Key takeaways

  • Zora’s Domain is a settlement, not the name of the whole Zora region Toto Lake, Mipha Court, Ploymus Mountain, East Reservoir Lake and the Ancient Zora Waterworks are separate locations.
  • The central story begins with the Sludge-Covered Statue Investigating it leads into the Domain’s main regional quest chain.
  • Mogawak Shrine is inside the Domain and serves as the settlement’s main fast-travel point. Its coordinates are approximately 3298, 0424, 0112.
  • The Cave Under Zora’s Domain is reached behind a waterfall below the settlement Its internal chasm descends to the Depths and connects with the Abandoned Lanayru Mine area.
  • The Zora Armour questline is tied to the Domain, but the armour pieces are obtained from different characters and nearby locations rather than from one single shop.
  • The Domain changes after the regional phenomenon is resolved The sludge threat is removed, the community returns to normal and additional activities and dialogue become available.

About this guide

Scope: This guide covers Zora’s Domain itself and its directly attached underground access, including the Cave Under Zora’s Domain and Chasm Under Zora’s Domain. It does not treat the entire Lanayru region as part of the Domain. Nearby but separate places such as Toto Lake, Upland Zorana Skyview Tower, Mipha Court, Ploymus Mountain, East Reservoir Lake, the Ancient Zora Waterworks and the Water Temple are discussed as connections rather than folded into the settlement itself.

Overview

Zora’s Domain is the capital and home of the Zora in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It stands in the Lanayru Great Spring, east of the Lanayru Wetlands, and remains one of Hyrule’s most distinctive settlements. Its architecture is built around flowing water, raised bridges, polished stone, waterfalls and broad aquatic chambers rather than conventional streets.

In Tears of the Kingdom, the Domain is affected by the Upheaval and by a persistent fall of filthy sludge. The pollution damages the Zora’s waterways, weakens the community and disrupts the region’s normal relationship with water. Arriving at the Domain therefore leads almost immediately into the Zora regional storyline, beginning with the investigation of the sludge-covered statue and eventually leading to Sidon’s confrontation with the source of the disaster.

The settlement is also a useful base for exploration. It has a shrine, an inn, shops, armour-related services, important story characters, multiple quests and a hidden cave containing a chasm to the Depths. The underground entrance is particularly easy to overlook because it is reached through a waterfall below the settlement rather than through an obvious surface pit.

From Lookout Landing and Lanayru Wetlands

The most natural early route is to travel east and north-east from Lookout Landing through the Lanayru Wetlands. Roads and bridges lead past wetland ruins, shallow water and marshy terrain before the landscape becomes more distinctly Zora in appearance.

Nintendo Life recommends following the bridges through the wetlands and notes that the architecture changes as the player gets closer to Zora’s Domain. Sludge becomes increasingly common on the route, making Splash Fruit and other water-based solutions useful.

A practical route is

  1. 01
Leave Lookout Landing towards the east.
  2. 02
    Continue through the Lanayru Wetlands.
  3. 03
Pass the Lanayru Wetlands Well and the Goponga Village Ruins area.
  4. 04
Follow the bridges and raised paths through the water.
  5. 05
Continue towards the increasingly ornate blue-white bridges.
  6. 06
Enter the Domain through the lower approach.

From the sky

The Domain can also be approached from above. The Upland Zorana Skyview Tower is the most useful nearby tower for revealing the surrounding region, although it is not inside Zora’s Domain. The tower’s position makes it a convenient way to survey the Domain, Upland Zorana and the surrounding waterways.

Gliding from nearby sky islands is possible, but the Domain’s elevated platforms and waterfalls can make a direct landing awkward. If the goal is simply to arrive safely, the lower road approach is easier. If the goal is exploration, approaching from above can reveal rooftops, pools, upper ledges and routes that are not obvious from ground level.

During the sludge crisis

Before the regional quest is resolved, sludge may block paths, cover water surfaces and obstruct objects. Splash Fruit can remove sludge from affected areas, while Sidon’s water ability becomes especially useful later in the quest. Do not assume that every polluted pool must be cleared immediately. Some sludge exists as environmental obstruction, while other blocked passages are connected to quest progression.

---

Lower entrance and bridges

The lower entrance is the first part of the Domain most visitors see. It connects the settlement to the surrounding wetlands and is also the area from which the underground waterfall route can be reached.

This section contains paths, shallow water, bridges and several NPCs who comment on the crisis. It is a useful place to familiarise yourself with the Domain’s vertical layout before beginning the main quest.

Central plaza and statue area

The statue associated with the main quest is located in the Domain’s public area. It becomes covered in sludge during the crisis. Speaking to the relevant local characters and examining the situation begins the investigation that leads to The Sludge-Covered Statue.

