Overview

Nogukoyk Lightroot is a small but useful landmark in the Central Hyrule Depths. It stands beneath the northern Great Plateau area, close to the Great Abandoned Central Mine and southwest of the Great Plateau North Chasm. Activating it illuminates the surrounding section of the Depths map and permanently adds the Lightroot as a fast-travel destination. Its surface counterpart is Kyokugon Shrine, whose position can be used to locate Nogukoyk Lightroot even before the surrounding underground map has been revealed.

Nogukoyk Lightroot itself is not a settlement, dungeon or quest hub. It has no named residents, shop, forge, inn, stable or dedicated boss encounter recorded as part of the location. Its importance is practical: it provides a safe navigation point between the Great Plateau approaches, the Great Abandoned Central Mine and the surrounding Central Hyrule Depths.

Boundaries and location hierarchy

Nogukoyk Lightroot should be treated as a single Lightroot landmark, not as the name of a broad underground district. The wider area belongs to the Central Hyrule Depths. Nearby places such as the Great Abandoned Central Mine, Koradat Lightroot, Nuzimak Lightroot and the Great Plateau North Chasm are separate locations and should not be folded into Nogukoyk Lightroot’s boundaries. Regional listings place Nogukoyk among the Central Hyrule Lightroots and separately list the Great Abandoned Central Mine and other nearby landmarks.

The verified named feature within the strict scope of Nogukoyk Lightroot is:

Nearby but separate locations

These are useful for navigation, but are not subareas of the Lightroot:

The Great Abandoned Central Mine lies nearby and is one of the most important landmarks in this part of the Depths. It contains major quest content connected with Master Kohga and the Yiga Clan, but that content belongs to the mine, not to Nogukoyk Lightroot.

Geography and surroundings

Nogukoyk Lightroot is positioned in a relatively open part of the Central Hyrule Depths. It is not inside the mine complex, nor is it described as occupying a cavern, fortress or named grove. Its location is particularly useful because it sits in the same broad underground region as the Great Abandoned Central Mine and within reach of the Great Plateau surface approaches.

The Depths mirror the surface in a broad geographical sense. Lightroots are placed below surface Shrines of Light, and the names are generally reversed versions of their corresponding shrine names. Nogukoyk Lightroot therefore corresponds to Kyokugon Shrine. This relationship is one of the most reliable ways to find the Lightroot when the Depths map is still dark.

Surface counterpart: Kyokugon Shrine

Kyokugon Shrine is found inside Great Plateau Foothill Cave, beneath the northern side of the Great Plateau. Its surface coordinates are listed at approximately −0709, −1551, 0020, closely matching Nogukoyk Lightroot’s horizontal position.

The shrine is a separate location with its own puzzle and reward:

The shrine’s entrance is in Great Plateau Foothill Cave. Reaching it involves passing through breakable stone, so rock-breaking weapons, Bomb Flowers or another suitable method of clearing stone are useful. This surface route is not the same as travelling to Nogukoyk Lightroot through a Depths chasm.

How to reach Nogukoyk Lightroot

Route from the Depths

The most direct method is to enter the Depths through a suitable nearby chasm and travel towards the coordinates −0708, −1551, −0517. Because the Depths are initially dark, place a marker on the surface map at the position of Kyokugon Shrine, then switch to the Depths map and use the same horizontal position as a guide.

The precise starting route depends on which chasms and fast-travel points have already been unlocked. There is no requirement to complete a particular regional phenomenon or defeat a boss before activating this Lightroot.

Route using the surface shrine as a reference

If the surface map is easier to read than the unlit Depths:

This works because Lightroots correspond geographically to surface shrines. The correspondence is close enough to be a dependable search method, although cliffs, caverns and impassable terrain can make the underground approach indirect.

Route from the Depths: A practical route is

  1. 01
Enter the Depths through a chasm in or around Central Hyrule or the Great Plateau approaches.
  2. 02
Use Brightbloom Seeds while travelling through unlit terrain.
  3. 03
Open the map and steer towards the area beneath Kyokugon Shrine.
  4. 04
Look for the characteristic Lightroot glow and its raised root structure.
  5. 05
    Activate Nogukoyk Lightroot.
  6. 06
Use the newly revealed map to plan the next leg towards the Great Abandoned Central Mine or a neighbouring Lightroot.

Route using the surface shrine as a reference

  1. 01
Find Kyokugon Shrine on the surface map.
  2. 02
Note its position near the Great Plateau and Great Plateau Foothill Cave.
  3. 03
Enter the Depths from a convenient Central Hyrule or Great Plateau chasm.
  4. 04
Move towards the corresponding underground position.
  5. 05
    Activate Nogukoyk Lightroot when found.

What activating the Lightroot does

Activating Nogukoyk Lightroot provides the standard Lightroot benefits:

The Lightroot does not function as a settlement or supply station. It does not provide beds, cooking facilities, a merchant or a repair service. The main reward is improved access and visibility rather than a unique item.

Nearby connections

Great Abandoned Central Mine

The Great Abandoned Central Mine is the most important nearby destination. It is a separate Depths location at approximately −0805, −1926, −0520. The mine is associated with the introduction of Autobuild and with the Master Kohga storyline.

From Nogukoyk Lightroot, the mine is a useful destination for players following the Depths investigation. Its exact approach depends on the terrain revealed by the Lightroot, but activating Nogukoyk first makes the surrounding route considerably easier to read.

The mine may contain constructs, Zonai-related facilities, chests and quest progression. These should be counted as content of the Great Abandoned Central Mine rather than as content of Nogukoyk Lightroot.

Great Plateau North Chasm

The Great Plateau North Chasm is another nearby access point to the Depths. It provides a possible route into the general area, but it is not part of the Lightroot itself.

Koradat and Nuzimak Lightroots

Koradat Lightroot and Nuzimak Lightroot are separate neighbouring Lightroots in the Central Hyrule Depths. They are useful as follow-on fast-travel points when mapping this part of the underground, but neither is a branch or subarea of Nogukoyk Lightroot.

Enemies and hazards

No dedicated boss or fixed named enemy encounter is verified at Nogukoyk Lightroot itself. As with most unlit areas of the Depths, players should still prepare for ordinary underground hazards:

The Great Abandoned Central Mine has its own enemies and quest encounters, including Master Kohga, but these are not Lightroot encounters. Master Kohga’s Depths storyline begins at the Great Abandoned Central Mine after the relevant progression in A Mystery in the Depths.

Items and collectibles

Fixed items at Nogukoyk Lightroot

No unique treasure chest or guaranteed collectible is documented as belonging specifically to the Lightroot platform. The verified fixed interaction is:

Nearby caves, mines and Depths terrain can contain Zonaite, Poes, chests and random enemy drops, but these should not be attributed to Nogukoyk Lightroot without a source identifying them as part of the location.

Surface shrine items

The associated Kyokugon Shrine has its own rewards:

These rewards belong to the shrine, not to Nogukoyk Lightroot.

Missions and progression

Nogukoyk Lightroot is not documented as the start or end point of a dedicated mission. Its main progression value is indirect:

The Master Kohga side adventure is associated with the Great Abandoned Central Mine and other abandoned mines. It should not be listed as a Nogukoyk Lightroot quest.

Check the newly revealed map for terrain and neighbouring Lightroots.
  6. 06
