sikurukaM Lightroot

This guide covers the base game of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Importancemajor

Key takeaways

  • Sikurukam Lightroot is in the Hyrule Ridge Depths, not on the surface and not in the nearby mine.
  • Its surface counterpart is Makurukis Shrine, located on Mount Rhoam.
  • The commonly listed coordinates are approximately (-2846, 0630, -0621) Some references give the vertical coordinate as -0642, so use the map marker and visible Lightroot glow rather than relying on the final coordinate alone.
  • It is positioned near Rhoam Canyon and southwest of the Rhoam Canyon Mine, according to regional map references.
  • The most reliable way to identify it is to compare it with Makurukis Shrine on the surface. Surface shrines and Depths Lightroots occupy corresponding map positions, with the Lightroot’s name generally reversing the shrine’s name.
  • Activating it is not tied to a quest, boss encounter or dungeon progression It is a fixed exploration objective.

Introduction

Sikurukam Lightroot is a small but useful Depths landmark in the Hyrule Ridge Depths. It is the underground counterpart of Makurukis Shrine, which stands on the southern edge of Mount Rhoam on the surface. Activating the Lightroot illuminates the surrounding section of the Depths, unlocks a fast-travel point and restores Link’s normal maximum-heart display while he is within its light.

Unlike a mine, Yiga hideout, enemy arena or settlement, Sikurukam Lightroot is primarily a navigation and map-progression landmark. There is no verified named settlement or quest hub attached to it, and the available location references do not identify any separate child areas within the Lightroot itself. The nearby Rhoam Canyon Mine is a separate location and should not be treated as part of Sikurukam Lightroot.

Boundaries and hierarchy

Parent region

Sikurukam Lightroot belongs to the Hyrule Ridge Depths, one of the named regions used for the Depths map. It is not a sub-area of Mount Rhoam, even though its position corresponds to the mountain on the surface. The distinction matters because the surface and Depths use different terrain, landmarks and routes.

The Lightroot’s local area is best understood as the immediate illuminated ground around the root and its approach routes. It does not include:

Separate neighbouring places

No separately named chamber, cave, mine tunnel, camp, arena or settlement is consistently documented as a child area of Sikurukam Lightroot. The safest interpretation is therefore that the location consists of the Lightroot platform and its immediately surrounding Depths terrain.

Geography and appearance

Sikurukam Lightroot stands in the dark, open terrain of the Hyrule Ridge Depths. As with other Lightroots, its most obvious feature is the large glowing root structure that can be seen from a considerable distance once Link is close enough. Before activation, the surrounding region remains covered by the Depths’ darkness on the map. After activation, the Lightroot reveals the nearby terrain and remains a permanent fast-travel marker.

Its surface alignment is particularly useful. Makurukis Shrine sits on the southern edge of Mount Rhoam, overlooking the area around Tabantha Bridge Stable. The corresponding underground point is Sikurukam Lightroot. This follows the wider Tears of the Kingdom mapping rule in which a surface Shrine of Light has a Lightroot directly below or closely aligned with it.

The surrounding underground terrain should not be read as a literal underground copy of Mount Rhoam. The Depths invert many broad surface relationships: mountains tend to correspond to lower ground or canyons, while surface bodies of water often become impassable walls or large geological boundaries below. This makes the surface map useful for locating the general position of a Lightroot, but not for predicting a direct vertical route through the Depths. Nintendo specifically recommends using known Shrine positions to help work out nearby Lightroot locations.

Coordinates and map identification

Other references list the vertical coordinate as -0642. The horizontal position is consistent across the available sources, while the difference in height may reflect map-marker placement, coordinate transcription or the exact point measured within the Lightroot structure.

If the target marker appears to be inside a cliff or on the wrong side of an apparent barrier, do not assume the Lightroot is inaccessible. Depths walls and elevation changes can make a straight-line approach misleading.

For practical navigation

  1. 01
    Open the Depths map.
  2. 02
Locate the western-central portion of the Hyrule Ridge Depths.
  3. 03
Compare the position with Makurukis Shrine on the surface map.
  4. 04
Look for a Lightroot marker near the Rhoam Canyon area.
  5. 05
Use the glowing root itself as the final confirmation.

Access and routes

General access

Sikurukam Lightroot has no reported quest lock, story lock or special equipment requirement. Link needs a way into the Depths, a paraglider for a safe descent from a chasm and enough supplies to manage darkness and gloom. The exact route depends on which chasm or already activated Lightroot the player is using.

The Hyrule Ridge Chasm is the natural regional access point for exploring this part of the Depths. Regional guides list Tikanur Lightroot as being near that chasm, making Tikanur a useful first waypoint when approaching from the Hyrule Ridge side. Sikurukam lies farther west or southwest from that regional approach, depending on the route around the underground terrain.

Route from an eastern approach

Tikanur and Sikurukam are separate locations. Tikanur should be treated as a route waypoint, not as part of the Sikurukam site.

Route from the Rhoam Canyon Mine

The Rhoam Canyon Mine is described as lying near Sikurukam, with Sikurukam southwest of the mine in regional route references. This makes the mine a useful navigation landmark once its position is known.

