Key takeaways
- Kegopa Lightroot is in the Lanayru Great Spring Depths, not on the surface and not inside the Abandoned Lanayru Mine.
- Its corresponding surface location is Apogek Shrine.
- The commonly listed coordinates are approximately 3886, -0216, -0629, although some location directories give slightly different vertical values. Treat the map marker and visible Lightroot as more reliable than a single coordinate listing.
- The most distinctive approach is from Takaruk Lightroot, following the line of statues used during the East Hill Chasm route of Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan.
- Kegopa Lightroot has no confirmed shop, forge, resident NPC, boss arena or separate named subarea within its immediate boundaries.
- The nearby Ruto Canyon Mine and Kawagom Lightroot belong to the wider route and should not be treated as part of Kegopa Lightroot itself.
About this guide
Spoiler warning: This guide discusses the Depths, the Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan Side Adventure, the Abandoned Lanayru Mine route and nearby Depths landmarks. It does not cover the full Lanayru Great Spring Depths region.
Overview
Kegopa Lightroot is a fast-travel and map-unlocking point in the Lanayru Great Spring Depths, in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It lies along the eastern route of the Depths statue trail that begins near East Hill Chasm and leads towards the Abandoned Lanayru Mine. Its surface counterpart is Apogek Shrine, although the two locations are separate spaces and must be visited independently.
The Lightroot itself is a small, functional location rather than a settlement or dungeon. Its importance comes from its position on a long Depths journey. Activating it illuminates the surrounding map, provides a permanent Travel Point and gives players a useful staging point between the East Hill Chasm route and the eastern Lanayru mines. It is especially relevant during the Lanayru branch of the Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan Side Adventure.
Location and boundaries
Kegopa Lightroot is an isolated Lightroot installation in the eastern part of the Lanayru Great Spring Depths. The location should be defined narrowly: it consists of the Lightroot structure and its immediate landing area, not the whole surrounding Depths route.
The region around it includes several separate named places. The most important nearby locations are Takaruk Lightroot, the Ruto Canyon Mine, Kawagom Lightroot and, farther east, the Abandoned Lanayru Mine. These are connected by travel routes and quest progression, but they are not component parts of Kegopa Lightroot. The statue trail passes through or near these places, which can make the whole route appear to be one continuous location on an in-game map.
The Lightroot is positioned in an area of uneven Depths terrain, with steep surfaces, open gloom-covered ground and routes that are easier to follow when the surrounding map has been illuminated. Its value is therefore primarily navigational. It is a waypoint in a large underground journey rather than a destination with a large amount of unique content.

What Kegopa Lightroot does
Activating Kegopa Lightroot provides the standard Lightroot benefits:
The location does not function as a village, stable or settlement. There is no verified evidence that it offers cooking, item selling, armour upgrades, weapon repair, a Forge Construct or a Bargainer Statue directly at the Lightroot. The name of a nearby mine or route should not be taken as proof that services are available at Kegopa itself.
What Kegopa Lightroot does: steps
- 01It illuminates the surrounding Depths.
- 02It reveals local map data.
- 03It becomes a Travel Point.
- 04It helps restore Link’s maximum hearts if they have been reduced by Gloom, provided the usual Lightroot healing interaction is available.
Access routes
Route 1: From East Hill Chasm
This is the most important route associated with Kegopa Lightroot.
East Hill Chasm is northeast of Kakariko Village. After descending, activate Takaruk Lightroot if it has not already been activated. From there, look for the nearby statue and follow the sequence of statues through the Depths. The statues act as directional markers, leading generally east and then south-east towards the Lanayru mines.
This route is safer and easier to navigate than attempting to fly or climb directly to Kegopa Lightroot in total darkness. The statues are particularly useful before the area has been illuminated.
Route 2: From the Lanayru Wetlands route
The Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan Side Adventure offers another route towards the Abandoned Lanayru Mine from the Lanayru Wetlands area. That route uses Uasnoj Lightroot, Sekioam Lightroot and Uinoj Lightroot, with the statue trail eventually leading towards the eastern mine. Kegopa Lightroot belongs to the East Hill Chasm branch rather than being the essential waypoint for the Wetlands branch.
