Key takeaways
- Nojoj Lightroot is a standalone Lightroot, not the name of the entire surrounding underground area.
- It belongs to the Central Hyrule Depths, while the nearby Crenel Canyon Mine is a separate named location.
- Its surface counterpart is Jojon Shrine, following the game’s reversed-name pattern for Shrines and Lightroots.
- The Lightroot is at approximately 1202, 0330, -0574 Some guides display slightly different vertical values because of map or coordinate-reading differences, but the horizontal position is consistent.
- The best nearby reason to visit is the Trousers of the Sky, located in a chest in Crenel Canyon Mine.
- There is no verified quest, named resident, shop, facility or unique boss belonging specifically to Nojoj Lightroot.

Overview
Nojoj Lightroot is a compact but useful landmark in the Central Hyrule Depths. It stands south of Crenel Canyon Mine, beneath the surface region around Crenel Peak, and is most valuable as a navigation point for reaching the mine and illuminating this section of the Depths. The Lightroot itself has no shop, quest giver or unique treasure chest, but activating it reveals surrounding map data, creates a Travel Point and provides a safe source of light and gloom recovery.

Overview and boundaries
Nojoj Lightroot is the glowing-root structure itself and the small immediate area around its base. It should not be treated as a synonym for the whole Crenel Canyon Mine district.
The most important neighbouring location is Crenel Canyon Mine, which lies to the north. The mine has its own name, terrain, ore deposits, equipment and treasure chest. Several damaged bridges in the mine lead towards the Nojoj Lightroot, making the Lightroot a natural orientation point when exploring the area.
The wider surroundings form part of the Central Hyrule Depths. The area is underground rather than a continuation of the surface’s Crenel Hills or Crenel Peak, although the mine is positioned beneath Crenel Peak and uses that surface landmark as its counterpart. The surface and Depths are related geographically, but their named locations and contents should be kept separate.

Location and navigation
Nojoj Lightroot is in the eastern part of the Central Hyrule Depths, at roughly 1202, 0330, -0574. It is positioned south of Crenel Canyon Mine. One location guide describes it as directly south of the mine, while other map references place it north of Korakut Lightroot. These descriptions are compatible: Korakut Lightroot is another nearby travel point, whereas Crenel Canyon Mine is the more immediately relevant landmark.
The Lightroot may be difficult to locate before the surrounding map has been illuminated. The Depths are naturally dark, and the visible glow of an inactive Lightroot can be obscured by cliffs, gloom and uneven terrain. Brightbloom Seeds, thrown or attached to arrows, are useful for approaching it safely.
Recommended approach
Nojoj Lightroot is not positioned at the bottom of a conventional dungeon. Reaching it is primarily a matter of navigating the open Depths, managing gloom and finding a route around walls and elevation changes.
Recommended approach
- 01Enter the Depths through a suitable nearby chasm.
- 02Use Brightbloom Seeds to mark the route and reveal cliffs or pools.
- 03Travel towards the Lightroot’s position at approximately 1202, 0330.
- 04Look for the large glowing root and its circular activation platform.
- 05Interact with the root to illuminate the surrounding area and register the Travel Point.
- 06From Nojoj Lightroot, head north towards Crenel Canyon Mine if you are collecting the nearby Sky set treasure.
What activating Nojoj Lightroot does
Like other Lightroots, Nojoj performs several functions at once.
Reveals part of the Depths map
Activation fills in the surrounding section of the Depths map on the Purah Pad. This is especially useful here because the mine’s bridges, pits and surrounding walls are much easier to understand once the local map has been exposed.
Creates a fast-travel point
After activation, Nojoj Lightroot becomes a Travel Point. Link can return to it from the surface, the Sky or another activated Travel Point, provided fast travel is available. This makes it a convenient staging point for revisiting Crenel Canyon Mine after a Blood Moon or after preparing more gloom-resistant equipment.
Provides local illumination
The activated root produces a large pool of light. This does not illuminate the whole regional map, but it makes the nearby terrain safer to inspect and reduces the need to spend Brightbloom Seeds immediately around the root.
Helps recover gloom damage
Standing within the light of an activated Lightroot reverses the effects of gloom on Link’s maximum health in the same general way as returning to the Surface. It is therefore useful as a recovery point after fighting or crossing gloom-covered ground.
Surface counterpart: Jojon Shrine
Nojoj Lightroot corresponds to Jojon Shrine on the Surface. The relationship is represented by the names being reversals of one another, a recurring convention used throughout Tears of the Kingdom. The Lightroot’s position is therefore also a useful clue when checking the surface map for the corresponding Shrine.
The Shrine and the Lightroot are separate places in separate map layers:
Completing one does not activate the other automatically. The Lightroot must be reached and activated in the Depths.

