Key takeaways

  • Gikaku Shrine is in the Sky Mine, above the Akkala Sea.
  • Its trial is Rauru’s Blessing, with no conventional interior puzzle.
  • The real challenge is The Sky Mine Crystal, which begins when Link examines the shrine.
  • The quest uses launch pads, a rotating central mechanism and a green crystal found on a higher mineral-covered island.
  • The shrine chest contains a Ruby.
  • The nearby spherical island contains the Zonaite Shin Guards, but that treasure is separate from the shrine reward.
  • The shrine is commonly reached from Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower using a Zonai flying vehicle or the Sky Mine’s own launch systems.

About this guide

Scope note: This guide covers Gikaku Shrine, the shrine quest directly attached to it, and the Sky Mine islands used by that quest. It does not treat the whole Akkala Sea Sky region as part of the shrine.

Overview

Gikaku Shrine is a Shrine of Light in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It is found in the Sky Mine, a group of sky islands above the Akkala Sea, and is completed through the shrine quest The Sky Mine Crystal. The shrine itself is a Rauru’s Blessing challenge, so its main puzzle is completed outside the shrine by recovering and delivering its green crystal.

The shrine is on the lowest island of the Sky Mine group. Reaching it normally involves travelling from Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower, using nearby Zonai devices, activating the Sky Mine’s launch mechanisms and transporting the crystal from a higher island. The surrounding islands contain extra equipment and a separate treasure, including the Zonaite Shin Guards, which are useful but are not required to complete Gikaku Shrine.

Overview

Gikaku Shrine is positioned on the lowest and most accessible island in the Sky Mine cluster. The shrine platform is not the real puzzle area. When Link examines the inactive shrine, a green crystal quest begins, directing him towards the higher islands of the mine.

The Sky Mine is made up of several connected quest spaces rather than one single flat island:

These areas belong to the same shrine-quest route, but they should not be confused with the broader Akkala Sea Sky region. The shrine is also separate from the surface locations beneath it, including the Akkala mainland and the surrounding sea.

Location and boundaries

Sky Mine

The Sky Mine is a set of artificial-looking sky islands above the Akkala Sea. Gikaku Shrine stands on the lowest island in the group, while the crystal and optional equipment are located on higher or neighbouring islands.

The shrine’s immediate area is recognisable by its compact landing platform and the inactive green shrine crystal mechanism. The broader mine contains Zonai machinery, launch pads and a large spherical structure. These are all relevant to the associated quest, but only the lower island is the shrine’s actual location.

Wider regional connections

The Sky Mine is part of the Akkala Sea Sky region. The most practical surface-to-sky connection is Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower, from which Link can glide towards nearby islands. The Sky Mine is not a settlement, dungeon or permanent inhabited location. It has no shops, houses, named residents or conventional services.

Areas and structures

The descriptive labels “mineral-covered sky island” and “spherical sky island” are useful guide terms for locations that are not consistently presented as formal in-game names. They should not be treated as additional named settlements or separate shrines.

Access and recommended routes

Main route from Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower

The standard approach begins at Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower. From the tower, glide towards the nearby sky islands and look for the island with a Block-type enemy and Zonai vehicle components. This island functions as the practical staging point for reaching the Sky Mine.

The exact vehicle arrangement can vary in convenience depending on Link’s battery capacity and the parts available at the time. The important point is to reach the Sky Mine staging island with enough energy or additional batteries to cross the gap.

Useful preparation

The following are helpful, although not all are mandatory:

A powered vehicle is usually safer than attempting the whole journey by gliding. If Link reaches the staging island with little stamina or battery power, he may have difficulty crossing to the mineral-covered island.

---

Main route from Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower: A workable route is

  1. 01
Launch from Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower.
  2. 02
Glide towards the nearby island with the Block-type enemy.
  3. 03
Search the island’s north-eastern side for the available Zonai vehicle.
  4. 04
Attach the nearby spare batteries to the vehicle if required.
  5. 05
Fly or steer towards the mineral-covered Sky Mine island.
  6. 06
Land on the island containing Gikaku Shrine.
  7. 07
Examine the shrine to begin The Sky Mine Crystal.

The Sky Mine Crystal

The Sky Mine Crystal is the shrine quest associated with Gikaku Shrine. It begins when Link examines the shrine and discovers that its green crystal is missing. The crystal is located on a higher island, and the objective is to bring it back to Gikaku Shrine.

Quest directory

The Mysterious Voice is not a conventional resident or visible NPC. It is the shrine-quest activation prompt associated with examining Gikaku Shrine.

1. Examine Gikaku Shrine

Land on the lowest island and interact with Gikaku Shrine. This activates The Sky Mine Crystal and causes the quest marker or guiding beam to indicate the crystal’s location.

If the shrine is examined before the rest of the machinery has been used, the quest can still be completed normally. The crystal is not permanently lost if Link drops it or fails to deliver it.

