Key takeaways
- Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower is at the top of Mount Lanayru, at approximately 3848, -1315, 0533. Other published map references place the tower around 3847, -1313, 0539, reflecting small coordinate differences between map databases.
- Cold resistance is essential for the climb unless you use a very quick route or rely on temporary food and elixirs.
- The tower has no activation puzzle Climb through the ice pillars or Recall a nearby falling rock, then activate the terminal.
- The tower provides the best starting point for The High Spring and the Light Rings, leading to Zakusu Shrine and a Light of Blessing.
- The launch is useful for reaching Mayanas Shrine, the South Lanayru Sky Archipelago, and nearby sky islands.
- The tower’s immediate surroundings include the Spring of Wisdom, Naydra Snowfield, Naydra Snowfield Chasm, Jikais Shrine and Zakusu Shrine, but these are separate named locations rather than parts of the tower itself.
About this guide
Scope: Base game, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This guide treats Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower and its immediate Mount Lanayru approach as the primary location, while also covering the directly connected Spring of Wisdom, Naydra Snowfield, nearby shrines and the sky routes that the tower opens. It does not merge the neighbouring Lanayru Great Spring, Zora’s Domain or Hateno regions into the tower’s boundaries.
Overview
Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower stands near the summit of Mount Lanayru, in one of the coldest parts of eastern Hyrule. It is the regional map tower for the Mount Lanayru area and one of the most useful launch points for reaching the nearby Lanayru sky islands.
The tower itself is not locked behind a puzzle or a local quest. Its challenge is environmental: the approach is steep, snowy and exposed, while the entrance is surrounded by tall ice formations that cannot be climbed directly. The easiest solutions are to climb through the small gaps between the ice pillars or use Recall on a fallen boulder to gain height and paraglide to the tower platform.
Once activated, the tower reveals the Mount Lanayru portion of both the Surface and Sky maps and becomes a fast-travel point. It is also the main launch point for The High Spring and the Light Rings, the shrine quest that reveals Zakusu Shrine.
Preparations
Before beginning the climb, prepare at least one source of cold protection. The mountain route can impose freezing conditions, and the tower is high enough that a short visit without protection can still drain Link’s health rapidly.
The Snowquill Set or cold-resistance meals are particularly useful for the Zakusu Shrine route because both the tower and the surrounding Naydra Snowfield are exposed to low temperatures.
Route 1: Climb through the ice pillars
This is the straightforward route.
The climb is easier with two levels of stamina or a few stamina-restoring meals, although careful movement and use of the natural ledges can reduce the requirement.
Route 1: Climb through the ice pillars: steps
- 01Follow the snowy path towards the tower.
- 02Approach the tall ice columns surrounding the structure.
- 03Do not try to climb the smooth outer faces. Instead, look for the small exposed strips of rock between the columns.
- 04Climb these gaps in stages, resting on ledges whenever possible.
- 05Reach the upper platform and enter the tower.
- 06Activate the terminal and use the launch platform.
Route 2: Recall a fallen boulder
A boulder falls near the tower approach. Use Recall on it and ride its reversed path upwards. When the boulder reaches a useful height, jump and paraglide towards the tower entrance or upper platform.
This method avoids much of the ice climbing and is especially useful if Link has limited stamina or is short on climbing equipment. The general technique is confirmed by location guides describing the fallen-boulder Recall route as an alternative to climbing between the ice pillars.
Route 3: Approach from the air
The tower can also be reached from another Skyview Tower, a nearby sky island or a Zonai vehicle. This is usually unnecessary for a first visit, but it is useful if the player has already unlocked a nearby travel point.
An aerial approach can place Link above the ice pillars, allowing him to glide directly towards the tower platform. It is safer when Link has adequate stamina and a reliable landing point, because the mountain’s height and cold conditions make an unsuccessful glide costly.
---
Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower does not use a switch, repair task or monster-clearing puzzle. Once Link reaches the top, enter the tower and interact with the terminal.
Skyview Tower travel points remain unusable until their terminals are activated. After activation, Link can warp back to the tower whenever he needs a high launch position or a route into the surrounding sky.
Activation provides three important benefits
- 01Mount Lanayru’s Surface map is revealed.
- 02The nearby Sky map is revealed, including the sky routes and islands around south-eastern Lanayru.
- 03The tower becomes a fast-travel point on the Purah Pad.

