About this guide
Spoiler warning: This guide discusses the Depths, the Construct Factory, Mineru and the main quest Guidance from Ages Past.
Overview
Muokuij Lightroot is a Lightroot in the Faron Grasslands Depths of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It stands immediately beside the Construct Factory, the central hub for the late-game quest involving Mineru’s Construct. The Lightroot is therefore more important than its modest size suggests: it is both a permanent travel point and the first reliable landmark most players use when they reach the factory during Guidance from Ages Past.
The name refers to the Lightroot itself, not to the whole surrounding underground district. The nearby Construct Factory, its four component depots, the Tobio’s Hollow Chasm route and the distant Spirit Temple are separate named locations, although they form one connected progression sequence. The wider Faron Grasslands Depths also contains Kohsustu Lightroot, Nikohsi Lightroot, the Left-Leg Depot and the Wellspring of Courage, none of which should be treated as part of Muokuij Lightroot proper.
Location and boundaries
Muokuij Lightroot is in the southern-central part of the Faron Grasslands Depths. Its immediate setting is a broad, dark underground area with the Construct Factory positioned nearby. The Lightroot is described as being in front of the factory, and quest walkthroughs place Link beside it immediately after descending from the surface through the Tobio’s Hollow Chasm route.
For practical purposes, the Muokuij Lightroot site consists of:
It does not include the entire factory complex or every structure associated with Mineru’s quest. The following are nearby but distinct:
Named entries within or immediately associated with the site
Nearby but separate named entries
What Muokuij Lightroot does
Like the other Lightroots, Muokuij serves three practical purposes.
First, activating it illuminates the nearby Depths. This removes the immediate need to rely entirely on Brightbloom Seeds and makes the factory, surrounding cliffs and nearby paths easier to read.
Second, it reveals part of the Depths map. Lightroots function in a similar broad sense to underground map towers, although they do not launch Link into the air or scan the surface. The newly revealed area can be especially useful for identifying the factory and planning a route to the surrounding depots.
Third, the activated Lightroot becomes a fast-travel point. This is valuable because the Construct Factory sequence involves repeated trips between the central factory and the four depots. It also provides a convenient return point if Link leaves the Depths to collect weapons, Zonai devices, food or Gloom-resistant equipment.
Muokuij Lightroot does not provide a shop, healing bed, forge service or item exchange. Its light can make navigation safer, but activating it does not automatically restore hearts lost to Gloom.
Access and routes
Intended story route
The most significant route to Muokuij Lightroot is the one used during Guidance from Ages Past.
The quest begins after Link reaches Mineru’s mask on Dragonhead Island. The mask’s beam guides him to a surface structure near Tobio’s Hollow. Placing the mask on the relevant pedestal opens the route into Tobio’s Hollow Chasm. A descending platform then carries Link into the Depths, arriving near the Construct Factory.
The factory walkthrough is easier if the Lightroot is activated first. The surrounding area is otherwise dark, and the fast-travel point is useful if Link needs to leave before completing all four depot tasks.
Reaching it independently
It is possible to encounter the area before following the intended quest order. The Depths are broadly open, and players can reach many locations through chasms, long underground routes, vehicles or aerial approaches. However, merely reaching Muokuij Lightroot does not by itself complete or fully begin the Mineru sequence. The relevant interactions and objectives depend on the state of Guidance from Ages Past.
If the area is hard to locate, compare the Depths map with the surface map and look around the position of Jiukoum Shrine. Lightroots correspond to surface shrine positions, which provides a useful search method even when the underground terrain is still mostly hidden.
Recommended preparation
Before making Muokuij Lightroot and the factory your destination, consider bringing:
The exact equipment is not a strict requirement for activating the Lightroot, but it makes the surrounding quest route much less awkward.
Intended story route: A practical sequence is
- 01Reach the Dragonhead Island area and obtain Mineru’s mask.
- 02Follow the green beam towards the surface ruins near Tobio’s Hollow.
- 03Place the mask on the pedestal to open the hidden route.
- 04Use the descending platform to enter the Depths.
- 05On arrival, turn around or look behind the landing area for Muokuij Lightroot.
- 06Activate the Lightroot before beginning the factory sequence.
- 07Approach the Construct Factory and place Mineru’s mask into the receptacle at the entrance.
Construct Factory connection
The Construct Factory is the principal reason Muokuij Lightroot matters. It is the hub of a multi-part dungeon sequence associated with Mineru, the Sage of Spirit. The factory itself is not simply a decorative ruin beside the Lightroot. It is a functional quest location where Link assembles a new body for Mineru’s spirit.
After placing Mineru’s mask into the factory’s central mould, Link is directed to obtain four body components. Each component is held in a separate depot:
The depots are arranged around the factory and are marked by their own green-lit entrances. Each contains a construction puzzle based on transporting a large component through obstacles using Ultrahand and Zonai devices. The components are then returned to the central factory and fitted into Mineru’s Construct.
