Introduction

Nihcayam Lightroot is a Lightroot in the Central Hyrule Depths, positioned beneath the Exchange Ruins and the surface’s Mayachin Shrine. It is one of the useful early-to-mid Depths checkpoints around the Hyrule Field and Great Plateau approaches.

The Lightroot is not a settlement or a broad named region. Its scope is limited to the Lightroot itself and the immediately surrounding Depths terrain. Nearby locations such as Daphnes Canyon Mine, Nogukoyk Lightroot, Iayusus Lightroot and the Great Plateau North Chasm are separate places, although they form practical routes around Nihcayam Lightroot.

Nihcayam’s main value is navigational. Activating it illuminates part of the surrounding Depths map, creates a fast-travel point and restores Link’s normal visibility in the area. It is also a useful waypoint when travelling between the northern Central Hyrule Depths, the Great Abandoned Central Mine and the southern routes leading towards the Great Plateau.

---

Included within the location

Nearby but separate

This distinction matters because the Lightroot does not contain the activities, enemies or rewards associated with every nearby landmark. For example, a mine encountered during a route from Nihcayam is not automatically part of Nihcayam Lightroot.

---

Lightroots are fixed facilities found throughout the Depths. Interacting with Nihcayam Lightroot provides three practical benefits.

Nearby but separate

1. It illuminates the surrounding Depths

Before activation, the nearby Depths are covered by darkness. Activating Nihcayam reveals the surrounding map area and makes exploration safer. The revealed area is not the entire Central Hyrule Depths, so further Lightroots are still needed to complete the regional map.

The amount of map revealed depends on the Lightroot’s position and the surrounding terrain. Large cliffs, isolated caverns and extreme elevation changes can make the visible boundary appear irregular.

2. It creates a fast-travel point

Once activated, Nihcayam Lightroot becomes a Travel Gate. Link can return to it from the surface, the Sky or other activated fast-travel points, provided fast travel is available.

3. It restores visibility and helps with gloom damage

The glow from a Lightroot makes the surrounding area easier to navigate. Like other active Lightroots, it also provides the normal Lightroot benefit of restoring hearts damaged by gloom while Link is within its influence. This is particularly useful after crossing gloom-covered ground or fighting gloom-affected enemies nearby.

The root does not function as a shop, bed, cooking station or armour service.

Route 1: From Hyrule Field Chasm

This is the most direct approach for many players exploring the Central Hyrule Depths.

This route is convenient if Link is already investigating the Hyrule Field Chasm or travelling between the Hyrule Field and Great Plateau areas.

Route 1: From Hyrule Field Chasm: steps

  1. 01
Enter the Depths through Hyrule Field Chasm.
  2. 02
Use Brightbloom Seeds immediately after landing, unless the surrounding map is already illuminated.
  3. 03
Locate the nearest activated Lightroot or follow the visible glowing root structure.
  4. 04
Travel generally towards the south-western side of the Hyrule Field Depths.
  5. 05
Watch for gloom-covered ground, walls and isolated enemy groups.
  6. 06
Activate Nihcayam Lightroot when you reach the platform.

Route 2: From Great Plateau North Chasm

The Great Plateau North Chasm provides another approach from the south.

This approach can be more awkward if the surrounding map is dark, because the Depths terrain includes uneven walls and large unlit stretches. A stock of Brightbloom Seeds is strongly recommended.

Route 2: From Great Plateau North Chasm: steps

  1. 01
Descend through Great Plateau North Chasm.
  2. 02
Use a paraglider, Zonai vehicle or climbing route to avoid unnecessary gloom.
  3. 03
Travel north or north-east according to the currently revealed map.
  4. 04
Use nearby Lightroots as intermediate fast-travel points if they have already been activated.
  5. 05
    Continue towards Nihcayam Lightroot.

Route 3: From another Central Hyrule Lightroot

If Nihcayam is being activated as part of a larger Depths expedition, it can be approached from nearby roots such as:

The precise route depends on which sections of the map have already been illuminated. The safest method is to use the Depths map, place a marker at Nihcayam’s position and follow illuminated terrain rather than attempting to cross large unlit areas directly.

---

Nihcayam is not mechanically complicated, but reaching it can be dangerous if it is one of the player’s first Depths destinations.

Route 3: From another Central Hyrule Lightroot

Bring light sources

Throwing or firing a Brightbloom Seed is usually more efficient than walking through darkness while searching for the root.

Avoid unnecessary gloom exposure

The area around Central Hyrule contains patches of gloom that can reduce Link’s maximum hearts. If a direct path crosses a large gloom field, climb around it, use a vehicle or look for a raised route.

