Introduction
Rakakudaj Shrine is a hidden Shrine of Light in the Gerudo Highlands, positioned along the river running through Gerudo Canyon. It is not a conventional puzzle shrine. Instead, its entrance is created by completing The Gerudo Canyon Crystal, a Shrine Quest that requires Link to find a green Mysterious Crystal and transport it upstream to the shrine.
The shrine itself is a Rauru’s Blessing trial. Once the crystal reaches the vacant shrine pedestal, the entrance appears and the interior contains only a treasure chest and the final altar. The challenge is therefore entirely in the approach: following the crystal’s beam, building a suitable Zonai vehicle and manoeuvring it through the rocky river channel.
Overview and boundaries
Rakakudaj Shrine should be treated as a small location with a linked quest route, rather than as a broad section of Gerudo Canyon. The shrine itself consists of three relevant parts:
The surrounding Gerudo Canyon is a much larger regional area containing roads, caves, towers, stables and other shrines. Those neighbouring locations are not part of Rakakudaj Shrine proper, although some provide useful approach routes. The quest route also passes through the canyon rather than forming a separate named settlement or dungeon.
Nearby but separate locations
The wider Gerudo Canyon area includes a number of these named locations, but they should not be counted as subareas of Rakakudaj Shrine. The shrine is classified within the Gerudo Canyon and Gerudo Highlands setting, while its Depths counterpart is Jadukakar Lightroot.
Overview and boundaries: steps
- 01The vacant shrine platform, where the entrance is missing at first.
- 02The Gerudo Canyon river route, which contains the crystal, the beam guiding Link and several usable Zonai devices.
- 03The shrine interior, which is a short Rauru’s Blessing reward chamber.

Location and geography
Rakakudaj Shrine stands on a rocky platform beside flowing water in the central part of Gerudo Canyon. Its position makes the shrine easy to overlook from the ground, especially before the crystal quest is active. From above, the shrine platform is easier to identify because it sits in the river channel and is marked by the familiar green shrine glow once activated.
The area is not part of the open Gerudo Desert proper. It lies further north, where the canyon narrows and the landscape changes from broad desert to steep rock walls, exposed riverbed and raised ledges. The river is important to the shrine’s design because the crystal must be carried along this channel against the direction of flow.
Exact location
Other references give nearby values such as -2031, -1847, 0064 or -2036, -1854, 0065. These differences do not indicate different shrines. They reflect slightly different map readings and the fact that the shrine, its platform and its entrance occupy nearby points in three-dimensional space.
The shrine platform
Before the quest is completed, the platform has no accessible shrine interior. Link can activate the travel point and hear the mysterious voice, but the entrance does not fully form until the crystal is delivered. Once the crystal is placed on the platform, it enlarges and becomes the complete shrine entrance.
Access and recommended routes
Fastest route from Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower
The most direct approach is to use Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower. Launch from the tower and glide towards the canyon, aiming for the shrine’s position near the river. This is particularly useful if the shrine has not yet been activated, since the platform is easier to recognise from the air.
A player without a nearby fast-travel point can also approach along the canyon road from the Gerudo side. Tsutsu-um Shrine and the Gerudo Canyon Stable area are useful general approach points, though neither is part of Rakakudaj Shrine itself.
Recommended preparation
You do not need a special armour set, quest item or Sage ability to complete the shrine quest. However, the following make the route more reliable:
The nearby construction materials are intended to make the quest possible without requiring a pre-existing vehicle. Several guides recommend a broad, stable design with multiple wheels, because the riverbed contains rocks and uneven rises.
The Gerudo Canyon Crystal
The Gerudo Canyon Crystal is the Shrine Quest associated with Rakakudaj Shrine. It can begin in either of two ways:
After the quest begins, a green beam links the crystal to the shrine. Follow the beam to locate the crystal if you began at the shrine. The crystal is south of the shrine, among large rocks near the canyon route and a temporary camp associated with Giro.
