tikanuR Lightroot

Tikanur Lightroot is a fixed location in the Hyrule Ridge Depths in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Importancemajor

Key takeaways

  • Tikanur Lightroot is in the Hyrule Ridge Depths, not on the Surface and not in the Hebra Depths.
  • Its coordinates are approximately (-2529, 1170, -0644).
  • It corresponds to Runakit Shrine, whose Surface coordinates are approximately (-2530, 1169, 0178).
  • Activating it reveals the surrounding Depths map, creates a travel point and restores Link’s normal health state where Gloom has damaged it.
  • The Lightroot itself has no shop, resident NPC, quest giver, dungeon interior or unique reward.
  • The most useful route is to use Tikanur as part of a wider Hyrule Ridge Depths sweep, connecting it with nearby Lightroots such as Nabahi-ikat, Muzasu, Napanos and Sikurukam.

Note

This guide covers the individual Lightroot and its immediate connections only. It does not treat the whole Hyrule Ridge Depths as if it were part of Tikanur Lightroot.

Overview

Tikanur Lightroot is a fixed location in the Hyrule Ridge Depths in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It is the Depths counterpart of Runakit Shrine on the Surface. Activating it illuminates the surrounding underground map, removes Gloom damage from Link’s current health, and unlocks a fast-travel point for future exploration.

The name is sometimes written incorrectly as tikanuR Lightroot. The canonical English name is Tikanur Lightroot.

Tikanur is not a settlement, mine, dungeon or quest hub. Its importance is practical: it is a reliable navigation point in a relatively open section of the Depths, and it helps connect the underground map beneath the western Hyrule Ridge and Central Hyrule areas.

---

Overview

Tikanur Lightroot is one of the underground structures found throughout the Depths. Like other Lightroots, it appears as a large luminous root growing from the ground, usually visible from a considerable distance once Link is close enough. Interacting with its central pedestal activates the root and brightens a broad area around it.

The activation also records the location on the Depths map. This is especially valuable before the player has opened nearby map data, because the Depths are otherwise covered in darkness. Lightroots do not merely act as visual beacons. Their illuminated areas provide a practical way to chart routes, identify cliffs and chasms, and locate nearby points of interest.

Tikanur is positioned beneath the Surface location of Runakit Shrine. The relationship follows the wider Lightroot pattern in Tears of the Kingdom: Lightroots generally correspond to Shrines of Light above them, and the names are usually reversals of one another. Tikanur becomes Runakit through the game’s naming pattern.

The Lightroot is therefore useful in two directions:

---

Overview: steps

  1. 01
From the Surface downward, Runakit Shrine provides a known reference point for finding Tikanur.
  2. 02
From the Depths upward, the Lightroot’s position helps confirm the location of Runakit Shrine on the Surface.

Boundaries and included area

What is not included

The following are separate locations and should not be treated as parts of Tikanur Lightroot:

Zelda Wiki’s Hyrule Ridge Depths listing places Tikanur among the region’s Lightroots while listing mines, groves and the chasm as separate entries.

---

Location and coordinates

(-2529, 1170, -0644)

The exact coordinate listing varies slightly between map resources because of rounding and map data presentation, but the Lightroot is consistently identified at this position.

It lies in the western part of the central Hyrule underground network, beneath the general Hyrule Ridge area. It is not a Surface entrance by itself. To reach it, Link must descend through a chasm, travel through the Depths from another activated point, or use another available route into the underground.

Surface counterpart

Runakit Shrine is west of Lindor’s Brow Skyview Tower, making that tower the most useful aerial landmark for locating the Surface counterpart.

Functions and services

Map illumination

Activating Tikanur Lightroot reveals the surrounding section of the Depths map. The exact visible area depends on the Lightroot’s illumination range and the state of nearby roots, but Tikanur is useful for opening the underground geography beneath western Hyrule Ridge.

The map information is permanent for the save file once activated. Returning later does not require reactivating the root.

Fast travel

Tikanur becomes a travel point after activation. This allows Link to return to it from the map, provided fast travel is available in the current situation.