Crenel Canyon Mine
Crenel Canyon Mine is the main nearby subarea and the most worthwhile detour from Nojoj Lightroot. It is located beneath Crenel Peak and contains a large excavated pit, several Zonaite Deposits, hard sediment and damaged bridges leading towards the Lightroot.
The mine is not an extension of the Lightroot in naming or function. It is a separate mine location with its own contents.
Trousers of the Sky
The Trousers of the Sky are in a chest on top of the northern structure within Crenel Canyon Mine. One guide lists the chest at approximately 1165, 0427, -0580. The treasure is not at Nojoj Lightroot itself, so players searching around the root should continue north into the mine rather than assuming the root’s activation platform contains the reward.
The exact approach may vary depending on whether the surrounding map is already lit and whether Link has climbing aids, Zonai devices or sufficient stamina. The chest is fixed content, not a random drop.
Trousers of the Sky: A practical route is
- 01Activate Nojoj Lightroot.
- 02Face north and move towards the mine’s raised structures.
- 03Enter the mine’s central area.
- 04Climb or use Ascend to reach the upper platforms where possible.
- 05Search the northern structure for the chest.
- 06Open the chest to obtain the Trousers of the Sky.

Enemies and hazards
Nojoj Lightroot itself is a facility rather than a combat arena. Available location references do not identify a unique boss or mandatory enemy encounter at the activation platform.
The surrounding Depths can still be hazardous because of:
The most reliable preparation is to carry Brightbloom Seeds, a sturdy weapon for breaking ore and food that restores gloom-damaged hearts. Gloom resistance can also help, but it is not a requirement for activating the Lightroot.
Because the mine and the wider Depths are separate from the Lightroot, enemy encounters should not automatically be described as inhabitants of Nojoj Lightroot. The root is best regarded as a safe navigation and recovery landmark.
Suggested exploration route
For players exploring this part of the map for the first time, the following order is efficient:
Suggested exploration route: steps
- 01Approach Nojoj Lightroot first. Activate it before searching the mine. The increased visibility and Travel Point make the rest of the visit easier.
Suggested exploration route: steps
- 01Pause under the light. Recover any hearts damaged by gloom and check the newly revealed map for walls, pits and routes.
Suggested exploration route: steps
- 01Travel north to Crenel Canyon Mine. Follow the mine’s elevated structures and damaged bridge network.
Suggested exploration route: steps
- 01Search the central pit for ore. Use a fused rock weapon or mining tool to collect Zonaite and break hard sediment.
Suggested exploration route: steps
- 01Climb to the northern structure. Use ordinary climbing, Ascend or Zonai devices depending on the local geometry.
Suggested exploration route: steps
- 01Collect the Trousers of the Sky. Confirm that the chest is in the mine, not at Nojoj Lightroot.
Suggested exploration route: steps
- 01Return to the Lightroot if necessary. The activated root provides a convenient fast-travel exit and a safe place to recover before continuing through the Depths.
Comprehensive named directory
Verified named reward
This directory distinguishes the Lightroot from the mine, the mine’s surface counterpart and the Shrine counterpart. It does not include unnamed ore deposits, generic bridges, ordinary enemies or unverified nearby map features.

Progression and missability
Nojoj Lightroot is available as ordinary open-world content once Link can enter the Depths. It is not tied to a particular main quest, dungeon completion state or regional phenomenon.
The Lightroot is not permanently missable. It can be activated at any stage after the Depths become accessible. If Link leaves the area without activating it, the surrounding map remains dark and the root will not function as a Travel Point until he returns and interacts with it.
The Trousers of the Sky chest in Crenel Canyon Mine is also fixed open-world content. There is no known progression trigger that removes it permanently, although the surrounding route may be easier after obtaining more stamina, better gloom recovery or additional Depths map data.