2. Activate the Sky Mine mechanism

Look for the activation switch on the island. The mechanism powers the launch system used to move between the lower and upper portions of the mine.

The launch platforms are the key to the quest. They can send Link, loose objects or the crystal between islands, but their direction must be adjusted first.

3. Use the launch pad to reach the upper section

Ride the launch pad to the upper mechanical area. The mine’s central mechanism can be rotated, allowing the launch platform to face different islands.

The guiding light indicates the general direction of the destination. Use the rotating control and the large central propeller or fan mechanism to adjust the launch platform until it points towards the island where the green crystal rests.

4. Travel to the crystal island

Launch Link towards the mineral-covered island. The flight can be made easier by:

The crystal can be moved with Ultrahand. It may also be sent through the launcher. If it falls, it should return to its original pedestal, allowing the attempt to be repeated.

5. Send the crystal down to Gikaku Shrine

Pick up the green crystal and place it on the launch platform. Aim the platform towards the lower island containing Gikaku Shrine, then launch the crystal.

This is the most awkward part of the quest because the crystal can land short of the shrine or slide from the platform. Centre it carefully before launching. If it misses, retrieve it and try again. The crystal’s return behaviour means a failed throw is inconvenient rather than permanently damaging.

6. Carry the crystal to the shrine

Glide or travel down to the shrine island, collect the crystal and carry it to the shrine’s base. Once the crystal is placed correctly, Gikaku Shrine activates and the quest is completed.

Shrine interior: Rauru’s Blessing

Gikaku Shrine’s interior is a reward chamber rather than a puzzle course. There are no combat encounters, moving-block puzzles or shrine-specific abilities to use inside.

The interior contains a short path over a void, a treasure chest and the altar. Open the chest before approaching the altar if you want to collect everything in one visit. The altar provides the usual Light of Blessing after the shrine is activated.

Rewards

The Ruby is a fixed reward rather than a random drop. The Light of Blessing contributes towards the usual shrine-based heart or stamina upgrades elsewhere in the game.

Optional treasure: Zonaite Shin Guards

The Sky Mine contains an optional chest in or beneath the spherical structure. It holds the Zonaite Shin Guards, part of the Zonaite armour set. This item is not required for The Sky Mine Crystal and is not inside Gikaku Shrine itself.

The optional treasure route involves using the launch mechanism to send a block into the spherical structure and then following it inside. A block placed on the central switch can rotate the structure, exposing a route towards the chest. From there, Link can climb, use Ascend where appropriate and glide around the exterior to reach the lower opening containing the treasure.

Suggested method

The optional route can be awkward because the entry angle matters. Saving before attempting the launch is sensible, particularly if Link is trying to enter the sphere himself.

---

Suggested method

  1. 01
Find a suitable loose block near the spherical structure.
  2. 02
Place the block centrally on the launch platform.
  3. 03
Launch the block into the sphere.
  4. 04
Enter the sphere or follow the mechanism inside.
  5. 05
Place the block on the central switch.
  6. 06
    Allow the structure to rotate.
  7. 07
Use the changed orientation to reach the lower opening.
  8. 08
Glide or descend to the chest.
  9. 09
Open the chest to obtain the Zonaite Shin Guards.

Enemies and hazards

Gikaku Shrine itself has no enemies. The surrounding Sky Mine route may involve environmental danger and nearby constructs, especially on the staging island used to reach the mine.

Verified hazards

The quest is more a test of aerial navigation and object placement than a test of combat. It is safer to stabilise the vehicle and use broad landing surfaces rather than attempting fast, low-energy jumps.

Enemy directory

The available evidence identifies the approach island as having a Block-type enemy, but the exact subtype and encounter behaviour should not be overgeneralised without a more specific map or enemy record.

---

Checkpoints and facilities

Gikaku Shrine provides the usual shrine teleport point once activated. Before activation, it functions as the destination for the shrine quest but cannot be used as a completed shrine checkpoint in the normal way.

There are no confirmed shops, beds, cooking facilities, stable services, villages or named residences within the Sky Mine. The Zonai vehicles and spare batteries are environmental equipment for the route, not a permanent shop or service.

Facilities directory

The launch pads are quest machinery rather than general-purpose businesses or permanent player facilities.

Lore and presentation

Like other Shrines of Light, Gikaku Shrine presents the familiar Rauru and Sonia altar. Its interior follows the Rauru’s Blessing format: the exterior challenge has already supplied the trial, leaving the shrine interior as a reward chamber.

The Sky Mine’s design emphasises the ancient Zonai technological language used throughout the sky islands. Its launch platforms, rotating machinery and crystal-delivery objective make the environment itself the shrine puzzle. This is why the shrine is easy once opened, but potentially difficult to reach and activate.

There is no evidence that Gikaku Shrine appeared in an earlier mainline Zelda game. Its known main appearance is The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
