About this guide

Scope: Base game surface, sky and Depths locations belonging to the Akkala province. Spoilers: This guide discusses regional quests, the Yiga Clan, the Depths, the Lomei labyrinths and late-game story developments.

Overview

Akkala is Hyrule’s north-eastern province, a broad territory of red cliffs, wooded highlands, stormy coast, old military ruins and scattered frontier settlements. In Tears of the Kingdom, it is more than the familiar countryside around Tarrey Town. The province includes the Akkala Highlands, the Akkala Sea, Deep Akkala, the corresponding sky archipelagos and large sections of the Depths beneath them. Treating Tarrey Town or the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab as the whole region misses much of what makes Akkala distinctive.

The surface is divided into three principal areas: Akkala Highlands, Akkala Sea and Deep Akkala. The same regional structure continues vertically into the sky and underground, with the Akkala Highlands Sky, Akkala Sea Sky and Deep Akkala Sky above, and separate Depths areas beneath the highlands, sea and Deep Akkala. The regional location index also identifies sky and Depths areas independently rather than treating them as simple extensions of the surface.

Akkala’s most important settlements are Tarrey Town, in the south-western highlands, and the two stables on its roads: South Akkala Stable and East Akkala Stable. Further north-east stands the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, now associated with Robbie and the Purah Pad rather than the Sheikah technology research of Breath of the Wild. The region also contains the Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower, the Lomei Labyrinth complex, the Spring of Power, Skull Lake, several chasms, and the abandoned military sites around Akkala Citadel.

Akkala Highlands

The highlands form the most populated part of the province. Tarrey Town is situated in the south-west, while the citadel ruins and Ulri Mountain occupy the centre. The eastern edge descends towards Lake Akkala and the Akkala Sea.

Directory: Akkala Highlands

The highlands list is broad because many small geographical names are treated as locations in their own right. The regional location page specifically includes areas such as Akkala Bridge Ruins, Akkala Citadel Ruins, Akkala Falls, Akkala Span, East Akkala Plains, East Sokkala Bridge, Kaepora Pass, Kanalet Ridge, Lake Akkala, Rist Peninsula, Sokkala Bridge, South Akkala Plains, Tarrey Town, Torin Wetland, Ukuku Plains, Ulri Mountain and Ulria Grotto.

Directory: Akkala Highlands

Deep Akkala

Deep Akkala lies north-east of the main highlands. The terrain becomes more rugged, and the roads narrow as they approach the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab. This is the region’s most isolated surface settlement zone, although the East Akkala Stable provides a useful base.

Directory: Deep Akkala

Some boundaries overlap in practical play. For example, Ordorac Quarry and Rist Peninsula are associated with the north-eastern region in many location lists but are also part of the coastal approach to the Akkala Sea. They should not be collapsed into Tarrey Town’s highlands.

Directory: Deep Akkala

Akkala Sea

The Akkala Sea is not simply the water around the province. It includes the eastern coast, island chains and the Lomei Labyrinth complex. It is particularly useful for gliding, sailing and exploring with Zonai devices.

Directory: Akkala Sea

The naming is not always consistent between regional pages and map categories. The important distinction is functional: Lomei Labyrinth Island, Lomei Sky Labyrinth and Lomei Depths Labyrinth are separate three-dimensional stages of the same labyrinth complex.

From Lookout Landing and Central Hyrule

The most straightforward route is north-east along the main roads.

This route is suitable for a first visit because it combines stable access, a settlement, the regional map tower and several nearby shrines.

From Lookout Landing and Central Hyrule: steps

  1. 01
Travel through the Hyrule Field approaches towards the road leading to South Akkala Stable.
  2. 02
Register a horse and use the stable as a southern base.
  3. 03
Continue north-east through the highlands, passing the ruined military sites.
  4. 04
Reach Tarrey Town either by road or by gliding from the nearby high ground.
  5. 05
Continue north to Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower.
  6. 06
From the tower, travel east or north-east towards East Akkala Stable, the coast and the Ancient Tech Lab.

From Eldin

Akkala and Eldin connect through the western and south-western highlands. This is a useful route if Link has already explored Death Mountain or Goron City. The roads around Akkala Citadel and Akkala Bridge provide the clearest transition between the two provinces.

From the sky

Once Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower is active, it is often quicker to launch and glide towards Tarrey Town, East Akkala Stable or the northern coast. Skyview Tower launches are especially useful in rainy weather, when climbing the red cliffs becomes frustrating.

