  • Its listed coordinates are approximately 4347, 2877, -0629.
  • Activating it reveals nearby Depths map data and makes the location available as a Travel Point.
  • Standing beneath an activated Lightroot helps restore hearts lost to Gloom.
  • The corresponding surface shrine, Jochi-iu Shrine, is between East Akkala Stable and the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, but those places are not part of the Lightroot’s boundaries.
  • The name follows the series-wide Lightroot naming pattern it is the reversed form of Jochi-iu.

Note

Base game guide. This page covers Ui-ihcoj Lightroot itself, not the wider Deep Akkala Depths, the surface shrine above it, or the nearby Akkala landmarks except where they are useful for navigation.

Overview

Ui-ihcoj Lightroot is a Lightroot in the Deep Akkala Depths in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It is the Depths counterpart of Jochi-iu Shrine, located on the surface in the North Akkala Foothill. Activating it illuminates the surrounding section of the Depths map, creates a fast-travel point and restores hearts damaged by Gloom while Link stands beneath its light.

The Lightroot is not a dungeon, settlement or self-contained puzzle area. Its primary purpose is exploration infrastructure. There are no verified named residents, shops, quests, shrine puzzles or unique structures belonging to the Lightroot itself. The nearby surface shrine and the wider Deep Akkala Depths are separate locations and should not be treated as subareas of Ui-ihcoj Lightroot.

Overview and boundaries

Ui-ihcoj Lightroot consists of the Lightroot structure and its immediate illuminated surroundings in the Depths. It belongs to the Deep Akkala Depths region. The regional category also includes other places, such as Akkala House of Bones, Rok Grove and Skull Lake Chasm, but these are neighbouring or regional locations rather than parts of Ui-ihcoj Lightroot.

The Lightroot has no separately documented interior, attached mine, named cavern, settlement or mission-only chamber. In practical terms, the location’s boundary is the area around the Lightroot pedestal that becomes visible and navigable after activation.

Not included as subareas

The following are connected by geography or map correspondence, but are separate locations:

This distinction matters because the surface shrine has its own puzzle, treasure chests and Light of Blessing. Those rewards do not come from activating Ui-ihcoj Lightroot.

Geography and position

Ui-ihcoj Lightroot is located in the eastern part of Hyrule’s Depths, in the Deep Akkala sector. Its approximate coordinates are:

The coordinate listing places it far below the surface location of Jochi-iu Shrine, whose surface coordinates are approximately 4347, 2876, 0179.

As with other Lightroots, the surface and Depths locations are paired by map position rather than by a directly walkable shaft between them. A Lightroot does not function as a physical extension of the shrine above it. Instead, the two locations occupy corresponding positions on separate map layers.

Regional directory

Verified named locations in the relevant Deep Akkala category include:

Only Ui-ihcoj Lightroot is covered as the subject of this guide. The other entries are neighbouring or broader regional locations, not child areas of the Lightroot.

Surface counterpart: Jochi-iu Shrine

Ui-ihcoj Lightroot corresponds to Jochi-iu Shrine, also known as Courage to Pluck, on the surface. The shrine is located in the North Akkala Foothill, between East Akkala Stable and the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab.

The pairing is also visible in the names:

The Lightroot name reverses the letters of the shrine name, a naming convention used throughout the Depths. This is useful when searching for an unactivated Lightroot: comparing surface shrine names with the Depths map can reveal the corresponding location.

Access and routes

Reaching the Lightroot from the Depths

The most reliable route is to enter the Depths through a nearby chasm and travel towards the Deep Akkala sector using Brightbloom Seeds, Zonai devices and existing Lightroots as navigation points.

Because the Depths are dark before activation, prepare the following:

The exact route depends on which chasms and Lightroots the player has already activated. Ui-ihcoj Lightroot itself does not have a documented locked entrance, quest requirement or special progression condition.

Reaching it from the surface

There is no direct surface entrance through Jochi-iu Shrine. The shrine and Lightroot are counterparts on different map layers. To reach Ui-ihcoj Lightroot, Link must enter the Depths through a chasm or fast-travel to an already activated Depths Travel Point.

Practical route planning

The surface-to-Depths correspondence is especially useful here because Jochi-iu Shrine provides a reliable map reference for locating Ui-ihcoj Lightroot.

