About this guide

Spoilers: This guide reveals the shrine’s combat layout, equipment, enemies and chest reward.

Overview

Jojon Shrine is a Shrine of Light in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It is located inside Crenel Peak Cave, in the north-eastern part of Hyrule Field, east of Lookout Landing and on the eastern side of the river. Its internal challenge is Proving Grounds: Rotation, a combat trial in which Link temporarily loses his equipment and must defeat several Soldier Constructs using weapons and devices found inside the shrine.

This guide covers the shrine itself and the cave route needed to reach it. It does not treat Crenel Peak, Crenel Hills, or the wider Hyrule Field landscape as part of the shrine’s interior.

Location and boundaries

Jojon Shrine is reached through Crenel Peak Cave, a cave entrance in the Crenel Peak area. The shrine is therefore a two-part location:

The nearby mountain and surrounding Hyrule Field are navigation landmarks rather than parts of the shrine. Guides generally place the location east of Lookout Landing, near Crenel Peak, and recommend approaching from Lookout Landing or following the shrine sensor into the cave.

Reaching the shrine

From Lookout Landing, travel east towards Crenel Peak. The shrine is not immediately visible as an outdoor structure. Instead, look for the entrance to Crenel Peak Cave and follow the shrine sensor underground.

The cave contains hostile monsters and obstructing rocks. A hammer-type weapon, Yunobo’s Charge, or explosive methods can clear the blocked passage. Bomb Flowers are useful, but take care not to detonate them too close to Link. Once the cave route is open, continue deeper until the shrine chamber is visible.

Practical route checklist

The cave enemies are separate from the Soldier Constructs inside Jojon Shrine. Clearing the cave does not affect the shrine’s internal encounter state.

Practical route checklist

  1. 01
Activate the shrine sensor if you are using it.
  2. 02
    Enter Crenel Peak Cave.
  3. 03
Deal with or bypass the cave monsters.
  4. 04
    Break through the rock obstruction.
  5. 05
    Continue deeper into the cave.
  6. 06
Activate Jojon Shrine before entering the trial.
  7. 07
Prepare for a no-inventory combat challenge.

Proving Grounds: Rotation

Jojon Shrine is a Proving Grounds shrine. On entering, Link’s normal equipment is removed. The trial supplies a limited selection of basic weapons, shields, arrows and explosive materials. The purpose is to improvise with what is available rather than rely on a prepared build.

Equipment found in the trial

Verified equipment and materials reported in the shrine include:

Some equipment is obtained from the ground, while other items are recovered after defeating Constructs. The supplied weapons are deliberately weak, so fusing them with explosive materials or using the shrine’s mechanisms is important.

Walkthrough

1. Collect the starting equipment

At the beginning of the trial, collect the Thick Stick, Wooden Stick and Old Wooden Shield nearby. Do not worry about preserving these items for later. They are temporary shrine equipment and will not replace anything in Link’s normal inventory.

Use Fuse whenever possible. Even a basic weapon becomes more effective when combined with a dropped enemy part or an explosive object.

2. Defeat the first Soldier Constructs

The first area contains Soldier Constructs. Use the starting weapons and look for opportunities to attack while they are separated.

The shield is useful for blocking, but aggressive attacks are usually more efficient because the trial’s weapons are fragile. If a weapon breaks, collect another one rather than trying to fight empty-handed.

3. Search the lower area

After dealing with the first enemies, move down into the lower section. A Soldier Construct here carries a Zonaite Shield, which can be collected after the enemy is defeated.

This lower area also contains useful supplies, including:

The bow and Bomb Flowers are particularly valuable for reaching enemies on higher platforms or damaging groups from a safe distance.

4. Use the Spring to reach the upper platform

A Spring is positioned near the edge of the lower area. Strike or activate it, then use it to launch Link upwards towards the elevated platforms.

If the first launch does not give enough height, reposition Link or use the spring again. The objective is to reach the upper section where additional Soldier Constructs are patrolling.

5. Use Bomb Flowers with the bow

On the upper platform, attach Bomb Flowers to arrows and fire at a Soldier Construct. This is an efficient way to damage an enemy without exposing Link to a close-range attack.

Avoid standing too close to the explosion. The blast can injure Link as well as the Constructs.

6. Find the rotating gear

Return towards the area containing the large rotating gear. The gear is central to the shrine’s puzzle and provides access to another elevated section.

Near this area are Rusty Halberds and Bomb Barrels. Fuse the Bomb Barrels to the halberds to create powerful temporary weapons. Although they are awkward and expendable, they can deal heavy damage to the remaining enemies.

7. Use Recall on the gear

Use Recall on the large rotating gear. Reversing its motion allows Link to ride it upwards or use it as a moving platform to reach the next level.

Watch the gear’s rotation before stepping onto it. Link can be knocked off if he approaches from the wrong side or stands too near the teeth.

8. Defeat the remaining Construct

The final Soldier Construct can be attacked from the elevated platform or from the surrounding machinery. A Bomb Barrel-fused halberd is effective, but a bow and explosive arrows are safer if you have retained them.

You can also use the shrine’s flame-emitter devices. If a flame emitter is mounted on a movable stake, use Ultrahand to position it near an enemy, taking care not to place Link in the flame’s path.

9. Claim the reward

Once every Soldier Construct has been defeated, the exit gate opens. The shrine returns Link’s normal equipment and inventory.

Proceed through the opened gate and open the treasure chest to receive the Magic Rod. Continue to the altar and examine it to complete the shrine and obtain a Light of Blessing.

3. Search the lower area

Enemies and combat advice

Soldier Constructs

The shrine’s combat encounters consist of Soldier Constructs distributed across lower and upper sections of the arena. Their exact positioning makes the rotating machinery and height differences more important than raw weapon strength.

The challenge is not a boss fight. Its difficulty comes from restricted equipment, vertical movement and the need to use the arena’s machinery effectively.

Rewards and progression

Magic Rod

The shrine chest contains a Magic Rod. It is obtained only after all the Constructs have been defeated and the exit gate has opened.

Light of Blessing

The altar awards one Light of Blessing. Four Lights of Blessing can be exchanged at a Goddess Statue for either a Heart Container or a Stamina Vessel.

Fast-travel point

Activating Jojon Shrine creates a fast-travel point even before the trial is completed. This is useful if you need to leave the cave, restock supplies or return later.

Missable content and progression notes

Jojon Shrine has no reported permanently missable chest or unique quest state. The Magic Rod remains available after the combat trial is cleared, and the shrine can be revisited as a fast-travel destination.

The equipment found inside the Proving Grounds trial is temporary. It should not be treated as permanent loot, and weapons used or broken during the challenge do not remove equivalent items from Link’s outside inventory. The Magic Rod in the post-trial chest and the Light of Blessing are the shrine’s lasting rewards.
