Key takeaways
- Eknupup Lightroot is in Korok Grove, Great Hyrule Forest Depths, at approximately 0622, 2211, -0632. Some map databases list a slightly different vertical coordinate because of map-version or placement conventions.
- Its surface counterpart is Pupunke Shrine.
- The most practical approach is through Minshi Woods Chasm, followed by a north-western journey through the Depths.
- Eknupup is the eastern Lightroot in the close group beneath Korok Forest Ramobnukas, Rikonasum and Sijnin Lightroots are separate locations in the surrounding Korok Grove area.
- It is an excellent fast-travel point for reaching the Korok Forest Ascend route and for travelling between the forest’s southern and eastern Depths.
- The Lightroot itself has no unique chest, shop, resident or boss confirmed by the available location sources.
Note
Base-game guide. This article covers Eknupup Lightroot itself and the wider Korok Grove area needed to reach and use it. It does not treat the whole Great Hyrule Forest Depths as part of the Lightroot, and it keeps neighbouring Lightroots, the Forest Coliseum and the surface Korok Forest separate.
Overview
Eknupup Lightroot is a Lightroot in the Great Hyrule Forest Depths, positioned beneath the eastern side of the Great Hyrule Forest and close to Korok Grove. Activating it illuminates the surrounding Depths, reveals the local map and creates a permanent Travel Point. Its surface counterpart is Pupunke Shrine, whose name is the Lightroot’s name written in reverse.
Although Eknupup Lightroot is a small location with no shop, quest-giver or dungeon attached directly to it, it is an important navigation point. It sits beside the route used to reach the other Lightroots beneath Korok Forest, and it provides one of the most useful early map references for approaching Korok Grove from Minshi Woods Chasm.
The wider area is more significant than the Lightroot alone. Korok Grove contains four nearby Lightroots, an Ascend route into Korok Forest, the hidden area below the Great Deku Tree and routes towards the Forest Coliseum. Those places are related geographically, but they are not all part of Eknupup Lightroot itself.
Location and boundaries
Eknupup Lightroot
Eknupup Lightroot is the named Lightroot at the eastern side of the Korok Grove network. It is a single fixed structure rather than a broad subregion. When activated, its light spreads across the nearby Depths and fills in the corresponding section of the Depths map. Like other Lightroots, it can then be used as a Travel Point.
The Lightroot should not be described as being “inside Korok Forest”. Korok Forest is on the Surface, while Eknupup is underground in the Depths. The wider underground area beneath the forest is called Korok Grove. The two locations are connected by an Ascend route, but they remain separate map locations and progression spaces.
Korok Grove
Korok Grove is the wider Depths area surrounding the Lightroot cluster below Korok Forest. It is only accessible from the south-east in the ordinary overland route, near Minshi Grove, although the player can also reach parts of it by descending through the Deku Tree Chasm after entering Korok Forest.
These are separate destinations. Activating Eknupup does not activate the other three, although its illumination makes the nearby routes easier to see.
Separate neighbouring locations
The following places are close enough to matter when planning a route, but should not be merged into Eknupup Lightroot:
Korok Grove: The grove includes four named Lightroots
Access and recommended routes
Route 1: Minshi Woods Chasm
This is the clearest general route if Eknupup is still undiscovered.
One practical guide describes Eknupup as visible from the Minshi Woods Chasm approach and recommends reaching it before attempting the nearby route to Rikonasum Lightroot.
This approach is safer than trying to cross the entire forest underground without a map. It also gives a useful first foothold in the Great Hyrule Forest Depths.
Route 2: From Uihcoke Lightroot
If Uihcoke Lightroot has already been activated, use it as the southern starting point.
A walkthrough for the forest area recommends activating Uihcoke first, then travelling north-west towards Korok Grove and Eknupup.
Route 3: From another Korok Grove Lightroot
Once one of the nearby roots is active, the others are straightforward to connect.
The map sources consistently place Eknupup, Ramobnukas, Rikonasum and Sijnin in the same Korok Grove cluster.
Route 1: Minshi Woods Chasm
- 01Travel to Minshi Woods Chasm, south-east of the Great Hyrule Forest.
- 02Enter the chasm and glide down carefully.
- 03Move north-west through the Depths. Bring Brightbloom Seeds or another light source, as the route is initially dark.
- 04Watch for gloom pools and uneven terrain.
- 05Continue towards the visible glow of Eknupup Lightroot.
- 06Activate the Lightroot and use the newly revealed map to plan routes to Rikonasum, Ramobnukas and Sijnin.
Route 2: From Uihcoke Lightroot
- 01Fast-travel to Uihcoke Lightroot.
- 02Travel north-west through the Depths.
