About this guide
Spoiler warning: This guide discusses the shrine’s complete puzzle, treasure chest, its relationship with Yunobo of Goron City, and the route through the upper Death Mountain area.
Overview
Sitsum Shrine is a Shrine of Light in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It stands high on Death Mountain in the Eldin region and contains the trial “A Controlling Device”. Unlike a blessing shrine, Sitsum Shrine presents a compact Zonai-vehicle course: Link must drive a wheeled vehicle through lava, retrieve and transport an orb, then pilot a Wing through a final obstacle course using a Steering Stick.
The shrine is closely associated with the main quest Yunobo of Goron City, although it is not permanently missable if you arrive by another route. Its position near the upper part of Death Mountain makes it a useful fast-travel point for exploring the mountain, reaching nearby quest areas and returning to the Eldin volcanic region.
Where Sitsum Shrine is
Sitsum Shrine is located on the upper slopes of Death Mountain, east of Goron City. It is not a shrine in Goron City itself, nor is it part of the nearby Death Mountain crater or the Depths. The shrine’s immediate playable space consists of the shrine entrance and the interior Zonai trial.
For the purposes of this guide, the location includes:
It does not treat all of Death Mountain, Goron City or the Eldin region as part of Sitsum Shrine. Those are neighbouring or connected areas rather than subareas of the shrine.
Neighbouring areas and connected locations
Death Mountain
Death Mountain is the physical setting in which the shrine is built. Its volcanic terrain, steep routes and rails shape the recommended approach. The shrine sits much higher than Goron City and is best understood as an upper-mountain waypoint rather than a town facility.
Goron City
Goron City is the nearest major settlement and the natural preparation point for the Death Mountain route. It is also the starting point for the main quest Yunobo of Goron City. The city is a separate location, not part of Sitsum Shrine.
Eldin region
Eldin is the wider regional category containing Death Mountain, Goron City and Sitsum Shrine. It is too broad to use as a synonym for the shrine’s immediate surroundings.
Depths
Sitsum Shrine has a listed Depths counterpart, Mustis Lightroot, but the Lightroot is not inside Sitsum Shrine and is not part of the shrine’s surface interior. It belongs to the separate underground map layer.

Recommended route
The most natural route is to travel from Goron City towards Death Mountain and follow the mountain’s built-in rail system. During the Yunobo-related progression, Zonai-powered carts and nearby devices make the ascent practical. A fan attached to a cart can provide propulsion where the rails require it.
The approach is easier if you are already following Yunobo of Goron City, because that quest naturally leads towards the upper Death Mountain area and provides context for the rail routes.
A practical route is
- 01Begin in or around Goron City.
- 02Make sure Link has protection against the volcanic environment.
- 03Follow the Death Mountain route towards the higher slopes.
- 04Use mine-cart rails and Zonai devices where necessary.
- 05Watch for the shrine’s green spiral entrance on the mountainside.
- 06Activate Sitsum Shrine before attempting the interior trial.
Heat and flame protection
The Death Mountain area can require Flame Guard protection. The exact protection requirement depends on the section of the mountain you are crossing and the environmental conditions in your game’s current progression state. Prepare at least one of the following:
Do not confuse heat protection for Death Mountain with ordinary hot-weather protection. The relevant danger is the volcanic flame environment, not simply high daytime temperature.
If you reach the shrine outside the main quest
Sitsum Shrine can be activated and completed without treating it as a quest-only location. The shrine’s interior challenge is self-contained. However, approaching it before the relevant Death Mountain progression may be less convenient because of the terrain, rails and environmental hazards.

