Key takeaways
- Jochi-iu Shrine is in North Akkala Foothill, just north-east of East Akkala Stable.
- Its map coordinates are approximately 4347, 2876, 0179, although guides may show slightly different values depending on the point measured.
- The trial, Courage to Pluck, requires Ultrahand Recall is useful but not essential if the tower is handled carefully.
- The shrine contains two chests a Zonaite Bow and Large Zonaite.
- The main objective is to use loose tower blocks to reconnect an electrical circuit, ride the moving platform and place the large orb into its receptacle.
- Completing the shrine awards one Light of Blessing and turns the entrance into a fast-travel point.
Overview
Jochi-iu Shrine, also known by its trial name Courage to Pluck, is a Shrine of Light in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It is found in the North Akkala Foothill area of Deep Akkala, close to East Akkala Stable and the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab. The shrine’s challenge is a careful Ultrahand puzzle built around a tall stack of wooden blocks. You must remove selected blocks without bringing the tower down, restore an electrical connection, retrieve an orb and open two treasure chests before claiming the shrine’s Light of Blessing.
This guide covers the shrine itself and its immediate approach. East Akkala Stable, the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, Sinatanika Shrine and the wider Deep Akkala region are neighbouring locations, not subareas of Jochi-iu Shrine.
Location and boundaries
Jochi-iu Shrine stands in the north-eastern part of Hyrule, on the North Akkala Foothill. It is close enough to East Akkala Stable that the stable is the most useful ground-level landmark. The shrine is also near the route leading towards the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab.
Jochi-iu Shrine is not a shrine quest or crystal-delivery shrine. Unlike some nearby Akkala shrines, the entrance is available directly once you reach it. No named NPC, quest chain or regional story progression is required to enter.
Named location directory
The directory deliberately separates the shrine from its neighbouring locations. The stable and tech lab help orient the player, but they do not form part of the shrine’s interior or puzzle.

Reaching Jochi-iu Shrine
The easiest approach is from East Akkala Stable. From the stable, follow the road northwards and look for the shrine in the surrounding foothill terrain. Another practical route is to travel north from Sinatanika Shrine, which is also connected to the local road network.
There are no special clothing, weather, stamina or quest requirements for the approach. The main practical concern is that Deep Akkala contains ordinary overworld hazards and enemies, so arriving with a few weapons and healing items is sensible. Those threats belong to the surrounding region rather than to the shrine itself.
Suggested approach route

You can also reach the shrine by
- 01travelling overland from the Akkala region;
- 02gliding from a nearby elevated position;
- 03using an existing fast-travel point in north-eastern Hyrule;
- 04approaching from the air and landing near the shrine entrance.
Suggested approach route
- 01Fast-travel to East Akkala Stable if it is already unlocked.
- 02Leave the stable and take the road north.
- 03Use the shrine’s green glow as your visual guide.
- 04Activate the shrine before entering.
- 05If you want to minimise backtracking, prepare a weapon with decent durability and keep Ultrahand readily available.
Interior layout and puzzle concept
The chamber opens into a large room containing a tall stack of rectangular wooden blocks. The tower resembles a Jenga structure, and the shrine’s name, Courage to Pluck, describes the central mechanic: remove particular pieces while keeping the remaining structure stable.
The shrine does not contain combat. There are no Constructs, traps that directly damage Link, or boss encounter. The danger is primarily structural: pulling the wrong block can cause the tower to collapse, potentially resetting the arrangement and making the intended sequence harder to follow.

