About this guide
Scope: Base game, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Status: Researched guide. Kogoir Lightroot is a small, self-contained Depths landmark rather than a broad region. No separate child settlement, dungeon, business district or named subarea is securely documented within the location itself.
Overview
Kogoir Lightroot is a Lightroot in the Central Hyrule Depths, positioned beneath the southern part of Hyrule. It is found south-west of the Floating Coliseum, west of the Grove of Spirits and north-west of the Secret Spring of Revival. The Lightroot stands on a raised stone platform close to one of the Depths’ dividing walls, beneath the River of the Dead or Regencia River area on the Surface.
Like every Lightroot, activating Kogoir Lightroot illuminates the surrounding Depths, reveals the nearby section of the Depths map and creates a permanent fast-travel point. Its Surface counterpart is Riogok Shrine, whose position corresponds to the Lightroot’s location.
Kogoir is easy to overlook because it is not tied to a large mine, major quest hub or obvious chasm entrance. It is, however, a useful navigation point in the southern Central Hyrule Depths, particularly when travelling between the Great Abandoned Central Mine, the Floating Coliseum and the surrounding underground corridors.
Location and boundaries
Kogoir Lightroot itself is a single Lightroot platform and its immediately surrounding underground terrain. It should not be treated as a name for the entire area around the Floating Coliseum or the Great Abandoned Central Mine.
The Lightroot is described as sitting on a large plinth close to a dividing wall. That raised platform is the main physical feature of the location. The terrain around it drops away, including towards a lower area where the nearby Zonai Device cache can be found.
Not part of Kogoir Lightroot
This distinction matters because the nearby locations have their own enemies, rewards and exploration content. Activating Kogoir Lightroot does not complete or unlock their associated activities.

Nearby separate locations
The River of the Dead and Regencia River references appear in location descriptions as the Surface areas above or around Kogoir’s position. They should not be confused with underground subareas belonging to the Lightroot.

What Kogoir Lightroot does
Approach the glowing root and interact with it to activate it. Activation provides three practical benefits:
Lightroots function as underground equivalents of map-revealing landmarks. They do not operate like Shrines and do not contain a separate puzzle or shrine blessing reward. The principal reward for Kogoir is access, visibility and a travel point.
The Lightroot’s location also follows the game’s wider Surface-to-Depths correspondence. Surface Shrines and Depths Lightroots occupy matching positions, while their names are generally formed by reversing the other name. Kogoir Lightroot corresponds to Riogok Shrine.

What Kogoir Lightroot does: steps
- 01It illuminates the surrounding Depths.
- 02It reveals the nearby section of the Depths map.
- 03It becomes a fast-travel destination.
How to reach Kogoir Lightroot
Recommended approach
The most reliable method is to use the Surface map and the Shrine-Lightroot relationship.
The Surface and Depths maps mirror one another closely enough that an explored Shrine is often the easiest way to locate its corresponding Lightroot.
Navigation from the Floating Coliseum
Kogoir Lightroot is south-west of the Floating Coliseum. If the Coliseum is already visible on the Depths map, use it as the broad reference point, then travel south-west rather than searching immediately around the Coliseum itself.
Take care not to confuse Kogoir with the Lightroot closer to the Coliseum. The neighbouring Lightroots are separate map points, and activating one does not activate the others.
Navigation from the Great Abandoned Central Mine
Kogoir lies to the south-west of the Great Abandoned Central Mine area. Players searching from the mine should follow the underground terrain rather than assuming that the Lightroot is inside the mine complex. The mine and Kogoir Lightroot are separate locations.
Equipment and preparation
Kogoir does not require a particular quest, Sage ability or item. Before entering the Depths, it is sensible to bring:
Lightroots themselves remove darkness in their surrounding area, but they do not make the entire route safe or illuminated.
---
Recommended approach
- 01Locate Riogok Shrine on the Surface map.
- 02Place a marker on the corresponding position on the Depths map.
- 03Enter the Depths through a suitable nearby chasm.
- 04Travel towards the marker using Brightbloom Seeds, a glowing meal or another light source.
- 05Watch for the raised stone platform and the Lightroot’s glow.
- 06Activate Kogoir Lightroot.
- 07If desired, descend towards the south-western lower area to inspect the Zonai Device cache.
Zonai Device cache
A Zonai Device cache is positioned close to Kogoir Lightroot on a lower level to the south-west. It is one of the most useful reasons to search the immediate surroundings after activating the root.
The stone slabs are building materials rather than Zonai Devices, but they are particularly useful here because the cache provides wheels, fans and carts that can be attached to them. The combination supports quick experimentation with underground transport, although the cache is not described as a named quest reward or a permanent facility.
Practical use
The cache is separate from the Lightroot activation reward. Taking the devices is optional and does not affect map completion.
---
The documented contents are
| Device or material | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Wing | 1 |
| Small Wheel | 4 |
| Cart | 3 |
| Fan | 3 |
| Large stone slab | 2 |
| Smaller stone slab | 1 |
Practical use: After activating the Lightroot
- 01Look for a route descending from the raised platform.
- 02Move south-west towards the lower ground.
- 03Search for the device cache among the surrounding terrain.
- 04Collect the devices and slabs.
- 05Use Ultrahand to assemble a temporary vehicle if the route ahead is difficult.
Enemies, hazards and environmental concerns
The available location descriptions identify Kogoir primarily as a Lightroot platform and do not establish a unique boss, named enemy encounter or dedicated combat arena at the site. Any enemies encountered in the surrounding Depths should therefore be treated as ordinary regional encounters unless the player’s own map or a separate encounter guide confirms otherwise.
Kogoir Lightroot’s position near a dividing wall can make direct approaches awkward. If the marker appears close but the Lightroot cannot be seen, check both the upper and lower elevations rather than circling the same level.
The Depths’ ordinary gloom rules still apply. Activating the Lightroot illuminates the area, but it does not automatically restore gloom-damaged hearts. Lightroots are map and travel facilities, not replacements for gloom-resistant meals or armour.
---
Progression and missability
Kogoir Lightroot has no known progression lock. It can be activated during early Depths exploration, after unlocking additional abilities, or during post-game free exploration.
Lightroots are not missable. They remain available after the main story, and their activation does not depend on completing a specific regional phenomenon or defeating a boss.
Spoiler-light progression notes

Spoiler-light progression notesSpoilers
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Before major Depths progression | Kogoir can be reached with ordinary lighting tools and careful movement. |
| After unlocking more travel options | Fast travel to Kogoir makes it useful as a staging point for nearby exploration. |
| After completing the main story | It remains available for map completion and travel. |
| For completionists | Kogoir’s surface counterpart, Riogok Shrine, provides a useful cross-check. If one is active and the other is missing, inspect the corresponding map layer. |
Suggested exploration route
For an efficient visit, use the following order:
This route prioritises the permanent travel point before optional resource collection. It also avoids treating the nearby Coliseum or mine as part of Kogoir Lightroot itself.
---
Suggested exploration route: steps
- 01Reach the general Central Hyrule Depths area.
- 02Travel towards the Floating Coliseum as a visual reference.
- 03Continue south-west towards Kogoir’s approximate map position.
- 04Activate Kogoir Lightroot first.
- 05Check the lower south-western level for the Zonai Device cache.
- 06Use the new fast-travel point to return later if the surrounding area is still dark or unexplored.
- 07Compare the Depths map with the Surface map and check Riogok Shrine’s position.
