Note
Base game guide. This page covers Netinet Lightroot itself and its immediate Central Hyrule Depths surroundings, rather than treating the whole Central Hyrule Depths as part of the location. It does not include the separate Teniten Shrine as an explorable subarea, although the shrine is the Lightroot’s surface counterpart.
Overview
Netinet Lightroot is a Lightroot in the Hyrule Field Depths, within the wider Central Hyrule Depths region of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It lies in the underground area south of Hyrule Field Chasm and north-east of the Grove of Time. Activating it permanently illuminates the surrounding Depths, reveals local map data and creates a fast-travel point. Its corresponding surface shrine is Teniten Shrine, located near Whistling Hill in Hyrule Field.
Netinet is a small point-of-interest rather than a settlement or dungeon. There are no confirmed shops, named residents, quest-givers or dedicated buildings at the Lightroot itself. Its importance comes from navigation: it is a useful central-western Hyrule Field Depths checkpoint, and its light reaches a stretch of underground terrain containing routes towards the Grove of Time, Nuzimak Lightroot, the Great Abandoned Central Mine and several enemy encounters.
Overview and boundaries
Netinet Lightroot consists of the Lightroot itself and the immediately illuminated underground ground around its base. It should not be expanded into the whole Hyrule Field Depths. The surrounding region contains separate named locations and facilities, including Nuzimak Lightroot, Nogukoyk Lightroot, Stakijat Lightroot, the Grove of Time, the Great Abandoned Central Mine and the Plains Bargainer Statue. These are neighbouring connections, not subareas of Netinet Lightroot.
The Lightroot is positioned in a relatively open section of the Depths rather than inside a major cavern, mine or underground fortress. This makes it easier to approach once you have reached the general area, although the darkness can obscure cliffs, gloom patches and hostile encounters before activation.
Named locations within the immediate scope
The following entries are the verified named locations most relevant to the Netinet Lightroot area and its direct approaches:
The last three surface or regional names are connections rather than parts of Netinet Lightroot itself. The Teniten Shrine is especially important because it is the surface location paired with Netinet Lightroot.

Location and navigation
Netinet Lightroot is found south of Hyrule Field Chasm, in the underground area associated with the southern and south-eastern parts of Hyrule Field. One route description places it north-east of the Grove of Time, while another lists it as south-west of the Plains Bargainer Statue. These descriptions refer to the same general cluster of Central Hyrule Depths landmarks.
How to identify it in the dark
Before activation, the Lightroot appears as a large pale root structure suspended above a glowing base. In an unlit region, it can be difficult to distinguish from distant environmental glow, so the most reliable approach is to use the corresponding surface shrine:
The shrine-to-Lightroot relationship is one of the game’s most useful exploration rules. Netinet corresponds specifically to Teniten Shrine rather than to nearby shrines such as Mayachin Shrine or Tsutsu-um Shrine.
Approaching from Hyrule Field Chasm
Hyrule Field Chasm is the most natural entry point for many players. From the chasm:
This approach is useful early in the game because Hyrule Field Chasm is relatively accessible from Lookout Landing and the central surface roads. However, the first descent can leave Link with limited visibility and insufficient gloom resistance, so carrying Brightbloom Seeds and a few healing meals is sensible.
Approaching from the southern Depths
If you are already exploring the Great Abandoned Central Mine or the Grove of Time, Netinet Lightroot is a convenient northern or north-eastern destination. The route may involve crossing open terrain with gloom pools and enemy groups. Nuzimak Lightroot lies further south in the same broad underground exploration network, while Nogukoyk Lightroot is another nearby map checkpoint to the west.
How to identify it in the dark
- 01Open the Surface map and locate Teniten Shrine.
- 02Switch to the Depths map.
- 03Use the shrine’s position as a guide, remembering that shrines and Lightroots are paired across the world layers.
- 04Mark or travel towards the matching underground point.
- 05Look for the root’s pale structure and central glowing pedestal.
- 06Interact with the pedestal to activate Netinet Lightroot.
Approaching from Hyrule Field Chasm
- 01Descend into the Depths and activate any nearby Lightroot if the area is still completely dark.
- 02Travel south or south-east, using Brightbloom Seeds to mark the route.
- 03Avoid committing to a straight line through gloom-covered ground if the surrounding terrain is not visible.
- 04Watch for cliffs and raised Depths terrain, as the shortest map route may require climbing or detouring.
- 05Continue towards the Netinet marker or the corresponding point beneath Teniten Shrine.
What activating Netinet Lightroot does
Activating Netinet Lightroot provides the normal Lightroot benefits:
Lightroot illumination is permanent for the save file. It is not a temporary light source like a Brightbloom Seed, although the visible reach of the illumination is limited to the surrounding area. The Lightroot does not function as a shrine and does not grant a Light of Blessing.
The Lightroot’s healing behaviour should also be understood correctly. Lightroots are associated with the Depths’ anti-Gloom systems, but they do not restore normal hearts lost through ordinary damage, and they do not replace meals or other healing methods. Sources describe heart restoration as disabled for containers damaged by Gloom.
Surface counterpart: Teniten Shrine
Teniten Shrine is not part of Netinet Lightroot, but it is the Lightroot’s direct surface counterpart. It is located on the south-west side of Whistling Hill in Hyrule Field, near the entrance to Whistling Hill Cave. The shrine’s trial is Combat Training: Throwing.
The shrine contains a training construct and teaches the player to use thrown weapons effectively. Its position is useful when searching for Netinet because the two locations occupy corresponding positions in the Surface and Depths maps. If you have found one but not the other, switching map layers and checking the matching point is usually faster than searching manually.
Teniten Shrine directory
The shrine awards a Light of Blessing, but that reward belongs to Teniten Shrine and should not be listed as a Netinet Lightroot reward.

