Introduction

Ekochiu Shrine is a puzzle shrine in the southern part of Minshi Woods, north of Woodland Stable in the Great Hyrule Forest region. Its trial, Rise and Fall, is a compact lesson in using falling blocks, Recall and Ultrahand together. The shrine does not contain a combat encounter or a boss. Instead, its challenge is built around moving platforms and blocks that can be sent upwards, rewound along their previous paths and repositioned to create temporary steps.

The shrine is close to the main road leading towards Woodland Stable, making it an easy early stop when travelling north from Lookout Landing. Its location is on the surface, not inside the Lost Woods or Korok Forest proper. This distinction matters because Minshi Woods, the Lost Woods and Korok Forest are connected parts of the wider Great Hyrule Forest, but they are not interchangeable area names.

Completing Ekochiu Shrine awards a Light of Blessing, while its optional treasure chest contains a Zonaite Shield. The chest is not on the direct route to the shrine’s altar and must be collected during the puzzle.

Location and boundaries

Ekochiu Shrine stands on the surface at the southern end of Minshi Woods, north of Woodland Stable and near the road approaching the Lost Woods. It is within the broader Great Hyrule Forest region, but it is not itself part of Korok Forest, the Lost Woods interior or any underground area.

The nearest major point of reference is Woodland Stable. From the stable, travel north towards the woods and look for the shrine near the road and grassy woodland edge. The shrine is visible from the surrounding open ground, so it does not require a cave entrance, a shrine quest or passage through the Lost Woods.

Nearby but separate places

These locations are useful for navigation but should not be treated as parts of Ekochiu Shrine:

Ekochiu Shrine is sometimes described simply as being in the “Great Hyrule Forest” or “near Woodland Stable”. Both descriptions are broadly correct, but Minshi Woods is the more precise local area.

Access and routes

From Woodland Stable

This is the simplest route for most players.

Woodland Stable provides a useful resupply and travel point, and registering the stable can make later visits to the northern Hyrule roads more convenient.

From Lookout Landing

This route is suitable early in the game, although it can expose Link to monsters on the roads and in the surrounding woodland. A horse makes the journey faster, but no special vehicle or Zonai device is required.

Access requirements

Ekochiu Shrine has no external shrine quest and does not require a story milestone to reveal it. However, the shrine’s solution assumes that Link can use Ultrahand and Recall, both of which are obtained during the Great Sky Island opening sequence.

A Paraglider is strongly recommended. Some solutions and chest routes involve dropping or gliding from an elevated platform. Nintendo’s own guidance treats the Paraglider and the shrine abilities as important early exploration tools, while the Ekochiu-specific guides also recommend having the Paraglider before attempting the shrine.

Continue north from the stable to Ekochiu Shrine.

About this guide

Spoilers: The following section gives the complete puzzle solution and treasure route.

Ekochiu Shrine walkthrough

The shrine is divided into three main stages:

First room: cross the opening gap

The important idea is not to try to outrun the block. Let it complete its normal movement, then rewind it while Link is standing on it. Recall reproduces the block’s earlier route, allowing it to function as a moving platform. Nintendo describes Recall as a tool for reversing an object’s movement, which is the central principle used throughout this shrine.

Treasure chest: Zonaite Shield

The treasure chest is located above a platform that is difficult to reach by ordinary climbing.

Some versions of the walkthrough describe moving the block directly beneath the chest, while others use a nearby position from which Link can glide. The exact placement is flexible. The reliable principle is to use the falling block as a temporary lift, then use Recall to restore its upward route.

If the block falls out of position or disappears into the lower part of the room, wait for another block to drop before trying again. Do not assume that the chest is inaccessible because the first block was misplaced.

Final room: launch the block

The order of placement is important. The block must be positioned on the mechanism before the switch is activated. If it is sitting beside the mechanism, the switch will not launch it correctly.

If the final lift does not work

The shrine is forgiving because the blocks can be repositioned and replaced. It does not require a precise combat timing sequence.

Ekochiu Shrine walkthrough: steps

  1. 01
Reversing a moving block to cross the first gap.
  2. 02
Using a falling block to reach the treasure chest.

Launching a block upwards and using Recall to reach the altar.

First room: cross the opening gap

  1. 01
Enter the shrine and stand on the floor switch.
  2. 02
The switch causes a large block to travel along its track towards the far side.
  3. 03
Allow the block to move away, then step off the switch.
  4. 04
Wait for the block to return.
  5. 05
Stand on the block and activate Recall.
  6. 06
Recall reverses the block’s recent movement and carries it back towards the far side.
  7. 07
Jump or glide off when you reach the opposite platform.

