipahsom Lightroot corresponds to Moshapin Shrine on the surface. The shrine is located in Lake Intenoch Cave, in the Eldin Canyon region, along the route north of Foothill Stable. The cave entrance is near Gero Pond.
Moshapin Shrine is a Rauru’s Blessing shrine, meaning it contains no conventional puzzle or combat trial. Once the shrine entrance has been opened, Link can enter and collect:
Access to the shrine is connected to the shrine quest The Lake Intenoch Cave Crystal. The shrine quest sends Link into Lake Intenoch Cave to locate and return the green shrine crystal. The Lightroot itself does not require completion of this quest. The shrine and Lightroot are paired geographically, but activating Nipahsom does not automatically complete or unlock Moshapin Shrine.

How to reach Nipahsom Lightroot
Route 1: Enter from the Depths
The most reliable method is to enter the Eldin Depths through a nearby chasm and travel across the underground terrain.
The principal regional access point is Death Mountain Chasm, which opens through Death Mountain and leads into the Eldin underground area. Published coordinates for the surface entrance vary slightly, but it is generally placed around 2534–2535, 2601–2603, 0630–0644.
The Lightroot is positioned west of the East Akkala Plains Chasm and south of Death Mountain according to regional map references. Other map guides describe it as south of Death Mountain and west of the Scorching Coliseum.
Route 2: Use the surface shrine as an orientation point
Because Lightroots correspond to surface Shrines, Moshapin Shrine is a useful surface reference. On the surface map, locate Moshapin Shrine in Lake Intenoch Cave. The Lightroot is directly below the shrine’s general position, although the two locations are on different map layers and cannot normally be reached by simply dropping straight down from the shrine.
This is especially useful when checking whether Nipahsom has already been activated:
The one-to-one shrine and Lightroot relationship is an intended navigation aid throughout the game.
Route 1: Enter from the Depths: From the Depths
- 01Enter through Death Mountain Chasm.
- 02Use Brightbloom Seeds or other light sources while navigating.
- 03Watch the temperature and equip Flame Guard protection before travelling through hot areas.
- 04Use nearby Lightroots as intermediate fast-travel points if the route is unclear.
- 05Travel towards the Nipahsom marker, which lies east of the main Death Mountain underground route and south of the mountain’s surface mass.
- 06Activate Nipahsom Lightroot as soon as you reach it.
Route 2: Use the surface shrine as an orientation point
- 01Open the surface map.
- 02Locate Moshapin Shrine.
- 03Switch to the Depths map.
- 04Check the matching position beneath it.
- 05If the Lightroot icon is missing or unlit, mark the approximate underground location and approach through a chasm.
What activating Nipahsom Lightroot does
Interacting with the root produces the standard Lightroot benefits:
Lightroots are also useful as safe navigation anchors. If Link has taken Gloom damage, reaching the root provides a convenient place to recover the affected maximum health before continuing. The Lightroot’s illumination does not remove Gloom from the wider landscape, and it does not permanently cleanse Gloom pools or Gloom-covered enemies.
Climate and hazards
Scorching Eldin conditions
Nipahsom is in the Eldin volcanic region. The underground area around Death Mountain contains hot terrain and areas where Link can suffer damage from extreme heat. A Flame Guard effect is therefore important.
One guide specifically recommends Flame Guard level 2 for reaching Nipahsom safely. Treat that as the sensible preparation for a direct expedition, particularly if travelling away from the Lightroot through hotter passages.
Darkness and Gloom
The route to Nipahsom may pass through unlit Depths terrain. Darkness itself does not damage Link, but it makes cliffs, lava-like hazards, enemies and Gloom difficult to see. Brightbloom Seeds are usually more practical than relying only on torches, since they can be thrown or attached to arrows to illuminate distant ground.
Gloom remains dangerous even after Nipahsom is activated. The Lightroot gives Link a recovery point, but it does not make the entire surrounding region harmless.
Nearby connections
The following named places are useful when planning a wider Eldin Depths expedition. They are neighbouring locations, not sections of Nipahsom Lightroot.
Gedihcayam Lightroot
Gedihcayam Lightroot lies to the east of Nipahsom in the Eldin Canyon Depths. It is another independent Lightroot and can serve as an alternative destination when exploring the underground area between Death Mountain and the Akkala side of the map.
Anonisik Lightroot
Anonisik Lightroot is another Eldin Canyon Depths Lightroot, positioned farther south-east. Regional map guides list it with Nipahsom, Gedihcayam, Kawamit and the other Lightroots in the same broad Depths region.
Kawamit Lightroot
Kawamit Lightroot lies to the west and is part of the same broad Eldin Canyon Depths network. Reaching it can help reveal more of the underground map around the southern Eldin mines and Fire Temple approaches.
Scorching Coliseum
The Scorching Coliseum is a separate Depths landmark farther south-west. It is not part of Nipahsom’s immediate location, but its position is useful for judging direction. The regional map places it among the main points of interest in the Eldin Canyon Depths.
Abandoned Eldin Mine
The Abandoned Eldin Mine is also a separate location. It has its own exploration and mine-related content and should not be included in a narrow Nipahsom Lightroot directory merely because it appears in the same regional map.

At the Lightroot
- 01Land safely near the root.
- 02Activate Nipahsom Lightroot immediately.
- 03Wait for the local map to appear.
- 04Use the glow to recover any Gloom-damaged maximum hearts.
- 05Register the root as a fast-travel point.
- 06Check the map for the next nearby Lightroot or landmark.
- 07Decide whether to return to the surface or continue towards Gedihcayam, Anonisik, Kawamit or the larger Eldin underground locations.
