Key takeaways

  • Location Gerudo Highlands Depths.
  • Surface counterpart Mayamats Shrine. The names are reversals of one another, as with most Shrine–Lightroot pairs.
  • Approximate coordinates −4638, −1512, −0890. Some guides record the vertical coordinate slightly differently, including −0911 or −0891, so use the map position rather than relying on the final coordinate alone.
  • Main reward A newly revealed section of the Depths map and a permanent Travel Gate.
  • No confirmed unique subarea The named location itself is the Lightroot and its immediate illuminated ground. It should not be expanded to include the nearby Gerudo Highlands Depths or adjacent Lightroots.
  • Best preparation Bring Brightbloom Seeds, a few Gloom-recovery meals or Sundelion-based meals, and enough stamina for a long glide if approaching from a distant chasm.

Note

Base game guide. This page covers Stamayam Lightroot as a single location in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It does not merge the Lightroot with its surface counterpart, nearby Gerudo Highlands Depths locations, or the wider Gerudo Depths region.

Overview

Stamayam Lightroot is a Lightroot in the Gerudo Highlands Depths, in the south-western part of the Depths map. It lies beneath Mayamats Shrine on the surface and serves the usual Lightroot functions: revealing nearby Depths terrain, creating a fast-travel point, illuminating the surrounding area and restoring health capacity lost to Gloom while Link stands within its light.

The location is not a settlement, mine, dungeon or quest hub. Its importance is practical rather than narrative. Stamayam is a remote navigation point on the western side of the Gerudo Highlands Depths, and activating it makes future journeys through this dark, uneven section of the Depths considerably easier.

Location and boundaries

Stamayam Lightroot stands in the western Gerudo Highlands portion of the Depths. The relevant boundary is small:

Not part of Stamayam Lightroot

The following should be treated as neighbouring or related places rather than included sections:

This distinction matters because the Lightroot does not contain a town, mine complex, named road, inn, shop, stable or resident population. It is a point facility within the Depths rather than a broad explorable district.

Surface counterpart: Mayamats Shrine

Stamayam Lightroot corresponds to Mayamats Shrine, whose name is the reverse of “Stamayam”. This reversal is a useful way to identify the surface location of an undiscovered Lightroot. Lightroots generally sit beneath surface Shrines, although the relationship is not a promise that every Shrine has a directly accessible vertical route down to its Lightroot.

Mayamats Shrine is a separate surface location with its own shrine challenge. Completing that shrine does not activate Stamayam Lightroot, and activating Stamayam does not complete the shrine. The two locations are linked geographically and by name, but they remain separate facilities.

What Stamayam Lightroot does: steps

  1. 01
Permanent illumination The Lightroot casts light across the nearby terrain, reducing the need to fire Brightbloom Seeds repeatedly.

What Stamayam Lightroot does: steps

  1. 01
Fast travel The activated Lightroot becomes a Travel Gate that can be selected from the Depths map.

What Stamayam Lightroot does: steps

  1. 01
Gloom recovery Standing beneath an activated Lightroot restores the ability to use hearts that have been damaged by Gloom. This does not function like a normal healing item and does not replace ordinary healing for missing health.

What Stamayam Lightroot does: steps

  1. 01
Completion tracking Stamayam counts towards the total number of activated Lightroots. Activating all Lightroots awards the Dispelling Darkness Medal, a completion reward with no combat or traversal function.

How to find Stamayam Lightroot

If Mayamats Shrine is already visible on the surface map, switch to the Depths layer and place a marker at the corresponding position. The Lightroot should appear directly below or very close to that location.

The letters are reversed, following the game’s Shrine–Lightroot naming pattern.

General route

Because the Gerudo Highlands Depths contain large vertical differences, the horizontal coordinates are usually more useful than the final vertical value. Published guides do not agree perfectly on the Z coordinate. Zelda Dungeon lists −4638, −1512, −0911, while other location lists give −4638, −1512, −0890 or −4633, −1500, −0891. These differences are small enough to be explained by map-marker placement, travel-gate positioning or guide transcription.

If the Lightroot appears unreachable

A common source of confusion is assuming that the surface Shrine must have an open chasm immediately above the Lightroot. That is not necessarily true. The Depths are divided by cliffs, ceilings, gloom walls and isolated landforms, so the direct route may be blocked even when the two locations line up on the map.

The Lightroot’s map position is more reliable than searching for a supposed surface hole exactly above it.

