Key takeaways
- Lomei Labyrinth Island is the region’s main objective Its Surface section leads into The Lomei Labyrinth Island Prophecy, with further challenges in the island’s Sky and Depths layers.
- There are two Surface Shrines Rasiwak Shrine on North Akkala Beach and Igashuk Shrine within Lomei Labyrinth Island. Game8 lists their coordinates as approximately 4666, 3257, 0001 and 4654, 3712, 0131 respectively.
- North Akkala Beach Cave is easy to overlook It has a northern entrance near Lomei Labyrinth Island and is counted separately from the island’s labyrinth areas.
- Rist Peninsula is a boundary trap It projects into Malin Bay, but its landmass is normally grouped with Akkala Highlands, not Akkala Sea.
- The region has no ordinary commercial hub For horses, cooking, general supplies and services, use East Akkala Stable, Tarrey Town or the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab outside the strict sea boundary.
- The Sky and Depths are related layers, not ordinary subareas of the Surface The Lomei Labyrinth’s sky island and chasm should be tracked separately when completing the wider Akkala map.
About this guide
Spoiler warning: This guide includes shrine, side-quest, armour and Lomei Labyrinth rewards, but does not spoil the ending of the main story.
Overview
Akkala Sea is a Surface region in north-eastern Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This guide covers the base game and treats the sea itself, its named shoreline areas and Lomei Labyrinth Island as the main scope. The Akkala Sea Sky and Akkala Sea Depths are discussed separately rather than being folded into the Surface region.
Introduction
The Akkala Sea is the broad body of water off Akkala’s north-eastern coast. It is not simply the small stretch of ocean around Lomei Labyrinth Island. The named region includes several distinct coastal areas, including East Akkala Beach, North Akkala Beach and Malin Bay, as well as the island itself. Rist Peninsula sits within Malin Bay geographically, but is generally treated as part of Akkala Highlands rather than the Akkala Sea.
In Tears of the Kingdom, the region’s main attraction is Lomei Labyrinth Island, the northernmost part of a three-part labyrinth sequence spread across the Surface, Sky and Depths. The sea also contains two Surface Shrines, a long coastal cave, several Korok puzzles and a useful route towards the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab. Unlike many mainland regions, it has no village, stable, shop or major settlement of its own.
Regional boundaries and hierarchy
The map terminology around Akkala can be confusing because the game’s large regional labels do not always match natural geography.
Included in the Akkala Sea
The following areas are treated as part of the Akkala Sea or its immediate named coastal region:
The Zelda Dungeon regional overview identifies East Akkala Beach, Lomei Labyrinth Island, Malin Bay and North Akkala Beach as the principal locations associated with the Akkala Sea in Tears of the Kingdom.
Neighbouring but separate areas
These places are close enough to cause confusion but should not be silently merged into the sea:
This distinction matters for map completion. A cave, shrine or device dispenser that is visually above or below the sea may be assigned to a different map layer and should not be used as evidence that it belongs to the Surface region.
Neighbouring but separate areas
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Rist Peninsula | enclosed by Malin Bay, but mostly classified as Akkala Highlands. |
| Akkala Ancient Tech Lab | on the mainland above the coast, associated with Deep Akkala or the wider Akkala region depending on the map source. |
| East Akkala Stable | inland from East Akkala Beach, not a sea settlement. |
| Tarrey Town | south-west across the Akkala mainland, in Akkala Highlands. |
| Akkala Highlands | the elevated mainland region south and west of the coast. |
| Akkala Sea Sky | the Sky map layer above the region. |
| Akkala Sea Depths | the underground map layer below the region. |
Geography
The Akkala Sea is a rugged coastal zone rather than an open-water travel region. Its shoreline is broken by steep cliffs, narrow beaches and the long eastern coast of Akkala. Most of the explorable content is concentrated at the edges of the water:
The sea is useful as a navigation reference. From the mainland, Lomei Labyrinth Island is visible as a large stone maze in the north-east. The island’s walls are high enough that climbing, gliding and Zonai-device transport are all practical approaches, although the exact route depends on the player’s equipment and stamina.
The region has few conventional roads. Most travel is by cliff path, paraglider, boat or improvised vehicle. The water itself is not required for most objectives, and players who try to swim directly across the whole region will spend stamina without gaining much advantage.