There is no verified shop, inn, stable, armour merchant, cooking service or permanent settlement at the tower itself.

Cold
Cold is the tower’s main hazard. The route is not merely visually snowy: the mountain environment can impose freezing conditions, so Link should use armour, meals or elixirs that grant cold resistance.
The tower approach is more demanding than many lowland Skyview Towers because the player may need to climb while also managing temperature and stamina. A failed climb can force Link to repeat the ascent from a lower ledge.
Ice pillars
The ice pillars around the tower are a positional hazard rather than a conventional puzzle. Their smooth surfaces prevent a normal climb, but the spaces between them contain climbable ground. Look for dark rock and narrow ledges rather than attempting to scale the pale ice faces.
Hostile wildlife and monsters
The Mount Lanayru region can contain cold-weather enemies, including Ice-Breath Lizalfos in the wider Lanayru mountain area. These enemies are associated with cold regions such as the Lanayru Range, Hebra and the Gerudo Highlands.
The exact encounter arrangement can depend on the route taken, world level and whether the player is travelling through the wider mountain rather than standing at the tower platform. Do not assume every listed enemy will be present at the tower on every visit.
Enemy directory
The Constructs in the Zakusu Shrine challenge are part of a fixed shrine combat scenario. They should be kept separate from ordinary overworld encounters.
---
The Spring of Wisdom is the principal landmark near the tower. It lies at the summit of Mount Lanayru and is associated with the Goddess Statue of Wisdom, Naydra and several quests. It is a separate named location, not a room within Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower.
In Breath of the Wild, the spring was connected to Naydra’s corruption and the Spring of Wisdom quest. In Tears of the Kingdom, the spring remains a significant location but is used differently, particularly as the starting point for the light-ring challenge. The Spring of Wisdom has its own shrine and quest history across the two games, so the Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom versions should not be treated as identical progression states.
Named entries at the spring
Nazbi is not a resident of the tower. He is a quest-associated character encountered near the Spring of Wisdom. He gives Link the clue that begins The High Spring and the Light Rings.

Quest overview
The High Spring and the Light Rings is the tower’s most important optional activity. It begins near the Spring of Wisdom when Link speaks with Nazbi. The challenge sends Link into the sky above Mount Lanayru, where he activates a terminal and then completes a timed descent through a sequence of green light rings.
Completing the challenge reveals Zakusu Shrine, whose trial is Proving Grounds: Ascension.
Walkthrough
The sky island is generally described as being south-east or above the Spring of Wisdom when viewed from the tower, although the precise landing approach depends on Link’s launch height, stamina and gliding direction.
Walkthrough: steps
- 01Travel to the Spring of Wisdom near the top of Mount Lanayru.
- 02Speak with Nazbi.
- 03Accept or begin the light-ring challenge.
- 04Return to Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower.
- 05Launch from the tower and glide towards the nearby sky island above the mountain.
- 06Land at the island’s terminal.
- 07Activate the terminal to begin the descent.
- 08Shield surf or otherwise descend through the first ring.
- 09Follow the route through the remaining rings.
- 10Reach the surface within the time limit.
- 11Enter the newly revealed Zakusu Shrine.
Reward
The ultimate reward is access to Zakusu Shrine and its Light of Blessing. Zakusu Shrine is a Proving Grounds shrine, meaning Link enters with his equipment restricted and must defeat the Constructs using the weapons and materials provided inside. The known encounter list includes Soldier Constructs and a Captain Construct II, with the exact equipment scaling according to the game’s progression system.

Zakusu Shrine
Zakusu Shrine is south-west of Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower in the Naydra Snowfield area. It does not appear in its final accessible state until the light-ring quest has been completed.
Zakusu Shrine is therefore both a nearby landmark and a progression-gated destination. Finding the approximate area before beginning the quest does not replace the light-ring challenge.
Zakusu Shrine
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Location | Naydra Snowfield |
| Trial | Proving Grounds: Ascension |
| Access | Complete The High Spring and the Light Rings |
| Enemies | Soldier Constructs and Captain Construct II |
| Reward | Light of Blessing |
| Depths counterpart | Usukaz Lightroot, according to location references |
Jikais Shrine
Jikais Shrine is another Mount Lanayru shrine, located further east in the region. It is not activated by the Skyview Tower and should not be confused with Zakusu Shrine. Shrine listings place it at approximately 4262, -1674, 0181.
Mayanas Shrine
Mayanas Shrine is in the Lanayru sky area, near the South Lanayru Sky Archipelago. The tower provides a useful launch point for reaching it, although the shrine itself requires its own sky-island activity and should not be considered part of the tower complex.
Lanayru sky routes
From the tower, Link can survey and reach several floating islands. The launch is particularly useful for:
The exact reachable distance depends on stamina, glide clothing, meals and whether Link uses Zonai devices. The tower’s launch height is an advantage, but it does not guarantee that every nearby island can be reached in one glide.
Nearby connection directory
The last group contains neighbouring destinations rather than tower subareas. In particular, Upland Zorana Skyview Tower is a separate tower, and Hateno Village is not part of Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower’s immediate site.