Muokuij Lightroot is particularly useful here because the factory sequence is not a single room with four terminals. The objectives are distributed between the factory and four separate depots, and the wider quest eventually continues to the Spirit Temple. Treating the Lightroot as a hub makes the route easier to understand:
`text Muokuij Lightroot
Construct Factory / | \ Depots and their component routes
Spirit Temple, later in the quest `
The Spirit Temple should not be counted as part of Muokuij Lightroot. It is a separate Depths location and the site of the later boss encounter, while the factory and its depots provide the body-building objectives.
Before entering the factory
- 01Activate Muokuij Lightroot. This gives you light, a map reveal and a fast-travel point.
Before entering the factory
- 01Check the local map. Identify the factory and the four green-lit depot routes. If the map remains unclear, follow the visible beams and illuminated structures rather than attempting to cross the area in a straight line.
Before entering the factory
- 01Stock up before starting the depot sequence. The factory is not a shop or settlement, so any missing food, arrows or devices must be gathered elsewhere.
Before entering the factory
- 01Keep the Lightroot in mind as your return point. If you leave the Depths, you can return directly to Muokuij rather than repeating the chasm descent.
Completing the factory sequence
- 01Enter the Construct Factory and interact with the central mould after placing Mineru’s mask.
- 02Visit the four depots in whatever order suits your route. Guides commonly describe a south-east, south-west, north-west and north-east progression, but the game allows flexibility in the order of the component objectives.
- 03Use Ultrahand to attach the required component to a vehicle or transport assembly.
- 04Navigate the depot’s obstacles and return the part to the factory.
- 05Repeat until the head, torso, arms and legs of Mineru’s Construct are assembled.
- 06Follow Mineru’s guidance towards the Spirit Temple.
- 07Continue the quest there to obtain Mineru’s Secret Stone and eventually unlock the Vow of Mineru, Sage of Spirit.
Items, collectibles and facilities
The central verified function of Muokuij Lightroot is the Lightroot itself. Available references do not establish a shop inventory, treasure chest list, named collectible set or permanent reward located directly at its base.
Associated quest rewards
The rewards belong to the wider Guidance from Ages Past sequence rather than to Muokuij Lightroot as a standalone location:
The factory depots may contain ordinary materials, enemies and environmental puzzle objects, but these should not be confused with a special Muokuij Lightroot reward. The Lightroot itself does not grant a unique chest or quest prize merely for activation.
Verified fixed features
Enemies and hazards
Muokuij Lightroot is primarily a navigation landmark, not a dedicated combat arena. The main hazards come from the surrounding Depths:
The factory and depot puzzles can also create practical hazards. Transporting large components through narrow spaces may require careful vehicle control, and a poorly positioned Fan, Rocket or Steering Stick can send a quest component into an awkward position. Keeping the Lightroot active gives you a visible orientation point if you need to abandon a construction attempt and reset your route.
No boss fight is located at Muokuij Lightroot. The major boss associated with this story sequence is the Seized Construct, which is encountered at the Spirit Temple, a distinct location reached later.
Lore and progression
Muokuij Lightroot is closely tied to the remnants of ancient Zonai construction. The nearby factory was built to create Constructs, and during the present-day storyline Link uses it to build a new body for Mineru’s spirit. The location therefore connects the ordinary Lightroot exploration system with one of the game’s central revelations about the ancient sages and the Zonai civilisation.
The progression state matters
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Before Guidance from Ages Past | Muokuij Lightroot can potentially be discovered as an ordinary Depths landmark, depending on the route taken. The area may appear mysterious and its factory may not yet be functionally relevant. |
| During Guidance from Ages Past | The Lightroot becomes the arrival point and navigation anchor for the Construct Factory sequence. |
| After Mineru’s Construct is completed | The factory remains an important travel landmark, but its central story function has been fulfilled. |
| After completing the Spirit Temple sequence | Mineru’s vow becomes available as part of Link’s set of sage abilities. |
Suggested exploration route
For a first visit, the most efficient route is:
Suggested exploration route: steps
- 01Enter through Tobio’s Hollow Chasm.
- 02Activate Muokuij Lightroot immediately.
- 03Explore the factory entrance and identify the four depot paths.
- 04Complete the depot whose route is easiest to reach from your arrival direction.
- 05Return to the factory after each component.
- 06Use the Lightroot as your fast-travel fallback if you need more supplies.
- 07Finish assembling Mineru’s Construct.
- 08Continue towards the Spirit Temple rather than treating the factory as the end of the quest.
For a later map-completion visit
- 01Fast-travel to Muokuij Lightroot.
- 02Check whether the four depot markers and nearby terrain have already been cleared.
- 03Travel outwards towards the other Faron Grasslands Depths landmarks.
- 04Use the surface shrine map and the Depths map together to identify unactivated Lightroots, particularly Kohsustu and Nikohsi if they remain incomplete.