The sky islands also provide direct access to otherwise awkward locations. The Lomei Sky Labyrinth can be approached from the air, while Sky Mine and the Sokkala Sky Archipelago are best reached using nearby launch points, Recall, Zonai devices or long-distance gliding.

From the Depths

The Depths can also be reached indirectly through Lightroot travel once the appropriate area has been explored. Bring Brightbloom Seeds, arrows, healing items and gloom resistance if possible.

---

Tarrey Town is Akkala’s principal settlement and the most useful base in the province. It was originally founded during Breath of the Wild as a construction project and has become a permanent multicultural town by the events of Tears of the Kingdom.

The town’s central role is reflected in its mix of residents and services. It is not simply a Hylian village. Gorons, Gerudo, Rito and other travellers are present, and Hudson’s construction business gives the town a practical connection to Link’s building abilities.

Services

Fyson’s General Store

Fyson’s General Store is the town’s ordinary shop. Its stock should be checked after major progression because shops can expand or alter their available goods. Do not assume that every building with a commercial-looking name provides a full shop inventory. Fyson’s is the confirmed general-store service.

Tarrey Town Inn

The inn provides a place to rest and access the usual bed services. It is the settlement’s accommodation rather than a quest-only building.

Link’s House is a purchasable property associated with Hudson and Rhondson’s construction work. It is distinct from the general town facilities. The house can be customised with rooms and furnishings rather than functioning like an ordinary NPC home.

Hudson Construction Site

The construction site is the centre of several building-related activities. It is also associated with Hudson’s sign work, the town’s expansion and the practical use of Ultrahand.

The Monster Gallery allows Link to display monster sculptures made through Hudson Construction. It is primarily a collection and building activity rather than a conventional shop.

The regional guide lists Fyson’s General Store, Tarrey Town Inn, East Akkala Stable, South Akkala Stable and Link’s House as distinct service locations.

Tarrey Town quests and activities

Mattison’s Independence

This quest follows Mattison, Hudson and Rhondson and deals with Mattison’s Gerudo heritage and growing independence. It is one of the town’s main character-focused quests and contributes to the settlement’s sense of family and continuity.

Rock for Sale

Hagie’s shrine quest concerns a valuable rock near Tarrey Town. The quest is associated with Jochi-ihiga Shrine and is listed as a Tarrey Town shrine quest.

Hudson signs

Addison appears around Hyrule with unstable Hudson signs. In and around Akkala, Link can use Ultrahand to support the signs with improvised structures. These encounters are separate from Tarrey Town’s permanent construction facilities and should not be confused with the town’s building quests.

---

South Akkala Stable

South Akkala Stable is the main southern gateway to the province. It supports horse registration, boarding, resting and stable-related activities. Penn can be encountered here for the The All-Clucking Cucco side adventure, one of the Lucky Clover Gazette investigations.

The stable is well placed for a first sweep of Akkala Highlands. From here, Link can reach Tarrey Town, Akkala Citadel, the parade ground and the road towards Ulri Mountain.

East Akkala Stable

East Akkala Stable is the north-eastern staging point for the Ancient Tech Lab, Spring of Power and Skull Lake. It is particularly valuable when exploring Deep Akkala because the surrounding terrain has fewer convenient settlements.

The road north-east from the stable climbs towards the laboratory. Be prepared for monsters, cliffs and rain. A horse is helpful on the lower road, but gliding and climbing become more practical near the laboratory.

Main roads and crossings

The roads do not form a perfectly safe network. Some appear to continue but turn into steep slopes, broken bridges or monster-held approaches. Use the Skyview Tower to identify the practical route before committing to a long climb.

---

Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower is Akkala’s regional map tower. It is located north of Tarrey Town and is visible from much of the surrounding highlands.

The tower is not immediately usable when first found because its launch mechanism has a problem involving a creature. The solution is to locate the creature, remove the obstruction and return to activate the terminal. The exact encounter is manageable with ordinary weapons or arrows, and it does not require a special regional ability.

Once activated, the tower reveals the surface and nearby sky geography. It is one of the most useful unlocks in Akkala because the terrain’s cliffs and forests make ground navigation deceptive.

Practical advice: activate the tower before attempting the Lomei complex or the Ancient Tech Lab unless you are deliberately exploring without map assistance.