---

Practical route planning: A sensible exploration approach is

  1. 01
Activate a nearby surface shrine if it is still missing from the map.
  2. 02
Switch to the Depths map and check for the reversed-name Lightroot.
  3. 03
Travel through the Depths from the nearest known Lightroot rather than crossing the entire region in darkness.
  4. 04
Mark the destination before descending through a chasm.
  5. 05
Use Brightbloom Seeds to identify walls, cliffs and possible enemy camps.
  6. 06
Activate Ui-ihcoj Lightroot as soon as it is reached.
  7. 07
Use the newly created Travel Point to return later for nearby Depths exploration.

Functions and services

Map illumination

Activating Ui-ihcoj Lightroot illuminates the surrounding area on the Depths map. The amount of revealed terrain depends on the Lightroot’s position and the surrounding geography. Lightroots are not equivalent to Skyview Towers: they reveal a local section of the Depths rather than the entire regional map.

Travel Point

Once activated, Ui-ihcoj Lightroot becomes a Travel Point. This allows Link to fast-travel back to the location from the map, provided fast travel is available. It is therefore useful even when the surrounding area contains no special reward.

Gloom recovery

Standing beneath an activated Lightroot restores hearts that have been damaged by Gloom. This does not replace meals or elixirs for ordinary healing, but it provides a convenient recovery point during long Depths expeditions.

A practical method is to return to the Lightroot after:

No shop or crafting service

No shop, merchant, forge, bed, cooking pot or other named service is documented as part of Ui-ihcoj Lightroot. Do not assume that the presence of a Lightroot implies a settlement or supply point.

---

Items, collectibles and rewards

Individual Lightroot reward

Ui-ihcoj Lightroot has no separately recorded treasure chest, weapon, armour piece, crystal, shrine reward or quest reward attached to its activation.

Completion reward for all Lightroots

Activating every Lightroot in the game awards the Dispelling Darkness Medal. This is a cumulative completion reward, not an item granted specifically by Ui-ihcoj Lightroot. The medal has no practical gameplay function beyond recording the achievement.

Nearby but separate rewards

The following items belong to Jochi-iu Shrine rather than the Lightroot:

The shrine’s rewards should therefore be recorded separately in a completion checklist.

Nearby but separate rewards

Enemies and hazards

No enemy encounter is uniquely associated with the Lightroot pedestal itself. However, the surrounding Deep Akkala Depths may contain the ordinary environmental hazards and hostile encounters expected in the region.

Because the Lightroot itself is a safe navigation and recovery facility, it is often better to activate it before investigating nearby structures or enemy groups.

Walkthrough: activating Ui-ihcoj Lightroot: steps

  1. 01
Enter the Depths. Descend through a suitable chasm and orient yourself towards the Deep Akkala region.
  2. 02
Use the map counterpart. If Jochi-iu Shrine is already visible on the surface map, look for its reversed-name counterpart, Ui-ihcoj Lightroot, on the Depths map.
  3. 03
Illuminate the route. Fire Brightbloom Seeds into the darkness and use nearby activated Lightroots as waypoints.
  4. 04
Approach carefully. Watch for cliffs, Gloom-covered ground and hostile encounters around the destination.
  5. 05
Activate the Lightroot. Interact with the Lightroot when you reach its base.
  6. 06
Confirm the map update. The surrounding area should become visible on the Depths map.
  7. 07
Use the recovery effect. Stand beneath the Lightroot if Link has suffered Gloom damage.
  8. 08
Fast-travel away or continue exploring. Ui-ihcoj Lightroot is now available as a Travel Point.

Exploration checklist

Use this checklist when recording Ui-ihcoj Lightroot as complete:

---

Lore and naming

Lightroots are large luminous plants found throughout the Depths. They provide light in a region where surface illumination does not reach and are paired with Shrines of Light on the surface. Their names are anadromes of their corresponding shrine names, which explains the relationship between Ui-ihcoj and Jochi-iu.

Ui-ihcoj Lightroot therefore illustrates two of the game’s major exploration systems:

The pairing is a navigational convention rather than a statement that the shrine and Lightroot are physically connected.

---

Lore and naming: steps

  1. 01
Surface shrine and Depths Lightroot correspondence.
  2. 02
Map completion through paired locations across Hyrule’s vertical layers.
