Note
Base game guide. This article covers Mayahisik Shrine, its shrine interior, and the connected Retsam Forest Cave route in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It does not treat the wider Hateno Village area as part of the shrine, although the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab is the main story and navigation connection.
Overview
Mayahisik Shrine is a hidden Shrine of Light in East Necluda, concealed inside Retsam Forest Cave below and north-west of the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. It is a Rauru’s Blessing shrine, so the challenge is not inside the shrine itself. Instead, the exploration challenge is finding and entering the cave, with the shrine becoming the reward at the end of the route.
The shrine is closely associated with the Hateno Village Research Lab Side Adventure. After Robbie installs the Shrine Sensor on the Purah Pad, the sensor guides Link towards the cave. However, the shrine can also be found without relying on the Sensor by locating the cave entrance below the research lab and breaking through the rocks blocking it.
Overview and location boundaries
Mayahisik Shrine is not an exposed structure on the surface. Its entrance is in Retsam Forest Cave, a short distance north-west of the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. The lab stands on the high ground above the cave, making it the most recognisable landmark when approaching the area.
The shrine’s practical area consists of three connected parts:
The Hateno Ancient Tech Lab is an important access point and quest location, but it is not part of the shrine itself. Likewise, Hateno Village is a separate settlement in the surrounding East Necluda region. The shrine guide should therefore not be read as a guide to all of Hateno Village, its shops, residents or nearby shrines.
Connected but separate places
The shrine is one of the surface shrines listed in the Necluda group. Other East Necluda shrines, including Zanmik Shrine, Anedamimik Shrine and Jogou Shrine, are separate locations and are not included in this guide.

Access and routes
Intended quest route: Hateno Village Research Lab
The clearest intended route is connected to the Hateno Village Research Lab Side Adventure.
Before Robbie can upgrade the Purah Pad in Hateno, the relevant earlier progression must have moved him from Lookout Landing to the Hateno research facility. Once Link reaches the lab and speaks with Robbie, Robbie installs the Shrine Sensor. The Sensor produces a signal when Link is moving towards an undiscovered shrine, with the sound becoming more frequent as Link gets closer.
The Sensor is helpful but not an absolute requirement for discovering the shrine. A player who already knows the location can go directly to Retsam Forest Cave and search for the entrance.
Alternative route from Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower
Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower provides a convenient aerial approach. Launch from the tower and glide south towards the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. From there, descend towards the cave entrance.
This route is particularly useful if the lab has not yet been visited, although the exact ease of the glide depends on stamina, weather, equipment and the player’s chosen launch direction. Game8 specifically recommends gliding south from Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower to reach the lab area.
Direct ground approach
If approaching from Hateno Village, climb towards the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab and then descend from the laboratory’s hill towards the cave. The cave entrance is blocked by breakable rocks. Bomb Flowers, a suitable weapon, or Yunobo can be used to clear the obstruction.
Recommended equipment
No special armour, elemental resistance or Sage ability is required for the shrine itself. For the approach, it is sensible to carry:
The available guides confirm the rock blockage and the need to proceed through the cave, but they do not establish a fixed enemy roster or a required combat loadout for Retsam Forest Cave. Do not treat a particular cave-enemy list as guaranteed content.

Intended quest route: Hateno Village Research Lab: Follow these steps
- 01Travel to the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab.
- 02Speak with Robbie inside the lab.
- 03Receive the Shrine Sensor upgrade for the Purah Pad.
- 04Move around the lab as instructed until the Sensor points towards the shrine.
- 05Leave the lab and descend the western or north-western slope.
- 06Look for the cave entrance below the hill.
- 07Break the rocks blocking the entrance.
- 08Follow the Sensor through Retsam Forest Cave.
- 09Activate Mayahisik Shrine when you reach it.
- 10Enter the shrine, open the chest and examine the altar.
Retsam Forest Cave
Retsam Forest Cave is the shrine’s access subarea and the main reason Mayahisik is easy to miss. The cave entrance is not at the laboratory door. It is lower down the hill, behind a group of breakable rocks.
Once inside, proceed deeper through the cave. The shrine is located within the cave system rather than at the entrance, so activating the shrine terminal is useful even if the player does not immediately intend to complete it. Doing so creates a fast-travel point and prevents the route from needing to be repeated.
Cave navigation tips
The published walkthroughs agree that the cave entrance is blocked by rocks and that the shrine is found by continuing deeper inside. They do not provide evidence for a separate named cave boss, fixed treasure catalogue or unique cave facility, so none is claimed here.