Named subareas directory
East Akkala Beach
The eastern shoreline of Akkala, bordering the sea. It is mainly a coastal navigation and Korok area rather than a settlement. One Korok puzzle begins on a cliff near East Akkala Beach and requires carrying or guiding the stranded Korok to its companion at North Akkala Beach.
North Akkala Beach
The northern mainland beach, north-east of the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab. It contains Rasiwak Shrine and the mainland-side access to the North Akkala Beach Cave. Rasiwak Shrine is located at the northern end of the beach.
Malin Bay
The large bay along the eastern side of Akkala. Rist Peninsula extends into the bay but is normally counted as Akkala Highlands. Malin Bay is best understood as a geographic feature within the sea region rather than a separate settlement or quest hub.
Lomei Labyrinth Island
The large maze island in the north-east sea. In Tears of the Kingdom, it contains the Surface labyrinth, Igashuk Shrine and an entrance to the Depths section of the wider Lomei challenge. Game8 identifies the island as the region’s main notable map location and places it at approximately 4654, 3542, 0089.

Access and routes
From Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower
This is usually the most convenient aerial approach for a first visit.
The tower is not inside the Akkala Sea, but it gives a strong launch point over the surrounding coast. It is especially useful before the player has unlocked convenient fast-travel points on the island.
From the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab
The lab is closer to North Akkala Beach than most mainland landmarks. Travel north or north-east along the cliffs, then descend towards the coast. This route is useful for reaching Rasiwak Shrine and the cave entrance.
Do not confuse the tech lab with a sea-region facility. It is a neighbouring mainland landmark and is not a shop or general-purpose settlement.
By water
A raft, boat or other Zonai-powered craft can reach Lomei Labyrinth Island from the coast. The sea is calm enough for basic vehicles, but a powered craft is preferable to a sail-only raft because the island is distant from the mainland and wind direction is not always helpful.
From the Sky
The Sky layer above the region provides an alternate approach to Lomei Labyrinth Island and later becomes important in the labyrinth sequence. However, the Sky section is not simply a shortcut to the Surface entrance. Treat it as a separate puzzle space with its own map marker, shrine and progression state.
Fast travel
After activating Rasiwak Shrine or Igashuk Shrine, the corresponding location can be used as a fast-travel point. This makes it practical to leave the sea, resupply elsewhere and return for the labyrinth or collectible clean-up.
From Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower
- 01Activate Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower in the Akkala Highlands.
- 02Launch from the tower and glide north-east.
- 03Aim for the mainland coast first if you need Rasiwak Shrine or North Akkala Beach Cave.
- 04Continue towards Lomei Labyrinth Island once you have enough stamina or a flying vehicle.
- 05Use the island’s upper walls and central structure as visual landmarks.
Shrines and shrine rewards
Rasiwak Shrine: Flotational Brilliance
Rasiwak Shrine is on North Akkala Beach. It is an ordinary shrine challenge rather than a blessing shrine. The puzzle centres on using floating objects and water-based movement to create a workable route. Its location makes it a valuable coastal checkpoint even if the player is not yet ready to explore Lomei Labyrinth Island.
Practical advice
Igashuk Shrine: Rauru’s Blessing
Igashuk Shrine is inside Lomei Labyrinth Island and is classified as a Rauru’s Blessing shrine. The principal challenge is reaching the shrine through the maze rather than solving a conventional shrine interior. Game8 lists the shrine at approximately 4654, 3712, 0131.
The Surface labyrinth can be approached in several ways:
Because the maze contains tall walls, conventional walking is not always the fastest method. Climbing can save time, but it consumes stamina and may leave Link exposed to attacks or awkward drops. A careful player can combine climbing with ledge-resting and short glides.
Igashuk Shrine: Rauru’s Blessing
- 01Follow the maze corridors from the island entrance.
- 02Climb the outer walls where the geometry allows it.
- 03Use the paraglider to cross sections from higher walls.
- 04Search for the central terminal and interact with it.
- 05Activate Igashuk Shrine once the route is open.
The Lomei Labyrinth Island Prophecy
Major spoiler for the region’s optional content
The Lomei Labyrinth Island Prophecy is the main side quest associated with the region. Game8 lists it at approximately 4655, 3682, 0129.
