About this guide
Spoiler warning: This guide covers the location’s relationship with the Surface, its activation benefits, route planning and the corresponding Kamizun Shrine. It does not spoil the main story beyond general information about the Depths.
Overview
Nuzimak Lightroot is a small but useful location in the Central Hyrule Depths in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It is a Lightroot rather than a settlement, dungeon or multi-part landmark. Its main purpose is to illuminate the surrounding Depths, reveal nearby map data and provide a permanent fast-travel point.
The Lightroot corresponds to Kamizun Shrine on the Surface. As with most Lightroots, its name is effectively the Surface shrine’s name written backwards. Nuzimak Lightroot is positioned beneath the Hyrule Field area, near the underground side of the Forest of Time region.
Because the location itself contains no documented settlement, shop, named resident, quest hub or separate dungeon area, its scope is deliberately narrow. Nearby Depths landmarks such as the Forest Coliseum and Ramobnukas Lightroot are neighbouring locations, not subareas of Nuzimak Lightroot.
Location and boundaries
Nuzimak Lightroot is a single Lightroot structure in the Central Hyrule Depths. The relevant underground area is not a named town or enclosed zone with formal internal districts. Its practical boundary is the illuminated area around the Lightroot and the surrounding Depths terrain revealed on the Purah Pad after activation.
The available location directories classify Nuzimak Lightroot under Central Hyrule, rather than Lanayru, Faron or the Great Hyrule Forest.
Nearby but separate locations
The last two are Surface navigation references rather than parts of Nuzimak Lightroot. Kamizun Shrine is described as being near the Forest of Time, southeast of the Hyrule Field Skyview Tower and southeast of Lake Kolomo in different location guides.

What Nuzimak Lightroot does
Lightroots have three important functions.
1. Illuminating the Depths
Activating Nuzimak Lightroot permanently lights the surrounding underground area. This makes nearby terrain easier to traverse and reduces the need to rely constantly on Brightbloom Seeds.
The revealed area is not the whole Central Hyrule Depths. It is a local section surrounding the Lightroot. Other dark sections remain unexplored until Link activates more Lightroots or uses temporary light sources.
2. Revealing map data
The activation also reveals the corresponding section of the Depths map. This can expose terrain outlines, nearby roads, chasms, bodies of water and other underground features that were previously hidden by the darkness.
Lightroots function in this respect like underground equivalents of Surface map-revealing landmarks.
3. Providing a Travel Point
Once activated, Nuzimak Lightroot becomes a permanent fast-travel destination. This makes it useful as a staging point for continued exploration of the Central Hyrule Depths, especially if the player wants to approach nearby underground landmarks without entering through a chasm each time.
Gloom recovery
Standing in the light of an activated Lightroot restores the ability to recover hearts damaged by Gloom. The Lightroot does not function as a general healing bed or replace meals and elixirs, but it removes the underground Gloom restriction while Link is within its illuminated area.

Access and routes
Route from the Surface
The most reliable Surface reference is Kamizun Shrine. Since Lightroots correspond to Surface shrines, locating Kamizun Shrine gives a useful map position for finding Nuzimak Lightroot below it.
The surface shrine is listed around −0178, −1557, 0023, while the corresponding Lightroot is listed around −0178, −1559, −0473. The near-identical X and Y values demonstrate the vertical relationship between the two locations.
Route using another Lightroot
If Nuzimak is already visible on the Depths map, it can be reached by fast-travelling to another activated Lightroot in Central Hyrule and travelling across the underground terrain. This is usually safer than entering an unknown chasm directly, because the activated starting point provides light and a known position.
Do not treat Ramobnukas Lightroot or the Forest Coliseum as part of Nuzimak Lightroot. They are useful navigation references, but they remain separate locations.
Recommended equipment
No special quest item is required to activate the Lightroot. The following are useful:
The Lightroot itself does not require a particular sage, main quest or number of hearts.

Route from the Surface: A practical route is
- 01Travel to Hyrule Field.
- 02Locate Kamizun Shrine, in the Forest of Time area.
- 03Open the Depths map and place a marker beneath the shrine’s position.
- 04Enter the Depths through a suitable nearby chasm.
- 05Travel underground towards the marked position.
- 06Use Brightbloom Seeds, a vehicle or another light source while the area remains dark.
- 07Approach the glowing root and interact with it to activate Nuzimak Lightroot.
Relationship with Kamizun Shrine
Kamizun Shrine is the Surface counterpart of Nuzimak Lightroot. It is a Proving Grounds: Beginner shrine in Hyrule Field, near the Forest of Time.
Kamizun Shrine itself contains a combat trial that removes Link’s equipment temporarily and supplies basic weapons and materials inside the shrine. That challenge belongs to the shrine, not to Nuzimak Lightroot, and should not be counted as content within the Depths location.
---
Residents, services and activities
Nuzimak Lightroot is not a settlement. No named resident, travelling merchant, researcher, stable worker or faction headquarters is verified as belonging to the location.
Directory
The only confirmed service is the Lightroot’s own function as an illuminated fast-travel location. Its light also counters Gloom’s maximum-heart effect nearby.
---
Enemies, items and collectibles
The available dedicated location references do not establish a fixed enemy encounter, boss, treasure chest, unique weapon, named collectible or guaranteed material cache at Nuzimak Lightroot.
This distinction matters because the surrounding Depths may contain ordinary underground enemies, loose materials and resource deposits, but these should not automatically be attributed to the Lightroot itself. Enemy placements and nearby resource discoveries can vary according to the route taken and the broader underground terrain.
Verified location-specific directory
The Light of Blessing belongs to Kamizun Shrine, not Nuzimak Lightroot. The Lightroot provides map illumination and travel access instead.