The Lightroot can help restore gloom-damaged hearts once activated, but it does not make the journey to the root harmless.

Use height to scout

The root’s glow can often be seen from a distance once Link has entered the correct cavern. Climbing a nearby wall or using a balloon, wing or hoverbike can make the glowing structure easier to identify.

Mark the root before descending

If travelling from the surface, place a map marker on the corresponding surface shrine or use the surface map as a positional reference. The direct vertical relationship between Mayachin Shrine and Nihcayam Lightroot is one of the most reliable ways to locate it.

---

Nihcayam Lightroot corresponds to Mayachin Shrine, a Shrine of Light located at the Exchange Ruins. Mayachin Shrine is north of Hyrule Field Skyview Tower and is commonly used as the surface reference for finding the Depths Lightroot.

The two locations belong to different world layers and should not be treated as one combined dungeon or settlement:

Mayachin Shrine’s puzzle is titled A Fixed Device. Completing it rewards a Light of Blessing, while an optional chest contains an Energizing Elixir according to the researched shrine listing. The shrine’s puzzle content is not part of Nihcayam Lightroot itself.

The correspondence is nevertheless useful. If the player can identify Mayachin Shrine on the surface map, they can estimate Nihcayam Lightroot’s location on the Depths map.

Daphnes Canyon Mine

Daphnes Canyon Mine is one of the most important nearby landmarks. It is a separate Depths location rather than a subarea of Nihcayam Lightroot.

A route passing between Nihcayam Lightroot and Daphnes Canyon Mine is a sensible use of the Lightroot’s Travel Gate. Activate Nihcayam first if the area is still dark, then explore towards the mine while using the revealed map to avoid dead ends.

The exact route can vary because the Depths have steep walls, gloom pools and blocked passages. Do not assume that a straight line on the map is a walkable route.

Great Abandoned Central Mine

The Great Abandoned Central Mine lies in the broader Central Hyrule Depths and is associated with major early-Depths progression, including the A Mystery in the Depths quest line and the acquisition of Autobuild.

Nihcayam Lightroot can serve as one of the waypoints on a journey towards the mine, but the mine is not included within Nihcayam Lightroot’s boundaries. A player travelling south from a Central Hyrule route may pass through the general vicinity of Nihcayam before continuing towards the mine.

Hyrule Field Chasm

Hyrule Field Chasm is a major surface entrance to the Depths. It is one of the most practical starting points for reaching Nihcayam Lightroot and for beginning Central Hyrule Depths exploration.

The chasm, the descent area and the surrounding Depths are distinct locations. Activating a Lightroot does not activate the chasm or reveal every nearby underground landmark.

Great Plateau North Chasm

The Great Plateau North Chasm offers a southern approach. It is useful when the player is exploring the Great Plateau or travelling between the Plateau’s surface routes and the Central Hyrule Depths.

---

Nihcayam Lightroot has no documented permanent resident, settlement, shop or ordinary NPC attached to it.

Named directory

Not present as a dedicated feature

This list describes the Lightroot itself, not the larger Central Hyrule Depths. Nearby mines, chasms and quest locations may contain additional facilities or characters.

---

The Lightroot platform is primarily a navigation facility. Enemy encounters are associated with the surrounding Depths rather than with the root as a special combat arena.

Enemy placement can also depend on whether the player is travelling through a specific nearby landmark. The presence of an enemy elsewhere in the Central Hyrule Depths should not be attributed to Nihcayam Lightroot without a location-specific source.

---

Guaranteed reward from the Lightroot

There is no separate treasure chest reward documented as belonging to the Lightroot platform itself.

Nearby exploration rewards

The surrounding Central Hyrule Depths may contain Zonaite, ore deposits, enemy drops, chests and other collectibles. These belong to their individual placements and neighbouring landmarks, not automatically to Nihcayam Lightroot.

---

For a first visit, the following order keeps the expedition practical:

---

Nihcayam Lightroot is available from the point at which Link can enter the Depths. It is not locked behind a specific dungeon, Sage ability or story completion state.

It is permanently activatable and is not missable in the normal sense. The player can return to it at any time after discovering the location.

The main progression-related limitation is practical rather than scripted:

---

The name Nihcayam follows the naming pattern used for many Lightroots. Its name is also closely related to the name of its surface counterpart, Mayachin Shrine, reflecting the reversed or rearranged naming relationship between many surface Shrines and Depths Lightroots.

Nihcayam does not have an individual story scene, named caretaker or separate historical explanation. Its importance is systemic: it is one component of the Depths-wide Lightroot network that allows Link to gradually reclaim the underground map.
