About this guide
Spoilers: This guide covers the Depths, nearby Yiga Clan activity, and the Surface location linked to the Lightroot.
Overview
Kawiraus Lightroot is a small but useful Depths landmark in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It lies in the Gerudo Highlands Depths, north-east of the Abandoned Kara Kara Mine, and serves primarily as a fast-travel point and source of light for the surrounding underground area. Its Surface counterpart is Suariwak Shrine, located inside the Yiga Blademaster Station.
The Lightroot itself has no dungeon, shop, resident or dedicated quest. Its importance comes from its position: it sits close to a Yiga Clan Depths base containing the Fanboat Schema, and it provides a convenient waypoint for exploring the mines, chasms and enemy-held territory around western Gerudo.
Name and scope
The name is Kawiraus Lightroot, not “KawirauS Lightroot”. The final letter is normally written in lower-case in English. The location is treated as a single Lightroot rather than a broad named settlement or district.
This guide covers the Lightroot platform and the immediately associated landmarks that are useful when navigating to or from it. It does not merge the whole Gerudo Highlands Depths into Kawiraus Lightroot. Nearby places such as the Abandoned Kara Kara Mine, the Yiga Clan Depths Base and the Flux Construct arena remain separate locations.
The wider Gerudo Highlands Depths includes several other Lightroots, including Jadukakar Lightroot, Kawatik Lightroot, Kimakarut Lightroot, Mustuto Lightroot, Sisustom Lightroot, Stamayam Lightroot and Umamustor Lightroot. These are neighbouring regional locations, not subareas of Kawiraus Lightroot.
Location and geography
Kawiraus Lightroot stands on the floor of the Depths in a relatively open section of the Gerudo underground. The surrounding terrain is dark, uneven and broken up by cliffs, water and mine-like formations. Once activated, the Lightroot reveals the immediate area, making nearby routes and terrain much easier to read.
The Lightroot is therefore best understood as a junction waypoint between the mine areas around Kara Kara and the Yiga-controlled spaces farther west. It is not itself a mine, base or settlement.
The most useful orientation points are
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Abandoned Kara Kara Mine | south-west or west-south-west of the Lightroot, depending on the exact route taken. |
| Yiga Clan Depths Base | beside a lake to the west-north-west. |
| Birida Lookout Chasm | further west, at the bottom of the chasm. |
| Umamustor Lightroot | far away near the bottom of Yiga Clan Hideout Chasm, and reportedly visible from Kawiraus Lightroot in suitable conditions. |
| Flux Construct I arena | north-east of Kawiraus Lightroot. |
The Lightroot
Activating Kawiraus Lightroot has the normal Lightroot effects:
As with other Lightroots, it does not function as a shop, bed, cooking station or equipment service. Its practical value is exploration and travel rather than commerce or quest progression. The Lightroot also does not appear to have a unique reward chest or named attendant associated with it.
Directory: features at Kawiraus Lightroot
The Lightroot’s documented uses are to brighten the surrounding area, provide a Travel Gate and restore normal heart-container functionality where Gloom is otherwise interfering with recovery.
The Lightroot: steps
- 01It illuminates the surrounding Depths.
- 02It reveals the corresponding portion of the Depths map.
- 03It becomes a fast-travel point.
- 04It provides a safe navigation landmark in an otherwise dark area.

How to reach Kawiraus Lightroot
From the Depths
The most direct approach is to enter the Depths through a nearby chasm and travel towards the Gerudo Highlands underground region. Because the surrounding map may be unlit, it is sensible to carry:
From the Abandoned Kara Kara Mine, travel north-east towards the Lightroot. The mine is a useful staging point because its structures and open underground routes are easier to identify than the unlit wilderness.
From the western side, the Lightroot can be approached from the area around the Yiga Clan Depths Base. This route is more dangerous because the base is an enemy-controlled location and may require fighting or stealth.
From the Surface
There is no direct surface entrance immediately at the Lightroot. The Surface location that corresponds to it is Suariwak Shrine, found inside Yiga Blademaster Station. Lightroots and Shrines are paired by position, with the Lightroot below the shrine’s Surface location.
This relationship is useful when searching the map:
Surface counterpart: Suariwak Shrine
Suariwak Shrine is the Surface counterpart to Kawiraus Lightroot. It is associated with the Yiga Blademaster Station, placing it within Yiga Clan territory rather than in a neutral open-world shrine location.
This distinction matters for progression. Reaching the shrine is not simply a matter of climbing to a visible shrine entrance. The player must deal with the surrounding Yiga-related access conditions and station interior. Kawiraus Lightroot itself does not unlock or complete Suariwak Shrine, and activating the Lightroot does not replace the Surface shrine challenge.
Directory: linked Surface location
The two locations are counterparts, not a single combined dungeon. The shrine belongs to the Surface and the Lightroot belongs to the Depths.