The statue also has a progression role. Clearing the sludge and advancing the investigation changes the available dialogue and opens the next stage of the regional storyline. The Domain’s early quest design deliberately uses a public landmark rather than sending Link directly to the throne room.

Throne room

The throne room is the royal centre of the Domain. King Dorephan is associated with this part of the settlement, although the player’s access to him during the regional quest is not always as straightforward as simply walking into the throne room and speaking to him.

Sidon is also closely associated with the royal district. Depending on quest progress, he may be in the Domain or at a nearby story location. His position changes as the regional quest advances, so a yellow quest marker is useful when the main quest is active.

Mogawak Shrine

Mogawak Shrine is located inside Zora’s Domain. Its trial is The Power of Water, and its reward structure includes a shrine treasure chest and a Light of Blessing. One listed chest reward is an Opal, with a Magic Scepter also associated with the shrine’s treasure.

The shrine is valuable even if the player is not currently pursuing the main story:

Inn

The Domain has an inn where Link can rest. Inns are functional services, not merely decorative buildings. Sleeping restores Link’s health and can provide temporary effects when an upgraded bed or special bed is available.

The Domain’s inn is also a useful staging point because it is close to the settlement’s central routes and quest characters. It should not be confused with the general shop or the armour-related facilities.

General store

The Domain has a general store. It sells practical consumables and materials rather than functioning as an armour shop. The store’s stock should be checked independently from the armour facilities, since a building or merchant associated with Zora goods does not automatically sell every Zora-themed item.

A general store directory lists a shop in Zora’s Domain, while broader shop lists distinguish it from the settlement’s armour-related services.

Armour services

Zora’s Domain is connected to the Zora Armour questline. The set is not simply bought from one ordinary armour merchant. Its pieces are recovered or restored through story-related interactions involving characters such as Yona and other Zora residents.

The armour is especially useful in the region because it improves swimming and water traversal. Its upgraded effects become more valuable as the player explores waterfalls, flooded caves and the Ancient Zora Waterworks.

General storeconsumables and ordinary goods.
Hammerheada Zora weapon-related service, not a standard armour shop.
Misko-related or treasure-based piecesseparate from the Domain’s own services.

Hammerhead and weapon crafting

Hammerhead is associated with Dento, the Zora craftsman. Dento can make or repair particular Zora weapons, most notably the Lightscale Trident, once the relevant requirements are met.

The Lightscale Trident is not simply a shop purchase. It is a crafted weapon requiring a base Zora spear and materials. The requirements include a Zora Spear, Flint and Diamonds. The weapon can be remade after breaking, but each replacement consumes the required materials again.

This service is significant because the Lightscale Trident has strong synergy with water-related combat and Zora weapons. However, its power is not a permanent free reward. The player must maintain the weapon through repeated crafting if it breaks.

---

King Dorephan

King Dorephan is the ruler of the Zora and the Domain’s monarch. He is central to the regional story and to the revelation surrounding the Zora’s crisis.

His location and availability are affected by story progression. If the throne room does not produce the expected conversation, follow the active quest marker and speak to local characters again. The game intentionally makes the king’s whereabouts part of the investigation rather than treating him as permanently stationed in one obvious spot.

Prince Sidon

Sidon is the central character of the Domain’s story. He leads the investigation into the sludge, works with Link to restore the region and eventually becomes a Sage.

The main story quest Sidon of the Zora begins after The Sludge-Covered Statue. Its objectives take Link beyond the Domain, including the search for evidence, the Ancient Zora Waterworks and the route towards the Water Temple.

After the relevant progression, Sidon’s ability creates a water barrier around Link and allows Link to launch a water attack. It is particularly useful for:

Yona

Yona is involved in the restoration of the Zora Armour. She is associated with the Domain’s recovery and becomes more important after the initial crisis has been investigated.

Her questline is not just a shop interaction. It involves finding missing or damaged armour components and returning them to the appropriate people. The player should speak to Yona at different stages rather than assuming that the full armour set becomes available at once.

Muzu

Muzu is a senior Zora who initially distrusts Link and is strongly affected by the memory of Mipha and the events of the previous game. His early dialogue reflects the political and emotional tension surrounding Sidon’s leadership and the pollution crisis.

Muzu’s attitude changes as the main quest progresses. He is therefore both an ordinary resident and a story gatekeeper.

Dento

Dento is the Domain’s weaponsmith. His key function is the creation of the Lightscale Trident. He should be treated as a specialist craftsman rather than a general merchant.

