Note
Apogek Shrine is a Shrine of Light in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Its trial, Wings on the Wind, teaches the player to use Zonai Wings, rails, Fans and updrafts to carry an Ancient Orb across a series of gaps. The shrine is on the southern side of Ja'Abu Ridge in the Lanayru Great Spring, south-east of East Reservoir Lake and near Zora's Domain.
Overview
This guide covers the base game version of Apogek Shrine. It treats the shrine itself as the main location, while also describing the immediate exterior landmarks and approach routes needed to find it. Nearby areas such as Zora's Domain, East Reservoir Lake, Brynna Plain and Mount Lanayru are connections rather than subareas of the shrine.

Overview
Apogek Shrine is a compact, two-stage traversal shrine. Rather than asking Link to build a complicated vehicle, it presents a controlled sequence of Wing-based problems:
The shrine is effectively divided into two interior rooms, although the second room contains both the chest route and the final altar route. The shrine’s Wing devices are repeatedly supplied, so a failed attempt does not permanently remove the equipment needed to continue. Zelda Wiki describes the location as a two-room traversal shrine with infinitely generating Wings and four Fans.
Scope and boundaries
The named location is Apogek Shrine, not the wider Lanayru Great Spring. The following places are relevant for navigation but are not internal subareas of the shrine:
The shrine’s corresponding Depths location is Kegopa Lightroot, but this is a separate underground location rather than a lower floor of Apogek Shrine.
Overview: steps
- 01Move an orb across a rail using a Wing.
- 02Open the route to the second room.
- 03Use an updraft to reach the higher section.
- 04Raise a Wing to the optional treasure chest.
- 05Attach a Fan to another Wing.
- 06Fly across the final gap to the altar.
Scope and boundaries
Location and exterior approach
Apogek Shrine is hidden beneath a rocky overhang on the southern side of Ja'Abu Ridge. From some northern approaches, the overhang and surrounding rock make the green shrine glow difficult to see. The shrine stands above the open ground around Brynna Plain and is close to the Lanayru coast.
The shrine is south-east of East Reservoir Lake and near Zora's Domain. The most direct aerial approach is to launch from Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower and glide generally north-west or west towards the shrine area, depending on the exact launch point and wind conditions. Guides also describe the location as north of Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower when viewed from the tower.
Suggested approach route
A ground approach from the Zora region is also possible. Follow the terrain south-east from the East Reservoir Lake area and climb towards the cliffs overlooking Brynna Plain. The shrine is easier to identify from the ground once the player is close to the southern face of Ja'Abu Ridge.
Suggested approach route
- 01Travel to Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower if it is unlocked.
- 02Launch and scan the southern Lanayru Great Spring for the green shrine glow.
- 03Glide towards the Ja'Abu Ridge cliffs.
- 04Look beneath the rocky overhang rather than only on top of the ridge.
- 05Land on the ledge in front of the shrine and activate it.
- 06Enter once the shrine terminal has turned blue.

Access requirements
There is no separate shrine quest or story progression gate attached to Apogek Shrine. The shrine can be entered once Link reaches its exterior and activates it.
Useful abilities
The shrine’s main challenge assumes that Link understands how to place a Wing on rails and ride it. The optional chest route is much easier with Recall, although the chest area can also be approached through careful use of a Wing and paraglider.
Useful abilities
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Ultrahand | Required to pick up Wings, attach the orb and attach a Fan. |
| Recall | Particularly useful for reaching the optional chest by reversing the movement of a raised Wing. |
| Paraglider | Needed for the most reliable traversal between platforms and for recovering from awkward landings. |
Walkthrough
1. Carry the Ancient Orb across the first gap
At the start of the shrine, Link faces a gap with rails and a socket on the far side. Zonai Wings periodically travel through the room.
The Wing should carry both Link and the orb to the opposite side. Do not worry if the Wing lands awkwardly. The important objective is to reach the far platform with the orb intact.
2. Place the orb in the socket
This opens the gate to the larger second room. The orb is only needed for this opening mechanism. Once the gate has opened, leave it in the socket.
3. Ride the updraft to the upper platform
The next room contains a large gap, several rails and a strong vertical updraft.
The updraft is produced by a Zonai Fan. It is not necessary to construct a separate lift. Keep enough stamina available to glide to the platform, particularly if Link begins from a low position.
4. Collect the Strong Zonaite Spear
The shrine’s only treasure chest is on a high ledge to the left of the upper section. It contains a Strong Zonaite Spear.
The chest is positioned on the left side of the second room, above the main route. It is possible to overlook it because the altar route does not require visiting the ledge. The chest is not a random reward and does not change between attempts.
Alternative chest methods
Depending on Link’s equipment and positioning, the ledge can also be reached by:
Recall is normally the least wasteful option because it turns the Wing into a temporary lift without requiring additional device construction.
5. Build the final Wing
The ordinary Wings on the rails do not travel far enough to reach the altar platform. The solution is to give one a Fan for additional thrust.
The Fan should push the Wing towards the final platform. If it is attached backwards, the Wing may move away from the altar or fail to gain useful forward momentum.
Some walkthroughs describe attaching more than one Fan, while others complete the crossing with a single Fan. The exact handling depends on the Wing’s starting position and the direction of the device. A single correctly positioned Fan is generally sufficient for the intended route.
6. Cross to the altar
If the Wing begins to veer, Link can jump and use the paraglider to reach the far side. The final gap is the shrine’s main traversal test, but there is no combat penalty for falling. Link returns to the preceding area and can try again with another Wing.