Quest directory
The Mysterious Voice is not a conventional resident or visible NPC. It is the voice connected with the Shrine Quest and gives the objective to return the crystal to the shrine. No permanent named resident is established at Rakakudaj Shrine itself.
The Gerudo Canyon Crystal: steps
- 01Activate the travel point at the incomplete Rakakudaj Shrine.
- 02Find and interact with the shrine’s Mysterious Crystal further along the canyon.

Walkthrough
1. Activate the shrine
Approach the green shrine platform in Gerudo Canyon and interact with it. If the shrine has not been completed, the entrance will be absent or incomplete. The travel point can still be activated.
A voice directs Link towards the connected crystal. A green beam then marks the route.
2. Follow the beam down the canyon
Follow the beam away from the shrine and along the river. The beam may appear to vanish briefly when the river bends or passes behind rock formations. Do not assume the route has ended. Continue along the riverbed and look around the next bend for the beam to reappear.
This section is easier if you stay low in the canyon rather than repeatedly climbing the walls. The river provides the intended route and leads towards the crystal’s location.
3. Find the Mysterious Crystal
The crystal is positioned between large rocks further south. It is usually visible once the beam has been followed far enough. Nearby construction materials can be used to make a vehicle.
Move the crystal only after checking the vehicle parts. If the crystal is attached too early, it can obstruct your view while you are trying to assemble the vehicle.
4. Build a river vehicle
The exact design is flexible, but a wide vehicle with several wheels is more dependable than a narrow one. A six-wheel arrangement is frequently recommended because it can climb over the riverbed’s rocks and remain stable when the crystal is attached.
The quest is not tied to one required blueprint. The important properties are stability, sufficient ground clearance and enough traction to move upstream.
5. Attach the crystal
Use Ultrahand to pick up the Mysterious Crystal and attach it to the vehicle. Place it where it will not drag against the riverbed or block Link’s driving position.
The crystal can be detached and repositioned if the vehicle handles poorly. You do not need to carry it by hand for the entire route.
6. Drive upstream
Drive back towards Rakakudaj Shrine, following the river and the green beam. Take the route slowly. If the vehicle becomes wedged against a rock:
If the vehicle’s battery runs low, wait for it to recharge or use a Zonai Charge. The route is short enough to complete with modest energy, but a heavier vehicle may consume more power.
Do not be concerned if the vehicle briefly leaves the centre of the river. The crystal only needs to reach the shrine platform. The river is the convenient route, not a strict invisible track.
7. Place the crystal at the shrine
When the vehicle reaches the shrine platform, detach the crystal and place it on the vacant pedestal. The crystal grows and forms the complete shrine entrance. This completes the Shrine Quest and unlocks the interior.
4. Build a river vehicle: A practical design is
- 01Place a long board or broad platform as the base.
- 02Attach several wheels to the sides, making sure they face the correct direction.
- 03Add steering or stabilising parts if available.
- 04Leave enough space at the front or rear to attach the crystal without blocking the controls.
- 05Test the vehicle briefly before collecting the crystal.
6. Drive upstream
- 01Stop the vehicle.
- 02Dismount.
- 03Use Ultrahand to rotate or reposition it.
- 04Reattach the crystal if necessary.
- 05Continue upstream.
Rakakudaj Shrine interior
Rakakudaj Shrine is a Rauru’s Blessing shrine. There is no internal puzzle, combat trial or ability-based mechanism. The transport challenge outside is the actual test.
The interior contains a short path over a void, a central platform with the treasure chest and the altar at the far end. Open the chest before activating the altar if you want to collect everything in one visit.
Mighty Zonaite Longsword
The chest contains a Mighty Zonaite Longsword. This is a fixed shrine reward rather than a random drop. Its value is greatest when used with Zonai-device materials or other Zonai-related fuse materials, although the weapon can be used normally as well. The chest is located on the central platform inside the reward chamber.
Light of Blessing
Interact with the terminal before the Rauru and Sonia statue at the end of the chamber to receive the Light of Blessing. Four Lights of Blessing can be exchanged at a Goddess Statue for either a Heart Container or a Stamina Vessel.