This distinction matters because players following the wrong statue chain may reach the same broad objective from a different direction. The Lanayru Wetlands route and the East Hill Chasm route are related approaches to the Abandoned Lanayru Mine, not two entrances into Kegopa Lightroot.
Route 3: From another activated Lightroot
Once any nearby Lightroot has been activated, the simplest method is usually to fast-travel to it and travel overland through the illuminated Depths. If Kegopa Lightroot has already been activated, it is itself a useful launch point for returning to the surrounding mines or continuing exploration.
Route 1: From East Hill Chasm: A practical route is
- 01Enter the Depths through East Hill Chasm.
- 02Activate Takaruk Lightroot.
- 03Locate the statue near Takaruk Lightroot.
- 04Follow the next statues rather than travelling directly across unlit terrain.
- 05Use Kegopa Lightroot as an intermediate waypoint.
- 06Continue beyond the Lightroot towards the Ruto Canyon Mine and Kawagom Lightroot.
- 07Proceed towards the Abandoned Lanayru Mine if following the quest route.
The statue trail and Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan
Kegopa Lightroot is most closely connected with the East Hill Chasm section of Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan. During this Side Adventure, the player follows a sequence of large statues through the Depths. On the eastern branch, the statues guide Link from the East Hill Chasm area towards the Abandoned Lanayru Mine. Kegopa Lightroot is one of the Lightroots encountered along that journey.
The route is not simply a straight line between two quest markers. The statue sequence is designed to provide a visual trail through a dark, open environment. If the player loses sight of the next statue, it is usually better to climb to a high point, activate a nearby Lightroot or use the map rather than blindly crossing the darkness.
Kegopa Lightroot does not host a separate Master Kohga battle. The important confrontation for this branch takes place later at the Abandoned Lanayru Mine. Kegopa is a navigation and illumination point on the way there, not the quest’s final arena.
Suggested exploration route
For a first visit, the following order is practical:
This route is also useful for general Depths exploration because activating Kegopa Lightroot reduces the amount of unlit territory between the East Hill Chasm area and the Lanayru mines.
Suggested exploration route: steps
- 01Prepare on the surface. Bring Brightbloom Seeds, arrows, Gloom-resistant food or Sundelion meals, and a few stamina-restoring items.
- 02Enter through East Hill Chasm.
- 03Activate Takaruk Lightroot. This makes the first section much easier to read.
- 04Follow the statues. Avoid assuming that the most visible cliff or glowing object marks the correct route.
- 05Activate Kegopa Lightroot.
- 06Pause and check the map. Confirm that the surrounding terrain has been revealed and mark any mine entrances or points of interest.
- 07Continue towards Ruto Canyon Mine and Kawagom Lightroot if following the quest path.
- 08Reach the Abandoned Lanayru Mine for the later quest encounter.
- 09Return by fast travel if the area is fully explored and there is no reason to retrace the entire statue trail.
Geography and navigation
The immediate area around Kegopa Lightroot is typical of the open Depths rather than a constructed underground settlement. The major navigational challenges are darkness, vertical terrain and the difficulty of judging distances before the map is illuminated.
The statue trail gives the area a stronger sense of direction than many other Depths zones. However, the statues do not remove every navigation problem. A player can still miss a statue if they travel along a low route, glide past it or approach from the wrong side of a ridge.
The Lightroot itself is easy to recognise once approached. Its glow is visible from a considerable distance in an otherwise dark area, and its activation point is directly at the base of the large luminous root structure.
Hazards
Gloom
The Depths floor around Kegopa Lightroot may contain Gloom. Contact with Gloom temporarily removes maximum hearts, and ordinary healing items do not immediately restore those lost heart containers. Activating the Lightroot helps counter this condition and restores the normal maximum-heart state within its influence.
Players making the East Hill Chasm journey should avoid treating the Lightroot route as harmless simply because it is part of a quest. Hostile enemies and Gloom patches may be positioned between statue markers.
Darkness
Before activation, the surrounding map is difficult to interpret. It is possible to reach Kegopa Lightroot without first illuminating the route, but doing so makes cliffs, water and enemy camps much harder to identify.