Treasure chest: Zonaite Shield

  1. 01
Wait for one of the square blocks to fall into the shrine.
  2. 02
Use Ultrahand to pull the block towards the chest platform.
  3. 03
Position it close enough to the ledge that you can climb or jump onto it.
  4. 04
Stand on the block and use Recall.
  5. 05
    Ride the rewound block upwards.
  6. 06
Jump or glide across to the chest platform.
  7. 07
Open the chest to receive a Zonaite Shield.

Final room: launch the block

  1. 01
Return to the central area after collecting the chest.
  2. 02
Find the block that drops near the entrance side of the room.
  3. 03
Use Ultrahand to place it on the rising platform or launch mechanism.
  4. 04
Climb the ladder towards the switch.
  5. 05
    Activate the switch.
  6. 06
The switch sends the block upwards.
  7. 07
Stand on or near the block and activate Recall while it is in motion.
  8. 08
Ride the reversed movement to gain height.
  9. 09
When the block reaches the upper part of the room, jump and use the Paraglider to reach the final platform.
  10. 10
Examine the altar to complete the shrine and receive the Light of Blessing.

Rewards

Zonaite Shield

The optional chest contains a Zonaite Shield. This is a fixed shrine treasure rather than a random drop. The shield is obtained before the altar and does not depend on defeating an enemy or completing an additional challenge.

Light of Blessing

Completing Ekochiu Shrine awards one Light of Blessing. Four Lights of Blessing can be offered at a Goddess Statue in exchange for either:

Nintendo’s player guidance confirms this four-for-one exchange system.

Gameplay mechanics

Ekochiu Shrine is primarily a practical exercise in three ideas.

Recall as a moving-platform tool

Recall does not merely reverse machinery. It can turn an ordinary moving object into a temporary lift or bridge. The block’s previous movement path is the route Link rides when Recall is active.

Ultrahand positioning

Ultrahand is used to move the falling blocks into useful positions. The blocks do not need to be attached to other objects. In this shrine, careful placement is more important than construction.

For the chest, place the block near the chest platform. For the final section, place it on the launch platform so that the switch can send it upwards.

The Paraglider

The Paraglider is not necessarily needed to understand the puzzle, but it makes the upper transitions much safer. Without it, a missed landing may force a complete reset of the current section.

Hazards and common mistakes

Ekochiu Shrine has no enemies, environmental damage or timed combat trial. Its hazards are positional rather than hostile.

Common mistakes

There is no known missability condition for the chest. If the block is lost, another can be used or the room can be reset by leaving and re-entering the shrine.

Common mistakes

Common mistakes
NameDetails
Stepping off the first switch too lateThe opening block may travel too far before returning.
Using Recall before the block movesRecall has little useful movement to reproduce if the block has not travelled.
Leaving the chest block too far awayLink may not be able to climb or glide to the treasure platform.
Launching the final block before placing it correctlyThe mechanism may send it away from the intended route.
Forgetting the chestThe altar is visible before the optional treasure is obvious, making it easy to finish the shrine without collecting the shield.

Nearby facilities and connections

Woodland Stable

Woodland Stable is the nearest named facility. It is a useful base for reaching Ekochiu Shrine and the northern roads. Depending on the player’s progression and stable activity, it can also provide ordinary stable services and nearby characters, but those services belong to Woodland Stable rather than to Ekochiu Shrine itself.

The stable is also a useful landmark when approaching from Hyrule Field. Several guides use it as the primary navigation reference for the shrine.

Great Hyrule Forest

The Great Hyrule Forest is the wider regional setting. It includes several distinct areas and should not be reduced to Korok Forest alone. Ekochiu Shrine lies on the southern surface approach, in Minshi Woods, before the more enclosed Lost Woods and Korok Forest areas.

Lost Woods and Korok Forest

These are nearby regional destinations but are not part of the shrine interior or immediate shrine grounds. Travelling towards them can lead to different navigation problems and progression-related encounters. Ekochiu Shrine itself does not require the player to solve the Lost Woods route.

Named directory

Nearby regional places

This directory is deliberately limited to names verified as directly relevant to Ekochiu Shrine’s location and approach. It does not treat every nearby cave, shrine or road landmark as part of Ekochiu Shrine.

Suggested exploration route

For a first visit, the following order is efficient:

This route separates the shrine from the larger forest progression. It also avoids treating the Lost Woods or Korok Forest as prerequisites for the shrine.

Suggested exploration route: steps

  1. 01
    Register or visit Woodland Stable.
  2. 02
Follow the road north into the southern edge of Minshi Woods.
  3. 03
    Activate Ekochiu Shrine.
  4. 04
Enter and collect the Zonaite Shield before completing the altar.
  5. 05
Complete the shrine and receive the Light of Blessing.
  6. 06
Return to Woodland Stable if you need to register a horse, restock or continue north.
  7. 07
Proceed towards the Lost Woods only when you are ready to explore the wider Great Hyrule Forest.