The shrine’s completion is permanent. Once the altar has been activated, Rakakudaj Shrine remains completed on the map and can be used as a fast-travel point.
Interior inventory
| Location | Item | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Middle platform | Mighty Zonaite Longsword | Fixed treasure chest |
| End altar | Light of Blessing | Shrine completion reward |
Landmarks and facilities directory
Rakakudaj Shrine has very few conventional facilities. The following are the verified named or functional elements within the shrine’s immediate scope:
Enemies, hazards and secrets
Enemies
No fixed shrine enemy or boss is present inside Rakakudaj Shrine. The interior is a reward chamber only.
The wider canyon may contain ordinary overworld enemies depending on the player’s route and game state, but they are not part of the shrine’s fixed interior content. Because encounters can vary with the exact approach, they should not be treated as a guaranteed Rakakudaj Shrine enemy list.
Environmental hazards
The main hazards are practical rather than combat-based:
There is no evidence that Rakakudaj Shrine has a special weather requirement, time-of-day condition or required quest progression. It can be completed as soon as the player reaches the area and can operate Ultrahand.
No hidden interior puzzle
The lack of an internal puzzle is deliberate. Rakakudaj Shrine follows the Rauru’s Blessing format, in which the external exploration or Shrine Quest replaces the normal chamber trial. The chest and Light of Blessing are the only fixed interior rewards.
Suggested exploration routes
Route A: Shrine first
This is the clearest route for players exploring the area naturally.
Route B: Crystal first
If you are travelling through Gerudo Canyon from the lower route, you may encounter the crystal before seeing the shrine.
The quest can therefore be started from either end of the route.
Route C: Aerial approach
This route is especially useful when the shrine is being located for the first time, but it does not remove the need to complete the crystal transport section.
Route A: Shrine first
- 01Reach the Rakakudaj Shrine platform.
- 02Activate the travel point.
- 03Follow the beam down the canyon.
- 04Locate the crystal.
- 05Build a multi-wheel vehicle.
- 06Carry the crystal upstream.
- 07Complete the shrine and collect the chest.
Route B: Crystal first
- 01Interact with the crystal.
- 02Listen to the Mysterious Voice.
- 03Follow the beam towards the shrine.
- 04Use the nearby parts to construct a vehicle.
- 05Drive upstream to the shrine platform.
- 06Place the crystal and enter the newly formed shrine.
Route C: Aerial approach
- 01Activate Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower.
- 02Launch and glide towards the shrine’s approximate coordinates.
- 03Land on or near the shrine platform.
- 04Activate the quest.
- 05Return down the river route to find the crystal.
- 06Bring it back using a vehicle.
Practical checklist
Before leaving Rakakudaj Shrine, confirm that you have:
Progression and missability
Rakakudaj Shrine is not permanently missable. The shrine quest can be completed later, and the chest remains available until it is opened.
There is no known story branch that permanently removes the shrine or its reward. The wider Gerudo storyline may alter the state of nearby areas and NPC activity, but those changes do not replace the crystal quest or create a different Rakakudaj Shrine trial.
The main progression change is local
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Before the quest | the shrine platform has no complete entrance. |
| After the crystal is delivered | the entrance forms and the shrine becomes accessible. |
| After shrine completion | the interior is marked complete, the chest is opened if collected and the fast-travel point remains available. |
Lore and trivia
Rakakudaj Shrine is one of the many Tears of the Kingdom Shrines of Light whose physical location has a corresponding Lightroot in the Depths. Its counterpart is Jadukakar Lightroot, reinforcing the game’s surface-to-Depths geographic relationship.
The shrine’s quest also illustrates a recurring Tears of the Kingdom design pattern: the shrine is visible before it is accessible, while the real challenge takes place in the surrounding landscape. Rather than solving an enclosed puzzle, the player must read the beam, understand the terrain and use Ultrahand to turn nearby materials into a practical transport machine.
