Key takeaways
- Amakawis Lightroot is in the Gerudo Desert Depths, at approximately (-2439, -3343, -0465). Some map databases record nearby travel-gate coordinates slightly differently, so use the in-game map marker rather than relying on a single coordinate set.
- Its surface counterpart is Siwakama Shrine, near the East Barrens.
- The root lies close to the South Lomei Depths Labyrinth, but the labyrinth is a distinct named location with its own enemies, rewards and progression.
- A nearby Yiga Clan facility contains the Shock Trap Autobuild schematic It is south-west or north-west of the root depending on the source’s naming and map orientation, so follow the listed coordinates and visible Yiga structures rather than treating it as part of the Lightroot itself.
- Amakawis Lightroot is particularly useful as a navigation anchor when travelling between the East Gerudo Depths, the South Lomei area and the abandoned mines farther west.
- No unique boss, shop or permanent resident is documented as belonging to the Lightroot itself.
About this guide
Base game guide for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Spoilers: This guide discusses the Depths, the South Lomei Depths Labyrinth, Yiga Clan camps and Autobuild schematics.
Overview
Amakawis Lightroot is a Lightroot in the Gerudo Desert Depths, positioned beneath the eastern part of the Gerudo region. It is best understood as a compact Depths landmark and travel facility rather than a broad explorable region in its own right. The location consists primarily of the Lightroot and its immediate underground surroundings. Nearby places, including the South Lomei Depths Labyrinth and a Yiga Clan Relay Base, are separate locations and should not be treated as subareas of Amakawis Lightroot itself.
Activating Amakawis Lightroot illuminates part of the surrounding Depths map, creates a Travel Point and restores Link’s maximum hearts from Gloom while he stands within its light. Its surface counterpart is Siwakama Shrine, whose name is the reverse, or anadrome, of “Amakawis”.
Location and boundaries
Amakawis Lightroot is a single point of interest in the Gerudo Desert Depths. It is not the name of the whole surrounding underground region, nor does it include every nearby landmark. The broader area contains several independent locations, including:
This distinction matters because the South Lomei Depths Labyrinth has its own internal layout, progression conditions, treasure and boss encounter. It is near Amakawis Lightroot, but it is not a child area of the Lightroot.
The root itself is recognisable from a distance by its large glowing bulb and surrounding pale root structure. Before activation, the area is dark and the Lightroot appears as a bright landmark in the underground gloom. After activation, its light spreads over the nearby terrain and reveals the local section of the Depths map.
Functions and services
Map illumination
Interacting with Amakawis Lightroot reveals the surrounding underground map on the Purah Pad. Like other Lightroots, it works as a local equivalent of a Skyview Tower, although its map coverage is limited to the surrounding Depths rather than the Surface or Sky.
Lightroots are also useful as a method of discovering the Depths. Each Lightroot corresponds to a Shrine of Light on the Surface, and the names are generally reversed versions of each other. Amakawis Lightroot therefore corresponds to Siwakama Shrine.
Travel Point
Once activated, Amakawis Lightroot becomes a fast-travel destination. This makes it a convenient staging point for several nearby activities:
Gloom recovery
Standing within the Lightroot’s illumination restores Link’s maximum hearts that have been damaged by Gloom, functioning in this respect like safe light on the Surface. It does not act as a bed, cooking station or healing shop, so ordinary lost hearts still require food, a bed or another healing method.
Surface connection: Siwakama Shrine
Amakawis Lightroot is directly associated with Siwakama Shrine on the Surface. The shrine is located in the East Barrens area of the Gerudo region, and its underground counterpart occupies the corresponding Depths position.
This relationship gives you a practical method for locating the root:
The method is not a substitute for checking the terrain. Underground cliffs, bodies of Gloom and isolated walls can make a direct route impractical. Nevertheless, the Surface shrine correspondence is a reliable starting point for map navigation.
Surface connection: Siwakama Shrine: steps
- 01Open the Surface map.
- 02Locate Siwakama Shrine.
- 03Switch to the Depths map.
- 04Mark the corresponding point underground.
- 05Travel from a nearby chasm or Lightroot.
Nearby named locations
The following are the principal independently named locations relevant to the area.
South Lomei Depths Labyrinth
The South Lomei Depths Labyrinth is the most important nearby landmark. It is a large underground maze beneath the South Lomei surface and sky structures. It should be treated as a separate location, not as an extension of Amakawis Lightroot.
The labyrinth is connected to the wider South Lomei progression sequence. Depending on your progress, access to the Depths section may be tied to completing the relevant Surface and Sky stages first. The underground labyrinth contains its own hazards, treasure and a Flux Construct encounter. A documented reward in the Depths labyrinth is the Evil Spirit Armor, obtained after defeating its Flux Construct III.