The mine is not confirmed as an entrance directly into the Lightroot’s platform. It is simply a nearby, named Depths landmark.

Route using the surface counterpart

If you have already found Makurukis Shrine, use it as a map reference:

This method is especially useful when a Lightroot is difficult to spot in the dark. Nintendo’s guidance confirms that Shrine locations can be used to infer Lightroot positions.

Route from an eastern approach: A practical route is

  1. 01
Enter the Depths through a suitable chasm in or near Hyrule Ridge.
  2. 02
Activate Tikanur Lightroot if it is still unlit.
  3. 03
Use the newly revealed map to plot a course towards Sikurukam.
  4. 04
Travel around large underground ridges rather than trying to climb every wall directly.
  5. 05
Watch for the glow of Sikurukam Lightroot and approach from the side with the least gloom.
  6. 06
Activate the Lightroot to illuminate the area and establish fast travel.

Route from the Rhoam Canyon Mine: From the mine

  1. 01
Leave the mine’s central working area and orient yourself towards the southwest.
  2. 02
Check the Depths map for the Sikurukam marker.
  3. 03
Follow the open ground around cliffs and canyon walls.
  4. 04
Look for the Lightroot’s glow rather than attempting to descend to a surface-corresponding point.
  5. 05
Activate Sikurukam when you reach its base.

Route using the surface counterpart

  1. 01
Open the surface map and note the Shrine’s position on Mount Rhoam.
  2. 02
Switch to the Depths map without moving the cursor.
  3. 03
    Check the corresponding underground position.
  4. 04
Travel from the nearest activated Lightroot or chasm.
  5. 05
Use the inverted terrain relationship to avoid assuming that a surface cliff has a climbable underground face.

What activating Sikurukam Lightroot does

Activating the Lightroot provides the standard Lightroot benefits:

The location reference for Sikurukam specifically records map data, illumination and a travel gate as its functions. It also notes that heart-container restoration is disabled by gloom outside the protective effect of the Lightroot.

Lightroot activation is permanent for the save file. There is no known alternate activation state, faction ownership state or progression variant for this location.

Items, collectibles and services

Fixed items

No fixed chest, armour piece, Old Map, Yiga schematic or named quest reward is verified as being located on Sikurukam Lightroot itself by the sources consulted.

This distinction is important. The nearby Rhoam Canyon Mine and the wider Hyrule Ridge Depths may contain separate chests, ore deposits, enemies and collectibles, but those should not automatically be attributed to Sikurukam Lightroot.

Services

It is not a shop, stable, forge, armour store, bed, cooking station or settlement. No ordinary NPCs, named residents, merchants or faction representatives are verified at the Lightroot.

Enemies and hazards

There is no fixed boss encounter or mandatory enemy group documented as part of Sikurukam Lightroot. Enemies in the surrounding Depths may vary according to the exact route taken and the player’s progression, so they should be treated as nearby encounters rather than permanent features of the Lightroot.

Gloom can reduce Link’s maximum hearts and prevent ordinary recovery until he reaches a Lightroot’s protective light, returns to the surface or uses an appropriate recovery method. Nintendo’s guidance highlights both the heart-reduction effect of gloom and the usefulness of Lightroots for navigating the Depths.

Preparation checklist

Brightbloom items are useful on the approach, but once Sikurukam is activated they are generally less important in the illuminated local area.

Nearby connections

The following named places are relevant to Sikurukam’s position but are not included within its boundaries.

The names also illustrate the game’s naming convention. Sikurukam is the reversed form of Makurukis, as with many Shrine and Lightroot pairs.

Suggested exploration route

For a player exploring the region methodically, the following order is sensible:

This route prioritises map coverage and travel safety rather than treating the Lightroot as the endpoint of a quest.

Suggested exploration route: steps

  1. 01
Find or activate the regional chasm that gives access to the Hyrule Ridge Depths.
  2. 02
Activate Tikanur Lightroot if it is nearby and still dark on the map.
  3. 03
Use the revealed terrain to identify major ridges, cliffs and open routes.
  4. 04
Detour to the Rhoam Canyon Mine only if you intend to explore its separate contents.
  5. 05
    Continue towards Sikurukam Lightroot.
  6. 06
Activate Sikurukam before pushing farther into the western or southwestern parts of the region.
  7. 07
Compare the newly illuminated Depths map with the surface map.
  8. 08
Use the Makurukis Shrine marker to confirm that the correct Shrine-Lightroot pair has been completed.

Lore and progression significance

Sikurukam Lightroot has no unique dialogue or independently documented lore. Its significance is systemic rather than narrative. Lightroots are part of the Depths’ ancient infrastructure and provide the practical means by which Link can reclaim the underground map from darkness.

The location also demonstrates one of the central exploration relationships in Tears of the Kingdom: surface Shrines can guide underground exploration. Once a player recognises that a Shrine and Lightroot occupy corresponding positions, an incomplete surface Shrine list can help identify an unexplored Lightroot, and an unlit Lightroot can point towards an undiscovered Shrine. Nintendo explicitly presents this relationship as a navigation aid.
