About this guide
Scope: This guide covers Hyrule Field Skyview Tower itself, its monster stronghold and immediate approach routes in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It does not treat the whole Hyrule Field map region as part of the tower. Nearby places such as the Great Plateau, Outskirt Stable, Mount Hylia and Lookout Landing are listed as connections, not as subareas of the tower.
Overview
Hyrule Field Skyview Tower is one of the first optional Skyview Towers Link can activate after reaching the surface. It stands in central Hyrule, south of Lookout Landing and north of the Great Plateau, on a raised rock formation surrounded by a Bokoblin stronghold. Unlike Lookout Landing Skyview Tower, which is tied directly to the opening story progression, Hyrule Field Skyview Tower is a self-contained infiltration or combat challenge. There is no special puzzle blocking the terminal. The difficulty comes from reaching it safely while monsters control the approach.
Activating the tower reveals the Hyrule Field portion of the Surface map and creates a usable Travel Point at its base. It also provides a useful launch point for reaching the Great Plateau, the western and southern parts of Central Hyrule, and nearby sky locations.
The tower site
Hyrule Field Skyview Tower occupies a tall, roughly isolated rock outcrop in the southern part of Hyrule Field. The tower itself is set on the upper surface of the formation, with a narrow route leading up from the surrounding ground. Its position gives it a broad view over central Hyrule and makes it visible from several roads approaching from the north and east.
The Bokoblin camp should be treated as part of the tower encounter rather than as a separate settlement or named subarea. No reliable evidence indicates that the camp has a unique canonical name.
The immediate playable area consists of
- 01The lower ground around the rock formation.
- 02The monster camp surrounding the tower entrance.
- 03The sloping or ramp-like approach to the upper platform.
- 04The Skyview Tower structure and activation terminal.
What is not part of the tower
Several nearby places are easy to conflate with the tower’s scope:
This distinction matters because guides sometimes use “Hyrule Field Tower” to refer loosely to every nearby landmark shown after activation. The tower itself is considerably smaller.
---
The tower has been overrun by monsters. The camp is arranged as a defensive position around the rock formation, with enemies watching the approach and traps intended to stop Link from simply running up the ramp.
The most notable hazard is a Spiked Iron Ball that Blue Bokoblins can roll down the approach. The ball can damage Link, knock him off the route and interrupt an otherwise successful climb. Bomb Barrels are also positioned around the stronghold and can be used offensively if ignited or struck at the right time. The surrounding defensive stakes make the camp feel more like a fortified position than a random roadside encounter.
Confirmed enemies
The exact encounter arrangement can be easier or harder depending on how Link approaches, whether he has already caused an alert and which enemies are still alive. The camp is a fixed location, but combat behaviour and the order in which enemies notice Link are not completely fixed.
---
Requirements
Hyrule Field Skyview Tower has no special environmental puzzle or story lock of its own. However, the general Skyview Tower system must be available. In normal progression, this means Link should have:
The tower itself can then be approached whenever Link wishes. Nintendo Life describes it as having no specific unlock requirement beyond dealing with the Bokoblin camp.
Route from Lookout Landing
The most natural early-game route begins at Lookout Landing.
The tower is south of Lookout Landing, and several guides recommend it as an early map-revealing destination after the initial Lookout Landing sequence.
Route from Lookout Landing: steps
- 01Leave Lookout Landing through its southern or south-western approach.
- 02Follow the road towards the open fields south of the settlement.
- 03Keep the tower in sight and approach from the surrounding grassland rather than charging directly into the camp.
- 04Use the lower ground and nearby slopes to observe the monster positions.
- 05Decide whether to sneak up the formation, use ranged attacks or begin a direct fight.
- 06Reach the tower terminal and activate it.
Route from the Great Plateau
The tower can also be reached from the Great Plateau. This is a practical route if Link has already explored the Plateau or has descended from the Great Sky Island and travelled south before visiting Lookout Landing.
The tower is north of the Great Plateau, and its position makes it a convenient launch point for returning to the Plateau after activation.
---
From the Plateau
- 01Descend towards the northern lowlands.
- 02Travel north-east or north towards the tower’s rock formation.
- 03Approach from the lower field and avoid exposing Link to the camp too early.
- 04Use the height difference to scout the enemies before climbing.
Recommended stealth method
Stealth is the safest option for a lightly equipped Link.
You do not need to clear the camp first. If Link can reach the terminal, the tower can be activated even if several monsters remain alive. This is one of the main advantages of treating the encounter as an infiltration challenge rather than a mandatory extermination mission.
Recommended stealth method: steps
- 01Approach the camp from the side rather than along the centre of the main ramp.
- 02Crouch before entering the enemies’ line of sight.
- 03Use grass, darkness and the uneven ground to break up detection.
- 04Watch the movement of the Blue Bokoblins near the ramp.
- 05Avoid standing directly beneath the path of the Spiked Iron Ball.
- 06Climb or run towards the tower entrance once the nearest guard has moved away.
- 07Enter the tower and interact with the terminal.
Direct combat method
Players with stronger weapons, more hearts or useful elemental materials can fight through the camp.
The Boss Bokoblin has more health and reach than the ordinary Bokoblins. It is safer to separate it from the smaller enemies if possible. Narrow paths can make crowd control difficult, so retreating down the slope is often better than allowing the whole group to surround Link.
Using the camp’s own traps
The Spiked Iron Ball is dangerous to Link but can also disrupt the monsters if the situation is handled carefully. Allowing it to roll through a group of enemies can create an opening, although deliberately positioning it requires good timing.
Bomb Barrels provide another possible advantage. They can be detonated when enemies gather around them, but they are equally dangerous to Link. Do not use explosive attacks at close range unless there is a clear escape route.
