Introduction
Susuyai Shrine is a Shrine of Light in the Surface map of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Its shrine challenge is called A Spinning Device, an introductory puzzle built around Small Wheels, moving platforms and simple Zonai-style machinery.
The shrine stands in the north-western part of the Hyrule Garrison Ruins, within the broader Passeri Greenbelt area of Central Hyrule. It is west of Lookout Landing and east of the Ancient Tree Stump. The shrine is visible in the open ruins rather than hidden in a cave or behind a shrine quest.
Susuyai is a useful early shrine because it teaches several ideas that recur throughout Tears of the Kingdom: moving vehicles with Ultrahand, detaching useful components, positioning wheels so that their direction of travel is correct, and using a wheel to move a platform along a rail.
Location and boundaries
Susuyai Shrine is a small, self-contained puzzle location. The exterior approach is part of the ruined area around the shrine, but the shrine challenge begins once Link enters the green shrine doorway.
The shrine is positioned in the north-western portion of Hyrule Garrison Ruins. The ruins are within the larger Hyrule Field region, although some location guides identify the immediate landscape as the Passeri Greenbelt. These names describe different levels of the map hierarchy rather than competing shrine locations: Hyrule Field is the broad region, Passeri Greenbelt is the local landscape, and Hyrule Garrison Ruins are the immediate exterior landmark.
The nearby Ancient Tree Stump is a useful navigation reference, but it is a separate location. The shrine is east of the stump, while the Hyrule Field Skyview Tower is another separate landmark to the south-east. Lookout Landing is also nearby in regional terms, but it is not part of the shrine’s subarea.

Access and routes
Susuyai Shrine is accessible from the ground without a shrine quest, special armour or a story-progress requirement. The shrine entrance is in the open, so the main challenge is reaching the ruins rather than locating a concealed entrance.
From Hyrule Field Skyview Tower
Game8 gives the shrine’s position as roughly −0784, −0433, 0018, while other databases list nearby values such as −0785, −0434, 0032. These are effectively the same location, with the variation likely reflecting the surveyed point or vertical coordinate used by the map.
From Lookout Landing
Travel south-west from Lookout Landing across Hyrule Field. The route is comparatively direct, but the open field can contain hostile encounters, so a new player may prefer to use the Skyview Tower for a glide-assisted approach.
From the Ancient Tree Stump
The shrine is east of the Ancient Tree Stump. If you have already found the stump, use the ruined walls and the shrine’s green entrance as visual markers. The stump itself is not required for the shrine and does not unlock the challenge.
From Hyrule Field Skyview Tower
- 01Launch from Hyrule Field Skyview Tower.
- 02Glide or travel north-west towards the ruined structures.
- 03Look for the green shrine glow among the remains of Hyrule Garrison.
- 04Activate the shrine before entering if you want a convenient fast-travel point.
- 05Enter to begin A Spinning Device.
Shrine interior and puzzle layout
Susuyai Shrine consists of a long, connected series of rooms and platforms rather than several independent chambers. Its obstacles introduce Small Wheels in progressively more useful configurations:
The shrine does not contain ordinary enemies or a combat encounter. The hazards are environmental and mechanical: moving machinery, a large roller-like surface and a deep drop.
Shrine interior and puzzle layout: steps
- 01Moving vehicles cross the first section.
- 02A wheeled platform carries Link over a hazardous moving surface.
- 03A wheel powers a mechanism that opens the route onward.
- 04A suspended platform uses a Small Wheel to travel along a rail.
Walkthrough: A Spinning Device
1. Collect the chest from the moving vehicles
At the entrance, several small vehicles move repeatedly across the room and fall away at the far edge. One of them, the middle vehicle, carries a chest.
Use Ultrahand to grab either the vehicle or the chest. You can detach the chest from the vehicle, move it to stable ground and open it safely.
This is the shrine’s only known treasure chest. It is optional, but worth collecting because the chest is near the beginning and does not require a difficult detour.
2. Bring a vehicle into the next section
Take one of the wheeled platforms with you. Ultrahand lets you pull it away from the moving route and position it where required.
When the vehicle reaches the next area, it may continue moving or slide away. If this happens, turn it over or place it on its side temporarily. You can also strike it with a weapon to stop its active wheels.
3. Prepare the vehicle for the moving floor
Turn the platform so that its Small Wheels face the direction in which you want it to travel. The arrows or directional markings on the wheel assemblies are useful visual guides.
Attach or reposition the wheels so that they are aligned with one another. The goal is not to build a fast vehicle, but to make a stable platform that can carry Link across the next obstacle.
If the platform immediately moves backwards or sideways, stop it, rotate the relevant wheel and try again.
4. Cross the large roller
The next obstacle is a broad rotating surface. The prepared vehicle can move across it, carrying Link to the far side.