---

The Akkala Ancient Tech Lab stands in Deep Akkala, on the road beyond East Akkala Stable. In Tears of the Kingdom, Robbie has left the old Sheikah-research role behind and the building no longer functions as the same equipment-upgrade laboratory seen in Breath of the Wild.

Instead, the location is tied to Robbie’s research and the development of Purah Pad functions. Visiting it is important for progression because it unlocks or advances equipment-related research after the relevant early-game events.

The building should be treated as a story and technology facility, not as a general shop. Its importance is connected to the Purah Pad, camera research and later upgrades rather than purchasing ordinary supplies.

NameDetails
Akkala Spana major bridge and road landmark in the highlands.
Akkala Bridge Ruinsa ruined crossing associated with the region’s military past.
East Sokkala Bridgeone of the eastern road crossings.
West Sokkala Bridgethe western counterpart.
Sokkala Bridgethe broader named crossing in the highlands.
Kaepora Passa named mountain route.
Shadow Passa more secluded route near the eastern highlands.

Akkala Citadel Ruins

Akkala Citadel is the region’s most imposing surface ruin. Its high position gives it defensive value and wide views over the highlands. The ruins contain hostile encounters, climbable structures and caves, including the Citadel Ruins Cave and Citadel Ruins Summit Cave.

The citadel is useful as a navigation landmark even when Link is not specifically investigating it. Its broken walls and towers make it easy to identify from the air.

Akkala Parade Ground Ruins

The parade ground is a broad open ruin associated with the old military infrastructure. It is an effective place to observe enemy formations and practise combat, though the exact encounters depend on the game’s progression and enemy scaling.

Akkala Bridge Ruins and Akkala Span

These sites show how the province’s roads once connected the military centre to the surrounding settlements. They are also valuable for travelling between the southern highlands and the central ruins.

---

Akkala contains a wide mixture of enemies rather than one exclusive regional species. Common threats include Bokoblins, Lizalfos, Moblins, Horriblins in caves and Yiga Clan members. Stronger variants become more likely as the game progresses.

Environmental hazards

The Depths beneath Akkala also contain large enemy compounds and special locations such as the Ancient Underground Fortress and Akkala House of Bones. These should be approached with stronger armour, a good supply of arrows and a plan for gloom recovery.

---

Akkala is rich in ordinary exploration rewards rather than being dominated by one unique collectible type.

Environmental hazards

Environmental hazards
NameDetails
Rainmakes long climbs unreliable.
Vertical terrainmany direct routes are slower than gliding or using a vehicle.
Cavesoften contain ore, Bubbulfrogs, Horriblins and hidden chests.
Deep water and cliffsespecially around Lake Akkala, Ulria Grotto and the eastern coast.
Gloompresent in the Depths and capable of reducing maximum hearts.
Darknessthe Depths require Brightbloom Seeds, lightroots or other illumination.
Yiga ambushessuspicious travellers or isolated structures may become hostile.

Caves

Caves commonly contain ore deposits, chests, Bubbul Gems from Bubbulfrogs, enemy camps and side-quest objectives. Their rewards are fixed by location, while enemy drops and loose materials can vary.

Shrines

Some shrines are discovered directly, while others are revealed through shrine quests or the Lomei Labyrinth sequence. Shrines provide Light of Blessing rewards and fast-travel points once activated.

Named shrines associated with Akkala include

Sky and Depths rewards

The sky areas contain Zonai devices, chests and shrine challenges. The Depths provide large Zonaite deposits, mines, Yiga structures, treasure chests and Lightroots. The Abandoned Tarrey Mine is especially relevant for mining and underground exploration.

---

The Akkala Lomei complex is one of the region’s most substantial activities. It is not one location but a linked set of stages:

The puzzle is built around navigation through maze-like structures. The sky and Depths stages make the challenge three-dimensional, so a map route that works on the surface does not automatically solve the entire activity.

Sky and Depths rewards: steps

  1. 01
Lomei Labyrinth Island on the surface.
  2. 02
Lomei Sky Labyrinth above the coast.
  3. 03
Lomei Depths Labyrinth below the surface.

Suggested approach

The labyrinth is best attempted after Link has a reasonable supply of healing items and a method for dealing with darkness. It is possible to reach early, but rushing it can turn a navigation puzzle into a resource drain.

---

The following activities are directly associated with Akkala or use Akkala locations as their regional base.