Recommended method: use Mayamats Shrine as the surface reference: The name relationship is especially useful

General route

  1. 01
Travel to a suitable chasm leading into the western or south-western Depths.
  2. 02
Enter the Depths with Brightbloom Seeds equipped.
  3. 03
Use the surface map and Depths map together to maintain the bearing towards approximately −4638, −1512, −0890.
  4. 04
Fire Brightbloom Seeds along the route, particularly when moving away from the light of another Lightroot.
  5. 05
Avoid wasting stamina by gliding across every gap. In the Depths, a short walk around a wall or ridge is often safer than attempting a marginal glide.
  6. 06
Activate Stamayam as soon as it is visible.
  7. 07
Use the newly created Travel Gate to return later if the surrounding area is still unexplored.

Navigation and nearby connections

Stamayam is best understood as part of a chain of Gerudo-region Depths checkpoints. It is not a central transport hub, but its activation gives you a useful western anchor for exploration.

Useful neighbouring Lightroots

The following locations are in the same broad Gerudo Highlands Depths grouping, but each is a separate Lightroot:

A regional list places Stamayam among the Gerudo Highlands Depths Lightroots, while broader Lightroot directories place the same group within the Gerudo area.

Suggested exploration route

For a first visit, the safest progression is:

For completionists, activate every nearby Lightroot before hunting for smaller discoveries. The map illumination makes it much easier to distinguish unexplored terrain from inaccessible terrain.

Useful neighbouring Lightroots

Suggested exploration route

  1. 01
Enter the Depths through a chasm that gives access to the western Gerudo region.
  2. 02
Activate any nearby Lightroot before crossing unlit terrain.
  3. 03
Use Stamayam as a western checkpoint.
  4. 04
From Stamayam, explore outward only after checking the newly revealed map for cliffs and large gaps.
  5. 05
Return to Stamayam to recover from Gloom damage and restock your route with a fast-travel point.
  6. 06
Continue towards the next regional Lightroot rather than attempting to fully clear every dark corner in one trip.

Hazards

The location has the ordinary dangers of the Depths rather than a unique Stamayam-specific hazard.

Gloom

Gloom can reduce Link’s maximum usable hearts. The activated Lightroot provides a safe recovery point for this damage. Bring Sundelion meals or other Gloom-recovery options if you plan to travel a long distance before returning to the Lightroot.

Darkness

Before activation, the area may be difficult to read even when the map position is correct. Brightbloom Seeds are the most dependable way to mark the route. Attach them to arrows for distant illumination, or throw them when you are close to a wall, ledge or cave floor.

Vertical terrain

The Z coordinate is substantially below the surface. A route that looks short on the map may involve a tall cliff, a ceiling, a deep ravine or a detour around a raised island. Keep stamina available for climbing and gliding, but do not assume that a straight line is possible.

Enemies

No unique enemy or boss is documented as belonging specifically to Stamayam Lightroot. Ordinary Depths enemies may appear on the surrounding route depending on the exact approach and the state of the area, but they should not be presented as fixed Stamayam encounters without location-specific confirmation.

Items and collectibles

Confirmed fixed rewards

There is no verified unique treasure reward attached to Stamayam Lightroot itself in the sources consulted.

Nearby discoveries

The wider Gerudo Highlands Depths may contain Zonaite, materials, chests, enemy camps, Poes and other collectible objects. These are regional Depths content, not automatically part of Stamayam Lightroot. Their positions should be checked against a dedicated map or the exact neighbouring location page before being added to this guide.

Completion reward

Stamayam contributes to the all-Lightroot objective. Activating all Lightroots awards the Dispelling Darkness Medal. The medal is a completion token rather than an item that improves Link’s abilities.

---

Missions and progression

No quest is verified as starting at, ending at or requiring Stamayam Lightroot specifically.

The Lightroot is available as ordinary exploration content. It does not require:

The only practical progression requirement is reaching the Depths and surviving the route. You need access to the Depths and enough light, stamina and healing resources to travel there.

Progression changes

Stamayam’s function does not change between ordinary exploration and late-game progression:

---

Comprehensive named directory

Separate nearby or regional Lightroots

These names belong to the surrounding Gerudo-region Lightroot network, not to Stamayam Lightroot as subareas:

The regional directory is included to clarify connections and boundaries. It should not be read as evidence that all of these sites are physically inside Stamayam’s immediate area.
