Overview

Yamiyo Shrine is a small combat-training shrine in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Its official trial is Combat Training: Throwing, a short tutorial that teaches Link how to throw materials directly at enemies rather than attacking with weapons. The shrine stands in Central Hyrule, on the northern side of Romani Plains, east of the Hyrule Castle Town Ruins and north-east of Lookout Landing.

This guide covers the base game version of the shrine and its immediate in-game contents. It does not treat the wider Hyrule Field region, Lookout Landing or Hyrule Castle Town Ruins as part of Yamiyo Shrine itself.

Location and boundaries

Yamiyo Shrine is on the surface of Central Hyrule, rather than in the Sky or the Depths. It is positioned on open ground north of Romani Plains. The entrance is visible from the surrounding countryside once Link is close enough, and the shrine does not require a cave route, shrine crystal quest or special quest state to reach.

The immediate surroundings are part of the open Hyrule Field landscape. The shrine itself should not be confused with:

Several guides describe Yamiyo Shrine as being north of Romani Plains, north-east of Lookout Landing or east of Kyononis Shrine. These descriptions refer to the same surface location from different reference points.

Access and route

The simplest approach is to travel east from the Hyrule Castle Town Ruins or north-east from Lookout Landing. If the shrine has already been discovered, it can be used as a fast-travel point after activation. Before completion, examining the shrine entrance is sufficient to register it on the map, but the Light of Blessing is awarded only after the trial is cleared.

Suggested overland route

The shrine is accessible early in the game. It does not require a regional phenomenon, a sage, a particular armour set or an upgraded ability.

Suggested overland route

  1. 01
Begin at Lookout Landing or another nearby Central Hyrule fast-travel point.
  2. 02
Leave Lookout Landing and travel generally east or north-east.
  3. 03
Keep the Hyrule Castle Town Ruins to the west as a reference point.
  4. 04
Cross the open ground around the northern side of Romani Plains.
  5. 05
Look for the green shrine glow and activate Yamiyo Shrine.
  6. 06
Enter the shrine and collect the supplied materials before beginning the training sequence.

Interior layout and facilities

Yamiyo Shrine is compact and linear. Its interior consists of a training arena followed by a short reward chamber.

Named interior directory

These are descriptive areas rather than separately named map locations. The only canonical location name used for the shrine is Yamiyo Shrine.

There are no shops, beds, cooking pots, wells, stable facilities or ordinary NPC settlements inside the shrine. The Construct present in the trial is part of the tutorial encounter rather than a resident or service NPC.

Walkthrough: Combat Training: Throwing

1. Enter the shrine

After entering, Link is directed towards the training arena. The shrine provides the materials needed for the lesson, so there is no need to bring Fire Fruit from outside.

The shrine’s objective is to teach a specific action: selecting a material from the inventory and throwing it at a target. This is different from attaching a material to an arrow, fusing it to a weapon or dropping it on the ground.

2. Collect the Fire Fruit

Pick up the Fire Fruit provided in the shrine. Open the materials selection menu and choose Fire Fruit as the item to throw.

Do not select a weapon. Yamiyo Shrine’s lesson is about throwing materials directly, and the shrine’s instructions are designed around using the supplied Fire Fruit.

3. Hit the stationary Construct

Aim at the Construct in the arena and throw the Fire Fruit. A single successful hit advances the lesson.

The Fire Fruit’s elemental effect is not the main difficulty here. The important technique is selecting a material and using the throw command while facing the enemy. The Construct does not need to be defeated through a prolonged fight.

4. Hit the moving Construct

After the first successful throw, the Construct moves from side to side. Throw another Fire Fruit when the target is exposed.

You only need one more successful hit to complete the combat exercise. If the Construct moves before the throw connects, wait for it to pass into a clear line of sight and try again rather than wasting the rest of the supplied materials.