Nearby Yiga Clan Depths Base
A Yiga Clan base lies beside a lake west-north-west of Kawiraus Lightroot. The base is a separate location, but it is close enough to be one of the most important reasons to activate the Lightroot. The illuminated area makes it easier to approach the camp, identify enemy positions and retreat if the fight becomes dangerous.
The base contains the Fanboat Schema, one of the Yiga-related Autobuild schematics found in the Depths. Once obtained, the schematic allows the player to recreate a fan-powered boat design through Autobuild, provided the required materials or Zonaite are available.
The Fanboat Schema is not a reward from Kawiraus Lightroot itself. It belongs to the nearby Yiga base. Treating the base as part of the Lightroot would incorrectly merge two separate locations.
Directory: nearby Yiga location and reward
The available evidence confirms the base and its Fanboat Schema, but does not establish a separate named NPC, shop, inn or permanent service operating at the camp.
Suggested approach to the base
- 01Activate Kawiraus Lightroot first if possible.
- 02Mark the nearby lake and Yiga camp on the map.
- 03Approach from a ridge or elevated path so that the camp layout is visible.
- 04Use Brightbloom Seeds to light the approach without committing to a fight.
- 05Decide whether to infiltrate or defeat the Yiga members.
- 06Search the base for its schematic reward.
- 07Use the Lightroot as the return point if Gloom damage or enemy pressure makes the route unsafe.
Nearby enemies and combat
Yiga Clan members
The nearby Yiga base is the main organised enemy presence associated with Kawiraus Lightroot. The exact encounter composition can depend on the base’s layout and the player’s approach, but the location is clearly a Yiga-controlled facility rather than a neutral camp.
The Lightroot is especially valuable before attempting the base because it:
Flux Construct I
A Flux Construct I is located north-east of Kawiraus Lightroot. The listed coordinates for the encounter are approximately (-2195, -1521, -0686), described as being in the Depths north-east of the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower area and north-east of Kawiraus Lightroot.
This is a separate combat arena, not a boss encounter located on the Lightroot platform. The fight rewards the usual Flux Construct materials and Zonai-related drops associated with defeating a Flux Construct, but the available location evidence does not identify a unique Kawiraus-specific reward.
Combat checklist
Before heading north-east for the Flux Construct, consider carrying:
The exact arena approach can be easier after activating Kawiraus Lightroot, since the illuminated map reduces the risk of walking into chasms or Gloom pools while trying to locate the construct.
Nearby connections
Abandoned Kara Kara Mine
The Abandoned Kara Kara Mine is the main mining landmark near Kawiraus Lightroot. It is a separate Depths location and should not be counted as part of the Lightroot’s immediate platform.
The mine is useful as a route marker and staging area. Players travelling from the Gerudo side of the Depths may naturally pass through it before reaching Kawiraus Lightroot. It can also provide mining materials and underground cover, although the exact resources encountered may vary by location and respawn state.
Birida Lookout Chasm
The bottom of Birida Lookout Chasm lies to the west, beyond the Yiga base area. It is another separate access point to the Gerudo Highlands Depths. Because chasms are vertical entrances, the practical route from the bottom may not follow a direct straight line on the map.
Yiga Clan Hideout Chasm and Umamustor Lightroot
The Yiga Clan Hideout Chasm and Umamustor Lightroot belong to the western Gerudo Depths. Umamustor Lightroot is not a subarea of Kawiraus Lightroot, although it may be visible in the distance from Kawiraus under suitable conditions.

Recommended exploration route
For a first visit, the following order keeps navigation and risk manageable:
This route prioritises map visibility and fast travel. Players who are under-equipped for the Depths can activate the Lightroot first, leave to resupply, then return through fast travel before tackling the Yiga base or Flux Construct.
Recommended exploration route: steps
- 01Enter the Gerudo Highlands Depths through a suitable chasm.
- 02Locate the Abandoned Kara Kara Mine and use it as a staging point.
- 03Travel north-east to Kawiraus Lightroot, marking the route with Brightbloom Seeds.
- 04Activate the Lightroot before exploring the surrounding camps.
- 05Visit the Yiga Clan Depths Base to the west-north-west.
- 06Claim the Fanboat Schema from the base.
- 07Return to Kawiraus Lightroot if necessary.
- 08Travel north-east to the Flux Construct I for the optional combat encounter.
- 09Continue towards other Gerudo Highlands Lightroots, rather than treating Kawiraus as the endpoint of the region.
What Kawiraus Lightroot does not contain
The following should not be attributed to Kawiraus Lightroot without additional evidence:
The Fanboat Schema belongs to the nearby Yiga Clan Depths Base, while the Flux Construct I belongs to its own north-eastern arena. Suariwak Shrine is likewise a separate Surface location.