Mayahisik Shrine walkthrough
Shrine type: Rauru’s Blessing
Mayahisik Shrine is a Rauru’s Blessing shrine. This means the environmental or navigation challenge occurs outside the shrine, while the interior contains a reward chest and the altar.
There is no device puzzle, construction puzzle, enemy gauntlet or timed trial inside Mayahisik Shrine.
Step-by-step completion
Game8, Neoseeker and PowerPyx all describe the same basic structure: Mayahisik is a Rauru’s Blessing shrine, the chest contains a Magic Scepter, and the altar awards a Light of Blessing.
Interior inventory
The Magic Scepter is not a random drop. It is the fixed chest reward for this shrine. The Light of Blessing is likewise the standard fixed reward for completing the shrine.
---
Step-by-step completion
- 01Activate the shrine terminal outside. Examine the glowing terminal at the shrine entrance to register Mayahisik Shrine as a travel point.
Step-by-step completion
- 01Enter the shrine. The chamber is short and straightforward.
Step-by-step completion
- 01Open the treasure chest. The chest is positioned ahead of Link, close to the altar area.
Step-by-step completion
- 01Collect the Magic Scepter. This is the shrine’s fixed chest reward.
Step-by-step completion
- 01Approach the altar. Examine the glowing altar at the far end of the chamber.
Step-by-step completion
- 01Collect the Light of Blessing. The shrine is complete once the Light of Blessing has been awarded.
Interior inventory
| Location | Item | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Shrine chest | Magic Scepter | Fixed reward |
| Shrine altar | Light of Blessing | Fixed completion reward |
Associated mission and progression
Hateno Village Research Lab
Mayahisik Shrine is used as the practical test location for the Shrine Sensor during the Hateno Village Research Lab Side Adventure.
The shrine itself remains available outside the mission. It is not permanently locked behind the Side Adventure, and it can be completed once found through ordinary exploration.
Progression state and missability
There is no known permanent missability trigger for Mayahisik Shrine. The following conditions affect access or convenience rather than permanently removing content:
The available sources do not establish any alternate reward, failed-state consequence or permanently missable item connected to this shrine.
---
People and characters
Only one named character is directly associated with Mayahisik Shrine’s intended discovery route.
Robbie
Robbie is the researcher who upgrades the Purah Pad with the Shrine Sensor at the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. During the research-lab sequence, he directs Link to test the Sensor by following its signal towards the shrine.
Character directory
The broader Hateno area contains other named characters, but they are not established by the researched shrine sources as residents or visitors within Mayahisik Shrine or Retsam Forest Cave. They are therefore excluded from this local directory.
---
Enemies, bosses and hazards
Confirmed hazards
The shrine chamber itself contains no combat encounter. The cave route may require care with movement and visibility, but the consulted guides do not establish a fixed enemy encounter or boss as part of the shrine’s required route. This distinction matters because enemy placements elsewhere in Hyrule, including nearby East Necluda, should not automatically be attributed to Retsam Forest Cave.
---
Items and collectibles
Other collectibles
The consulted location-specific sources do not provide a verified, comprehensive list of Korok Seeds, treasure chests, Bubbul Gems, ore deposits or other collectible placements within Retsam Forest Cave. Their absence from this guide is therefore an evidence limitation, not a claim that no such content exists.
No unverified cave inventory is included.

Suggested exploration routes
Completion route
For a clean regional sweep, use Mayahisik Shrine as a travel point before exploring the surrounding East Necluda shrines. Do not assume that activating Mayahisik accounts for the nearby Zanmik Shrine or any other Hateno-area shrine. Shrine directories list these as separate locations.