Brightbloom Seeds are the most reliable low-cost solution. Throwing a seed onto a wall or ceiling is often more efficient than scattering several on the ground, as the raised position gives a larger field of view.
Vertical terrain
The route between the East Hill Chasm branch and the eastern mines contains slopes and elevated sections. Climbing in the Depths is especially risky because a climb can end at a Gloom-covered ledge or leave Link without enough stamina to reach a safe surface.
Use ramps and statue-guided paths where possible. If climbing is necessary, restore stamina before beginning rather than relying on a single stamina wheel.
Enemies
Enemy encounters in the wider route may include ordinary Depths monsters and quest-related Yiga activity. The sources consulted identify the route and quest connections, but do not establish a fixed enemy roster that can safely be assigned to Kegopa Lightroot’s immediate boundaries. Enemy spawns should therefore be treated as local encounters in the surrounding Depths, not as permanent features of the Lightroot itself.
Items and collectibles
No unique item, fixed chest or collectible has been reliably established as being located directly within the boundaries of Kegopa Lightroot.
This is an important distinction from the wider route. The associated quest area around the Abandoned Lanayru Mine contains documented rewards and items, including a Huge Crystallized Charge and a Schema Stone after the relevant Master Kohga encounter, but those rewards belong to the mine sequence rather than to Kegopa Lightroot.
Not confirmed as part of Kegopa Lightroot itself
The absence of a source confirming an item should not be treated as proof that no item can ever appear nearby. Random enemy drops and ordinary resource deposits are not the same as fixed location content.
Residents, NPCs and services
Kegopa Lightroot has no verified permanent resident. It is not a settlement and does not have a named population.
The following entities are associated with the wider route, but should not be listed as residents of Kegopa Lightroot:
There is no evidence that Kegopa Lightroot itself provides:
Its principal service is the standard Lightroot function: illumination, map discovery and fast travel.
Nearby connections
Takaruk Lightroot
Takaruk Lightroot is the most useful western reference point for the East Hill Chasm route. The statue trail begins near it, and activating it before setting out makes the journey to Kegopa considerably easier.
Ruto Canyon Mine
Ruto Canyon Mine is a separate named Depths location on the statue route beyond Kegopa Lightroot. It should not be treated as a subarea of the Lightroot. The mine forms part of the broader eastern Lanayru journey and helps bridge the route towards Kawagom Lightroot and the Abandoned Lanayru Mine.
Kawagom Lightroot
Kawagom Lightroot is another separate Lightroot in the Lanayru Great Spring Depths. Guides place it near the Abandoned Lanayru Mine route, and it is a useful additional checkpoint when travelling east.
Abandoned Lanayru Mine
The Abandoned Lanayru Mine is the major destination associated with the East Hill Chasm branch of Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan. It is not part of Kegopa Lightroot, although the statue trail makes the locations feel closely connected. The mine contains the later quest encounter and additional quest rewards.
Surface counterpart: Apogek Shrine
Kegopa Lightroot corresponds to Apogek Shrine on the surface. This follows the general Depths design principle in which Lightroots correspond to surface Shrines, although they remain separate locations with separate activation requirements.
Activating Apogek Shrine does not activate Kegopa Lightroot automatically. The player must still reach the Lightroot in the Depths and interact with it. Conversely, activating Kegopa does not complete the surface shrine.
The correspondence is most useful for navigation. If Apogek Shrine is already visible on the surface map, its position can help estimate the broad location of Kegopa Lightroot below. It should not be used as an exact substitute for a Depths map marker, especially because elevation and terrain can make the underground route differ substantially from the surface path.
Coordinate notes
Several guides and map directories list slightly different coordinate values for Kegopa Lightroot. One detailed location page gives 3886, -0216, -0629, while another list gives 3889, -0227, -0609. A separate map dataset displays a different vertical value.
These differences are best treated as mapping or transcription variations rather than separate locations. The horizontal position is consistent enough to identify Kegopa Lightroot, while the vertical coordinate is less consistent between sources. For practical play, use the named map marker, the visible Lightroot glow and the statue trail rather than relying on a single numerical value.