The quest is part of the game’s wider Lomei labyrinth sequence. The three labyrinth complexes are connected thematically and mechanically, but they are not one continuous physical dungeon. Lomei Labyrinth Island has:
The island therefore has more content than the Surface shrine alone suggests. Completing the Surface stage opens the path to later layers, while the Sky and Depths sections contain their own objectives and rewards. The wider sequence is associated with the labyrinth armour set, although the individual reward structure depends on which stage has been completed.
Recommended order
The Depths stage is not a routine extension of the beach. It is a separate underground environment and should be planned as a Depths expedition.
Recommended order: For a first visit
- 01Activate the nearest mainland shrine or tower.
- 02Reach Lomei Labyrinth Island.
- 03Explore the Surface maze and activate its terminal.
- 04Complete Igashuk Shrine.
- 05Prepare for aerial travel before entering the Sky section.
- 06Only enter the Depths section when you have enough Brightbloom Seeds, healing and anti-Gloom preparation.
Caves and underground access
North Akkala Beach Cave
North Akkala Beach Cave is the main named cave in the strict coastal scope. Its entrance is listed at approximately 4648, 3207, 0008.
The cave is easy to miss because it is associated with the beach rather than a large inland landmark. It is also relevant to completion-focused players because cave discovery, Bubbulfrog collection and map-location completion are separate goals.
Exploration checklist
The available cave directory independently lists North Akkala Beach Cave among the Akkala cave entrances. It also lists several other caves in the wider Akkala region, but those should not automatically be counted as Akkala Sea locations.
Korok Seeds and collectibles
The regional guide identifies three principal Korok entries for the Akkala Sea listing:
The first puzzle requires shooting five moving balloons from the island’s north-eastern wall. The second involves transporting one Korok to its friend. The third is a straightforward rock lift on the shoreline.
Korok directory
The Gemimik Shrine mentioned in the Korok entry is not part of the Akkala Sea’s Surface shrine list. It is a neighbouring landmark reference used to identify the shoreline collectible. This is a useful example of why collectible guides and region labels do not always align perfectly.
Residents, characters and services
The Akkala Sea has no named village population and no confirmed permanent shop or inn within the strict region. Most named characters associated with nearby Akkala locations belong to the mainland, especially the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, East Akkala Stable, Tarrey Town or the wider Akkala Highlands.
What the sea does not provide
Do not assume the existence of the following services merely because the coast has named landmarks:
For those services, use the nearby mainland settlements and facilities.
Factions and security
The sea itself has no organised local law-enforcement faction. Threats come from normal overworld monsters, hostile groups and environmental exposure rather than from a named coastal garrison. The maze may contain enemies and hazards, but it is an ancient structure, not an active military fort.
Enemies and hazards
Enemy placement can change with blood moons, progression and ordinary overworld respawning, so a fixed regional enemy directory should not be treated as a permanent census. The most dependable hazards are environmental:
Water and stamina
Swimming between the mainland and island consumes stamina. A failed crossing can leave Link stranded in deep water. Use a boat, floating platform, Zonai craft or a fast-travel point whenever possible.
Cliffs
The coast is heavily elevated. Falling from Akkala’s cliffs can cause damage or force a long detour. Climb from safe ledges rather than attempting a continuous ascent with a nearly empty stamina wheel.
Storms and visibility
Weather can make the island difficult to see and can complicate aerial travel. Wait for clearer conditions if you are navigating by glider without a strong launch point.
Lomei maze hazards
The labyrinth’s narrow corridors and high walls make it easy to lose orientation. Mark explored entrances, use the map frequently and consider climbing to identify the central structure. In the Sky and Depths layers, the maze’s hazards become more specialised and should be handled as separate areas.
Depths preparation
The Depths is not required to explore the Surface coast and is best attempted once Link has enough resources for a prolonged underground trip.

Lore and series appearances
The Akkala Sea is not a new geographic concept to the series. It appears as a named sea region in both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Its best-known landmark, Lomei Labyrinth Island, also returns in the sequel, although Tears of the Kingdom greatly expands the concept by adding Sky and Depths stages.
The coastal region also demonstrates the sequel’s layered-world design. In Breath of the Wild, the island’s maze was primarily a Surface challenge. In Tears of the Kingdom, the same general landmark becomes part of a vertical progression linking Surface, Sky and Depths.
