Key takeaways

  • Rotsumamu Shrine is a Surface Shrine of Light in the Gerudo Highlands.
  • Its trial, A Balanced Plan, uses three main inclined seesaw sections.
  • The intended solution uses an iron barrel, a stone slab or board, and a stone block as counterweights.
  • The shrine contains one treasure chest holding Large Zonaite.
  • Completing the shrine grants one Light of Blessing.
  • The shrine is near the Yiga Clan Hideout Chasm and can function as a useful fast-travel point for the hideout’s rear entrance after the relevant Yiga progression has been completed.

Overview

Rotsumamu Shrine is a Shrine of Light in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Its trial is called A Balanced Plan, a compact physics puzzle built around inclined seesaw platforms, counterweights and carefully timed movement. The shrine stands in the Gerudo Highlands beside the Yiga Clan Hideout Chasm, close to the rear approach to the Yiga Clan Hideout.

This guide covers the shrine itself and its immediate exterior entrance. It does not treat the Yiga Clan Hideout, the Yiga Blademaster Station, or the Depths below as part of Rotsumamu Shrine. Those are neighbouring or connected locations with their own content.

Location and boundaries

Rotsumamu Shrine is in the Gerudo Highlands, on rocky ground beside the entrance area associated with the Yiga Clan Hideout Chasm. It is positioned near the hideout’s rear approach, rather than inside the underground hideout itself. The shrine entrance is visible in the open air, making it possible to activate without first completing the Yiga Clan’s challenges.

The shrine’s correspondence with Umamustor Lightroot follows the game’s general Surface Shrine and Depths Lightroot relationship, but visiting the Lightroot is not required to solve Rotsumamu Shrine.

Reaching the shrine

The most straightforward route is from the Gerudo Highlands Skyview Tower. Launch from the tower and glide towards the Yiga Clan Hideout Chasm. The shrine is near the chasm and stands out against the surrounding rocky terrain.

The shrine does not require a shrine quest or a special outfit. It is a normal puzzle shrine, although the nearby Yiga facilities have separate progression conditions and should not be confused with access to the shrine itself.

A practical approach is

  1. 01
Travel to the Gerudo Highlands Skyview Tower.
  2. 02
Launch into the air and glide towards the Yiga Clan Hideout Chasm.
  3. 03
Look for the shrine structure beside the chasm entrance.
  4. 04
Activate the shrine before entering, creating a fast-travel point.
  5. 05
Enter when prepared to use Ultrahand, Recall and ordinary climbing or jumping.

Interior layout and puzzle design

Rotsumamu Shrine is essentially a vertical passage divided into several elevated sections. Each section uses a long, tilting platform that behaves like a seesaw. Link must make one end high enough to climb or run across, then repeat the process further inside.

The trial is less about building a complicated Zonai machine and more about understanding weight, leverage and timing. The shrine provides objects that can be attached to the seesaws with Ultrahand. Recall also provides an alternative way to restore a platform to a previous position after moving it.

Puzzle equipment directory

The exact appearance and placement of some loose objects can be easier to understand from the shrine’s geometry than from a map. The important point is that the barrel, slab and block are deliberately supplied as puzzle tools, not random equipment.

Full walkthrough

1. Cross the first incline

At the entrance, approach the first inclined platform. Run up it as quickly as possible. When Link reaches the upper end, jump towards the raised platform ahead.

This opening section can also be handled with Recall. If the platform has recently moved, Recall can temporarily replay its earlier position, allowing Link to use it as a route upwards. The straightforward running and jumping method is usually quicker.

2. Use the iron barrel as a counterweight

The second incline has a loose iron barrel nearby.

The barrel changes the balance of the platform. If the incline does not rise far enough, detach and reposition the barrel rather than trying to force the jump.

3. Prepare the large seesaw

The final major puzzle chamber contains a much larger incline. A heavy set of stone pieces is already attached to one side, so the platform is not balanced naturally.

Look around the chamber for the loose flat stone piece and the separate stone block. The shrine’s intended solution is to use these objects to alter the weight and reach of the large seesaw.