The Construct can also fire arrows during the exercise. Keep moving, and use the arena’s space to avoid incoming shots. The shrine is forgiving, but standing still while aiming can make the attack easier for the Construct to land.

5. Collect the materials and dropped equipment

Once the training encounter is complete, the way forward opens. Search the arena before leaving. The Construct may leave behind materials or equipment that can be collected.

These items are part of the shrine’s temporary training setup and should not be confused with the permanent chest reward. The principal permanent item inside Yamiyo Shrine is the Bomb Flower bundle in the final chest.

6. Open the treasure chest

Proceed into the reward chamber and open the chest. It contains:

The Bomb Flowers are added to Link’s inventory and are not merely temporary tutorial supplies.

7. Examine the altar

After opening the chest, examine the shrine altar to receive:

The shrine is then complete, and Yamiyo Shrine becomes a usable fast-travel destination.

Enemies and encounters

Yamiyo Shrine contains a short Construct training encounter rather than a conventional combat gauntlet.

Encounter directory

The Construct is struck with thrown materials during the lesson. The encounter is not presented as a boss battle, and there is no named boss, miniboss or dungeon boss in the shrine.

The shrine is intended to test understanding of throwing rather than combat strength. A player who has not yet used material throwing can complete it with the supplied Fire Fruit and does not need strong weapons, upgraded armour or advanced combat techniques.

Items and collectibles

The Fire Fruit is the key required item for the lesson. Guides differ in how much detail they give about the additional dropped equipment, so this guide does not assign an unsupported fixed inventory to every possible arena drop. The chest reward and Light of Blessing are the consistently documented completion rewards.

Services and progression

Yamiyo Shrine has no commercial services and no resident NPCs. Its practical functions are:

The Light of Blessing can later be exchanged at a Goddess Statue. Four Lights of Blessing are required for one upgrade choice, either a Heart Container or a Stamina Vessel, assuming the player uses the normal Goddess Statue upgrade system.

Yamiyo Shrine is not tied to a regional phenomenon or a larger shrine quest. Its completion is independent of the main story’s regional progression.

Nearby connections

Yamiyo Shrine is useful as a travel marker when exploring the central surface of Hyrule. The main nearby connections are:

These areas are not subareas of Yamiyo Shrine. They belong to the wider Central Hyrule and Hyrule Field landscape and should be treated as neighbouring locations rather than contents of the shrine.

Practical advice

If the throw does not work

Check that Link has selected a material, not a weapon or arrow. The tutorial expects the material-throwing command. Fire Fruit should be selected from the materials menu before aiming at the Construct.

If the moving target is difficult

Do not chase it around the arena. Stand at a safe distance, watch its movement, and throw when it passes across the centre of your aim. The target only needs to be hit once.

Should you use all the Fire Fruit?

No. Only two successful hits are required. Any unused supplied materials are not needed to claim the reward.

Can the shrine be completed early?

Yes. There is no stated story requirement or special equipment requirement. It is suitable for an early visit after reaching the surface and travelling into Central Hyrule.

Is the chest missable?

The chest is inside the final reward area and remains available until opened. There is no known permanently missable Yamiyo Shrine reward. If you leave before opening it, return through the activated shrine and collect it.

Is Yamiyo Shrine the same in Breath of the Wild?

No. Yamiyo Shrine is a Tears of the Kingdom shrine. It should not be merged with similarly named shrines, training shrines or Central Hyrule locations from other games.

Lore and significance

Yamiyo Shrine has little individual narrative lore. Its significance is mechanical: it introduces one of *Tears of the Kingdom*’s flexible combat options, namely throwing materials without first attaching them to a weapon or arrow.

The shrine’s design reflects the wider emphasis on improvisation in Tears of the Kingdom. Fire Fruit can be used as a thrown elemental item here, while elsewhere in the game players can combine materials with weapons, arrows and Zonai devices. Yamiyo Shrine presents the simplest version of that system in a controlled environment.
