About this guide
Base-game guide for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Spoilers: This guide reveals the shrine puzzle, treasure and reward.
Overview
Riogok Shrine is a Shrine of Light in the north-western part of Hyrule Field, close to the Great Plateau. Its trial is called Force Transfer, a compact puzzle built around turning gears, moving levers and transferring Link between raised platforms. The shrine expects you to combine Ultrahand, Recall and Ascend, rather than rely on combat.
The shrine contains one treasure chest with a Mighty Construct Bow and awards one Light of Blessing after completion. It has no resident NPCs, side quest, boss or combat encounter inside it.
Note
Travel from the Hyrule Field Mini Stable or Hyrule Field Skyview Tower towards the north-western edge of Hyrule Field, near the Great Plateau.
Location and boundaries
Riogok Shrine stands outdoors on a small rise in the Rowan Plain area of Hyrule Field. It is generally described as being west of Hopper Pond and south-west of the Hyrule Field Skyview Tower. Other guides describe the same approach in relation to the Hyrule Field Mini Stable, which lies to the east of the shrine.
Some references classify the shrine as being on the Great Plateau, especially because it occupies the plateau’s north-western edge. Others list it under Hyrule Field or Central Hyrule. These descriptions are not necessarily contradictory: the shrine is positioned in the boundary area between the named geographic regions. For practical navigation, the most useful description is:
The shrine’s guide scope includes the shrine interior and its immediate entrance area. It does not include the Great Plateau as a whole, Hopper Pond, the Hyrule Field Mini Stable or the Skyview Tower. Those are neighbouring landmarks used to find Riogok Shrine, not subareas of the shrine.
Verified named locations relevant to Riogok Shrine
The Forest of Spirits is a nearby Great Plateau landmark mentioned in location descriptions, but it is not part of the shrine. Likewise, Kogoir Lightroot is the Depths counterpart associated with Riogok Shrine, not an accessible subarea within the shrine itself.

Reaching Riogok Shrine
From Hyrule Field Mini Stable
This is one of the simplest surface approaches.
The route is mostly an overland journey. A horse is useful, but no special quest, armour set or weather condition is required.
From Hyrule Field Skyview Tower
Riogok Shrine is south-west of the Hyrule Field Skyview Tower.
This approach is particularly convenient if the shrine has already been revealed on the map. The exact landing point is less important than reaching the shrine’s green entrance structure.
From the Great Plateau
If you are already exploring the Great Plateau, travel towards its north-western side and descend or cross towards the shrine’s position. The shrine is close enough to the plateau to be a useful waypoint when moving between the plateau and Hyrule Field.
Access requirements
Riogok Shrine has no known quest lock and does not require a particular story milestone. The challenge assumes that Link has access to the abilities used in the shrine, especially Ultrahand, Recall and Ascend. These are obtained during the opening portion of the game, so the shrine can be attempted relatively early.