The Lightroot is useful when tackling the labyrinth because:
Relay Base
A Relay Base lies south of Amakawis Lightroot. This is a separate underground facility associated with Yiga Clan activity and an Autobuild schematic. The structure is not a shop or ordinary stable, despite its name, and should not be confused with the horse stables found on the Surface.
The Relay Base contains the Shock Trap schematic. Available location lists place the schematic at approximately (-2694, -2882, -0467), described as north-west of Amakawis Lightroot in one source, while another source lists the broader Relay Base as south of the root. These descriptions appear to use different reference points or map labelling conventions, so the coordinates and visible Yiga construction are the safer guides.
Autobuild schematic: Shock Trap
The nearby Yiga facility provides the Shock Trap Autobuild schematic. It is a combat-oriented construction that uses shock-emitting components to damage or disable enemies who approach the trap.
The schematic is not obtained by activating Amakawis Lightroot. Instead, you must travel to the nearby Yiga facility, enter the compound and deal with the Yiga Clan member guarding the area. A location guide describes the camp as south of Amakawis Lightroot and west of the South Lomei Depths Labyrinth.
Suggested acquisition route
The schematic is fixed content, not a random drop. The nearby Yiga guards are ordinary hostile encounters and should not be confused with a regional boss.
Suggested acquisition route
- 01Activate Amakawis Lightroot first.
- 02Use the newly revealed map to identify the nearby Yiga facility.
- 03Approach carefully, as the structure may contain Yiga guards and obstructing metal platforms.
- 04Use Ultrahand to move or reposition the platforms where necessary.
- 05Defeat the Yiga Clan member.
- 06Collect the schematic from the facility.
- 07Register the Shock Trap in Autobuild if it is not already available.
Recommended access routes
From the East Gerudo Chasm
The East Gerudo Chasm is a natural entry route for reaching this part of the Depths. After descending:
This is the simplest approach if Amakawis is one of your first Lightroots in the southern Gerudo underground.
From the South Lomei area
If you are already exploring the South Lomei complex, Amakawis Lightroot is a natural nearby destination. Activate it before beginning a prolonged underground search. The root gives you a reliable return point if you need:
From another Gerudo Lightroot
Amakawis is part of a wider chain of travel points across the Gerudo Desert Depths. The surrounding Gerudo Lightroots include Gataharak, Gonatoyrim, Gonatoyros, Kasari, Mihcihc, Rasinaduk and Tatayam. These are separate locations rather than subareas of Amakawis Lightroot.
From the East Gerudo Chasm
- 01Deploy a Brightbloom Seed or use another light source.
- 02Check the Depths map for the direction of Amakawis Lightroot.
- 03Avoid unnecessary fights while the area is still dark.
- 04Travel towards the visible Lightroot glow.
- 05Activate the root before exploring farther.
Hazards
Darkness
Before activation, the surrounding Depths are difficult to read. Brightbloom Seeds, glowing armour, light-producing Zonai devices and other illumination methods can help, but the Lightroot itself is the most useful permanent solution.
Gloom
Gloom pools and Gloom-covered ground can reduce Link’s maximum hearts. Avoid crossing large patches without a clear reason. If you are affected, return to Amakawis Lightroot’s illumination to restore the damaged portion of your maximum health.
Uneven terrain
The area around the root contains underground cliffs and irregular terrain. A straight line on the map does not necessarily represent a walkable route. Ascend is useful where the ceiling allows it, while a Zonai vehicle can make the open stretches more manageable.
Yiga Clan hostility
The nearby Yiga facility is a combat zone. Yiga foot soldiers can use ambushes, concealment and ranged attacks. If you are only travelling to the Lightroot, activate it before investigating nearby structures so that a defeat does not force you to repeat the whole approach.
Enemies and encounters
No unique boss is documented as part of Amakawis Lightroot itself. The Lightroot is a facility and navigation point rather than a dungeon or combat arena.
The Flux Construct III belongs to the South Lomei Depths Labyrinth, not to Amakawis Lightroot. Defeating it is part of the labyrinth’s own reward sequence.

Lore and design notes
Amakawis Lightroot illustrates one of the central structural ideas of Tears of the Kingdom: the Surface, Sky and Depths are linked through geography without being identical spaces. Its connection to Siwakama Shrine provides a direct vertical relationship, while the nearby South Lomei Depths Labyrinth demonstrates how the game can place a major underground challenge close to, but distinct from, a simple navigation facility.
The name pairing is also part of the wider Lightroot naming pattern. “Amakawis” is the reversed form of “Siwakama”, making the relationship between the two locations visible even before the player compares their positions on the map.