Nearby connections
Netinet Lightroot is most useful as part of a wider route through the Hyrule Field Depths.
Grove of Time
The Grove of Time is a named underground area south-west or south of the central Hyrule Depths routes. It is a separate location, not a chamber or subarea belonging to Netinet Lightroot. The Grove can serve as a visual and navigational reference when travelling between Lightroots.
Plains Bargainer Statue
The Plains Bargainer Statue is one of the most useful nearby landmarks. Bargainer Statues exchange Poes for Depths-related goods, but the statue is a separate facility and is not a service provided by Netinet Lightroot. A route listing places it to the north-east of the Netinet area, while another lists Netinet to the south-west of the statue.
Great Abandoned Central Mine
The Great Abandoned Central Mine lies further south through the Hyrule Field Depths network. It is a major underground landmark connected with the Depths storyline and the Yiga-related Master Kohga sequence. It is not within the immediate Netinet Lightroot site, so players should treat it as a destination reached from Netinet rather than as part of the Lightroot’s local boundaries.
Nearby Lightroots
Not all of these are equally close by terrain distance. They belong to the wider Central Hyrule Depths network and are useful when planning a larger underground route. The regional Lightroot lists place Netinet among the Hyrule Field and Central Hyrule entries rather than in a unique dungeon or mine subregion.
Nearby Lightroots: The nearby Lightroots are separate checkpoints
Enemies and hazards
No unique boss or fixed named enemy is verified as belonging specifically to the Netinet Lightroot pedestal. The surrounding Depths can nevertheless contain ordinary hostile encounters, and route guides identify nearby threats including Hinox, Frox, Battle Talus and other monsters in the broader area. These encounters are nearby regional content rather than guaranteed occupants of the Lightroot platform itself.
Gloom
Gloom is the principal hazard. Pools and patches may block a direct route, particularly before the area is illuminated. Gloom damage temporarily reduces the maximum number of usable hearts unless Link uses suitable recovery methods, returns to the surface or reaches a Lightroot-related safe area.
Darkness
Before activation, the area around Netinet can conceal cliffs, deep drops and enemies. Throw Brightbloom Seeds ahead rather than firing them randomly into the distance. Marking explored routes with small light sources helps prevent circling back through the same terrain.
Terrain
The Depths do not mirror the surface in a simple walkable way. Surface hills often correspond to underground walls, while water on the surface may become difficult or impossible terrain below. Near Netinet, climbing and detouring may be more efficient than attempting to follow a straight line between landmarks.
Enemy encounters
A lit area is safer to navigate but not automatically safe. Monsters can remain just outside the Lightroot’s brightest zone, and large enemies may patrol open areas nearby. If you are travelling early in the game, activate the Lightroot first, then decide whether to continue towards a monster marker.
Items and collectibles
Netinet Lightroot itself is primarily a facility. No unique treasure chest, shrine reward, shop inventory or named collectible is verified as being placed directly at the Lightroot pedestal.
The surrounding Depths may contain ordinary resources, Poes, Zonai-related materials and enemy drops, but these are not guaranteed to appear at fixed positions unless a separate map or guide confirms the individual placement. Do not treat random monster drops or procedural-feeling resource spawns as unique Netinet rewards.
Verified fixed rewards
| Location | Reward or function |
|---|---|
| Netinet Lightroot | Map reveal, permanent local illumination and fast travel |
| Teniten Shrine | Light of Blessing |
| Nearby Bargainer Statue | Poe exchange services, at the separate statue |
Residents, characters and services
No named resident, ordinary NPC, faction headquarters, shopkeeper or law-enforcement presence is verified at Netinet Lightroot itself.
The area should therefore be classified as a remote Depths checkpoint rather than a settlement. There is no evidence that Netinet provides:
The nearby Plains Bargainer Statue is a separate service location. Likewise, any Yiga activity associated with the Great Abandoned Central Mine belongs to that wider underground storyline and should not be assigned to Netinet Lightroot without direct evidence.

Lore and progression
Lightroots are one of the defining features of the Depths. Their roots push upward into the underground world and provide both illumination and a practical network of fast-travel points. The game’s map design links them to surface Shrines of Light, creating a deliberate relationship between the two layers. Netinet and Teniten are one example of this pairing.
Netinet does not have a separate story progression state. Its function remains the same before and after the main story, although the player’s ability to reach it safely changes with equipment, Depths resources and familiarity with underground routes. It is not locked behind a quest, temple completion or special ability. The main requirement is simply reaching and activating the Lightroot.