Suggested approach: steps

  1. 01
    Activate Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower.
  2. 02
Reach the surface labyrinth and explore its routes.
  3. 03
Use nearby launch points and sky travel to reach the upper labyrinth.
  4. 04
Activate the sky-stage objectives before descending into the Depths.
  5. 05
Enter the Lomei Labyrinth Chasm and use the Depths map, lightroots and surface geography to orient yourself.
  6. 06
Prepare for a major combat encounter and collect the final reward.

Regional activity directory

The Akkala Highlands quest index records Potential Princess Sightings! at the Lucky Clover Gazette, Rock for Sale at Tarrey Town, The All-Clucking Cucco at South Akkala Stable, Bring Peace to Akkala! through Toren and Misko’s Treasure: The Fierce Deity at Cephla Lake Cave.

Regional activity directory

Potential Princess Sightings!

This is part of the Lucky Clover Gazette investigation into reports of Zelda. The regional stop is tied to Traysi and the Gazette’s wider quest chain. It should be completed as part of the broader investigation rather than treated as an isolated Akkala story.

The All-Clucking Cucco

Penn’s stable investigation at South Akkala Stable involves an unusual cucco-related incident. It is a light-hearted activity, but it is also one of the region’s useful reasons to revisit the stable after beginning the Gazette quest line.

Misko’s Treasure: The Fierce Deity

This treasure quest begins through Misko-related clues and leads to a cave-based exploration sequence. It is one of several Misko treasure activities scattered across Hyrule and should be kept separate from ordinary chest rewards. The treasure is fixed quest content, not a random drop.

Bring Peace to Akkala!

This activity involves Toren and the monster-clearing effort in Akkala. It is associated with the wider monster-control storyline and rewards Link for helping restore safer travel. The quest is listed in the Akkala Highlands activity directory.

---

Akkala’s Depths are divided into three named regional sections and include some of the province’s most unusual underground landmarks.

Akkala Highlands Depths

The Abandoned Tarrey Mine is the underground counterpart of Tarrey Town’s construction culture. It is useful for Zonaite collection and exploration.

Akkala Highlands Depths

Akkala Sea Depths

Deep Akkala Depths

The Akkala House of Bones is a large enemy location with a distinctive skeletal theme. It is separate from the surface Skull Lake and should not be treated as another name for the lake itself.

The regional directory identifies the Depths subdivisions and lists the associated mines, fortresses, chasms, Lightroots and the Akkala House of Bones as distinct entries.

---

Akkala’s ruins show Hyrule’s military history more clearly than most regions. The citadel, parade ground and bridges suggest a defensive network built to protect the north-east. In the present day, these sites are broken and overrun, while Tarrey Town represents a newer form of settlement founded through cooperation and construction rather than royal military power.

The region also demonstrates the shift from Sheikah technology in Breath of the Wild to Purah Pad research and Zonai technology in Tears of the Kingdom. The Akkala Ancient Tech Lab remains as a physical reminder of the earlier game, but its role and associated progression have changed.

Tarrey Town is likewise changed by continuity. It is no longer a settlement under construction. It has homes, shops, a stable connection, a construction yard and an established community. Link’s house and Hudson’s ongoing work make the town one of the clearest examples of permanent development between the two games.

Before attempting the Lomei complex

---

Is Tarrey Town the whole of Akkala?

No. Tarrey Town is the principal settlement in the Akkala Highlands, but Akkala also includes the Akkala Sea, Deep Akkala, the sky archipelagos and extensive Depths areas.

Is the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab in Tarrey Town?

No. It is in Deep Akkala, north-east of East Akkala Stable.

Which tower maps Akkala?

Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower maps the Akkala surface and nearby sky areas.

Are the Lomei Labyrinth locations one place?

They are one connected challenge with separate surface, sky and Depths stages. Lomei Labyrinth Island, Lomei Sky Labyrinth and Lomei Depths Labyrinth should be listed separately.

Does Akkala contain a settlement in the Depths?

The Depths include the Abandoned Tarrey Mine, but it is not a functioning surface settlement or shop district. It is an underground mine and exploration location.

Is Skull Lake part of Akkala or the Akkala Sea?

Skull Lake is a surface landmark in Deep Akkala. Skull Lake Chasm leads to the Depths, where it is associated with the Deep Akkala Depths rather than being the same location.