Other Zora residents

The Domain contains numerous unnamed or minor named Zora who provide:

Some NPCs move or alter their dialogue as quests advance. A pre-crisis visit and a post-crisis visit are therefore not identical.

---

The following names are the verified named locations and functional places directly associated with the Domain scope used in this guide.

Separate nearby places

Boundary note: The nearby list is deliberately not counted as part of Zora’s Domain. These places belong to the wider Lanayru and Upland Zorana area, or to the connected sky and Depths progression.

Zora’s Domain proper

Separate nearby places

The Sludge-Covered Statue

This is the opening Domain quest. The player encounters the statue affected by sludge and must help remove the contamination. The quest introduces the regional crisis and directs Link towards the people who can explain what is happening.

Practical approach

The quest is designed as an investigation rather than a combat challenge. If progress appears stalled, speak to the nearby Zora again after cleaning the statue.

Practical approach

  1. 01
Enter the Domain and inspect the polluted statue.
  2. 02
    Speak to nearby Zora residents.
  3. 03
Use a water-producing item such as Splash Fruit to remove sludge where required.
  4. 04
    Follow the resulting objective marker.
  5. 05
Return to the relevant characters to begin the next stage.

Sidon of the Zora

This is the principal Domain regional quest. It begins after the sludge statue sequence and eventually leads to the Water Temple. The quest includes investigation, travel through connected Zora locations, the Ancient Zora Waterworks and a sky-based route.

The quest is not restricted to the settlement. The Domain acts as the headquarters and narrative starting point, but much of the progression takes place outside it. The quest’s chain is commonly summarised as:

The main quest can be undertaken in a different order from the other Regional Phenomena quests. The game provides a suggested order, but it does not require the player to complete the Zora storyline at one fixed point.

Sidon of the Zora: steps

  1. 01
    Resolve the sludge-covered statue problem.
  2. 02
Find Sidon and learn what has happened.
  3. 03
Investigate the source of the pollution.
  4. 04
    Explore the Ancient Zora Waterworks.
  5. 05
Pursue the clues connected with the sky.
  6. 06
    Reach the Water Temple.
  7. 07
    Defeat the regional boss.
  8. 08
    Complete Sidon’s Sage-related progression.

Restoring the Zora Armour

This quest activity involves Yona and the Zora Armour set. It is best approached during or after the main Domain storyline, since dialogue and requirements are tied to progression.

The set is useful for swimming and waterfall traversal. The player should keep spare healing items and aquatic materials available, as several Zora-related areas involve water routes, vertical climbs and environmental hazards.

The Broken Slate and Clues to the Sky

These quest stages connect the Domain’s local crisis to the sky islands above Lanayru. They are not simply town errands. They explain how the Zora investigate ancient evidence and how the route to the Water Temple is found.

The story involves reading or repairing clues and interpreting a stone record. If the next objective is unclear, check the main quest marker and speak to characters in the Domain’s royal district.

The Fort at Ja’Abu Ridge

This is a later side quest associated with Zora’s Domain and the region after the main crisis has been resolved. It involves Gaddison and the Fort at Ja’Abu Ridge. Side-quest lists place it in the Domain’s post-crisis activity set.

The Moonlit Princess

This is another Domain-associated side quest. It is connected with the Zora’s interest in their history, landmarks and the legacy of Mipha. It becomes available after the appropriate progression and should not be expected during the first polluted-state visit.

Secret Treasure under the Great Fish

This quest is associated with Sidon and the Domain. Its name refers to the Great Fish landmark and it is separate from the main Water Temple route, although the same story characters and setting are involved.

Post-crisis activities

After the regional phenomenon is resolved, the Domain is not finished. Revisit the settlement and speak to characters who previously had crisis dialogue. Additional side quests, weapon services, armour conversations and changed environmental dialogue can become available.

---

This route avoids unnecessary backtracking while preserving optional exploration.

1. Activate Mogawak Shrine

Complete or at least enter Mogawak Shrine as soon as convenient. This creates a fast-travel point in the Domain and gives a reliable return route for later quests.

2. Inspect the public areas

Before following the main marker, walk around the lower bridges, central statue area, inn and shops. This reveals the Domain’s layout and allows you to identify which buildings are functional.

3. Clean the sludge-covered statue

Use Splash Fruit or another water-based solution where prompted. Continue speaking to the nearby characters until the quest advances.

4. Follow Sidon’s quest marker

Do not assume that Sidon will remain in the throne room. His location changes during the investigation. Use the active main quest marker and check the royal district whenever the objective updates.

5. Visit Yona and check the armour quest

If Yona offers a separate objective, accept it before leaving the region. This reduces the chance of forgetting the Zora Armour progression.