It is a particularly useful return point for:

Gloom recovery

Lightroots remove the immediate effects of Gloom from Link’s damaged health. This does not function as a general replacement for cooking, healing items or the Depths’ special healing resources, but it is an important safety feature during underground travel. Zelda Dungeon lists Gloom-disabled Heart Container restoration and the Lightroot’s travel-gate function among its attributes.

A Lightroot is therefore worth activating even if the player is not interested in completing the Depths map. It provides a safe recovery point and a dependable fast-travel destination.

Nearby connections

The Hyrule Ridge Depths contains several named Lightroots in the same broad regional network. The following names are listed as neighbouring or related Hyrule Ridge Depths Lightroots in regional directories:

These are separate locations, not subareas of Tikanur Lightroot.

Nabahi-ikat Lightroot

Nabahi-ikat Lightroot is one of the closest useful connections to Tikanur. Map listings place it at approximately (1196, -1829, -0617) in the larger Depths map coordinate system, while Tikanur is around (1170, -2529, -0644).

Because the two locations are separated mostly along the Depths map’s north-south axis, they can be combined into a useful exploration route when the terrain is passable. The exact walking route depends on chasms, walls, gloom pools and available vehicles.

Muzasu Lightroot

Muzasu Lightroot is another related western-Central Hyrule location. It is not part of Tikanur’s immediate platform, but it belongs to the same broad regional network listed under the Hyrule Ridge Depths category.

Napanos and Sikurukam Lightroots

Napanos Lightroot and Sikurukam Lightroot are also separate roots in the same regional directory. They are useful comparison points when checking a partially completed Hyrule Ridge Depths map, particularly if Tikanur’s activation reveals a small isolated patch of darkness nearby.

Access routes

There is no single mandatory route to Tikanur Lightroot. The best approach depends on which parts of the map the player has already unlocked.

Route 1: Use Runakit Shrine as the Surface reference

This is the most straightforward method if the player has already found Runakit Shrine.

The Surface and Depths maps are deliberately related, so completed Shrine locations are useful markers when searching for their underground counterparts. The wider Lightroot system is based on this Surface-to-Depths relationship.

Route 2: Descend through a Hyrule Ridge-area chasm

A chasm in the broader Hyrule Ridge area provides a natural starting point for underground exploration. The chasm itself is a separate location, not an entrance belonging to Tikanur.

Route 3: Travel from another activated Lightroot

If the player has already activated one of the nearby roots, fast-traveling there can be more convenient than descending from the Surface. From the arrival point, use the map to plan a ground route towards Tikanur.

This is usually safer than attempting a blind cross-country journey from a distant chasm because the player begins with a known map position and an illuminated area.

---

Route 1: Use Runakit Shrine as the Surface reference

  1. 01
Travel to Runakit Shrine on the Surface.
  2. 02
Open the map and compare the shrine’s location with the Depths map.
  3. 03
Identify the matching position below it.
  4. 04
Enter the Depths through a nearby chasm.
  5. 05
Travel towards Tikanur’s position, using Brightbloom Seeds, arrows or a vehicle to deal with the darkness.
  6. 06
Activate Tikanur Lightroot when you reach its glowing root.

Route 2: Descend through a Hyrule Ridge-area chasm: After descending

  1. 01
Throw or fire a Brightbloom Seed to establish visibility.
  2. 02
Mark Tikanur’s approximate position on the map.
  3. 03
Use the illuminated terrain and any existing Lightroots as guide points.
  4. 04
Avoid wasting large numbers of Brightbloom Seeds in already visible areas.
  5. 05
Activate any roots encountered en route before pushing farther into unexplored darkness.

Suggested exploration route

For a practical regional sweep, use the following order if the relevant locations are still undiscovered:

This route is an exploration recommendation rather than a fixed in-game road. The Depths do not provide a marked road network around Tikanur, and the best route can change depending on vehicles, Zonai devices, stamina, armour and the player’s previously activated roots.

---

Suggested exploration route: steps

  1. 01
Enter the Depths through a Hyrule Ridge-area chasm.
  2. 02
    Activate the first accessible Lightroot.
  3. 03
Travel towards Tikanur Lightroot, prioritising map illumination over collecting every nearby resource.
  4. 04
Use Tikanur as a central fast-travel point.
  5. 05
    Continue towards Nabahi-ikat Lightroot.
  6. 06
Return to Tikanur if Gloom damage or low visibility makes the route unsafe.
  7. 07
Sweep towards Muzasu, Napanos or Sikurukam according to the remaining dark patches on the map.
  8. 08
Recheck the Surface map against the Depths map for any Shrine locations without a corresponding activated root.

