Key takeaways

  • Otutsum Shrine is in northern Risoka Snowfield, not in Gerudo Desert or Gerudo Summit itself.
  • The shrine’s trial is Rauru’s Blessing, so there is no internal puzzle or combat encounter.
  • The most reliable approach is to launch from Gerudo Highlands Skyview Tower and glide north-west, although a ground route is also possible.
  • Prepare at least one source of Cold Resistance The snowfield is a bitterly cold high-altitude area.
  • A White-Maned Lynel patrols the snowfield, while a Frost Gleeok occupies the summit area nearby. Neither is required for shrine completion.
  • The chest contains a Topaz, and the altar grants one Light of Blessing.
  • In the Depths, Otutsum Shrine corresponds to Mustuto Lightroot, making the shrine a useful surface reference when mapping the underground area.

About this guide

Scope note: This guide covers Otutsum Shrine itself and the immediate northern Risoka Snowfield area relevant to reaching, completing and exploring it. It does not treat the whole Gerudo Highlands as part of the shrine’s location. Nearby landmarks such as Gerudo Summit, the Statue of the Eighth Heroine and Gerudo Canyon Mine are identified separately where relevant.

Introduction

Otutsum Shrine is a small Shrine of Light in the northern part of Risoka Snowfield, in the cold western Gerudo Highlands. It is a Rauru’s Blessing shrine, meaning that the actual challenge is finding and reaching the shrine rather than solving an internal puzzle. Once inside, Link can walk directly to a chest containing a Topaz and then claim a Light of Blessing from the altar.

The shrine is particularly useful as a navigation marker in the western Gerudo Highlands. It is visible on the surface in the snowfield, has a corresponding Lightroot directly below it in the Depths, and sits in an area containing several optional exploration targets, including Korok puzzles, cold-weather enemies and a dangerous White-Maned Lynel.

Location and boundaries

Otutsum Shrine proper

The shrine stands on the surface in the northern Risoka Snowfield, west of Gerudo Summit and north-west of the Gerudo Highlands Skyview Tower. It is not hidden inside a cave or behind a shrine quest. The green shrine structure is placed in open snowy terrain, so it can normally be spotted from the air or from a suitable ridge.

The shrine itself consists only of its entrance platform and the interior Rauru’s Blessing chamber. There are no named residents, shops, buildings or faction-controlled facilities at the shrine.

Risoka Snowfield

Risoka Snowfield is the wider local area surrounding Otutsum Shrine. It is a large, exposed, high-altitude snowfield at the western end of the Gerudo Highlands. The snowfield is much broader than the shrine’s immediate surroundings and contains enemy camps, roaming monsters, wildlife, materials, Korok puzzles and other landmarks.

The following locations are associated with the wider snowfield but should not be treated as subdivisions of Otutsum Shrine:

Risoka Snowfield also appears in Breath of the Wild, but the relevant shrine in that game is Kema Kosassa Shrine, not Otutsum Shrine. Otutsum Shrine is a Tears of the Kingdom location.

How to reach Otutsum Shrine

The easiest route is aerial.

Guide sources describe the route as a north-western glide from the tower. Depending on Link’s stamina, armour, temporary stamina effects and exact launch position, the crossing may require careful management or a stamina-restoring meal.

Ground approach

A ground route is possible, but it is slower and exposes Link to more of the snowfield’s hazards. The terrain is open, cold and relatively easy to navigate once the area map is available. Use ridgelines and avoid unnecessary detours towards the White-Maned Lynel if the only objective is the shrine.

A surface approach is more useful if you intend to collect Korok Seeds, investigate enemy structures or gather snowfield materials rather than simply activate the shrine.

Preparation

Cold protection is not merely a convenience. The snowfield’s climate can damage Link continuously without suitable resistance.

Recommended route: Gerudo Highlands Skyview Tower

  1. 01
Fast travel to Gerudo Highlands Skyview Tower.
  2. 02
Use the tower to launch into the sky.
  3. 03
    Glide north-west towards the snowfield.
  4. 04
Watch your stamina while crossing the highland gap.
  5. 05
Land near the shrine and activate its entrance terminal.
  6. 06
Enter and complete the blessing chamber.

Nearby threats

The shrine itself is safe once reached, but the surrounding snowfield is not entirely harmless.

White-Maned Lynel

A White-Maned Lynel patrols the central part of Risoka Snowfield. It is not required for reaching or completing Otutsum Shrine. Players making the aerial approach can usually avoid it by landing near the shrine rather than descending into the middle of the snowfield.

If you choose to fight it, treat the encounter as optional high-level combat. Prepare a durable weapon set, strong healing items and a supply of arrows. The Lynel’s presence is a roaming encounter rather than part of the shrine trial.

Frost Gleeok

A Frost Gleeok is found on Gerudo Summit, near the broader area but separate from the shrine chamber and its approach. It does not need to be defeated to activate Otutsum Shrine. Avoid climbing towards the summit if your goal is simply to complete the shrine.

Other snowfield enemies

The wider Risoka Snowfield can contain cold-region enemies and monster camps. Reported enemy types include:

These entries describe the wider snowfield rather than guaranteed encounters immediately beside the shrine. Enemy positions and active groups should therefore be treated as area-based information, not as a fixed shrine-room encounter list.

Shrine walkthrough

Otutsum Shrine contains no conventional puzzle. The exploration challenge is the journey across the snowy highlands.

The chest is placed directly ahead in the otherwise uncomplicated interior. There are no switches, moving platforms, combat rooms or ability checks.

Rewards

The Light of Blessing can be exchanged at a Goddess Statue for either a Heart Container or a Stamina Vessel once Link has enough blessings for an upgrade.

Exploration around the shrine

Otutsum Shrine is a useful starting point for a wider Risoka Snowfield sweep. If you have already completed the shrine, activate it as a fast-travel point before exploring. This allows you to return to the snowfield without repeating the climb or glide.

The wider snowfield contains several Korok opportunities. Documented examples include:

These are area activities, not shrine objectives. Their exact positions are spread across Risoka Snowfield, so attempting all of them during a direct shrine run can lead to an unnecessary encounter with the roaming Lynel.

Materials and wildlife

The snowfield supports cold-region materials and wildlife. Reported entries include:

These are associated with the wider Risoka Snowfield rather than guaranteed spawns at the shrine entrance. Resource availability can vary with time, weather and whether an item has recently been collected.

Surface and Depths connection

Otutsum Shrine corresponds to Mustuto Lightroot in the Depths. The Lightroot is positioned beneath the shrine at approximately −4469, −0672, −0949. This is part of the broader surface-to-Depths correspondence system in Tears of the Kingdom, where surface Shrine of Light locations can help indicate the positions of Lightroots below.

Lore and series context

Otutsum Shrine is a Tears of the Kingdom shrine and has no confirmed appearance as the same named shrine in an earlier game. The broader Risoka Snowfield does recur from Breath of the Wild, where the area contains Kema Kosassa Shrine instead. This distinction matters when comparing maps between the two games: the landscape is familiar, but Otutsum Shrine belongs to the later game’s Shrine of Light network.

The shrine’s interior contains a Rauru and Sonia statue, consistent with the blessing shrines found throughout Tears of the Kingdom. Its narrative function is therefore primarily restorative and rewarding rather than a separate story location.