6. Explore the lower waterfall route

Before or after the main quest, travel below the Domain and search behind the waterfall for the Cave Under Zora’s Domain. Enter the cave far enough to register it and locate the Bubbulfrog.

7. Register the chasm separately

Walk to the Chasm Under Zora’s Domain and descend if you are prepared for the Depths. The chasm is a distinct map location and is easy to omit from a completion sweep.

8. Return after the regional boss

Revisit the throne room, statue area, shops and weapon services. The Domain’s state, dialogue and available activities change after the crisis ends.

---

The cave lies beneath the settlement’s approach and is accessed behind a waterfall. It is not the same location as Zora’s Domain, even though it is physically attached to the settlement’s route.

The chasm leads towards the Depths below Lanayru. The connected underground area includes the Abandoned Lanayru Mine, which is a separate Depths location. The cave is therefore useful for both map completion and underground exploration.

Descent checklist

Do not confuse the chasm with the ordinary cave entrance. For completion purposes, enter the cave, locate the Bubbulfrog and approach the chasm itself.

---

Sludge

Sludge is the Domain’s defining hazard during the regional storyline. It can block movement, contaminate water and obscure surfaces. Splash Fruit is the simplest early countermeasure.

Water traversal

Water is usually beneficial to Link’s Zora-related progression, but it can also make climbing difficult. Wet surfaces reduce climbing reliability, and polluted water may prevent normal swimming routes.

Vertical layout

The Domain’s raised architecture encourages climbing, gliding and careful use of bridges. Some upper ledges are easier to reach from a nearby waterfall or sky island than from the ground.

Gloom below the Domain

The chasm leads into the Depths, where gloom and darkness become significant hazards. The Surface’s bright blue-white architecture does not continue underground, so the player should prepare for a very different environment.

---

Mogawak Shrine’s listed rewards and location are documented in shrine-location references, while shop directories distinguish the Domain’s general store and Hammerhead weapon service.

---

Zora’s Domain carries forward its importance from Breath of the Wild, but Tears of the Kingdom changes the settlement’s political and emotional context.

Mipha’s memory remains important. The Domain’s statues, characters and dialogue continue to reflect her legacy, while Sidon now occupies a more active leadership role. The change from Mipha’s statue to the statue known as The Turning Tide reflects the shift towards Link and Sidon’s shared history during the events surrounding Divine Beast Vah Ruta.

The Domain’s crisis also has a strong thematic link with its identity. Water is normally the source of Zora life, travel and power. In the polluted state, the same water becomes dangerous and unusable. The regional quest therefore does not merely ask Link to defeat a monster. It asks him to restore the environmental system on which the settlement depends.

The settlement’s progression states can be summarised as follows:

Is Toto Lake part of Zora’s Domain?

No. Toto Lake is a nearby but separate location in the wider Zora region. It is important to the regional quest, but it should not be merged into the settlement’s boundary.

Is Mipha Court inside the Domain?

No. Mipha Court is a separate landmark on Ploymus Mountain. It is closely connected with Zora history and the previous game, but it is not a district of the Domain.

Where is the underground entrance?

Look behind a waterfall below the Domain’s lower approach. This leads to the Cave Under Zora’s Domain, which contains the separate Chasm Under Zora’s Domain.

Why can I not find King Dorephan?

His story location changes during the investigation. Follow the current main quest marker and speak to Zora residents again after each major objective.

Does the Domain have an armour shop?

It has armour-related services and the Zora Armour questline, but the set is not simply purchased in one standard armour shop. Yona and other story characters are involved in restoring or obtaining its pieces.

Can I reach the Water Temple directly from the Domain?

The Domain is the starting point for the quest, but the route is progression-based. You must investigate the sludge crisis, follow Sidon’s objectives, resolve the Ancient Zora Waterworks sequence and uncover the clues leading to the sky route.

Is the Chasm Under Zora’s Domain the same as the cave?

No. The cave is the enclosing location. The chasm is a separate discoverable entrance inside it and leads to the Depths.

---

This guide treats the settlement, its attached cave and its attached chasm as the main scope. A complete map-completion directory for the wider Upland Zorana and Lanayru Great Spring would require a separate regional guide covering every cave, Korok, shrine, enemy camp, material deposit, sky-island feature and Depths location in that larger area.

The available sources also differ in how they classify small architectural labels. Some databases count buildings such as the throne room, shops and statue areas as points of interest, while others list only map-registering locations. For that reason, named directories above separate functional settlement places from nearby map locations rather than claiming that every architectural feature is an independent map marker.

No attempt has been made to assign unsupported coordinates to minor buildings or NPCs. The only coordinate stated here is the commonly listed location for Mogawak Shrine.