Walkthrough: activating Nuzimak Lightroot
---
Walkthrough: activating Nuzimak Lightroot: steps
- 01Prepare before entering the Depths. Carry Brightbloom Seeds and at least one healing option. If travelling through a previously unexplored area, bring Gloom recovery supplies as well.
Walkthrough: activating Nuzimak Lightroot: steps
- 01Use Kamizun Shrine as your Surface reference. Kamizun Shrine is the corresponding Surface location. Its position is close to the Lightroot’s horizontal coordinates.
Walkthrough: activating Nuzimak Lightroot: steps
- 01Choose a nearby chasm. Enter through a chasm that allows a practical underground approach. The exact best entrance depends on which chasms and Lightroots you have already unlocked.
Walkthrough: activating Nuzimak Lightroot: steps
- 01Mark the target on the Depths map. Set a marker at approximately −0178, −1559, −0473. Treat this as an approximate travel-gate position rather than a demand for pixel-perfect navigation.
Walkthrough: activating Nuzimak Lightroot: steps
- 01Light the route. Fire Brightbloom Seeds onto the ground or walls, or use a vehicle with attached lights. Avoid spending all your supplies at the entrance if the approach is long.
Walkthrough: activating Nuzimak Lightroot: steps
- 01Look for the Lightroot’s glow. An inactive Lightroot is visible as a large pale root structure in the darkness. Once close enough, interact with it.
Walkthrough: activating Nuzimak Lightroot: steps
- 01Activate Nuzimak Lightroot. The surrounding Depths become illuminated, the local map is revealed and the location becomes available for fast travel.
Walkthrough: activating Nuzimak Lightroot: steps
- 01Use the new Travel Point immediately if needed. Fast-travel away and return if you need to restock or prepare for a longer underground expedition. The activation remains permanent.
Practical exploration route
This route is particularly useful for players mapping Central Hyrule systematically. Lightroots and shrines form a practical paired-navigation system because each Surface shrine has a corresponding underground Lightroot.
---
For a straightforward completion route
- 01Find Kamizun Shrine in Hyrule Field.
- 02Place a Surface marker on the shrine.
- 03Switch to the Depths map and place the corresponding marker beneath it.
- 04Enter from a nearby chasm.
- 05Travel towards Nuzimak while lighting the ground conservatively.
- 06Activate the Lightroot.
- 07Scan the newly revealed map for separate nearby landmarks.
- 08Return to the Surface if your Gloom damage, healing supplies or weapons are becoming a problem.
- 09Re-enter using Nuzimak Lightroot as a fast-travel point.
Hazards and useful precautions
The principal hazard is not a special trap at the Lightroot itself, but the general condition of the Depths.
Darkness
Before activation, the area may be difficult to navigate. Brightbloom Seeds provide temporary illumination, but they do not reveal the map permanently.
Gloom
Gloom can reduce Link’s maximum hearts. The activated Lightroot’s light restores the ability to recover those affected hearts nearby, but it does not make all underground travel harmless. Meals and armour remain useful during the approach.
Navigation errors
The Lightroot’s coordinates can appear slightly different between guides. One reference gives the travel point as approximately −0179, −1559, −0494, while others list −0178, −1559, −0473 or −0178, −1559, −0473. The discrepancy is best treated as a difference in the point measured, such as the activation platform, travel gate or structure height, rather than as evidence of separate locations.
Nearby encounters
Enemies encountered while approaching Nuzimak Lightroot belong to the surrounding Depths and should not be assumed to be a permanent Lightroot-specific encounter. The available dedicated pages do not document a boss or unique battle arena at the site.
---
Progression and missability
Nuzimak Lightroot is not tied to a known story gate. It can be activated whenever Link reaches it in the Depths.
Permanently missable content
No permanently missable reward or quest is verified for Nuzimak Lightroot.
Progression changes
Kamizun Shrine has its own completion state and reward, but shrine completion is separate from Lightroot activation.
---
Progression changes: The location’s main change is simple
| State | Effect |
|---|---|
| Inactive | Local area remains dark; no fast travel; map section unrevealed |
| Activated | Local area illuminated; map section revealed; Travel Point unlocked |
| Revisited | Fast travel available; Light continues to counter Gloom’s heart restriction nearby |