---
The tower does not reveal every shrine, Korok or treasure chest automatically. It primarily provides the regional map data. Individual points of interest still need to be discovered or marked by Link.
The launch distance is listed as approximately 1,143 metres, making the tower useful for reaching a wide selection of nearby destinations.
---
The following places are connected to Hyrule Field Skyview Tower by travel, visibility or launch routes. They are neighbouring destinations, not subareas of the tower.
Lookout Landing
Lookout Landing lies to the north and is the main early-game settlement in Central Hyrule. It contains Purah, Josha, Robbie and the Emergency Shelter, as well as the first Skyview Tower normally used in the story.
The Hyrule Field tower is useful after visiting Lookout Landing because it gives Link a second launch point and reveals a different portion of the Central Hyrule map.
Great Plateau
The Great Plateau is south of the tower. It is a separate landmark with its own terrain, caves, shrines and Depths connections. The tower provides a convenient way to glide back towards the Plateau, especially after Link has activated the tower and gained a broad view of the surrounding region.
Outskirt Stable
Outskirt Stable lies in the wider Hyrule Field region and is a useful surface travel point. It is not part of the tower camp. Guides covering routes through Hyrule Field commonly recommend combining the tower with Outskirt Stable and the nearby Tsutsu-um Shrine.
Mount Hylia
Mount Hylia is associated with the Great Plateau rather than the tower itself. From the tower launch, Link can travel south towards the Plateau’s high ground, although the final distance depends on stamina, wind, altitude and the route taken.
Satori Mountain and western Central Hyrule
The tower’s launch height makes it useful for beginning a journey west towards Satori Mountain and the roads leading towards the Hyrule Ridge area. Lindor’s Brow Skyview Tower is a separate tower further west and north-west. It should not be treated as part of the Hyrule Field Tower location.
---
This route is especially efficient because the tower is close enough to Lookout Landing to reach early, but its launch position opens approaches that are less convenient from the settlement.
---
A useful early-game circuit is
- 01Activate Lookout Landing Skyview Tower during the opening story progression.
- 02Travel south towards Hyrule Field Skyview Tower.
- 03Activate the tower using stealth if Link is under-equipped.
- 04Launch south towards the Great Plateau or west towards the fields near Outskirt Stable.
- 05Continue to nearby shrines and stables as desired.
- 06Return to the tower by fast travel when using Central Hyrule as a base.
At the tower
---
The principal fixed reward is the tower’s map activation and Travel Point. Hyrule Field Skyview Tower is not known for a unique chest reward, shrine reward or quest-specific item inside the tower.
The monster camp may provide ordinary combat spoils, including materials dropped by the defeated Bokoblins and weapons or equipment left in the area. These should be treated as encounter loot rather than a named tower reward. The exact contents available to Link may vary according to which enemies are defeated and what equipment they drop.
---
The tower and immediate encounter
The monster stronghold is a descriptive name rather than a confirmed official proper name. It is included here to distinguish the camp from the tower itself.

Nearby named places
These locations are nearby connections or useful destinations. They are not internal subareas of Hyrule Field Skyview Tower.

---
Spiked Iron Ball timing
The most distinctive hazard is the ball trap on the approach. Do not assume that reaching the base of the ramp means the dangerous part is over. Pause and observe the guards before committing to the climb.
A shield, sidestep or retreat can help if the ball begins rolling. The safest response is usually to move away from the centre of the ramp rather than trying to outrun it directly uphill.
Camp alert
If one enemy spots Link, the surrounding monsters may become active at once. This can turn a quiet climb into a difficult fight, particularly if the Boss Bokoblin reaches the narrow approach.
Paraglider safety
The tower is intended to be launched from after activation. Link should not rely on reaching the tower roof and jumping before the terminal has been used, especially early in the game when stamina and movement options are limited.
---
Hyrule Field Skyview Tower does not have a known permanent missability trigger. Its camp remains available for exploration and combat after activation.
The Bokoblin camp does not need to be fully cleared for the tower to remain activated. Conversely, defeating the enemies does not itself activate the tower. Link must still interact with the terminal.
---
Skyview Towers are a feature introduced in Tears of the Kingdom. They function as map-surveying structures associated with Purah’s research and the technological response to the Upheaval. Hyrule Field Skyview Tower continues the series’ recurring use of Hyrule Field as a transitional space between major settlements and landmarks, but its role here is practical rather than dungeon-like.
The broader Hyrule Field region also reflects the sequel’s continuity with Breath of the Wild. The landscape and major landmarks return in altered circumstances, while the Skyview Tower system adds a new vertical exploration function. The tower is therefore best understood as a new facility placed within a familiar regional landscape, not as a replacement for an older tower from another game.
---
The main progression distinction is
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Before tower activation | the tower’s Travel Point is inactive and the regional map remains unrevealed. |
| After tower activation | the map region is revealed and the tower can be used for fast travel and launching. |
Is Hyrule Field Skyview Tower required?
No. It is strongly useful, but it is not the tower that normally advances the opening Lookout Landing sequence. The player can explore and activate towers in different orders once the general tower system has been unlocked.
Do I need to defeat the Boss Bokoblin?
No. You only need to reach and activate the terminal. Sneaking past the camp is a valid strategy.
Can I fast-travel to the tower before activating it?
No. Like other Skyview Tower Travel Points, the location is inactive until Link activates the terminal.
What map does it reveal?
It reveals the surrounding Hyrule Field Surface region. It does not automatically reveal every underground or sky location in the wider area.
Is the Great Plateau part of the tower’s location?
No. The Great Plateau is a separate major landmark south of the tower. It is included in this guide only as a nearby destination and launch connection.
Does the tower have a shrine or shop?
No dedicated shrine, shop or named service is attached to the tower. Nearby locations in the wider Hyrule Field region provide those functions.