- 03Use Brightbloom Seeds to mark the route if the surrounding map remains dark.
- 04Continue into Korok Grove.
- 05Activate Eknupup when you reach its tree-like structure.
Route 3: From another Korok Grove Lightroot
| Starting point | Destination | General direction |
|---|---|---|
| Rikonasum Lightroot | Eknupup Lightroot | North-east |
| Ramobnukas Lightroot | Eknupup Lightroot | East or north-east |
| Sijnin Lightroot | Eknupup Lightroot | North-west |
| Eknupup Lightroot | Forest Coliseum | West, through the wider grove |
What activating Eknupup does
Lightroots are not conventional shrines and do not contain a shrine puzzle. Eknupup therefore does not award a Light of Blessing. Its principal reward is access, visibility and fast travel.
Nearby connections and exploration
Rikonasum Lightroot
Rikonasum is the principal neighbouring Lightroot in the central part of Korok Grove. It is associated with the broader route beneath Korok Forest and is useful for navigating towards the Forest Coliseum and the Ascend route.
From Eknupup, travel south-west towards the large rock surfaces and follow the raised terrain. Gloom pools make the approach hazardous, so gliding short distances and using Brightbloom Seeds is safer than running blindly across the ground.
Ramobnukas Lightroot
Ramobnukas lies west of Eknupup. It is part of the same forest-themed underground region and is also connected to the Forest Coliseum route. The surrounding area can contain the distinctive Mighty Banana trail associated with the Yiga trap leading towards the coliseum. The banana trail and the coliseum encounter belong to the wider Korok Grove and Forest Coliseum content, not to Eknupup Lightroot itself.
Sijnin Lightroot
Sijnin is south-east of Rikonasum and belongs to the same four-Lightroot cluster. It is useful when completing the local map, particularly because the roots can be easy to overlook when the nearby terrain is already partly illuminated.
Forest Coliseum
The Forest Coliseum is west of the Korok Grove Lightroot group. It is a distinct Depths landmark with its own enemy challenge and reward. It should not be counted as part of Eknupup’s immediate contents, although Eknupup is a useful Travel Point for reaching it.
Korok Forest Ascend route
One of the most important reasons to activate Eknupup is the nearby route into Korok Forest. The player can use an Ascend point in Korok Grove to rise into the forest from below. In Tears of the Kingdom, the ordinary approach through the Lost Woods is blocked at the beginning, so the Depths route is the intended method of entry.
This makes Eknupup especially useful early in a forest-focused exploration plan:
Korok Forest Ascend route
- 01Enter the Depths through Minshi Woods Chasm.
- 02Activate Eknupup.
- 03Locate the Ascend route in Korok Grove.
- 04Rise into Korok Forest.
- 05Deal with the forest’s corruption by descending through the Deku Tree Chasm and resolving the encounter beneath the Great Deku Tree.
Enemies and hazards
At Eknupup Lightroot
No unique enemy, boss or fixed combat encounter is verified directly at Eknupup Lightroot in the available location records. Random or respawning Depths enemies may still be encountered while travelling to the root, but these should not be presented as a fixed Eknupup encounter without a location-specific source.
In the wider Korok Grove
The wider grove contains several hazards and enemy types, including:
The area is also associated with Deep Fireflies and forest materials such as Bomb Flowers, Muddle Buds and Puffshrooms. These listings describe Korok Grove broadly and are not a claim that every enemy or material appears beside the Lightroot itself.
Gloom Spawn beneath the Great Deku Tree
A major fixed encounter exists in the secluded area beneath the Great Deku Tree. This is reached through Deku Tree Chasm, not by treating the Eknupup Lightroot platform as the encounter site.
Inside the chamber, a Gloom Spawn is harming the Great Deku Tree. Defeating it causes Phantom Ganon to appear. After Phantom Ganon is defeated, the corruption is removed and the Korok Forest’s normal conditions are restored. This progression is linked to the Korok Forest story and the Great Deku Tree, rather than being a reward or event belonging directly to Eknupup.
Items and materials
The Lightroot itself is primarily a travel and mapping facility. The broader Korok Grove has verified forest-themed materials and collectibles, but their exact placements are not all tied to the Eknupup platform.
Verified wider-area materials
Korok Grove sources also list a Large Crystallized Charge among the area’s items. As with the enemy list, these are wider-area records and should not be read as a guaranteed inventory sitting beside Eknupup.
Progression and missability
Eknupup Lightroot is not known to be permanently missable. It remains available after completing the game’s regional quests and can be activated whenever Link reaches the location.
The main progression distinction is access to the forest:
These are progression changes in the connected Korok Forest area, not changes to the Eknupup Lightroot itself.
