Key takeaways

  • Sijnin Lightroot is in Korok Grove, not in the surface Korok Forest itself.
  • It is the southernmost of four closely grouped Lightroots beneath the Great Hyrule Forest.
  • Its surface counterpart is Ninjis Shrine, whose location can help you identify Sijnin’s position when switching between the Surface and Depths map layers.
  • The most practical approach is through the Minshi Woods Chasm, although reaching Sijnin normally requires travelling through the Depths rather than dropping directly beside it.
  • Activating it reveals nearby Depths terrain, removes local darkness and unlocks a Travel Point.
  • No unique shop, character, mission reward or named treasure has been reliably verified as belonging specifically to Sijnin Lightroot.

Overview

Sijnin Lightroot is a Lightroot in Korok Grove, the southern part of the Great Hyrule Forest Depths beneath the Great Hyrule Forest. It is the southernmost member of a close group of four Lightroots beneath the forest, with Eknupup, Ramobnukas and Rikonasum Lightroots forming the rest of the local network. Its position corresponds to Ninjis Shrine on the surface, following the usual reversed-name relationship between Shrines of Light and Lightroots.

Sijnin is mainly a navigation and mapping landmark. It does not have a confirmed shop, named resident, dungeon, boss arena or unique local quest attached to it. Its importance comes from the way it helps open the southern Great Hyrule Forest Depths and provides a convenient fast-travel point for exploring the underground area beneath the forest.

Location and boundaries

Sijnin Lightroot belongs to the Great Hyrule Forest Depths, rather than the wider Central Hyrule Depths. Its immediate named subarea is Korok Grove. This distinction matters because the Depths use their own regional names and geography. Korok Grove is the underground forested area beneath the Great Hyrule Forest, while the surface areas above it include the Lost Woods, Korok Forest and parts of the route through Minshi Woods.

The Lightroot sits around 0355, 1892, -0625 according to the regional Lightroot listings. Some guides give a slightly different vertical value, such as -0646, and a few map references vary by one or more coordinate units. These differences appear to reflect differing points of measurement around the Lightroot platform or guide-map conventions. The horizontal location and identity are consistent.

Sijnin should not be treated as a separate broad region containing the whole Great Hyrule Forest Depths. Its useful local boundary is the area immediately illuminated around the Lightroot and the southern part of Korok Grove. The neighbouring Lightroots define the wider local network:

What Sijnin Lightroot does

Like other Lightroots, Sijnin performs three important functions.

First, activating it creates a permanent source of light in the surrounding Depths. This makes nearby exploration safer and reduces the need to throw Brightbloom Seeds constantly.

Second, it reveals the surrounding section of the Depths map on the Purah Pad. The revealed terrain is particularly helpful in the Great Hyrule Forest because the underground region contains high walls, raised platforms and routes that are difficult to judge while travelling in darkness.

Third, Sijnin becomes a Travel Point. Once activated, Link can return to it from the map, making it useful as a staging point for journeys between the forest Depths, the central Depths and the surface route into the Lost Woods. Lightroots also restore the normal ability to recover hearts that have been damaged by Gloom while Link stands beneath their light.

Access and recommended route

From the surface

The most practical general approach to the Great Hyrule Forest Depths is the Minshi Woods Chasm, located along the route through Minshi Woods towards the Lost Woods. It is east of the Great Hyrule Forest and can be reached from the road leading towards the Lost Woods. One guide places the chasm around 1038, 1662, 0158.

The chasm does not place Link directly beside Sijnin Lightroot. Instead, it leads into the southern forest Depths, where the player must navigate through Korok Grove and activate nearby Lightroots before reaching the southern location.

The Minshi Woods route is also significant because it is the standard underground approach to Korok Forest. Guides commonly describe travelling through the Depths from Minshi Woods Chasm, reaching Rikonasum Lightroot and then using Ascend to reach the surface Korok Forest. That route is useful for establishing the forest network, although Sijnin itself lies farther south.