4. Reach the treasure chest

For the chest, attach the stone slab or board to the lighter end of the large incline. Position it so the slab forms a walkable extension towards the distant elevated platform.

Some walkthroughs describe using the stone block with the slab to provide additional weight. The precise order can vary slightly depending on how the platform has moved, but the objective is the same: use the supplied stone pieces to make the long seesaw reach the chest platform.

5. Raise the route to the exit

After collecting the chest, restore the large incline to a position that allows access to the exit platform. If the platform has fallen or shifted, use Ultrahand to lift the heavier end and hold it in place briefly.

The platform may settle again when released. That is intentional: Link is expected to use the momentary position to climb, or to combine the movement with Recall.

6. Use Recall to preserve the platform’s position

Recall is particularly useful if the seesaw is awkward to hold with Ultrahand. The shrine’s design allows both the intended counterweight approach and ability-based solutions.

7. Claim the Light of Blessing

At the end of the shrine, approach the altar and examine it. Completion grants a Light of Blessing.

There is no combat encounter or boss in the shrine. The meaningful rewards are the chest’s Large Zonaite and the Light of Blessing from the altar.

2. Use the iron barrel as a counterweight

  1. 01
Pick up the barrel with Ultrahand.
  2. 02
Attach it to one end of the seesaw.
  3. 03
Position the attachment so that the opposite end rises high enough for Link to climb.
  4. 04
Ascend the raised section and continue into the next area.

4. Reach the treasure chest: Then

  1. 01
Use Ultrahand to attach the slab to the seesaw.
  2. 02
Adjust the platform until the slab points towards the chest.
  3. 03
    Walk across the slab.
  4. 04
Open the chest to receive Large Zonaite.

6. Use Recall to preserve the platform’s position: A reliable method is

  1. 01
Move or lift the large incline into the useful position.
  2. 02
Allow the platform to move or fall.
  3. 03
    Target it with Recall.
  4. 04
While Recall replays its previous movement, climb the incline.
  5. 05
    Continue to the final chamber.

Alternative methods

Recall-focused method

Recall can reduce the amount of physical construction required:

This is especially helpful if a counterweight has been attached at an inconvenient angle.

Ultrahand-focused method

Ultrahand is also useful for moving a piece out of the way after opening the chest, allowing the same materials to be reused for the exit route.

Rewards and inventory

The Large Zonaite is a fixed chest item, not a random drop. The shrine contains no confirmed combat loot table or boss reward.

Nearby connections

Rotsumamu Shrine is particularly useful because of its position beside the Yiga Clan Hideout Chasm. It can serve as a convenient return point for exploring the surrounding Gerudo Highlands and for approaching the Yiga Clan’s rear entrance.

The relationship with the Yiga Hideout changes according to progression. The shrine itself remains accessible as a normal shrine, but the hideout’s rear entrance is tied to Yiga-related progression, including becoming a Yiga Blademaster. Before that access is unlocked, another approach to the hideout may be more convenient.

---

Hazards and secrets

The shrine’s main hazard is environmental rather than hostile. Falling from an incline can return Link to a lower section and may require repositioning the platform. There are no known enemies or boss fights in the puzzle route.

The chest is easy to overlook because it is reached through the large seesaw chamber rather than lying directly on the main exit path. Collect it before completing the final climb.

Practical tips

What is not present within the shrine

The following categories do not have confirmed shrine-specific entries in the researched material:

The nearby Yiga Clan Hideout has characters, faction activities and services, but those belong to the hideout rather than to Rotsumamu Shrine and should be documented separately.

Lore and trivia

The shrine’s name is sometimes rendered inconsistently in third-party material, including map listings that use variants such as “Rotsamamu” or “Rotsumamum”. The in-game shrine name used for this guide is Rotsumamu Shrine. The trial name is A Balanced Plan.

Rotsumamu also has a recognised Depths counterpart in Umamustor Lightroot, reinforcing the Surface Shrine and Lightroot alignment used throughout Tears of the Kingdom.