Runakit Shrine connection

Runakit Shrine is the most important named location associated with Tikanur because it is the Lightroot’s Surface counterpart.

The shrine’s trial is called Built to Carry. It is a construction and transport puzzle involving a large ball, rails, platforms and Zonai-style building solutions. The player uses Link’s abilities, especially Ultrahand, to move the ball through several sections and place it in the final socket.

The shrine is not required to activate Tikanur. Conversely, activating Tikanur does not complete Runakit Shrine. They are separate activities connected by their mirrored map placement.

The Construct Bow and Light of Blessing belong to Runakit Shrine, not to Tikanur Lightroot itself.

Walkthrough: activating Tikanur Lightroot

---

Walkthrough: activating Tikanur Lightroot: steps

  1. 01
Prepare for the Depths. Carry Brightbloom Seeds, arrows, healing food and at least one method of dealing with Gloom. A vehicle can make the approach easier, but it is not a requirement.

Walkthrough: activating Tikanur Lightroot: steps

  1. 01
Choose an entry point. Descend through a suitable chasm or fast-travel to an already activated Lightroot in the wider Hyrule Ridge network.

Walkthrough: activating Tikanur Lightroot: steps

  1. 01
Set a map marker. Use the approximate coordinate (-2529, 1170, -0644) as a guide. Map coordinates are most useful when combined with terrain, rather than treated as a route by themselves.

Walkthrough: activating Tikanur Lightroot: steps

  1. 01
Light the approach. Fire Brightbloom Seeds towards the ground and walls. Use large Brightbloom Seeds when you need a longer sightline, especially near cliffs or broad open chambers.

Walkthrough: activating Tikanur Lightroot: steps

  1. 01
Watch for Gloom. The route may contain Gloom-covered ground. Avoid unnecessary contact, and do not assume that a visible luminous root is safe until you have activated it.

Walkthrough: activating Tikanur Lightroot: steps

  1. 01
Identify the root. Tikanur appears as a large glowing root structure rising from a pedestal. The map icon and the bright root make it distinct once you are close.

Walkthrough: activating Tikanur Lightroot: steps

  1. 01
Activate the Lightroot. Interact with the root’s central point. The surrounding map becomes visible, the location is recorded and the root becomes a travel point.

Walkthrough: activating Tikanur Lightroot: steps

  1. 01
Use the newly revealed map. Look for dark gaps, nearby roots and routes towards the wider Hyrule Ridge Depths. If your aim is map completion, compare the revealed underground pattern with Surface Shrine locations.

Items, collectibles and rewards

Tikanur Lightroot itself has no separately verified unique treasure chest, named item, armour piece, shrine chest or quest reward.

The Construct Bow and Light of Blessing associated with the area come from Runakit Shrine above, not from the Lightroot.

What to check around the wider area

The wider Hyrule Ridge Depths may contain ordinary Depths resources, enemies, deposits and collectible materials, but these should not automatically be attributed to Tikanur Lightroot. Their presence can depend on the exact route taken and on the boundaries used by a particular map or guide.

No reliable source reviewed here establishes a unique Tikanur-specific chest or guaranteed named collectible immediately beside the root.

---

Enemies and hazards

No unique boss or fixed dungeon encounter is documented as part of Tikanur Lightroot itself.

Enemy encounters should be treated as route-dependent unless a source identifies a fixed encounter at the Lightroot. Tikanur is a navigation and utility location, not a combat arena.

Practical safety advice

---

Lore and naming

Lightroots are described in the game as major sources of light in the Depths. Their light also purifies Link from Gloom damage. The game’s guidance describes the Surface and Depths as interconnected, with notable places in one layer often mirrored by significant places in the other.

Tikanur’s relationship with Runakit Shrine demonstrates this design clearly:

The broader naming convention is also reflected in the reversed relationship between Tikanur and Runakit. This is part of the game’s general Lightroot and Shrine naming pattern rather than a special property unique to this location.
