Introduction

Kimayat Shrine is a surface shrine in the far north-eastern part of Hyrule, close to Gut Check Rock and west of Skull Lake. Its trial is Proving Grounds: Smash, a combat challenge in which Link temporarily loses his equipment and must defeat the shrine’s Constructs using weapons, materials and environmental hazards found inside.

The shrine is not a settlement or a broad explorable region. Its scope consists of the shrine entrance and its enclosed trial chamber. The surrounding overworld is part of the wider Eldin region, but nearby landmarks such as Gut Check Rock and Skull Lake are separate locations rather than subareas of Kimayat Shrine. Guide sources classify the shrine slightly differently, placing it in either Eldin Canyon or Deep Akkala, so the safest practical description is the northern Eldin area, west of Skull Lake.

Location and boundaries

Kimayat Shrine stands in an exposed rocky area near the northern edge of the Eldin landscape. It is north-east of Gut Check Rock and west of Skull Lake. The shrine is above ground and does not require a cave route, quest or shrine quest to reveal it.

The most convenient approach is usually from Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower. Launch from the tower and glide north towards the Skull Lake area, then continue towards the shrine marker. If the nearby Kamatukis Shrine or another Eldin fast-travel point has already been activated, that can provide a shorter starting route.

Nearby named locations

These places are connected geographically, but they are not subareas of Kimayat Shrine:

The regional terminology is not completely consistent across third-party sources. Game8 calls the shrine part of the Eldin Canyon Region, while other guides describe it as being in Deep Akkala or near Death Mountain. The practical route and shrine position are the same regardless of the label.

Shrine interior

Kimayat Shrine is a single enclosed combat arena followed by a short reward chamber. It has no residents, shops, ordinary NPCs, faction presence or optional side quest.

The main arena contains several levels and platforms around a pool of water. Constructs patrol the lower ground and occupy raised platforms. Some of the upper platforms are supported by destructible stone columns. The trial’s central idea is to combine:

The shrine’s trial is a fixed layout rather than a random or procedural encounter. The enemy arrangement, environmental objects and reward chest are part of the shrine’s designed challenge.

Shrine interior: steps

  1. 01
    Freezing effects to control enemies.
  2. 02
Fused heavy weapons to destroy stone supports.
  3. 03
Ice platforms to reach the correct position over the water.

Preparation before entering

Because Proving Grounds shrines remove Link’s equipment, your normal weapon quality matters less than your condition when you arrive.

There is no confirmed requirement to complete a main quest, activate a regional phenomenon or obtain a special ability before entering. The important ability for the solution is Ascend, which is part of Link’s standard ability set and is used to reach an upper platform.

Walkthrough: Proving Grounds: Smash

1. Collect the starting equipment

Enter the shrine and continue into the trial area. Link’s clothing, weapons, shields and normal inventory are removed. Pick up the basic weapons and materials placed near the entrance before engaging the Constructs.

Do not immediately rush towards the enemies on the raised central platforms. The trial is easier if you first collect the useful equipment around the arena and deal with the patrols on the lower level.

2. Use the Frost Emitter

Move towards the side of the arena where a Frost Emitter can be found. Fuse it to a weapon, or use it in the manner that best suits your equipment, then use the freezing effect against the Constructs on the lower level.

Freezing a Construct temporarily immobilises it and gives Link an opportunity to attack. The frost effect is especially useful here because the lower enemies can otherwise surround Link while the Constructs on the raised platforms continue attacking from above.

Keep your distance from the emitter’s line of effect. It can hinder Link as well as the enemies if used carelessly.

3. Defeat the lower Constructs

Prioritise the Constructs that patrol the ground near the entrance and arena perimeter. Use the Frost Emitter to create openings, then strike with whatever fused weapons are available.

Do not waste time trying to reach every raised platform immediately. The upper group is easier to eliminate after the support columns have been dealt with.

4. Reach the upper platform with Ascend

Once the most immediate patrols are defeated, move to the side of the room where an upper platform can be reached with Ascend.

The platform contains heavy materials, including Spiked Iron Balls. Fuse one to a weapon. These fused weapons are effective against the destructible stone supports holding up the enemy platforms.

The shrine’s objective is not simply to defeat the Constructs through ordinary swordplay. The heavy fused weapon is the intended way to break the stone columns and remove the elevated positions.

5. Create an ice platform

Look for the Ice Fruits placed around the arena. Fire an arrow fused with an Ice Fruit into the water to create an ice block. Some guides also note that the Ice Fruit can be thrown, allowing the resulting block to be repositioned with Ultrahand rather than consuming an arrow.

Position the ice block near the central destructible support. You need a temporary platform that lets Link reach the column while standing over or beside the water.

If the first block forms in an awkward place, create another or adjust it with Ultrahand. The exact position does not need to be pixel-perfect, but it must bring Link close enough to swing the fused heavy weapon at the support.

6. Destroy the support column

Stand on the ice platform or another nearby surface and attack the stone column with the Spiked Iron Ball weapon.

Breaking the column causes the elevated platform and its Constructs to collapse. The remaining enemies fall into the water and are defeated, clearing the combat portion of the shrine. This is the key environmental solution to the trial.

If a Construct survives, search the arena before assuming the shrine has failed. Defeat every remaining enemy. The exit opens only after the combat challenge is fully cleared.

7. Claim the chest and Light of Blessing

After all Constructs are defeated, the shrine returns Link’s equipment and opens the gate leading to the altar chamber.

Proceed through the opened passage and collect the chest. The listed reward is a Captain II Reaper. Some early walkthroughs describe the reward with a different Captain weapon level, so if your game displays a variant, the chest’s contents may reflect the guide’s naming or edition differences. The commonly listed reward for the shrine is Captain II Reaper.

Finally, interact with the green shrine altar to receive a Light of Blessing. The shrine is then completed and remains available as a fast-travel point.

Safest order: A reliable order is

  1. 01
Collect the weapons near the entrance.
  2. 02
    Find the Frost Emitter.
  3. 03
    Defeat the lower patrols.
  4. 04
Use Ascend to reach the side platform.
  5. 05
Fuse a Spiked Iron Ball to a weapon.
  6. 06
    Collect Ice Fruits.
  7. 07
Create an ice platform in the water.
  8. 08
    Break the support column.
  9. 09
    Finish any surviving Constructs.
  10. 10
Open the chest and activate the altar.

Rewards and progression

Kimayat Shrine does not award a unique armour piece, quest item or special ability. Its main progression value is the Light of Blessing, while its practical exploration value is the newly unlocked fast-travel point.
