About this guide

Game: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Scope: Base game, including the named rooms, shops, training area and immediate chasm connection that belong to the main hideout. The separate Yiga Clan branches scattered around Hyrule and the Depths are not included here. Major spoilers: This guide discusses the Yiga Clan’s identity, the infiltration quest, the Earthwake Manual, the Lightning Helm and the hideout’s hidden rooms.

Overview

The Yiga Clan Hideout is the main headquarters of the Yiga Clan in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It stands in the Gerudo Highlands, in the same broad Karusa Valley area used by the clan in Breath of the Wild. In this game, however, it is no longer primarily a stealth dungeon. Once Link acquires the full Yiga Clan Attire and completes Infiltrating the Yiga Clan, the hideout becomes a functioning Yiga settlement with shops, vehicle research, a training arena and a route to Rotsumamu Shrine.

The hideout is best understood as a compact complex rather than a single room. Its eastern entrance leads into a market-like hall containing several Yiga-run stalls. A second chamber houses experimental vehicles. Beyond that is the main hall and training room, followed by the Yiga Clan Hideout Chasm and an adjoining route to the shrine. A concealed tunnel also leads to the prison, while an upper walkway contains additional lore and treasure.

Unlike Breath of the Wild, where the hideout is a one-off infiltration challenge tied to Divine Beast Vah Naboris, Tears of the Kingdom lets Link return repeatedly. The area therefore serves three purposes:

Introduction

  1. 01
It is the headquarters for the Infiltrating the Yiga Clan side adventure.
  2. 02
It is the location of the Yiga Clan Training minigame.
  3. 03
It is a small commercial and research centre for Yiga equipment, Mighty Bananas and unusual Zonai vehicles.

Finding the hideout

The main entrance is in the Gerudo Highlands, west of the hideout chasm and close to Rotsumamu Shrine. If you are approaching from the Gerudo Highlands Skyview Tower, descend towards the snowy valley and look for the Yiga compound built into the rock.

The shrine is the most convenient long-term travel point once unlocked. Before that, the Skyview Tower is usually the easiest way to reach the region. The precise coordinates vary slightly between guides depending on whether they mark the entrance, the quest-giver or the central building, so use the visible Yiga structures and the map icon rather than relying on a single coordinate.

The required disguise

The door is guarded, and ordinary clothing is not enough. Link must wear the complete Yiga Clan Attire, consisting of:

The set is obtained from Yiga locations around Hyrule. Once the full set has been collected, speak to Mimos outside the main entrance to begin or advance Infiltrating the Yiga Clan. The quest sends Link into the hideout while disguised as a recruit.

The game checks the disguise as Link moves through the complex. Keep the complete set equipped while exploring. The Lightning Helm does not substitute for the Yiga headgear during the initial infiltration requirement.

Suggested first visit

This route prevents the training room and upper areas from being overlooked.

---

A sensible first route is

  1. 01
Speak to Mimos outside the entrance.
  2. 02
Equip all three Yiga armour pieces.
  3. 03
    Enter through the main door.
  4. 04
Visit the eastern shops before proceeding deeper.
  5. 05
    Inspect the vehicle research room.
  6. 06
Search the upper walkway and hidden alcoves.
  7. 07
    Complete the training rounds.
  8. 08
    Collect the Lightning Helm.
  9. 09
Follow the rear route to the chasm and Rotsumamu Shrine.
  10. 10
Return later with rupees if you want to purchase the vehicles or restock weapons and materials.

Eastern entrance and market hall

The first room is the hideout’s commercial area. In Breath of the Wild, this part of the complex was mostly associated with storage and infiltration. In Tears of the Kingdom, it has been reorganised into stalls run by the Yiga’s Mercantile Division.

The vendors sell equipment that suits the clan’s combat style. The stock is useful if you want Yiga weapons without waiting for random encounters, although none of the stalls replaces a general shop in a major settlement.

Mercantile stalls

The Mighty Banana seller has a limited stock, and the weapons and materials are presented as Yiga supplies rather than a conventional Hyrulean shop catalogue. The banana stall is particularly useful when preparing for Yiga-related activities or attack-boosting meals. Mighty Bananas can also be gathered elsewhere, especially in Faron, so buying them here is a convenience rather than a requirement.

Vehicle research chamber

The next chamber belongs to the Yiga’s research operation. Yiga Footsoldiers work on two unusual Zonai vehicles, both of which can be purchased.

Gloomdredger

The Gloomdredger is built for travelling through the Depths. Its design reflects the Yiga’s interest in using Zonai technology for underground operations, although it is not essential for Depths exploration.