The trial teaches a central Zonai construction idea: a vehicle becomes much more useful when Link attaches and uses a Steering Stick. The puzzle is not primarily about combat. It tests controlled movement, parking, transporting an orb and steering a Wing through a confined course.
Room 1: Choose a wheeled vehicle
At the beginning of the shrine, several wheeled vehicles are available. Choose the vehicle facing the lava and interact with its Steering Stick.
The vehicle can be driven using the normal control input. Keep it aligned with the track and move forward through the lava section. The vehicle is already assembled, so there is no need to build a new machine at this stage.
Room 2: Retrieve the orb
As the route opens into a larger section, look for a side passage leading towards an orb on a raised platform. Several guides describe this as the right-hand route after the initial lava crossing. Drive carefully into the passage and stop near the platform.
The orb is too high to collect conveniently by hand from the ground. Use Ultrahand to attach it to the top of the vehicle.
Orb procedure
Putting the orb into the correct receptacle opens the barred route to the treasure chest. This is the shrine’s main transport puzzle. The orb does not need to remain attached to the vehicle once you have returned to the main platform.
Orb procedure
- 01Drive into the side passage.
- 02Stop close enough to the raised platform for Ultrahand to reach the orb.
- 03Attach the orb to the upper part of the vehicle.
- 04Reverse carefully out of the passage.
- 05Return to the main area.
- 06Drive up the short ramp to leave the lava section.
- 07Detach the orb with Ultrahand.
- 08Place it into the floor switch or socket.
Treasure room: Mighty Construct Bow
The opened route leads to a chest containing a Mighty Construct Bow. This is the shrine’s optional treasure and is separate from the Light of Blessing.
The bow is a fixed shrine reward rather than a random drop. If you want the shrine’s full reward, collect it before moving on to the final Wing section.
Treasure checklist
The bow’s durability and exact usefulness will depend on your current progression and inventory, but the item itself is fixed. Sitsum Shrine is therefore marked complete only after the shrine is solved, while the treasure chest can be checked separately if you are tracking 100% shrine rewards. The chest reward is identified as a Mighty Construct Bow by shrine reference guides.
Room 3: Reach the Wing course
After collecting the chest, climb the short ladder and glide or move into the next section. A Soldier Construct is present in this area. Defeat it if necessary, then inspect the nearby vehicle parts and Wings.
The important object here is the Steering Stick. Rather than building a completely new machine, detach a Steering Stick from one of the available wheeled vehicles and attach it to the marked attachment point on a Wing.
Final section: Pilot the Wing
Attach the Steering Stick to the Wing’s control point, then stand on the Wing and activate the device. The fans should provide movement automatically once the craft is active.
The final route requires you to steer through a narrow course containing columns and other obstacles. The goal is the far corner on the left, where the shrine’s finishing altar is located.
Wing procedure
The Wing does not need to be flown perfectly. Small corrections are safer than sharp turns. If you oversteer, the craft can collide with a column or drift into an awkward position. Allow the Wing to gain a little forward movement before making major adjustments.
Wing procedure
- 01Detach a Steering Stick from a nearby wheeled vehicle.
- 02Pick up a Wing with Ultrahand if necessary.
- 03Attach the Steering Stick to the Wing’s marked control point.
- 04Stand on the Wing.
- 05Activate the Wing’s fans.
- 06Use the left stick to steer.
- 07Avoid the columns and keep the Wing moving forwards.
- 08Land near the green shrine light and altar.
- 09Interact with the altar to receive the Light of Blessing.
Completion reward
The final altar gives one Light of Blessing. Completing the shrine also activates it as a fast-travel point and restores Link’s health in the usual way for a completed Shrine of Light.

For players who want the shortest reliable solution:
---
Completion reward: steps
- 01Enter Sitsum Shrine and choose the wheeled vehicle facing the lava.
- 02Activate its Steering Stick.
- 03Drive through the lava.
- 04Take the side passage, commonly described as the right-hand route.
- 05Use Ultrahand to attach the raised orb to the vehicle.
- 06Reverse out and drive up the ramp.
- 07Detach the orb and place it in the floor socket.
- 08Open the bars and collect the Mighty Construct Bow.
- 09Continue to the next room and deal with the Soldier Construct.
- 10Detach a Steering Stick from a nearby vehicle.
- 11Attach it to a Wing.
- 12Fly through the obstacle course.
- 13Reach the green altar and collect the Light of Blessing.
Soldier Construct
A Soldier Construct appears in the later section of the shrine, near the Wings. It is the principal enemy encounter inside the trial. It can be defeated before assembling the Wing, allowing you to work without being interrupted.
The Construct is not the shrine’s boss and does not provide a unique named reward. Its purpose is partly to make the player notice that the vehicle-building area is also a combat space.
Lava
The opening route crosses lava. The shrine’s vehicle is designed to carry Link over it, so Link should not attempt to swim or walk through the lava. If the vehicle becomes stuck, use Ultrahand to pull it free or reset its position by moving around the nearby construction area.
Obstacles in the Wing course
The final Wing section contains columns and confined flight lines. These are the main hazard after the puzzle’s combat element. The Wing can usually be corrected if you begin steering early, but a late sharp turn is more likely to cause a collision.