7. Claim the Light of Blessing
At the far end, climb the short steps to the glowing altar and examine it. Completing the altar grants one Light of Blessing and completes Apogek Shrine.
1. Carry the Ancient Orb across the first gap
- 01Use Ultrahand to grab one of the passing Wings.
- 02Place it on the nearby floor or rail so it is easy to manipulate.
- 03Pick up the Ancient Orb.
- 04Attach the orb to the top of the Wing.
- 05Place the Wing on the central rails.
- 06Quickly jump on before it slides away.
- 07Ride the Wing across the gap.
2. Place the orb in the socket: After reaching the opposite platform
- 01Use Ultrahand to detach the orb from the Wing.
- 02Carry the orb to the socket.
- 03Place it into the receptacle.
3. Ride the updraft to the upper platform
- 01Move into the open section after the gate.
- 02Step into the updraft.
- 03Use the paraglider to rise.
- 04Land on the upper platform containing more Wings and Fans.
4. Collect the Strong Zonaite Spear: A reliable method is
- 01Take an unused Wing.
- 02Use Ultrahand to raise it towards the ledge beneath the chest.
- 03Move it as high as practical.
- 04Bring it back down without letting it fall away.
- 05Use Recall on the Wing.
- 06Jump onto it as it retraces its path upwards.
- 07Glide or jump from the Wing to the chest ledge.
- 08Open the chest.
5. Build the final Wing
- 01Pick up a Wing from the upper area.
- 02Pick up a Zonai Fan.
- 03Attach the Fan to the rear of the Wing.
- 04Check the Fan’s direction before launching.
6. Cross to the altar
- 01Place the Fan-powered Wing on the rail.
- 02Activate the Fan.
- 03Jump onto the Wing.
- 04Steer across the gap.
- 05Adjust the Wing gently rather than making large movements.
- 06Land on the platform beyond the gap.
Inventory and rewards
The Strong Zonaite Spear is a fixed chest reward, not a random drop. The Light of Blessing is the shrine-completion reward.
About the Strong Zonaite Spear
The spear is particularly appropriate for the shrine because the trial revolves around Zonai devices and construction. Its value depends on the player’s current weapon collection and Fusion materials, but it can be useful as a base weapon for Zonai-related fusions.
The chest is optional in the sense that it is not required to reach the altar. For shrine completion and full treasure collection, however, it should be opened before leaving.
Inventory and rewards
| Location | Item | Acquisition |
|---|---|---|
| Second room, upper-left ledge | Strong Zonaite Spear | Reach the chest using a raised Wing, Recall or an alternative Wing route |
| Final altar | Light of Blessing | Complete the Wings on the Wind trial |
Devices and puzzle objects
Zonai Wings
Wings are the shrine’s central mechanic. They can:
The shrine supplies repeated Wings, so the player is not expected to preserve one Wing through the whole trial.
Zonai Fans
Fans appear in the second room. They are used both as part of the updraft and for the final powered Wing. Their orientation matters. A Fan attached to the wrong end can send the vehicle in the wrong direction.
Ancient Orb
The orb is used only in the opening room. It must be attached to a Wing, transported across the gap and placed into the socket. It is not a collectible and does not leave the shrine as an inventory item.
Rails
The rails provide a guided launch path for the early Wing and the final vehicle. They are not merely decorative. Correct placement on a rail gives the Wing its initial movement and helps Link begin each crossing with enough momentum.
Enemies, hazards and failure states
Apogek Shrine contains no enemies or boss. The hazards are environmental:
A fall does not permanently remove the shrine’s devices. The shrine provides more Wings and Fans, allowing the player to reset the attempt. Link can also use the paraglider to recover from a poor launch if he remains close enough to a platform.
Practical checklist
On the world map, a completed shrine is marked as completed once the altar has been cleared. If the chest remains unopened, the shrine may still appear completed, so the chest should be checked separately if pursuing full treasure collection.
Nearby connections
Apogek Shrine is useful as a travel point in the eastern Lanayru Great Spring.
Zora's Domain
Zora's Domain lies to the north-west and is the most significant nearby settlement. It is a useful staging point for reaching the shrine from the ground, although the shrine itself is outside the settlement and is not part of Zora's Domain.
East Reservoir Lake
The shrine lies south-east of East Reservoir Lake. The lake is a useful map reference when searching from the Zora region.
Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower
The tower provides the quickest aerial approach for many players. From the launch platform, glide towards Ja'Abu Ridge and search beneath the southern cliff overhang.
Brynna Plain
The shrine overlooks or stands near the cliffs above Brynna Plain. The open plain makes the shrine’s general elevation easier to understand from the ground, but the shrine entrance remains tucked beneath the ridge.
Kegopa Lightroot
Kegopa Lightroot corresponds to Apogek Shrine in the Depths. This is a useful vertical-map relationship, but the Lightroot is a separate underground destination and should not be treated as a shrine subarea.
Lore and series context
Apogek Shrine is a Tears of the Kingdom Shrine of Light and has no verified appearance as the same named location in an earlier game. It should therefore be kept separate from similarly styled shrines in Breath of the Wild and from the broader series tradition of ancient puzzle shrines.
The trial’s design reflects Tears of the Kingdom’s expanded Zonai-device systems. Instead of relying on static environmental mechanisms alone, it asks the player to combine a transport device, a carried object and powered flight. The shrine therefore functions as a concentrated tutorial for Wing handling.