HOVERDOOM MK.3

The HOVERDOOM MK.3 is considerably cheaper and is the more accessible novelty purchase. Both vehicle prices and the Blademaster discount are documented in the hideout’s shop listings.

Yiga Clan Hideout Hall

The hall is the main social and operational area beyond the shops. It contains ordinary Yiga personnel, storage, an upper walkway and the entrance to the training area.

A high eastern alcove contains a concealed Eightfold Longblade chest. It is easy to miss because it is above normal eye level and not placed directly on the floor route. Use Ascend, climbing or a carefully positioned vehicle to reach the canopy-level wall.

The upper walkway also contains the Lightning Helm Journal. This is a lore object rather than a quest item, and it provides context for the Yiga’s attempt to reproduce the Gerudo heirloom.

Prison and concealed tunnel

A prison lies behind hard sediment near the vehicle area. The entrance is not part of the obvious shop route. Break through the sediment with a suitable weapon, fused tool, Yunobo’s ability or another method that can destroy the material.

The prison contains a Sneaky Elixir in a stone chest at approximately -3630, -1388, 0344. The chest is not available simply by walking through the market, so it is worth checking the walls and side passages before leaving the complex.

In Breath of the Wild, the prison housed Barta, a captured Gerudo soldier. The Tears of the Kingdom layout and function are different, so the two versions should not be conflated. The older game’s Barta sequence, Thunder Helm objective and stealth-dungeon structure do not form part of the base-game Tears of the Kingdom route.

Master Kohga’s Room

The rear section contains Master Kohga’s Room, or what remains of the clan leader’s headquarters after the events of the earlier game. In Tears of the Kingdom, the room is associated with the Distribution Division and contains a conspicuous pile of Mighty Bananas.

The room is more valuable as environmental storytelling than as a conventional reward chamber. It shows how thoroughly the Yiga have turned their old headquarters into a working organisation with divisions for trade, research, training and distribution.

Named directory: personnel and divisions associated with the room

Master Kohga is not encountered as a conventional boss inside the surface hideout during the base game. His major Tears of the Kingdom encounters belong to the Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan side-adventure chain in the Depths.

---

The most important repeatable activity in the hideout is Yiga Clan Training. It is available after Link has completed Infiltrating the Yiga Clan and is wearing the full Yiga set. A Yiga Blademaster runs the activity from the central training area.

The premise is straightforward: defeat a required number of Yiga Footsoldiers within one minute. The enemies vanish into red smoke and reappear around the arena, so rapid targeting is more important than dealing maximum damage to a single enemy.

Training rewards

After obtaining the Lightning Helm, Link can repeat the challenge for free as a score attack, but there are no additional unique rewards.

Practical training advice

The Earthwake Manual is the key reward for players interested in Yiga techniques. The associated ability sends a ground-level shockwave forward and is usable only after acquiring the manual and meeting its activation conditions. The Lightning Helm is a wearable item modelled after the Gerudo Thunder Helm, but it should not be confused with the actual Thunder Helm from Breath of the Wild.

The hideout is not permanently cleared in the same way as a monster camp. Its inhabitants continue to behave as clan members, shopkeepers, engineers and guards. The main combat threats are:

The hideout’s security system is disguise-based rather than a conventional alarm network. If Link is identified while infiltrating, he is removed from the main complex and sent to the Yiga Clan Hideout Chasm, where he must fight Yiga Clan Enforcers. These encounters can be repeated.

Once Link is admitted as a disguised member, the area is largely non-hostile as long as he continues to satisfy the disguise checks. The training arena is an exception because its fights are deliberately initiated.

If the disguise fails

If Link removes the required Yiga clothing or is otherwise exposed:

This makes it sensible to complete any shopping and exploration before experimenting with armour changes.

If the disguise fails: steps

  1. 01
Nearby Yiga react to the disguise failure.
  2. 02
Link is expelled from the ordinary route.
  3. 03
He is sent to the chasm area.
  4. 04
He must defeat the waiting enforcers before resuming normal exploration.

Fixed rewards and purchases

The principal fixed items associated with the hideout are:

The shops and chests are fixed content. Enemy weapons and drops should be treated separately, because their availability can depend on the particular encounter and ordinary game progression.

---

The Yiga Clan Hideout Chasm lies beside the rear training area. It is both a security punishment zone and a route connected to the shrine complex. Rotsumamu Shrine is associated with the chasm and can be reached from inside the hideout. Its shrine challenge is A Balanced Plan, and the shrine reward is a Light of Blessing after completion. The shrine is recorded at roughly -3407, -1363, 0349, although map references may differ by a few points depending on which part of the entrance is being marked.

Do not assume that reaching the hideout automatically completes the shrine. The shrine remains a separate activity, and the chasm route is worth checking even after the training rewards have been collected.

---

Infiltrating the Yiga Clan

Infiltrating the Yiga Clan is the hideout’s principal side adventure. It begins with Mimos, who is waiting outside and wants to enter the headquarters to learn the Earthwake technique. The quest requires the complete Yiga armour set.

The sequence is less demanding than the Breath of the Wild infiltration, but it establishes the rules for entering the Tears of the Kingdom hideout. Once the quest is completed, Link can return freely while wearing the Yiga set. The quest line awards access to the clan’s training and ultimately leads to the Earthwake Manual and Lightning Helm through the minigame.

Progression changes

There is no evidence that the hideout becomes a conventional hostile dungeon after the main Yiga story is completed. Its main function changes from restricted infiltration site to repeatable hub.

The Yiga headquarters across games

The same broad headquarters appears in more than one continuity and mode of play:

The hideout’s architecture retains its red lanterns, banners and Japanese-inspired presentation. The area is also associated with the Yiga’s roots as a Sheikah splinter faction. The Breath of the Wild description of the headquarters presents it as a reclaimed space concealed inside the Gerudo landscape, while Tears of the Kingdom develops it into a much more visible organisation with specialised divisions.

Environmental storytelling

The result is a location that is comic on the surface but structurally more developed than the Yiga’s hideout in the preceding game.

For a first complete visit

  1. 01
Prepare: Bring the full Yiga Clan Attire, several good weapons, a hammer-type tool and enough rupees for the two paid training rounds.
  2. 02
Start the quest: Speak to Mimos outside and enter while disguised.
  3. 03
Clear the market: Check the banana, blade, archery and Spikes stalls.
  4. 04
Inspect the research room: Decide whether either vehicle is worth buying. Remember that neither purchase is a Schematic.
  5. 05
Find the hidden tunnel: Break through the hard sediment and collect the Sneaky Elixir.
  6. 06
Explore above the hall: Read the Lightning Helm Journal and search the high eastern alcove for the Eightfold Longblade.
  7. 07
Train: Complete all three rounds for the three unique rewards.
  8. 08
Visit the rear area: Check Master Kohga’s Room, the distribution area and the route to the chasm.
  9. 09
Complete Rotsumamu Shrine: Treat it as a separate shrine objective, not an automatic reward for entering the hideout.
  10. 10
Return later: Use the hideout as a source of Yiga weapons, bananas and discounted vehicles.

Can I enter without the Yiga Clan Attire?

Not through the intended entrance. The full Yiga set is required for the infiltration sequence and continued access. Wearing only one or two pieces is not sufficient.

Is the Lightning Helm the same as the Thunder Helm?

No. The Lightning Helm is a Yiga-made imitation awarded by the training minigame. The Thunder Helm is the Gerudo heirloom associated with Breath of the Wild and Riju.

Does buying the Gloomdredger unlock it permanently in Autobuild?

No. The hideout sells the completed vehicle, not an Autobuild Schematic. If it is lost or destroyed, you need to purchase another one.

What happens if I am caught?

You are sent to the Yiga Clan Hideout Chasm and must fight Yiga Clan Enforcers. The fight can occur repeatedly.

Can I repeat the training minigame?

Yes. After all three rewards have been obtained, the challenge can be repeated for free as a high-score activity, but it provides no further unique reward.

Is Yiga Clan Maritta Branch part of the hideout?

No. It is a separate Yiga location. The main hideout is the Gerudo Highlands headquarters near Karusa Valley and Rotsumamu Shrine.

Is Master Kohga fought inside this building?

No, not as the main Tears of the Kingdom boss sequence. Master Kohga’s principal encounters belong to his Depths-based side-adventure chain. His room in the surface hideout is primarily a location and lore feature.

---

This guide treats the main Gerudo Highlands headquarters as the subject and excludes the separate Yiga branches, Yiga Blademaster Station and Depths camps. That boundary is important because several unofficial guides use “Yiga hideout” as a broad label for every Yiga base in the game.

The game’s internal names for individual unnamed shopkeepers and engineers are not consistently presented as personal character names. They have therefore been listed by role where the sources identify a functional title, rather than inventing personal names.

Coordinates for the entrance, quest giver, shrine and shop positions vary slightly between map sources because different guides mark different points within the same complex. The guide uses approximate coordinates where appropriate and relies on named landmarks for navigation.