Using the surface Shrine map

Because Sijnin corresponds to Ninjis Shrine, the surface map can help you locate the Lightroot. Shrines and Lightroots generally occupy matching positions on their respective map layers, and the Lightroot name is formed by reversing the Shrine name. Thus:

This is useful when the Depths map is still mostly dark. Find Ninjis Shrine on the Surface map, switch to the Depths layer and use the matching position as a target. The relationship is a navigation aid, not a separate quest or reward connection.

Recommended route from Minshi Woods Chasm

  1. 01
Enter Minshi Woods Chasm and glide safely to the Depths below.
  2. 02
Use Brightbloom Seeds or another light source to identify the surrounding terrain.
  3. 03
Look for the forest-root structures and nearby illuminated landmarks.
  4. 04
Activate the nearest convenient Lightroot first, especially Rikonasum Lightroot if following the common route towards Korok Forest.
  5. 05
Use the revealed Depths map to identify the position of Sijnin to the south.
  6. 06
Travel south through Korok Grove, watching for cliffs, Gloom-covered ground and gaps between the large underground platforms.
  7. 07
Activate Sijnin when you reach its platform.
  8. 08
From Sijnin, use the map to plan further travel towards Ramobnukas, Eknupup or the wider Great Hyrule Forest Depths.

Surface connections

The surface places are not part of Sijnin Lightroot itself. They are connected navigation points in the corresponding forest region. In particular, Korok Forest and the Lost Woods should not be counted as subareas of Sijnin Lightroot, since they are surface locations with their own characters, quests and progression.

Exploration and gameplay

Sijnin is best used as a checkpoint rather than as a destination with a large activity list. After activating it, players can:

The map reveal is especially useful if the player has entered the Depths through Minshi Woods Chasm before activating the surrounding Lightroots. The forest underground can otherwise appear as a large dark area with only partial visual landmarks.

Hazards

The main hazards around Sijnin are those common to the Depths rather than location-exclusive mechanics.

Gloom

Gloom-covered ground damages Link and temporarily reduces the maximum number of hearts available for healing. The Lightroot’s illumination does not make Gloom-covered ground safe to walk across, so players should still use bridges, climbing, Zonai devices or carefully chosen routes.

Standing beneath an activated Lightroot restores the ability to heal hearts reduced by Gloom. This makes Sijnin a useful recovery point after crossing dangerous patches.

Darkness and vertical terrain

Before activation, the area around Sijnin may be difficult to read. Bring Brightbloom Seeds, a permanent light source or a vehicle with lighting. Large underground tree roots and raised rock platforms can obscure the route.

Depths enemies

The wider Great Hyrule Forest Depths can contain Gloom-affected versions of ordinary monsters and other Depths encounters. However, no unique boss or named enemy has been verified as belonging specifically to Sijnin Lightroot. Random monster placements and temporary encounters should not be confused with fixed location features.

Items and collectibles

No unique item, fixed treasure chest or named collectible has been reliably established as a defining feature of Sijnin Lightroot itself. Players may find ordinary Depths materials, Zonai-related resources and monster drops in the surrounding area, but these should be treated as general regional loot rather than guaranteed Sijnin rewards.

Treasure maps and randomly encountered resources may lead players near the area, but they do not automatically make those discoveries part of Sijnin Lightroot.

Missions and progression

Sijnin Lightroot has no independently verified mission that begins or ends at the Lightroot. It is an optional exploration facility.

The major progression associated with the forest is centred on Korok Forest and the Great Deku Tree, not on Sijnin itself. Any story or side-adventure requirements connected with that area belong to the wider Great Hyrule Forest sequence and should not be presented as Sijnin-specific requirements.

After activation

  1. 01
Confirm that the surrounding map has been revealed.
  2. 02
Mark the nearby Lightroots that remain inactive.
  3. 03
Check the Surface map for Ninjis Shrine and other matching Shrine locations.