From Hyrule Field Mini Stable
- 01Leave the Hyrule Field Mini Stable.
- 02Travel west or north-west across the field towards the raised ground near the Great Plateau.
- 03Look for the green shrine structure on the low hill.
- 04Activate the shrine before entering if you want it added immediately to the fast-travel network.
From Hyrule Field Skyview Tower
- 01Launch from the tower if you want a quick aerial approach.
- 02Glide towards the shrine’s map position.
- 03Land on the nearby rise and activate the shrine.
Shrine interior
Riogok Shrine is divided into two main puzzle chambers.
There are no enemies in the shrine. The danger comes from misplacing the construction pieces, falling into the lower areas or allowing a moving platform to carry you out of position.
---
1. Connect the gears
At the entrance, you will see two large gears separated by a gap. A long pole or bar is available nearby.
The connected gears begin turning, transferring force through the mechanism. This opens the gate into the next part of the shrine.
The key idea is not merely to attach the pole to one gear. It must bridge the moving parts so that rotation is transferred from one side to the other. If the gate does not open, detach and reposition the pole rather than trying to force your way through.
1. Connect the gears: steps
- 01Use Ultrahand to pick up the pole.
- 02Rotate it so that it spans the gap between the gears.
- 03Attach it to the appropriate parts of the gears, creating a mechanical connection.
- 04Strike the nearby activation mechanism.
2. Enter the second chamber
Once the gate opens, continue into the larger chamber. This room contains:
The poles are used both to operate the mechanism and to create a temporary route to the chest and final area.
3. Open the internal gate
Use one of the available poles to operate the lever near the closed gate.
The exact angle is not important as long as the pole gives you enough reach to move the lever. If the attachment is awkward, detach it and try attaching from the opposite side.
3. Open the internal gate: steps
- 01Pick up a pole with Ultrahand.
- 02Attach it to the lever or place it so that it extends the lever’s handle.
- 03Move the pole to rotate or pull the lever.
- 04Open the gate and collect any additional pole needed for the later construction.
4. Retrieve the Mighty Construct Bow
The shrine chest is in an elevated alcove along the back or side of the second chamber.
One reliable method is to use a pole as an extension:
Some walkthroughs instead use the nearby movable platforms to glide or climb towards the alcove. The important point is that the chest is optional but available before completing the shrine. It is not hidden behind a combat challenge or a separate side quest.
Chest inventory
The bow is a standard fixed reward for this shrine, not a random drop.
4. Retrieve the Mighty Construct Bow: steps
- 01Attach a pole to the chest with Ultrahand.
- 02Pull the chest away from its ledge.
- 03Bring it down to a reachable position.
- 04Open it to receive the Mighty Construct Bow.
Chest inventory
| Chest | Contents | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Elevated alcove chest | Mighty Construct Bow | Fixed shrine treasure |
5. Move the first raised platform
The final route uses the slabs or platforms attached to the wall.
This is the shrine’s central lesson: Ultrahand positions the object, Recall reverses its recent movement, and Ascend turns the moving object into a route through the ceiling or upper platform.
A useful timing method is to lift the platform first, release it, then activate Recall once it starts moving downwards. Recall will send it back up along the path it just travelled. Ascend through the platform while it is high enough to carry Link to the next level.
5. Move the first raised platform: steps
- 01Use Ultrahand to lift the larger platform as high as it will go.
- 02Let it drop or return along its track.
- 03Immediately use Recall on it.
- 04While the platform is travelling upwards, use Ascend to pass through it or reach its upper surface.
- 05Use the height gained to continue towards the next part of the chamber.
6. Transfer the pole to extend the route
The remaining poles can be joined to the moving platform or used to create a longer vertical structure.
The construction can be adjusted if it does not reach far enough. Riogok Shrine is designed to allow a degree of experimentation, so there is no need to reproduce one exact angle.
6. Transfer the pole to extend the route: steps
- 01Move a pole onto the larger platform.
- 02Attach one pole vertically or at a right angle, depending on the platform’s position.
- 03Use the resulting structure to raise or reposition the platform.
- 04Add the remaining pole if extra height or reach is required.
- 05Use Ascend to reach the upper section.
7. Reach the altar
Once the platform has carried you high enough:
The final reward is a Light of Blessing. The usual shrine completion effects also apply: Link’s health is restored and the shrine becomes a permanent fast-travel location.
---
7. Reach the altar: steps
- 01Stand beneath the upper ledge or altar area.
- 02Use Ascend.
- 03Climb or walk to the green shrine terminal.
- 04Examine the terminal to complete the shrine.
Abilities used
The shrine does not require Fuse, Autobuild, a bow for combat or a specific weapon. A bow is present as a reward, but not as a required tool.
---
Abilities used
| Ability | Use in Riogok Shrine |
|---|---|
| Ultrahand | Connects the gears, operates the lever and moves poles, platforms and the chest |
| Recall | Reverses the movement of a raised platform |
| Ascend | Allows Link to pass through or rise via the moving platforms |
Practical tips
Do not rush the Recall timing
The most common failure is using Recall before the platform has moved in the direction you need. Lift the platform with Ultrahand, release it, wait for it to begin moving back, then activate Recall. This gives Recall a recent movement path to reverse.
Use the platforms as transport
It is possible to treat the slabs as temporary lifts rather than static climbing surfaces. If you are too low to Ascend, reposition the platform and repeat the movement cycle.
Recover misplaced poles
If a pole falls into an awkward position, use Ultrahand from a different angle. You can usually retrieve it from the floor or pull it through the open gate. If a construction becomes inconvenient, detach the parts and rebuild it.
Collect the chest before finishing
The Mighty Construct Bow chest is in the second chamber and is easy to overlook because the main route leads towards the altar. Check the elevated alcove before using the final platform sequence.
Mark the shrine if you are travelling early
The shrine is a useful waypoint between Hyrule Field, the Great Plateau and the surrounding Central Hyrule routes. Activating it before attempting the puzzle ensures that you can return quickly if you leave to gather supplies.

Rewards and progression
Mighty Construct Bow
The chest contains a Mighty Construct Bow. It is a fixed shrine treasure and is available during the shrine visit rather than being awarded for a hidden challenge.
Light of Blessing
Completing Riogok Shrine grants one Light of Blessing. Four Lights of Blessing can be exchanged at a Goddess Statue for either:
The shrine itself does not contain a Goddess Statue or an exchange service. You must visit a Goddess Statue elsewhere to spend the reward.
Fast travel
After activation, Riogok Shrine can be used as a fast-travel point. It remains available after completion, making it useful for returning to the Great Plateau and nearby Hyrule Field routes.

Named directory
Depths counterpart
These names refer to the shrine, its trial, nearby navigation landmarks and its corresponding Depths location. They should not be treated as internal subareas of Riogok Shrine. The only confirmed functional subareas within the shrine are the first gear chamber, the second mechanism chamber, the elevated chest alcove and the final altar area.

Lore and series context
Riogok Shrine follows the Zonai shrine design used throughout Tears of the Kingdom: a compact test chamber built around one or more of Link’s new abilities. Its title, Force Transfer, reflects the way the first puzzle passes movement through the connected gears and the second puzzle transfers Link upwards through moving platforms.
Like the other Shrines of Light in the base game, Riogok Shrine is not a returning Sheikah shrine from Breath of the Wild. Its architecture, green technology and Zonai-themed mechanisms belong to Tears of the Kingdom. The shrine’s position near the Great Plateau is especially notable because the plateau was a major early-game location in Breath of the Wild, while Riogok Shrine is part of the changed surface world explored in the sequel.
The shrine also has a Depths correspondence: Kogoir Lightroot. In Tears of the Kingdom, surface shrines and Depths Lightroots are linked vertically in the world, making the discovery of one useful when searching for the other. Riogok Shrine’s counterpart is listed as Kogoir Lightroot.