Keep Link near the centre of the platform. If the vehicle begins to drift, adjust its position rather than jumping into the pit. Falling does not permanently damage the shrine, but it resets progress to the last safe position and may require rebuilding the arrangement.
Once you reach the next section, stop the vehicle and detach one of its wheels.
5. Use a Small Wheel to open the gate
A mechanism is positioned beside the route to the final room. Attach the detached Small Wheel to the mechanism so that the wheel can drive it.
Strike the wheel to activate it. When correctly attached, the wheel turns the mechanism and opens the gate.
If the gate does not move, check the following:
This part of the shrine demonstrates that Small Wheels are not only transport components. They can also be used as simple powered parts in a larger construction.
6. Build the rail-riding platform
The final room contains a large gap, a hanging lift and a rail extending across the room. There are Small Wheels available nearby.
Attach a Small Wheel to the top of the suspended lift, where it can grip and travel along the rail. The wheel must be positioned so that its rotation drives the platform across rather than away from the track.
You do not normally need to rebuild the earlier vehicle. The shrine provides the necessary wheel in this room.
7. Cross to the altar
Stand on the lift and strike the attached wheel. It should pull the platform along the rail to the opposite side.
When the lift reaches the far platform, step off and approach the altar. Interact with the shrine terminal to complete the trial.
8. Claim the Light of Blessing
Completing the shrine also marks Susuyai Shrine as cleared and leaves it available as a fast-travel point. Four Lights of Blessing can be exchanged at a Goddess Statue for either a Heart Container or a Stamina Vessel, subject to the normal exchange rules.
3. Prepare the vehicle for the moving floor: A common solution is
- 01Place the platform flat.
- 02Make sure all wheels point in the same direction.
- 03Position the vehicle at the start of the moving section.
- 04Stand on it.
- 05Strike one of the wheels to activate the machinery.
Items and collectibles directory
Completion reward
The arrows are fixed shrine treasure, not a random drop. The Light of Blessing is the fixed completion reward.
Shrine chest
| Item | Quantity | Location | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arrow | 5 | On the middle moving vehicle in the first room | Optional chest |
Completion reward
| Reward | How to obtain |
|---|---|
| Light of Blessing | Examine the altar after solving the shrine |
Enemies, NPCs and facilities
Susuyai Shrine has no named residents, ordinary NPCs, merchants, faction members or law-enforcement presence. It is an isolated shrine puzzle rather than a settlement or staffed facility.
There is also no shrine-specific boss. The challenge is entirely mechanical.
Present within the shrine
The Rauru and Sonia statue provides the standard shrine completion interaction and grants the Light of Blessing.
Nearby connections
The shrine’s most useful nearby connections are navigational rather than functional:
Surface shrines and Depths Lightroots follow corresponding map positions. Iayusus Lightroot is identified as Susuyai Shrine’s Depths counterpart by shrine references and regional databases.

Hazards and useful techniques
Moving machinery
The vehicles at the entrance continue moving until stopped or removed. Do not assume that a platform will remain where you leave it. Use Ultrahand to secure it or turn it over when you need to work on it.
Direction of wheel travel
Small Wheels are sensitive to their orientation. If a vehicle spins in place or travels in the wrong direction, detach and rotate the wheel rather than trying to compensate by steering Link’s body.
Falling into the gaps
The shrine’s pits are the main danger. Link can often recover by using the available platforms, but it is safer to stop the machinery and check the route before activating it.
Carrying components forward
You do not need to preserve every part from the first room. The shrine provides enough machinery for each stage, and Ultrahand lets you detach wheels when they are more useful elsewhere.
Suggested exploration route
This route collects every fixed item in the shrine without requiring a complicated alternate build.
For an efficient first visit
- 01Travel from Lookout Landing or launch from Hyrule Field Skyview Tower.
- 02Activate Susuyai Shrine from outside.
- 03Enter and immediately collect the chest from the middle moving vehicle.
- 04Carry one vehicle into the next area.
- 05Use it to cross the moving roller.
- 06Detach one wheel and attach it to the gate mechanism.
- 07Use the supplied wheel on the suspended lift.
- 08Cross to the altar and claim the Light of Blessing.
- 09Leave through the shrine entrance and continue exploring the Hyrule Garrison Ruins separately.
Lore and series context
Susuyai Shrine is a Tears of the Kingdom Shrine of Light and has no identified appearance as the same shrine in Breath of the Wild. Its exterior position is notable because it lies in the same broad area as the former Central Tower location from Breath of the Wild, but the games should be kept separate here: the Susuyai Shrine is a Tears of the Kingdom location, while the older tower was a feature of the previous game.
The shrine’s design reflects *Tears of the Kingdom*’s emphasis on construction. Rather than presenting a single obvious switch, it introduces the player to a small toolkit of physical principles:
