Key takeaways

  • Sikukuu Shrine is on the surface in the Eldin Mountains, at approximately 0699, 2793, 0226–0240, depending on the map’s recorded elevation value.
  • The shrine is southeast of Thyphlo Ruins Skyview Tower and north of the Korok Forest.
  • The first room is solved by using Recall on the upper gear so a falling orb lands in the floor switch.
  • The second room requires Ultrahand to turn the crank and Recall to reverse the large gear’s movement.
  • The optional chest contains a Zonaite Longsword It is not a random drop.
  • The shrine’s Depths counterpart is listed as Uukukis Lightroot, but the Lightroot is a separate location in the Depths rather than part of Sikukuu Shrine.

Note

Base game guide. This article covers Sikukuu Shrine itself, its immediate exterior approach and the shrine’s connected map relationships. It does not treat the wider Eldin Mountains, Great Hyrule Forest, Korok Forest or Thyphlo Ruins as part of the shrine, although those areas are useful for reaching it.

Overview

Sikukuu Shrine, also called Spinning Gears, is a Shrine of Light in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It stands in the Eldin Mountains, north of the Korok Forest and southeast of the Thyphlo Ruins Skyview Tower. Its trial is a compact demonstration of Recall, Ultrahand and Ascend, centred on rotating gears, a falling orb and a crank-operated mechanism.

The shrine has no quest requirement, boss encounter, resident NPC, shop or separate mission. Its principal rewards are one Zonaite Longsword from the optional chest and one Light of Blessing for completing the trial.

Boundaries and connected locations

Sikukuu Shrine is a single surface shrine with a short outdoor approach and an enclosed trial interior. The shrine’s named area should not be expanded to include the surrounding Eldin Mountains or the Great Hyrule Forest. Those are neighbouring regions and navigation references, not subareas of the shrine.

Thonky places the shrine at 0699, 2793, 0226, while Zelda Dungeon records 0699, 2793, 0240. These entries agree on the horizontal position and shrine location, but differ in the listed vertical value. For practical navigation, the horizontal coordinates and the shrine marker are more useful than treating either elevation figure as uniquely authoritative.

Reaching Sikukuu Shrine

From Thyphlo Ruins Skyview Tower

The most direct approach is to use Thyphlo Ruins Skyview Tower as the navigation point. Sikukuu Shrine is southeast of the tower. Launch from the tower, glide towards the shrine marker and adjust your landing towards the shrine entrance. The shrine’s exterior location is elevated relative to much of the surrounding forest, so gliding is generally more convenient than attempting to follow an exact ground route.

If you have not unlocked the tower, you can approach overland from the Eldin side or from the northern edge of the Korok Forest. The sources consulted establish the shrine’s relative position but do not provide a single canonical road route, named path or required entrance sequence. Do not treat the surrounding forest tracks as a formal shrine subarea.

Practical approach checklist

No heat-resistance requirement is established for the shrine interior. The trial itself is a mechanical puzzle rather than an environmental survival challenge.

Shrine layout

Sikukuu Shrine contains two main puzzle rooms followed by the altar area.

Room 1: Falling orb and floor switch

The opening room contains a large rotating gear above a locked doorway. Small orbs are carried by or fall from the gear. In the gear’s normal movement, the orb does not enter the required floor switch.

Use Recall on the gear after an orb has fallen away. Reversing the gear causes the next orb to be directed towards the opening in the floor. When the orb drops into the floor switch, the barred doorway opens.

The important point is the timing. Recalling the gear too early can leave the currently moving orb in an unhelpful position. If the first attempt fails, cancel Recall, wait for the next cycle and try again.

Room 2: Crank-operated gears

The second room contains a large gear connected to a crank. The crank can be manipulated with Ultrahand, allowing you to rotate the gear in either direction. The direction in which you turn the crank determines the gear’s movement before Recall is applied.

Recommended sequence

  1. 01
Walk into the first room and observe the gear’s movement.
  2. 02
Wait until the current orb has fallen away.
  3. 03
Cast Recall on the rotating gear.
  4. 04
Allow the reversed gear to carry the next orb towards the switch.
  5. 05
Let the orb fall into the hole.
  6. 06
    Pass through the opened doorway.

Room 2: Crank-operated gears: This room has two objectives

  1. 01
Reach the lower ledge and collect the chest.
  2. 02
Reverse the setup so that the gear carries you upwards to the altar.

Optional chest: Zonaite Longsword

The chest is below the main floor of the second room. It contains a fixed Zonaite Longsword, reported as an 8-power weapon by PowerPyx.

Chest route

The exact number of crank turns is not important. What matters is creating enough gear movement for the recalled gear to carry Link down to the lower area.

Why the chest can be missed

The chest is not on the direct path to the altar. A player who simply solves the room’s upward route can finish the shrine without entering the lower chamber. It is therefore an optional collectible within the shrine, rather than a reward automatically placed in Link’s path.

There is no evidence that the chest is randomly generated, missable through story progression or affected by difficulty. It remains available until collected.

Chest route

  1. 01
    Use Ultrahand on the crank.
  2. 02
Turn the crank counter-clockwise for several rotations.
  3. 03
Apply Recall to the large gear.
  4. 04
Move onto the gear’s teeth on the right-hand side.
  5. 05
Ride the reversed gear down into the lower chamber.
  6. 06
Open the chest to receive the Zonaite Longsword.
  7. 07
Use Ascend through the ceiling to return to the main room.

Reaching the altar

After collecting the chest, return to the main room with Ascend.

This is the reverse of the chest procedure. The first gear direction takes Link down; the second prepares the gear to carry Link up.

Reaching the altar: steps

  1. 01
Use Ultrahand on the crank again.
  2. 02
Turn the crank clockwise for several rotations.
  3. 03
Apply Recall to the large gear.
  4. 04
Move onto the gear’s teeth on the right-hand side.
  5. 05
    Ride the gear upwards.
  6. 06
Step onto the upper ledge and approach the green altar.
  7. 07
Examine the altar to receive the Light of Blessing.

Rewards and facilities

Light of Blessing

Completing Sikukuu Shrine awards one Light of Blessing. As with other Shrines of Light, this is a permanent progression reward that can later contribute towards increasing Link’s health or stamina at a Goddess Statue.

The altar also completes the shrine and activates it as a fast-travel point. PowerPyx additionally notes that the altar restores Link’s health on completion.

Zonaite Longsword

The weapon is obtained by reversing the large gear to ride down into the lower section, then using Ascend to leave.

Abilities used

The shrine does not require a combat ability, Sage ability, Zonai device construction or special weapon type. The core lesson is that Recall can reverse the movement of an entire mechanical object, while Ultrahand can manipulate an attached handle.

Enemies, hazards and secrets

Enemies

No enemies or boss are documented inside Sikukuu Shrine. The challenge is entirely mechanical.

Hazards

The shrine does not have a combat ambush, elemental hazard or time limit described in the consulted guides.

Secrets and hidden content

The lower chamber and its Zonaite Longsword are the shrine’s principal optional discovery. The chest is visible or reachable through the gear mechanism, but it is not required for the altar route. No separate hidden room, Korok Seed, quest item or second chest is verified by the consulted sources.

For a clean first visit

  1. 01

Lore and series context

Sikukuu Shrine is a Tears of the Kingdom Shrine of Light and has no verified appearance in an earlier game continuity. Its internal trial reflects the game’s expanded emphasis on manipulating physical objects with Link’s new abilities, particularly Recall and Ultrahand. The name Spinning Gears describes the trial’s central mechanism rather than a separate location.

The relationship between Sikukuu Shrine and Uukukis Lightroot follows the game’s broader surface-to-Depths mapping pattern. However, Uukukis Lightroot is a distinct Depths location and should not be counted as a second chamber or subarea of Sikukuu Shrine.