Full walkthrough
1. Inspect the tower before touching it
From the entrance, look directly towards the wooden tower. The shrine is designed to reward observation. Before grabbing anything, identify:
There is more than one possible block sequence, but not every removal is equally safe. The safest solutions use edge pieces and avoid removing a central support too early.
2. Remove a safe lower block
Approach the tower and use Ultrahand on a suitable edge piece near the bottom. One documented route removes the edge piece from the lowest part of the stack and carries it up the ramp. Another route begins with a piece on the left side and uses Recall if the tower starts to shift. Both approaches are based on the same principle: remove a non-critical block without bringing the tower down.
Move the block away from the tower and place it on firm ground. Do not leave it balanced against the remaining stack, where it may interfere with later removals.
3. Open the Zonaite Bow chest
Use the removed block to make a temporary step or ramp towards the chest on the left side of the room. Attach or position the block so that Link can climb to the ledge safely.
The Zonaite Bow is a fixed shrine reward, not a random drop. Its attack value may be displayed differently depending on your game state, modifiers and equipment interface, but the item type is fixed.
After opening the chest, return the block to the puzzle area. You will need it for the circuit.
4. Restore the electrical connection
Carry the removed block to the right side of the main ramp, where the electrical wiring is interrupted. Place the block so that it bridges the gap between the powered section and the receiving section.
Next, remove another suitable block from the tower. The standard walkthrough describes taking a centre piece from the third row up from the bottom, though the exact piece can vary depending on which blocks you have already moved. Use it to complete the circuit.
When the connection is correct, the moving platform becomes active.
5. Ride the moving platform
Board the activated platform. It will pass close to the upper part of the puzzle structure.
Your immediate target is the large orb. You can grab the orb directly with Ultrahand as the platform passes, but this requires good timing. A more forgiving method is to attach the orb to a large block first, then move the block back towards the accessible side of the room.
If the orb begins to fall, use Recall if available. One solution uses Recall to pause the falling orb and return it to its earlier position, allowing it to be collected without restarting the whole sequence.
6. Place the orb in its receptacle
Carry the orb to the circular receptacle on the floor. Place it inside with Ultrahand.
This activates the mechanism and opens the gate to the altar. The orb is part of the fixed shrine puzzle. It is not a collectible that remains in your inventory.
Once the gate opens, you can proceed to the altar. However, there is still a second chest worth collecting.
7. Retrieve the Large Zonaite chest
The second chest is positioned high on or near the remaining block structure. The safest method is to dismantle the upper section gradually.
Remove blocks from the top down, placing each one on the ground before taking another. This reduces the chance that the tower will collapse onto the chest or reset your arrangement. Once the chest is exposed, use Ultrahand to pull it towards a safe, flat area.
Do not glide down directly onto the unstable tower. A hard landing can knock the structure over and force you to reconstruct the route to the chest.
8. Claim the Light of Blessing
Go through the opened gate and approach the altar. Examine it to complete the shrine and receive one Light of Blessing.

Rewards and collectibles
Fixed rewards
The Light of Blessing is awarded at the altar. The two material and equipment rewards come from the shrine’s two chests.
What can be missed?
The shrine does not appear to contain a permanently missable reward. Both chests remain available until opened, and completing the shrine does not remove access to the puzzle chamber before you leave.
The practical risk is not permanent loss but accidental resetting. If the tower collapses, you may need to repeat part of the block arrangement. For that reason, collect the chests before leaving rather than assuming you can return later for a quicker clean-up.
Collectible directory
No Korok Seed, Bubbul Gem, armour piece, Sage’s Will or quest crystal is documented as part of Jochi-iu Shrine itself.

Abilities and equipment
Ultrahand
Ultrahand is the key ability. It is used to:
Recall
Recall is not the core requirement, but it is highly useful if the orb begins falling or if a block moves in an unhelpful direction. It can give you another chance without requiring a complete restart.
Ascend and weapons
Neither Ascend nor a particular weapon is required by the documented solutions. A weapon can be useful for ordinary exploration around Akkala, but there is no combat inside the shrine.

Nearby connections
Jochi-iu Shrine is particularly useful as a travel marker because it sits between several important Deep Akkala destinations.
East Akkala Stable
East Akkala Stable is the closest major landmark and the most convenient starting point for an overland approach. It is a separate facility with its own stable services and NPC activity. It is not part of the shrine.
Akkala Ancient Tech Lab
The Akkala Ancient Tech Lab lies in the same broad north-eastern Akkala area. It is a separate building and progression location. The lab’s research, equipment and associated characters do not alter the Courage to Pluck puzzle.
Sinatanika Shrine
Sinatanika Shrine lies along a useful southern approach route. Travelling north from it provides another straightforward way to reach Jochi-iu Shrine. Sinatanika Shrine is a separate Shrine of Light with its own trial.
Ui-ihcoj Lightroot
Jochi-iu Shrine is associated with the named Depths location Ui-ihcoj Lightroot in regional shrine references. The Lightroot belongs to the Depths and is not an underground extension of the shrine’s interior. It has separate map, lighting and exploration conditions.