- 03Use the ice gaps or Recall the falling boulder.
- 04Activate the terminal.
- 05Warp back to the tower if you need to prepare for the next activity.
- 06Mark the Spring of Wisdom and nearby shrine locations on the newly revealed map.
Route B: Tower, spring and Zakusu Shrine
This route combines the tower’s activation, its main local quest and the nearby shrine into one expedition.
Route B: Tower, spring and Zakusu Shrine: steps
- 01Activate Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower.
- 02Travel to the Spring of Wisdom.
- 03Speak with Nazbi.
- 04Return to the tower.
- 05Launch to the sky island above the mountain.
- 06Complete the timed light-ring descent.
- 07Enter Zakusu Shrine.
- 08Complete Proving Grounds: Ascension.
Route C: Sky exploration
---
Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower is primarily a traversal facility, not a dense collectible location. The tower itself has no documented shop inventory, resident population or permanent business area.
Route C: Sky exploration: steps
- 01Activate the tower.
- 02Launch and identify the nearest sky islands.
- 03Glide towards the South Lanayru Sky Archipelago.
- 04Prioritise Mayanas Shrine if you are following the shrine network.
- 05Use discovered shrines as later fast-travel points rather than repeatedly launching from the tower.
- 06Return to the tower when you need a high starting position over Mount Lanayru.
Collectible directory
The verified location material consulted for this guide does not provide a complete, tower-specific Korok, treasure-chest or material inventory. It would be unsafe to claim that the tower area contains no such objects simply because they are not listed in the location summaries.
Accordingly, the following should be checked separately with an interactive map or in-game Sensor+ search:
This is an unresolved directory gap, not evidence that those collectibles are absent.
---
Mount Lanayru is a recurring location in the modern Zelda continuity.
In Breath of the Wild, Link and Zelda are connected to Mount Lanayru through Zelda’s seventeenth-birthday pilgrimage to the Spring of Wisdom. The mountain is also central to Naydra’s story. Tears of the Kingdom retains Mount Lanayru and the spring but places the Skyview Tower, sky-island routes and light-ring challenge within the altered geography of the sequel.
The tower is therefore best understood as a Tears of the Kingdom infrastructure addition built into an older sacred landscape. It is not the same structure as the Sheikah Tower associated with the area in Breath of the Wild. The game’s Skyview Towers were built by Hudson Construction as part of the post-disaster surveying effort, under Purah’s direction.

Is Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower locked behind a quest?
No. The tower can be activated as soon as Link reaches the terminal. The nearby The High Spring and the Light Rings quest is separate.
Do I need the Snowquill Set?
No, but some form of cold resistance is strongly recommended. Cold-resistance meals and elixirs can substitute for armour.
Can I climb the ice around the tower?
Not directly on the smooth ice pillars. Use the climbable gaps between them, or use Recall on the nearby falling boulder and paraglide up.
What does the tower reveal?
It reveals the Mount Lanayru portion of the Surface and Sky maps and unlocks the tower as a fast-travel point.
What shrine is associated with the tower?
Zakusu Shrine, also known as Proving Grounds: Ascension. It becomes accessible after completing The High Spring and the Light Rings.
Where is Nazbi?
Nazbi is found near the Spring of Wisdom. He is a quest-associated visitor, not a permanent tower resident.
Is Zora’s Domain part of the tower area?
No. Zora’s Domain belongs to the wider Lanayru Great Spring region. It is a nearby connection, not a subarea of Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower.
Is there a shop or stable at the tower?
No verified shop, stable or general service has been identified at the tower itself.
