About this guide
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, base game Spoilers: This guide gives the complete shrine solution, including the optional treasure chest.
Overview
Mayachin Shrine is a Shrine of Light in the Hyrule Field region of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Its shrine trial, A Fixed Device, is a compact physics puzzle built around a rolling stone ball, a rotating striking arm and Zonai stakes. The main challenge is learning that the apparently decorative mechanism in the centre can be extended and repositioned with Ultrahand.
The shrine stands in the Exchange Ruins, immediately north-east of Hyrule Field Skyview Tower. The surrounding ruins and tower are useful navigation landmarks, but they are neighbouring overworld locations rather than parts of the shrine interior. Mayachin Shrine itself contains no enemies, combat arena, NPCs, shops or quest-givers. Its content is entirely puzzle-based.
Location and boundaries
Mayachin Shrine is a surface shrine in Hyrule Field. It is located near the Exchange Ruins and just north-east of the Hyrule Field Skyview Tower. From the tower, the shrine is close enough to reach on foot or by gliding after launching from the tower.
The practical boundary of the location is the shrine interior itself. The following places are useful for finding Mayachin Shrine, but should not be treated as subareas within it:
The shrine has no named internal rooms in the game. For navigation, it is helpful to divide it into the following functional sections:
Location and boundaries
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Exchange Ruins | the nearby overworld ruin complex. |
| Hyrule Field Skyview Tower | the nearest major navigation and map-revealing facility. |
| Windvane Meadow | the wider local landscape identified by some guides. |
| Lookout Landing | a more distant Central Hyrule settlement, useful as a regional reference but not part of the shrine. |
Location and boundaries
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Entrance platform | the opening area with the rotating platform. |
| Main puzzle chamber | the large room containing the ball track, crystal switch, striking mechanism and first target. |
| Treasure side | the area behind the second target, containing the chest. |
| Altar side | the route leading to the green shrine altar and Light of Blessing. |

Adjacent or connected landmarks
The neighbouring landmarks are not interior shrine subareas. Nihcayam Lightroot is the shrine’s Depths counterpart in the game’s vertical map structure, not an underground extension of Mayachin Shrine.

Access and recommended route
The shrine is visible on the surface and does not require a quest, dungeon completion, special armour or a particular story stage. You only need to reach the entrance and interact with it. The tower is not required, but activating it makes the surrounding landscape easier to navigate.
Practical preparation
No specialist equipment is required. Ultrahand is needed for the intended solution, so Mayachin Shrine is best attempted after Link has obtained that ability during the opening section of the game.
---
The simplest route is
- 01Travel to Hyrule Field Skyview Tower.
- 02Launch from the tower and glide north-east, or leave the tower and travel overland.
- 03Look for the shrine near the Exchange Ruins.
- 04Activate Mayachin Shrine before entering if you want it marked as a fast-travel point immediately.
2. Reveal the first target
In the main chamber, locate the floor switch and step on it. This rotates a large wall or stone panel, revealing the first glowing target on the far side of the room.
Nearby, a stone ball repeatedly rolls down a track. The goal is to strike that ball so that it travels up the ramp and hits the target.
The important detail is that the crystal switch controls the same central mechanism seen earlier. It is not simply a door control. Striking the crystal makes the mechanism swing, which allows it to hit the rolling ball.
3. Build the striking device
Go down to the mechanism below the main platform. You will find stakes and cylindrical stone pieces nearby.
The aim is to create a long horizontal striking arm. The exact attachment angle is somewhat forgiving, but the arm must extend far enough to meet the rolling ball. If the mechanism swings without contacting the ball, remove it and adjust the position or add more length.
Timing the first hit
Return to the crystal switch. Watch the ball as it rolls down the track. Strike the crystal when the ball is approaching the point where the arm can intercept it.
The first target is usually easier if you allow the ball to travel most of the way down the track before activating the mechanism. If the ball misses, strike the crystal again to reset the arm and try a slightly different timing.
When the ball hits the first target, the route to the shrine altar opens.
Use Ultrahand to
- 01Pick up a stake.
- 02Attach one of the cylindrical pieces to the blunt end of the stake.
- 03Insert the pointed end of the stake into the central rotating device.
- 04Add another cylinder or lengthening piece if necessary.
4. Open the optional treasure route
The second target is on the opposite side of the chamber. It is partly blocked by a hanging stone panel suspended from chains.
Use the spare stake near the panel to hold it out of the way:
The panel does not need to be destroyed. It simply has to be suspended high enough for the ball to reach the target.
Return to the crystal switch and activate the striker again. This time, wait longer before striking the crystal. The ball must be hit later in its path so that it travels towards the second target.
When the second target is struck, the treasure-room gate opens.
4. Open the optional treasure route: steps
- 01Pick up the stake with Ultrahand.
- 02Attach its blunt end to the hanging panel or position it against the panel’s supporting structure.
- 03Drive or attach the pointed end into the wall or ceiling above.
- 04Adjust the panel so that it remains lifted and no longer blocks the target.
5. Collect the chest
Enter the newly opened room and open the chest to obtain:
The chest is optional. It is not required to open the altar route or complete the shrine, but collecting it will mark the shrine’s treasure as obtained on the map once the shrine is completed. The elixir restores stamina and is useful for climbing, gliding and other exploration tasks.
6. Claim the shrine reward
Go through the route opened by the first target and interact with the green altar.
The shrine is then completed and becomes a permanent fast-travel destination. Four Lights of Blessing can be exchanged at a Goddess Statue for either a Heart Container or a Stamina Vessel. The shrine itself does not contain a boss fight or combat trial.