Fixed shrine rewards
Functional devices used in the trial
The devices are puzzle equipment supplied within the shrine. They should not be treated as additional permanent inventory rewards unless Link separately acquires a device capsule or other item through normal gameplay.
---
Sitsum Shrine has no resident population, shop, named shrine attendant or local faction. The following named entries are connected to the location but are not residents of the shrine:
Yunobo is relevant because Sitsum Shrine lies on the route associated with the main quest Yunobo of Goron City. Goron City and the Gorons belong to the neighbouring settlement and regional story context, not to the shrine interior itself.
There are no ordinary NPCs, businesses, guards or law-enforcement facilities inside Sitsum Shrine. The Soldier Construct is a hostile shrine encounter rather than a resident or security service.

Functional devices used in the trial
Relation to Yunobo of Goron City
The shrine is strongly associated with the Death Mountain section of the story and is commonly encountered while following Yunobo of Goron City. However, the available walkthrough evidence describes it as an ordinary Shrine of Light with the independent trial title A Controlling Device, not as a shrine that requires a separate shrine quest.
---
Quest-focused route
Use this route if you are progressing through the Eldin regional storyline:
This is the most useful order because it combines story progression with a permanent return point.
Quest-focused route: steps
- 01Prepare Flame Guard protection.
- 02Start from Goron City.
- 03Follow the Death Mountain rail route.
- 04Activate Sitsum Shrine when you pass it.
- 05Complete the shrine immediately to establish a fast-travel point.
- 06Continue with the Yunobo-related route.
If you are collecting shrines independently
- 01Travel towards Death Mountain from the Eldin side.
- 02Use carts, fans and existing rails to reach the upper slopes.
- 03Activate Sitsum Shrine.
- 04Complete the orb puzzle and collect the Mighty Construct Bow.
- 05Finish the Wing course.
- 06Use the shrine as your return point for further Death Mountain exploration.
Completionist checklist
---
“The vehicle will not turn properly”
Check that you are using the vehicle’s Steering Stick rather than trying to steer by pushing the vehicle with Ultrahand. Make small corrections, especially near the lava and side passage.
“I cannot reach the orb”
Drive close to the raised ledge, then use Ultrahand. The orb is intended to be carried on the vehicle rather than climbed to directly.
“The orb fell off”
Use Ultrahand to retrieve it and attach it again. Position it on a stable upper surface of the vehicle. You do not need to restart the shrine.
“The Wing keeps crashing”
Allow the Wing to move forwards, then steer gradually. Avoid holding the stick fully to one side. Begin turning before reaching the columns rather than waiting until the last moment.
“I completed the shrine but did not get the bow”
The bow is in the chest opened by the orb mechanism, before the final Wing section. Return to the shrine and check the treasure room. The Light of Blessing and the Mighty Construct Bow are separate rewards.
“Can I complete Sitsum Shrine before Yunobo’s quest?”
The shrine is not described as permanently locked to the main quest. It is possible to approach and complete it independently, although the Death Mountain route may be more convenient once the associated regional progression has been started. The main practical restriction is reaching the location safely through the volcanic environment.
---
Sitsum Shrine is an example of the Zonai technology-focused shrine design used throughout Tears of the Kingdom. Its trial presents the Steering Stick not as an abstract tutorial prompt, but as a practical tool for solving two different transport problems:
The progression from a wheeled vehicle to a Wing also mirrors the game’s larger construction philosophy. The player first operates a prepared machine, then modifies a machine by relocating a Steering Stick, and finally uses the resulting vehicle to reach the altar.
The shrine’s placement on Death Mountain reinforces that idea. The surrounding region is built around rails, carts, volcanic terrain and Goron transport routes, while the interior condenses those environmental ideas into a short technical challenge.