Alternative solutions and useful tricks
The intended method is to build a striker from the provided stakes and cylinders, but Tears of the Kingdom allows several improvised solutions.
Bomb Flower method
Some guides note that a Bomb Flower attached to an arrow can be used to activate a target directly. This can bypass some of the timing involved in the ball mechanism, although it may be less satisfying and can require a clear line of sight.
Cannon or explosive device
An explosive Zonai device, such as a cannon shield setup, can also be used in some versions of the puzzle. These approaches are not necessary for completion and may consume materials, so the supplied shrine mechanism remains the most economical solution.
Weapon-based improvisation
The central mechanism can sometimes be made easier to control by attaching different available objects to it. The important requirement is not the exact material but the creation of a sufficiently long arm that reaches the ball at the correct angle.
Because shrine object physics can produce slightly different results depending on attachment position, a failed attempt is usually best corrected by changing the arm’s length or angle rather than repeatedly striking the crystal at the same time.

Items and rewards directory
Puzzle objects
The stakes and cylinders are puzzle equipment rather than permanent rewards. They cannot be treated as a reliable source of ordinary overworld materials after the shrine is completed.
---
Enemies, characters and services
Mayachin Shrine has no verified resident characters, visitors, merchants, faction members or law-enforcement presence. It also has no shop, inn, stable, healing service or mission-giver.
Directory
The shrine’s challenge is entirely mechanical. Any enemies encountered in the wider Exchange Ruins or the surrounding Hyrule Field belong to the overworld and should not be counted as Mayachin Shrine encounters.
---
Hazards and common mistakes
The shrine has no major environmental hazard, but several small problems commonly cause failed attempts:
The most important conceptual clue is the shrine’s name. “A Fixed Device” refers to the mechanism that must be fixed, extended or equipped with the correct striking parts before it can perform its intended function.
---
Hazards and common mistakes
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| The striker is too short | add another cylinder or reposition the stake. |
| The striker swings in the wrong direction | remove and reattach it at a different angle. |
| The first target is revealed but the ball misses | activate the crystal later or earlier depending on where the ball is when struck. |
| The second target remains blocked | lift the hanging panel with the additional stake before attempting the shot. |
| The chest is forgotten | the altar can be reached after the first target, but the chest requires the second target. |
| The mechanism appears inactive | the crystal must be struck to make the central device swing. |
Suggested exploration route
This route keeps the shrine and its neighbouring landmarks distinct. The tower is the best approach point, while the Exchange Ruins provide local context rather than additional shrine rooms.
---
For a short Central Hyrule shrine circuit
- 01Activate Hyrule Field Skyview Tower if it is still unavailable.
- 02Glide or travel north-east to Mayachin Shrine.
- 03Complete both target shots and collect the Energizing Elixir.
- 04Return outside and inspect the nearby Exchange Ruins separately.
- 05Continue towards Lookout Landing or another Hyrule Field objective.
